    Spicy chicken nugget fried rice
    Aggie E.

I went at 10pm and still had to wait to get in! So clearly they are still very popular. The food that night was a bit of a miss though. The chicken nuggets were quite over salted and I could barely eat any. The fried rice didn't have much of anything except tons of roughly chopped onions for some reason. Not worth the money. The bubble tea was as expected. They only accept cash and e transfer, so be mindful.

This place in Richmond is so good!!! The way you order is unique (at least to me); they give you a QR code specific to your table and you go online and submit your food and drinks that way. They only accept Canadian cash so be prepared with that. I ordered the spicy pork fried rice - it was a humongous portion and so delicious, 10/10. Also ordered the passionfruit green tea with 75% sugar and it was also a 10/10. Will come back again.

    House special beef noodle soup

Had a very wonderful experience here for lunch today! Ordering is contactless so you can scan a QR code that opens up the menu in your browser on your phone. And then from the browser you are able to order and send it directly to the kitchen which made things very efficient. Our food arrived very quickly... everything tasted delicious and we finished it ALL. The house special beef noodle soup was big and very flavorful. My boyfriend enjoyed his cheese milk seafood pot. If you are a fan of Alfredo, you will definitely enjoy this. The fried abalone mushrooms were also tasty- the coating was light and seasoned well. We also got two bubble tea drinks they were absolutely delicious. The boba in mine was definitely made fresh- very soft and almost melt in your mouth kind of chew! Can't wait to come back and try the other dishes in the menu!

I came here for dinner recently. I like the restaurant's setup and service was decent. In terms of food, I tried their Fried Squid Tentacles, Coconut Seafood & Pork Hot Pot, and Fluffy Cream Thick Toast with Almonds. The squid tentacles were really good. The coconut hot pot had a strong coconut flavour that may be overwhelming for some people. It also came with a good variety of seafood (shrimp, fishball, etc.) and vegetables. The thick toast was good comfort food. Note that they have a very extensive drink menu and that they only accept cash.

This place is great for Taiwanese cuisine. It was Saturday morning, we went to this place for an early lunch. In that day, we ordered the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup and Taiwanese Meat Sauce on Rice. The noodle soup was great in taste. The beef was tendered and well-seasoned. It was a great pair with the noodle and tomato soup base. The rice dish was great in taste too. The meat sauce was well-seasoned and well-portioned with it price. I would recommend this place for lunch or dinner and definitely I would come back for a different experience.

This review is based on a take out order at Pearl Castle Cafe. I came here based on a friend's recommendation who really likes this place. I ordered one dish to take home. The Cheese Milk Seafood and pork hotpot for $18.95. The hot pot comes with a bowl of rice. I ordered a bowl of vermicelli as well for $2. The price and portion size was fair given how big the portion was. I definitely could not finish the hot pot in one sitting. I'd say it's enough for 2 people. I ate half of it with a entire bowl of rice and was already very full. The hot pot was alright. I never had a cheese milk dish of anything before and it had an interesting combination of tastes. You can definitely taste and smell the fresh hot milk cheese in every bite. I thought it would be thicker based on appearance but it was just as liquid as any milk. It came with plenty of cabbage, 2 large prawns, some mushrooms, fish cakes, a mussel, and a LOT of pieces of pork. The seafood and all the other toppings was and cooked well, soft, tender and tasty especially on their own. But the milk cheese's flavor did not match the flavor of the toppings as i hoped. But the rice and vermicelli were soft and cooked well. The hot pot paired well with both. The wait time was an estimated 11 minutes but it came out quicker at about 7 minutes and i was in and out in less then a minute as it was prepaid on an app so no complaints on the service. I might come back and try their other dishes some day.

CASH ONLY!!! We went in originally to only buy a drink. After looking at the menu, we decided to stay and order more. Tehe. This mid-size cafe has a good size menu filled with Taiwanese foods. Though we weren't hungry enough for a meal, we were tempted into adding a couple of treats to our late night treat run. Fried Squid Tentacles - This was great! Perfectly cooked, lightly seasoned and coated, with a mildly sweet dipping sauce. Fluffy Cream Thick Toast with Almonds - I asked the server which one to try and he said this one! Well, ok then. Yup, it's good!! Green Lattea - a salted cream topping over green tea. This makes for a lighter version than the typical milk tea. Good idea. House made grass jelly milk tea - Not too sweet, not too creamy, this had a good flavor balance. One note: Even though they "close" at 1am, the kitchen was closing up and checks were given out at all the tables by 12:30am. It's more like doors are locked and all employees are gone by 1am. Don't get there any later than 12:15am.

Wow!!! This place is soooo good! First, the food came out super fast! Like I was shocked that it came out so fast...I got the nugget (fried chicken) with apple/potato curry and it was so good I wanted to go again the next day! The minced pork was also delicious! Highly recommend this place to anyone who is in the area! Or even Richmond in general! Note, that they take cash only :)

Ideal spot for late night (or any time of day) Taiwanese cuisine. My parents always rave about this place when they talk about Taiwanese cuisine in the Lower Mainland and I finally got to check them out last week. When it comes to authentic, quality Taiwanese food, they have this nailed down. I tried the crispy abalone mushrooms, garlic chicken, and sweet and sour fish nuggets. Everything was delicious. From the seasoning, to the sauce, to the presentation, everything was just perfect. I also treated myself to a brown sugar boba and probably could've drank the whole thing in one gulp it was so good. It was the right amount of sweetness and I really enjoyed the boba they used (coming from me, this is huge because I usually don't like boba balls). During Covid times, all the staff are masked up and their are plastic lining separating each table. The menus are accessible through QR codes and you can order from your phone. Bless technology. Also note that this place is cash only. Thanks for a wonderful experience, Pearl Castle!

I'd come here regularly for their vegetarian mushroom dish with rice. The mushrooms are deep-fried into crispy bite sized bits and then drenched in a magical sauce (a sweet soy sauce with fresh Thai basil). You'll just have to try it because my description does not do it justice. Their Pearl Milk Tea is good--not great but not mediocre either. The milk tea is super creamy but lacks a strong milk tea flavour. The pearls are soft and chewy but not very sweet, so it depends what you look for when you order this classic drink.

This place will always be a comfort food place, whenever we have a hard time deciding whereto go we usually end up here for some drinks and food! * Three cup chicken ($18.90) ~ Good portions and good flavour the chicken had loads of sauce and was seasoned well. This dish is so good with rice causewe ate the entire bowl and even wanted more! The chickn was nicely cooked juicy and flavourful. * Deep fried tofu ($8.95) ~ THIS WAS SO GOOD THIS TIME, I was min blown away how deliciously seasoned this was. Very well seasoned and ultra crispy and crunchy the tofu itself was silky and soft with a nice crunchy exterior. 100% impressed with this time. * Also got lychee green tea w. grass jelly ($5), & passionfruit green tea w. grass jelly ($5). * 10/10 ~ I was very impressed this time around, everything was delicious and the portions were good! * 7/10 I find their drinks and snacks can easily add up in pricing the portions are generous andits not too expensive. Total bill before tip: $37.85 (2 people).

This place is really good. Visiting Vancouver on many occasions and been here three times now. No complaints on my end. Everyone gets something different so I get to sample all of it hahah. Creamy milk hot pot seems to be the common dish among other tables. I really enjoyed my shrimp pot. Just point to the picture in the menu. Very efficient workers and no wait time for us around 8pm on a Friday

What's appealing here is that their Instagram advertises daily specials so you can get some dishes for a great discount (like 40% off). We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.

Vegetarian Three-Cup King Oyster Mushrooms on Rice…read more I've had this dish before and came back for another round. This time, I decided to level up and chose medium spice... a decision my taste buds are still discussing. Ordering is done through a QR code, and you can customize your dish -- with or without ginger, plus your spice level: mild, medium, or hot. The chef was very generous with the sauce and chilis this time. When they say medium, they don't mean "a little kick"... they mean "welcome to the chili party." The dish came with so many chilis that I started wishing there was a little more rice to help balance the heat. Thankfully, the restaurant serves hot tea, which became my superhero in a cup and helped calm down the spice attack. ‍ I clearly underestimated the "medium" spice level -- but spice levels are funny because they really depend on the restaurant. One place's medium is another place's "are you sure you're ready for this?" Still a tasty and flavourful dish, and I'll definitely remember to respect the chilis next time.

They're even friendly to vegetarians, with an entire page of the menu dedicated to vegetarian dishes. We had the popcorn chicken, the stir fried bok choy, the sha cha chao mian with lamb (the anglicized name for this on the menu is "signature ancestral herbal satay with fried noodles), and the noodle soup with beef brisket and tomato. For three people, this was the perfect amount of food for a hearty dinner. Our favorites were definitely the popcorn chicken and the noodle soup. The popcorn chicken was perfectly and delicately fried, SO JUICY on the inside, and seasoned just right with a lovely basil aroma. The noodles were toothsome and swimming in a gorgeous broth with the most tender beef. Stir fried bok choy is pretty standard but definitely a must if you want really any vegetables in this meal. Sha cha chao mian with lamb was good -- lamb was perfectly cooked, very tender. The noodles themselves are nice but the flavor is a bit one dimensional. Service here is really good. They are so nice, and very fast!

Thanks for the recommendation Jando S. At first glance, the prices are average for this type of food. However, once I saw the humongous portions, I believe this vendor should clearly be categorized as cheap eats. For example, for roughly $10, you get three large pork chops (fried or marinated, I slightly preferred the fried more), sautéed cauliflower in XO sauce, soy braised tofu skin (so good I paid for extra $5 portion), crunchy pickles, stewed fish tofu, marinated egg, and a whole separate box of white rice. This is easily $15-20 in NYC. Same price for the crispy, tender, and juicy Chicken Nuggets (aka Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken) with all the trimmings. The quality of every item in the box was top notch and all very delicious. What many customers ordered that interests me for the next visit was the Salt & Pepper Chicken (椒麻鸡), which was basically a huge piece of pounded chicken thigh, battered like the popcorn chicken, with a mala sauce on top. This is a gem for the people who live locally in the area. Such bang for the buck!
