The Chicken & Waffles was my favorite! The chicken was nice and crispy and the waffle was a sweet corn waffle. It came with these little morsels of grilled peaches and I wish there had been more of them because I could've eaten a whole bowl of them. The Peck and Plume Bowl was my least favorite dish but that's only because it was VERY tart and I wasn't expecting that. It has passion fruit, banana, blueberries, yogurt, granola, coconut flakes, and bee pollen. We also got the Eggs Benedict which came with country ham and wilted spinach on top. It was our first visit. I was pretty excited for the scallops. Unfortunately they are switching chefs so they didn't have them on the menu. We ordered the Butrata instead....but it never came so I can't comment on it. They also didn't take it off the bill which I didn't notice until our drive home. The server was engaging and sweet. He was willing to answer questions but seemed a little weeded. Perhaps he's new. Still her was personable and kind. The drinks, a Dirty Martini and Hibiscus Tonic were fantastic. I'm on a quest to find the best Dirty Martini in the area and this is in contention. I ordered the burger and my husband got the shrimp and grits. We'd say they were "fine". Neither the meat nor shrimp were seasoned. That said they were cooked well. The grits were well done and the relish was on target. The fries were also fantastic. I got an opportunity to return to Peck & Plume. Peck & Plume is located inside the Mayton Inn in Cary. There is no dedicated parking area, but I was able to find parking closeby. We were a large group and dined in the main dining area. We were all seated together. Brian was our server, and very attentive and stayed on top of things. He knew the menu well and offered suggestions for some in the group. It did get loud when the dining area was about half full. But I do love the restaurant's decor. I went with the local lettuces salad this time and added grilled shrimp. I expected more than four pieces of shrimp, though, for a $25 salad. I did enjoy both, but wouldn't spend that again, knowing what I'd be getting. The Benedict changes week to week, and that week's special didn't appeal to me but that is normally what I'd order for brunch. It is too bad they don't have the classic version on the menu alongside the special of the week. We were given separate checks, and my iced teas kept coming, so my glass never went empty. The beet salad was delicious, and the pork shoulder was good. The risotto had good flavor but was sticky. The huge disappointment was the filet. UPDATE: I had been here for Sunday brunch when it was called Verandah many years ago but recently had the chance to experience weekday breakfast at the now Peck & Plume inside The Mayton in downtown Cary. The aesthetic itself is still very nice inside, very sharply done with a combination of finished wood and modern looks with nice contrasts. Since it was very early, I had the indoor seating area to myself this day. I was started off quickly with coffee and water, with a breakfast menu to look over. There were many things that stood out on the menu that looked delicious but I went with their Two Eggs Breakfast selection that comes with choice of bacon, pork or chicken sausage (I chose the latter); choice of breakfast potatoes, fruit, or cheddar grits (again, went with the latter); and choice of white/wheat/sourdough toast or biscuit (again going with the latter). It was a bit of a wait for preparation/arrival of my meal but nothing extremely long. When it arrived, I was a bit surprised that the food presentation was a bit less than what I would expect from this type of restaurant (I did like the plate itself looking a bit "Seagrove pottery-esque" in appearance). However, the taste of the food was great and I enjoyed all my selections including my scrambled eggs. The grits were good and creamy, not thin, excellent consistency. If splitting hairs, I'd say the biscuit was just a little too browned for my taste but still, it was a good biscuit nonetheless here. My server was very nice and helpful throughout. Went for Sunday Brunch to celebrate a birthday. None of us had been. The ambience is great. Very welcoming and relaxing setting. We were seated promptly outside on the patio. Our server was with us quickly and very attentive throughout. If you like spicy Bloody Marys, this one was spot on! Very tasty with a big bite. We all really liked our food - avocado toast, breakfast burrito, burger, and croque madame. Generous portions and very tasty. Everyone was very impressed and we'll definitely be back. The reason for 4 stars? The flies were unbearable. The waiter said they're always bad this time of year. How about investing in those little fly deterrent fans? First time visiting Peck & Plume for brunch and I STAN! Justin was a gracious host and server who offered great suggestions on the menu. Hubs and I settled on the Huevos Rancheros, bacon, eggs, and the French toast brick-- all fantastic! We also tried and loved the Mayton mimosa and the cold fashioned from the brunch cocktail menu. Superb! I had the distinct pleasure of meeting BOB, manager extraordinaire, who was effortlessly serving lewks, gorgeous hair, and grace while setting up for an event and floating through the dining room. I'm a huge fan! All in all, this experience was by far our favorite brunch in Cary thus far, and we'll be back real soon as there are at least 3 more brunch items on the menu that I need to try. My mom chose this place to celebrate her birthday!! It's inside of the Mayton Hotel. Parking was kind of a hassle but once that was figured out we were good. AS SOON as you enter the front doors it smells AMAZING inside. We were seated fairly quickly and our waitress did an excellent job with recommendations. It appears the menu always changes. Starters: Wings(MUST TRY), Tuna Crudo(I enjoyed it) and the Pork & Pimento Cheese Fondue. I was excited to take the fondue home to have for the next day then we found a string of hair in the fondue, we informed our waitress and the manager came over and apologized and resolved the issue. Outside of that the starters were good. Entrees around the table: Ribeyes, Burgers, Spare Ribs and a Chicken Sandwich. No complaints with any of these. My son said he wished he had a bigger portion of the Spare Ribs. Desserts: Lemon Poundcake with strawberries and gelato(the cake was not moist at all, the strawberries and gelato were definitely the stars on the plate hands down. We also ordered the donuts and coffee, you get 3 small donuts(DELICIOUS) and chocolate gelato, I'm not really a chocolate person so that was just ok in my opinion. We sat in the "library" for a bit while the rest of our party arrived which was comfy. Once our entire party arrived, we were sat in the dining room which was very spacious. We wandered into Peck & Plume on a Sunday afternoon thinking we'd grab a quick lunch--plot twist: it was brunch-only. But hey, when life hands you brunch, you lean in. The avocado was sliced instead of the usual smashed mush, which actually made for a really fresh, clean bite. There were some big flakes of salt on top that added the perfect hit of flavor. But I wasn't impressed with our brunch. Their drip coffee is great. For my entree, I had The Benediction. And the weekly twist was dill and chive in the hollandaise sauce which wasn't that big of a twist for me. The ham was more of a pork chop than the usual ham. The meat was so thick and dry. The breakfast potatoes were even sadder. The flavors were all there but it was so mushy! The grits that my partner had were delicious. The fruit preserves for his biscuit were too sweet. Our server didn't check up on us or refill our coffee after she took our order. She did apologize at the end when she brought our checks. The hotel property is charming and thoughtfully designed, with a mix of tables, sofas, and comfortable chairs that create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We arrived 3/4 past noon and chose to sit in the study/library area rather than the main dining room. I would strongly recommend this option. The study is quiet and comfortable, while the main restaurant area was noticeably louder. The proximity allows you to enjoy the ambiance without the noise. The menu offerings felt fairly typical for this style of restaurant. We tried the skillet cornbread. It was served room temperature and on the dry side. However, the whipped butter that accompanied it was excellent. Unfortunately, the cornbread was not warm enough to melt it, which would have improved the experience. The Italian wedding soup was very good and served properly hot. We also ordered the local lettuces salad with chicken. The salad itself was fresh, but the chicken was visibly dry and tasted the same. Interestingly, placing the chicken into the soup made it more enjoyable. The double cheeseburger was average. The bun struggled to hold together under the two patties and cheese. The flavor was acceptable but not memorable. Our server was exceptional. Attentive, professional, and gracious throughout the meal. The service elevated the the mediocre experience. Overall, Peck & Plume offers a beautiful setting and excellent service. For a quieter meal, request the study/library seating. While the food was satisfactory, it did not quite match the charm of the surroundings. Would we go again? Maybe. If we did, we would order different items. Grabbed lunch here recently and had an OK experience. Well, I say lunch, but it was actually brunch :) I was a little surprised that we weren't given a lunch menu since we ate around 11:30 AM, but not a huge deal. We snagged a table inside for our family - it would have been even nicer to eat outside, but all of those tables were taken, unsurprisingly. Our server did a pretty good job of being present throughout our meal, especially since the restaurant was pretty busy. I ordered the deconstructed lox bagel for myself, while my wife got the burger with a side Caesar salad. The food arrived reasonably quickly, and it was pretty tasty! My lox bagel had all of the different ingredients laid out on the plate in piles (smoked salmon, cucumber, capers, and pickled onions) as well as cream cheese in a small bowl. I'm not really sure why they didn't just make the bagel for me - I guess some people like choosing how much of each ingredient to put on their bagel? Anyway, everything tasted good! My wife liked her burger OK but it didn't blow her away. One shocking thing was that the kids' meal was $15, which was virtually the same price as my lox bagel ($17) and my wife's burger ($16)! We got a side of fruit for my toddler instead, which was only $5 and had a surprisingly low percentage of melon :) Normally it's like 80% melon! They also provided crayons for coloring the kids' menu, which is always a nice touch. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience at all, but I'm not sure I would come back here for lunch (or brunch), especially with my kids. We had a birthday gathering on Mar. 16th. I ordered the short rib dish. This was the second time I went there for dinner and ordered the short rib. The first time I received a fatty short rib. More fat than meat. I've had short ribs at different restaurants and they were delicious. This in no way compared. This last time I went, I received shredded short rib meat over ( I forget what the starch was, which was tasty) , the shredded meat could not of been more than 2 ozs. of meat, if that. I wish I had taken a picture, so you would know that I am not exaggerating. Brussel sprouts were delicious. Then when everyone was checking out, I looked at my sister's bill, as she bought my birthday meal, they had tacked on a charge that was almost as large as the tip. I had recently read about restaurants adding these charges. Calling them different things and getting away with it most of the time. If you notice this being done, you have the right to request that they remove it. I did just that and they immediately removed it, no questions asked. I find that insulting. If anyone else has had a similar experience, I wish they would let the public know. They do have some good food, just not short ribs. Service was good and so was atmosphere. read more

During our Saturday visit, the dining room and outdoor patio were full and busy. Book your reservation using OpenTable and earn dining points that can be used for discounts at other OpenTable restaurants, Amazon gift cards, and more. Not all restaurants on OpenTable award dining points, but Peck & Plume does, so that's a plus. Peck & Plume opened in August 2021 inside The Mayton. The Mayton was formerly known as The Mayton Inn. Per Cary Magazine, after The Mayton Inn was bought out of bankruptcy in June 2020, it rebranded as The Mayton (they dropped the "Inn" part). My favorite dish was the French Toast Brick. I think it's called "Brick" because of its brick-like shape. It was French toast smothered in a sweet and tangy berry sauce with whipped mascarpone. Delicious. Yummy texture too. My wife really liked the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. I thought it and the Smoked Salmon Scramble were tasty. The Smoked Salmon Scramble was well made. The garlic cheese grits were terrific. You get to choose them as part of the Two Eggs plate (the other choice is breakfast potatoes). They're included with the Warm Stone Fruit Preserves. The Mayton Burger and bacon were solid as well, but nothing to write home about. All that said, nothing was bad and I don't think you can go wrong with anything in the list of items we ordered above. My wife and I enjoyed the Bloody Marys. The Bloody Mary is one of our favorite cocktails and Peck & Plume's version hit the spot. I liked their twist with the cornichon, green olive, and pepperoncini. Yum. Service from our server, Hadley, and the hostess was great. Despite a busy brunch service, Hadley was attentive and everything was served in a timely manner. Peck & Plume and The Mayton have a classy-yet-casual, modern, Southern atmosphere. We ate in the main dining room. There's also a large private event space, the terrace (outdoor patio), and study. The study is a cool space, but it's more like a lounge for drinks rather than a meal. We were blessed with Patio seating, which had views of downtown Cary park. It was a perfect weather day and it was great to sit out there. When we first saw the menu, we did think it was a little basic, but quickly learned that you can do a lot with the basics. For drinks we had coffee and a Bloody Mary, (spicy to my liking). I got the huevos rancheros and my wife got the fried green tomatoes. Back to taking about "basics", check out the pictures. The huevos rancheros came in a light crispy tortilla bowl. With everything inside, the eggs were cooked perfectly the protein was savory and succulent and the sauce was fantastic. My wife had the friend green tomatoes which are a staple, but they came eggs Benedict style and they were perfect. The crispiness of the tomatoes, paired with the beautifully done poached eggs and green hollandaise sauce was simply the best breakfast food. Finally, the experience wouldn't have been complete if it wasn't for our server Lena. She had great recommendations, was always on top of refills, and was just a joy to have accompany us through this culinary delight. worst brunch experience I've had. We were sat outside without being asked if we preferred outside or inside in 90+ degree heat. We had an 1130 reservation for a special event get together. It was hot. It was miserable. We did not get water for 15 minutes and then we were charged for the water. Without being told that water was not complementary. Took another 15 to 20 minutes to get regular drinks. Then food took about 30 to 45 minutes and eggs came out cold and undercooked. Some food was good, but some people had cold undercooked food. When we asked to speak to the decided to try to argue with us instead of just trying to fix the problem. We were so hot and sweaty. We had to go inside to wait for our which then came out wrong. If you're planning to dine at Peck & Plume, I'd strongly recommend avoiding the tables in the bar area. The noise level there is overwhelming.... you'll hear every ding, clink, and clatter of the entire restaurant , but still struggle to hear the person sitting right next to you. On top of that, the acoustics of the room amplify everything, so conversations from nearby tables carry loudly and make it even harder to focus. We had a retirement brunch here for a colleague and it was a lovely experience. The dining room is very cute and the coffee was very good. They have a good menu with a lot of different options. I got the egg breakfast and I really enjoyed it. The only reason I am deducting a star is because it took quite a long time to have the order taken and for the food to come. We did not have our order taken for about an hour, however, I think there was a misunderstanding with our server as I think they thought we are waiting on one more person. It was not their fault, just a misunderstanding! After the order was taken, it did take about another 40 minutes for the food to come which seemed a but long for breakfast food. I didn't mind as I was very much enjoying the company and the food was good once we did receive it! They also provided our friend a sundae as a happy retirement acknowledgment which was lovely. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience. Food was 10/10. We all ordered the shrimp and grits. Next time I'll order an extra side of grits. They were delicious. Service was a little slow, but our server was friendly and very accommodating. Noise on the patio what's about a five. The wind was strong but we moved tables and it was fine. The heat lamps could have been a little warmer but overall it was comfortable. I will definitely be back soon! read more

Food was good, but service was fairly awful. We waited for over an hour for our meal to come out after we ordered it. The Caesar salad was average, but it was nice that you could get actual anchovies. The shrimp and grits was pretty solid but very rich. It's a good dish to share.. had a really nice West Coast IPA by Vicious fishes "there be dragons" Ambiance is charming. It was strange. My husband wanted a roll with his salad, and they appeared to have no bread besides hamburger buns when we were told that there was a great bread bakery just down the street!!! Sunday brunch at the Peck and Plume at the Mayton Hotel in downtown Cary, NC. We sat outside on a beautiful Fall day - screens and louvered ceilings kept the cool air flowing and the sun away from our food. Great drinks - bloody Mary's and mimosas are rich, delicious and loaded with the appropriate alcohol. We had the brick French toast, the shrimp and grits, and the smacked salmon scramble. Southern cooking at its best. Great service added to the experience. A fun Sunday! read more
