I ordered the beef noodle soup with vermicelli noodles but realized that it was the translucent vermicelli and not the white vermicelli. I wasn't able to read the Chinese but if the information was made more clear in English, that was have been preferred! There was a lot of beef and the flavor of the soup was good. Had a very wonderful experience here for lunch today! Ordering is contactless so you can scan a QR code that opens up the menu in your browser on your phone. And then from the browser you are able to order and send it directly to the kitchen which made things very efficient. Our food arrived very quickly... everything tasted delicious and we finished it ALL. The house special beef noodle soup was big and very flavorful. My boyfriend enjoyed his cheese milk seafood pot. I came here for dinner recently. I like the restaurant's setup and service was decent. In terms of food, I tried their Fried Squid Tentacles, Coconut Seafood & Pork Hot Pot, and Fluffy Cream Thick Toast with Almonds. The squid tentacles were really good. This place is great for Taiwanese cuisine. It was Saturday morning, we went to this place for an early lunch. In that day, we ordered the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup and Taiwanese Meat Sauce on Rice. The noodle soup was great in taste. The beef was tendered and well-seasoned. It was a great pair with the noodle and tomato soup base. The rice dish was great in taste too. This review is based on a take out order at Pearl Castle Cafe. I came here based on a friend's recommendation who really likes this place. I ordered one dish to take home. The Cheese Milk Seafood and pork hotpot for $18.95. The hot pot comes with a bowl of rice. I ordered a bowl of vermicelli as well for $2. The price and portion size was fair given how big the portion was. I definitely could not finish the hot pot in one sitting. I'd say it's enough for 2 people. I ate half of it with a entire bowl of rice and was already very full. The hot pot was alright. I never had a cheese milk dish of anything before and it had an interesting combination of tastes. You can definitely taste and smell the fresh hot milk cheese in every bite. I thought it would be thicker based on appearance but it was just as liquid as any milk. It came with plenty of cabbage, 2 large prawns, some mushrooms, fish cakes, a mussel, and a LOT of pieces of pork. The seafood and all the other toppings was and cooked well, soft, tender and tasty especially on their own. But the milk cheese's flavor did not match the flavor of the toppings as i hoped. But the rice and vermicelli were soft and cooked well. The hot pot paired well with both. The wait time was an estimated 11 minutes but it came out quicker at about 7 minutes and i was in and out in less then a minute as it was prepaid on an app so no complaints on the service. Ideal spot for late night (or any time of day) Taiwanese cuisine. My parents always rave about this place when they talk about Taiwanese cuisine in the Lower Mainland and I finally got to check them out last week. When it comes to authentic, quality Taiwanese food, they have this nailed down. I tried the crispy abalone mushrooms, garlic chicken, and sweet and sour fish nuggets. Everything was delicious. From the seasoning, to the sauce, to the presentation, everything was just perfect. I also treated myself to a brown sugar boba and probably could've drank the whole thing in one gulp it was so good. It was the right amount of sweetness and I really enjoyed the boba they used (coming from me, this is huge because I usually don't like boba balls). I'd come here regularly for their vegetarian mushroom dish with rice. The mushrooms are deep-fried into crispy bite sized bits and then drenched in a magical sauce (a sweet soy sauce with fresh Thai basil). You'll just have to try it because my description does not do it justice. Their Pearl Milk Tea is good--not great but not mediocre either. The moment you walk in and childhood nostalgia hits you in the face. Haven't been here in about a year but went for lunch here today. Ordered their house special beef noodle which is just like how I remember it. Full of meat and savoury soup with just the right seasoning. Came here for a second round of food on a Saturday, mostly to hang out with friends. Feeling quite full from brunch, I had planned to order chicken nuggets only until I saw their selection of Brown Sugar Milk Tea! (note: chinese brown sugar is basically black sugar, the latest hype in sugar; also note: this is not the same as coffee brown sugar, which is just white sugar dyed with molasses). There were plain, sesame, matcha, and one more flavour to choose from, and I couldn't resist Black Sesame I really like the drink! The milk tea was creamy and smooth with a thick layer of foam topped with a generous sprinkle of black sesame and brown sugar. The flavour of the brown sugar was decent, although definitely not here to compete with the hype. Most importantly I could taste the black sesame with each sip. The chicken nuggets was a good snack size to share between two to four people. Nice and crispy on the outside, still moist enough inside. My friends ordered set meal and they come with some good looking side dishes too. They could definitely use an extra staff or two, because it took some time for us to get service. The service is, nonetheless, professional when it arrives. Pearl Castle was one of our go-to places for drinks and late night over Bubble Tea and Taiwanese food, but it's becoming more a lunch or snack spot for us with a change in lifestyle. Undoubtedly trendy and incredibly Taiwanese, Pearl Castle (圓香 aka Yuan Xiang) is easily one of Vancouver's most popular tea house chains. This Richmond location is always packed, lots of young folks passing time, while sipping some tea and getting their eat on. The fact they're open late is a real draw. No one likes how quiet Richmond becomes after 10pm and somehow the post movie hour ends up becoming a late night eats / drink session at PCC. Perfect for crowds, but asinine parking. I suppose neither is technically their fault. All sorts of Taiwanese edibles are available, from the classic 3 Cup Chicken (三杯雞) to more adventurous choices like Deer Intestine Soup (五更腸旺). I've personally had mixed results with their Hui Guo Rou (回鍋肉), which is one of my favorite dishes in general, but has been butchered otherwise. The Tomato Prawns (茄汁蝦球) are a decent pick, but are best enjoyed with rice, which is a $1.50 a bowl. I say skip the bowl and go for the Taiwanese fave, Braised Pork Over Rice (台式滷肉飯). On a whole the food isn't all that impressive but realize that this isn't their forte. Drinks and desserts are more up their alley. Hibiscus tea with bubbles? Solid. My perennial favorite in taro green tea is wickedly sweet and a close favorite in the lychee green tea is good, so long as they're not too heavy on that cancer causing boba powder. During the summer months, a bowl of the shaved ice is a treat, just make sure you have other mouths germing up the bowl with you so the judgemental taibilang (#1) don't give you an odd stare. ____________ (#1) Taiwanese for "people from Taipei." I consider this one of the places that started the whole craze of being able to serve real food with bubble tea and making it not just a hangout type of place, but a family place where people would actually have dinner here, while getting their fix of the popular bubble tea variety. Parents bringing their kids, and actually sitting here eating dinner, also ordering one of those milky drinks, the youth hanging around having a snack if not loitering with a drink for a good hour. For as long as it's been here, and Richmond is fearce in competition, and this place still attracts the crowds. I've come here for the food, and the drinks (no.. no booze here!) and I have to say it is pretty consistent. You want drinks, they got the staple milk tea (that can screw around with you and leave you rolling in your bed not sleeping), you want slushes, hot drinks, they got those too. And it's in their name, yes, they have pearls, and other jellies to go along with what your slurping. Not thirsty, their menu isn't bad, filled with Taiwanese delicacies, pretty authentic, or as my partner would say, as she has that background! Looking back, I've had the fried red-fermented pork with fried rice, their fried popcorn chicken bits, housemade beef noodle, Taiwanese meat sauce on rice, fried tofu, and I've been satisfied everytime I come here. With all the places that have opened up in Richmond this place has gone along with the times, of offering you more, more types of drinks, and more types of food, and they are open late, not too late, but late enough. If you come during dinner time here, parking is an absolute pain (just remember there are a number of restaurants here, and most people come 1 per car!) but at least the lot is big enough. When you get to the door, just don't be surprised of the wait, and how some people can linger around, even after all the food items are cleared off their table! read more

The food & drink have always been good here, but about a year & a half ago after reopening after months of renovations, the service at this place took a hit. The three of us came to Pearl Castle at around 9:30 PM for their beef noodle colossal, which claimed to have 4 times the noodles, 3 times the meat, and 3.5 times the broth. We chose the house special beef noodles with wide noodles. Aside from that, we ordered the japanese green tea fluffy cream toast. I also got a honey avocado milk frappe (which was pretty much just slush). The server who took our order was very impatient, and always looked around the restaurant. She also answered the phone while we were ordering, which I thought was very rude of her. I thought the food ultimately saved Pearl Castle but service could definitely be improved upon. The honey avocado slush had a strong honey flavour with a subtle hint of avocado. The slush was smooth and refreshing. I thought the beef noodles was great. There were a lot of meat, and the broth was tasty. The noodles were just the right consistency, but some noodles got stuck together. It came with a pair of giant chopsticks, which made a great prop. For $34.99, I thought it was very reasonable, especially a portion of that would go towards charity. It was definitely an interesting experience to have such a large bowl of beef noodles and it was fun to share with friends! I was a little disappointed at the japanese green tea fluffy creamy toast. I wasn't too sure what they meant by "fluffy" or "creamy", because ours had none of that. It was pretty much a layer of green tea filling on top of a toast. The green tea paste wasn't creamy, maybe it was because they baked it so it was dry and came off when I tried to rip a piece to eat. I would not recommend this dessert. My parents choose this as their go to taiwanese food eatery and it has held this spot since before they expanded and opened up at richmond centre and near metrotown. I used to really enjoy their salty peppery chicken with noodles but as I grew up, I started eating a bit healthier and became less of a fan. This is my personal preference but their chicken is quite consistent! With nicely battered and huge chunks, this was always a great deal. The dry noodle with beef sauce is also very heavy but delicious. It has pieces of pork, bean sprouts and probably garlic, it is served atop a huge bowl of noodles (which are almost always toothsome!) However, I do not enjoy their beef noodle soup too much because instead of beef shank, they use beef brisket. Their taiwanese style egg roll and fermented pork chop are both common orders in my household as well as the honey garlic chicken which is similar to the salty peppery but in a delicious sauce. Overall, for taiwanese food, this place is quite good with reasonable prices and has remained good for years! If you enjoy taiwanese food, you'll definitely be pleased with the food here. read more

After Cute Pearl House closed down, my go to bubble tea place is Pearl Castle. (Note: not the one in Richmond Centre.... Food/ drinks aint as good) The Passion Fruit Green Tea with pearls (I asked for less sweet) is delicious and refreshing on a hot summer's day. Chicken with 3 spices and rice. You can never go wrong with the this order. However, I find the side dishes on the other hand will always be hit and miss... I was a bit disappointed on my last visit....The Gung Pao Chicken wasn't spicy enough and it didn't have the peanuts I used to love :( Service like usual was pretty bad, it's as if most of the people there simply don't want to be there. This place is always super crazy busy. The food I have to say is ok. I do in fact find their bowls fascinating. I mean they kind of reminds me of a comfy chair where the rice sits in. Other than that, it is a Chinese restaurant so don't expect exceptional service here. Some of the waitress don't speak English so you either have to know Mandarin. I like their drinks here. They have some pretty interesting drinks like the love paradise yogurt drink. Sounds interesting eh?? There are more like that but they are good and you can pretty much get it here only. It's impossible to get any help here, and servers had no idea what the "dessert" as part of the meal was. It's really just a jello cup. And my dessert (tofu pudding) was the first item to arrive out of everyone else's food. Literally makes no sense. And unless you order drinks, dont expect any water or tea be brought over. It came in a huge coffee press and I always have 3/4 leftover to takeaway. The sweetness of the drinks are always perfect and never needed alterations for me anyways. Don't order their hotpot unless you enjoy having the pot half filled w/ cabbage, it's such a rip off filler. This time I ordered the satay seafood & pork hotpot ($15.25). 2 shrimps, 1 mussel, 5 seafood balls & some pork slices. Went last night group of 7, 4 of us got food poisoning... please avoid this place. (They are also cash only and no split bill like ??)

This place was so disappointing. Where do I even start? 1. Poor service, even for an Asian restaurant. Came here for lunch and barely could flag down a server to order / get more water / get the bill, etc etc despite it not even being busy. Also the strange thing was the first time I got water it was hot, the next refill cold, and the last one medium temperature. 2. Somewhat expensive prices The menu here is super extensive and it'll seem like the prices are cheap but the dishes don't come with rice. Once you add the $3 to make it combo with veggie and rice then the prices are pretty standard (avg $16-20pp). Also for a tea cafe I was also hoping for drinks to be part of the combo or discounted but I didn't see that on the menu. 3. Bad food I think the most disappointing thing was in the food since most of it was inedible bits of dried soup ingredients and chilli peppers and meat fat. I felt like the design of the tray and bowls were a gimmick to make it look like you were getting a lot of food. I'm more of an extreme food eater (either fine dining where I go all out or hole-in-the-wall where the food is so good but you know the place is gonna be a bit sketch) and this place is neither. With all the food choices around this plaza and others in Richmond, I am surprised this place had good ratings and is rated as popular. read more
