The verdict is in! The Italian beef and polish sausage combo was good enough to satisfy my Chicago crowd. The chicken sandwich was great too and they do provide gluten free buns so that's a yes for gf ! Ambiance was casual and fun. Service is via a pick up window. Outside seating only.

Simple yet delicious, the classic Chicago dawg never disappoints. Being a transplant from Chicago, I was excited to try this and noticed they had Italian beef as well. We were sad to lose LBK Pizzeria on Tujunga, but happy that Pearl's Red Hots took over the space. Pearl's Red Hots is a walk-up window to which you can order a variety of hot dog concoctions or create your own. They offer chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, tater tots and onion rings too. If you're familiar with Sonic, Pearl's Red Hots is similar but better. And I do like a quality Sonic location. The owner of Pearl's is no stranger to the block and has been in the restaurant biz for a number of years. He's friendly to chat with, and the staff manning the order/pick-up window have been kind. There are a few outside tables and chairs on Tujunga to enjoy your order but it looks like much of their business is to-go which is what we often do. We order on Pearl's Red Hots to place our order and rip over to pick it up. Street parking available in the area.

Great buns for their hotdogs. Not a big fan of snap dogs, but theirs is light so it was OK. Great chili, great cheese, great coverage. The servers are very nice. My hotdog was definitely fresh because it was as scorching hot as a volcano!

This is an outdoor dining situation. There is some shelter from the sun with shade from nearby trees, but if you plan on eating there you're sitting outside. Full disclosure, I've never been to Chicago, but have tried an Italian beef from Pop ups and Portillo's in Buena Park. The sandwich itself tasted close to Portillos. The bread was nice, wet (from being dipped in the au jus), and chewy. It was not overly soggy, but when you get it baptized your hands will feel oily and wet. The meat was seasoned well, but the giardiniera was fantastic. It was poppy, bright, and the perfect pickled accoutrement to make the sandwich sing. Parking is street, meter, and neighborhood.

Finally! A restaurant in Tujunga Village that our community really needs and wants. We've been needing a casual eats place for a long time here: high quality, simple food that won't break the bank and is delicious and casual. Pearl's Red Hots indeed is a gem. They have breakfast until 3 PM, featuring all permutations of breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos. They offer eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage, avocado, sweet peppers, shredded beef, vegan sausage, hash browns, lettuce, tomato, and potato. You can pretty much have anything you want for breakfast in a sandwich or burrito or bowl setting. I had the pepper and egg sandwich and it was delicious. Very simple: scrambled eggs, sautéed orange peppers, and a little mayo on a French roll. If I were feeling hungrier and wanted something heavier, I might've gone for the Wicker Park burrito that has slow roasted shredded beef, roasted jalapeño cheese, and giardiniera. For lunch, they offer a wide variety of hot dogs and vegan hot dogs, and Polish sausages on regular and gluten-free buns, corn dogs and veggie corn dogs, burgers, turkey burgers, veggie burgers, pastrami sandwiches, Italian beef sandwiches, tuna melts, chili fries, a cup of chili with onions, and beer battered onion rings. I'm really happy to see that they offer turkey burgers and tuna melts. This gives me great options for when I don't want red meat and when I'm also not in the mood for a veggie burger. If I wanted to make a meal here even lighter, I'm sure I could tailor it by going bunless and asking that it be served on lettuce. Everybody around me looked like they were really enjoying their meals. There was a happy vibe in the air. It's so nice that we now have an option for an eatery that is high-quality but not crazy expensive, the way some other restaurants in the Village are. Their bottled drinks menu offers some hard to find options, such as Dad's diet root beer and chocolate Yoo-Hoo. Also, it's great to finally have a hot dogs and hamburger place! At last! All the employees have very nice manners, both in person and on the phone. I was very impressed. Welcome to the neighborhood, Pearl's!

Finally, a place in LA that makes an authentic Chicago dog, green glowing relish and all. The Italian beef is just like Chicago too, I asked for lots of juice, it was a mess (like it's supposed to be) and so good! Didn't know this place existed before searching on Yelp! Stopped in on a Sunday, parking is difficult so we circled and parked down the block but not too far. Ordering is done at the window, there is a pleasant patio with a few umbrellas for shade. The atmosphere is definitely comfortable and inviting. The staff is very friendly and informative, ordered the Pearl Hot Dog that comes with Chili and mustard (no onions by request) on a poppyseed bun. The dog has a nice snap, chili is plentiful and flavorful without being too greasy. The poppyseed bun is definitely soft and gives the impression of being fresh. Also ordered the Vienna Beef Korn Dog and that had a nice crispy deep fried batter with flavorful beef dog inside. Overall we were super pleased and will definitely be back!

New Hot Dog shop on the block! They use local, unfrozen, authentic Vienna Beef dogs. They fly in the Polish Dogs, frozen, from Chicago. Only tried the Mustard/Onion/Relish dog, it was excellent. Great snap and flavor! Pricey for a small hot dog, but delicious. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

This place is awesome!! I went there for the first time early this week and got a chili dog, one of the best I've ever had. !! The hotdog snapped when I bit into it, and the meat was phenomenal. I noticed that they had an Italian beef on their menu and went back a few days later and had that. I am a connoisseur on Italian beef sandwiches and they ranked right up there with my top favorite one from Gino's East. The service was great, polite, and attentive! Chicago Dog 7/10: decent flavor, but nothing special. Italian beef 4/10: beef was super stringy and was severely lacking flavor and the au jus was bland at best... And I don't know what kind of giardiniera they use, but you'd get beat up if you used that in Chicago. This was a flop. For a Chicago dog, a beef, and a bottle of water, it was $36 after tip. This place could be great but it misses the mark for these reasons: 1. First and foremost, they don't have Vienna Beef hot dogs. Anyone billing themselves as authentic Chicago hot dogs should be serving Vienna Beef. The hot dog Pearl's uses has a much too tough casing (more than just a good snap), and the beef hot dog is BITTER. There's another hot dog place in town that also doesn't have Vienna beef, but their beef is much closer to the texture and taste than this place. Ruins the hot dog, even when it's buried in all the toppings. 2. They have poppy seed buns, but they are a little dry. If they're steaming the buns like they shoud be, I couldn't tell. 3. Not open on Mondays. In such a prominent location on a highly trafficked street, a food business should be open 7 days a week. We aren't happy to see it's closed, but the neighboring restaurants sure are. 4. If you've got something on the menu, you should have it. Today? No chocolate ice cream. Boo! The fries and onion rings are good. Restaurant is worth a try, but if you're a true Chicagoan, you might be disappointed. read more

Really great neighborhood spot for comfort food. I've been three times and on every occasion the food was excellent and prepared well. I haven't had any of the hot dogs or burgers yet, but the spicy grilled chicken sandwich, the tuna and avocado wrap, and the chili cheese fries were all really damn good. Hopped off the plane at Burbank and was looking for a quick meal that wasn't fast food. In a town where a combo at Taco Bell cost upwards of $20 these days, Pearl's was a budget saver. The dogs were perfect portions, and if you really wanted to, you could double up and get two different hot dogs and it would still be less than a combo at a fast food burger place. The fries had my favorite seasoning on them too so I gobbled those up pretty fast. They also have my favorite bottled cream soda so food was definitely a 5/5 for me. I loved that it was just a casual window with patio seating. Definitely lent itself to the cute neighborhood vibes where you could just stroll up and order a snack. Parking was easy enough to find. Definitely will be coming back to try the other menu items. read more

The food was alright. Had a burger, fries, onion rings, and a chili dog. The chili had mild but nice flavor. The burger was not my favorite. I think what makes this place so special is the location. It's situated on Tujunga in one of my favorite areas of studio city. Walkable and lovely neighborhood next to other restaurants and shops. read more

Amazing service and good food. I've been to Pearls a few times now and their hotdogs are consistent. Love the chi town dog. And omg their onion rings are the best I've had!! Whatever batter they use is delicious! The location is perfect for when I take my girls to the park and we want to walk to pearls and grab dogs and ice cream. It needs to be a neighborhood staple. This is an excellent new Chicago style addition to the neighborhood. It has authentic Chicago Italian Beef Sandwiches and Chicago Hot Dogs. The bread, toppings, and au jus were spot on. The main server, Jake, was highly professional, courteous, and accommodating. The owner, Brad, is a true gentleman. You no longer have to drive the Buena Park to go to Portillo's or fly to Chicago to get authentic Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs. You only have to go around the corner to Pearl's Red Hots in Studio City. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Love this place! Had a great hot dog with kraut, onions and mustard. Don't eat hot dogs too often even though I love them. But ... when I do I want it to count! Pearls did not disappoint. Soft bun and a dog with skin with a snap (as it should be). My wife had a turkey burger that I had to push for her to give me a bite. She finally relented and it was so good I ordered my own. Can't remember the last time I had a dog and a burger in one sitting. Simple concept. Limited menu but that's a good thing. They do what they do very well and that's more important than 100 mediocre choices. Reasonably priced. Great, friendly service. Outdoor only seating lends to the grab and go vibe. Having just return from our first trip to Chicago and missing an authentic Chicago dog we stumble upon Pearl's Red Hots! Each got the authentic dog with the delicious buns and all the fixings. We smiled with every bite we took. unfortunately we don't live in Los Angeles but we will make sure this is a stop next time in town. Owner is a great guy to talk to. read more

Fittingly, the lease was signed on what would have been her 101st birthday. Founded by LA restaurant veteran Brad Roen and designer and “what-can-I-eat” advocate Valerie Roen, Pearl’s brings an authentic taste of Chicago to Los Angeles, rooted in tradition and built on quality. Meet the Business Owner: Brad R.

Meet the Owners Brad, Commander in Beef, is a lifelong restaurateur with more than 40 years in the LA food scene. From his first Chicago-style hot dog stand to beloved local spots like Vitello’s, Brad has spent decades serving up good food and even bigger personality. Pearl’s brings him back to where it all started: behind the counter, on the grill, and honoring his late mother, Pearl. Retirement never stood a chance. Valerie, the Brains Behind the Buns, is a former engineer turned designer, operator, and hot dog joint co-captain. She’s the creative and operational force behind Pearl’s, handling everything from branding and menu design to technology and making sure gluten-free and vegan guests have plenty to eat. I'd heard nothing but raves about their chili and the array of dishes built around it. The spaghetti did not disappoint as I found their chili beefy, savory, and super flavorful, especially with the addition of the onions and cheese that is a must for the dish. Plus, thanks to the recommendation of the server, the chili was also noticeably spicy and this added a well-appreciated punch of fire to the whole entree. The service was amazing. It was personable and helpful, as the dude was full of recommendations and commentary about a menu and business he obviously had a deep affection for. I wish all restaurants had service this deeply dedicated to providing a superb experience to all its customers. The ambiance was distinct, it is on the small side of dining areas, with all the seating being a horseshoe pattern around the central service area. It also wasn't the most modern interior or exterior, but I feel that's part of its charm. It feels like a place with a deep history of being an area establishment for decades. It breathes character and charm. I can't think of a better place to eat a bowl of traditional chili whose recipe hasn't been fudged with in decades. Overall, I can't recommend this place more highly. This is my kind of place and somewhere I hope to frequent going forward.

I love that all of the flavors balance each other out--there's not a single ingredient that overpowers another, or any that there's too much or too little of. There are a couple of tables outside, and sometimes they'll also open up their indoor seats. Service can be busy when they're busy but I've never waited more than 10 minutes to get my food.
