Fun drinks and delicious house named whiskey. Everyone raved about their meals, from the salmon to the steak. I had the short ribs with farro risotto and it was spectacular, huge flavor bomb in that risotto and the short ribs were loaded with meat with very little fat/inedible portions. I also started with a Cesar salad and it was OK ( I would pass next time). Unforgettable experience! Server, Rachel P., was so knowledgeable about the menu and truly went out of her way to make sure I had the best dining experience and stay at The Mayton Inn. Clair was our talented server one evening in the library. She was wonderful and made our experience very special. Savannah took care of my whole family for dinner one night and she made it a perfect experience. Jacob was so welcoming and fun behind the bar and made us drinks with presence and flair (pictured). The food was so delicious so I must say, "Compliments to The Chef!" Everything they brought out was a delicacy, true talent there. We went to Peck & Plume for breakfast after leaving our dog for surgery. Have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff at the hotel/restaurant -- very kind to us. But the food ... I can't recommend. My husband got the omelette, which he should have sent back. I got poached eggs, which arrived completely cold ... twice. We decided to leave after try two. One consistent measurement we use for a restaurant is how well they fry their fries. P&P hits this one for an easy triple. They go with a thinner fry and are well fried. The Cuban sandwich was very delicious. We liked how the mustard gave a slight spicy kick and enough acidity to balance the ham and pork. Would have been even better if it was served with half a pickle on the side. I've never had a Kentucky Brown before and this one didn't disappoint me when I tried it. The Mornay sauce slathered over a thick cut of turkey breast and tomatoes made it so scrumptious. Even on a chilly December afternoon, it was comfortable on their renovated patio and gave a beautiful view of the newly finished park. read more

The peanut sauce served with them was a nice touch and really brought out the flavors! The strip steak just left me drooling and wanting more! I am a huge fan of apple butter, but when you combine the sweet taste of the butter plus the texture and flavors of the crust on the steak, I have no other words than just "heaven"! The flavor profile is supurb, and would absolutely get this dish again, and again, and AGAIN! The pasta dish was rustic and flavorful and a definite must try! Hotel restaurants have a reputation for being substandard and to be fair to Peck & Plume, I've had a pretty good breakfast there in the past. But today was just kind of a disaster all around. We went for a quick lunch after we checked out. We were seated and waited 20+ minutes just to get greeted. We ended up ordering drinks and food together to try to be helpful. Server was friendly and handling the busyness with a good attitude, which was nice....we just only saw him to get our order and finally to pay. Food arrived and was barely warm. The fish tacos were served on a platter deconstructed which was interesting but not in a good way. Fish was cold, dry and tough. Corn tortillas were also cold and dry. I'm guessing the salsa to be black bean and pepper, it was tired and uninspired, flavors were just basic. The star of the plate was the cilantro sauce and the jicama slaw but overall very forgettable and not worth finishing. The burger was actually warm but again, uninspired and thick and tough. The potato chips served with it were nice and crunchy but lacked salt or any type of seasoning. I can easily forgive slow service when it's busy and the servers are doing their best, it happens no problem. But the food wasn't worth the wait or the money and we regretted our choice. I would give 3.5 stars if possible as 3 seems a bit low considering we've had decent food there before but there are much better choices within walking distance. So when at The lovely Mayton hotel, go to the bar for a drink, the restaurant for a nice breakfast but walk down the street for lunch or dinner. read more

I came here for dinner after work with coworkers one evening. The restaurant itself is located within The Mayton Hotel. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you are immediately transported into a modern American dining experience. The ambience is old colonial crossed with modern decor. It truly is unique and well executed. To start out, my coworkers, and I shared the scallops, cheese plate, and fried green tomatoes. The scallops were divine; the juxtaposition of the soft scallops paired with crunchy onion straws was a nice touch. They offered a nice variety of cheese with the cheese plate; I felt that was well executed. For my entrée I went for the short rib special. The short rib was soft and melted in my mouth. Sometimes short rib can be over cooked but that was not the case here as the short ribs fell apart as you put your fork into it. For dessert, I elected to go for the intense lemon tart; it wasn't overly sweet and the tart paired nicely with some fresh fruit. It was a great combination. read more

I've only had been here for drinks prior to this so I was excited to bring my friend for her birthday brunch! I have zero complaints on food. If you were wondering what a "sip" potion for soup this is it. It's in a cute little tea cup and just enough to get the taste of the soup. I'm absolutely all for this. The eggs Benedict was quite dense but soo delicious! It was supposed to be in cornbread but I switched it out for an English muffin. They lost a star for 2 reasons: 1) you HAVE to make a reservation to be seated. I saw plenty of empty tables but they couldn't "guarantee" them so we had to make a reservation for an hour later and we walked around downtown until our reservation time. Not a fan of that but I guess they are trying to be elevated 2) we were sat in the 'gentleman's lounge' (the room off to the left after you pass the host table) and I honestly think the waiter forgot about us. We were the only people there (which was nice on a privacy standpoint) but also I'm sure it was hard to keep track of us if his other tables were in the other rooms. Not exactly his fault, but he was only there scarcely. No water refills, no checking if we needed anything ‍. Again, not his fault as we were off to the side so take this comment with a grain of salt. But for long we had to wait for the check, I had to mention it. My friend and I dined at Peck & Plume for breakfast on a Sunday. Our reservations were for 9:45am via rezy and when I arrived at the hostess stand, the two ladies discussed the entire seating arrangement for a few minutes in front of me and then eventually escorted me to an open table after the clunky reception. The restaurant is located inside the Mayton Inn and the lobby of this boutique hotel is very warm and welcoming. I did not read the fine print about breakfast and brunch timing. Our server told us that brunch officially starts at 10:30 and breakfast is until 10am. Because we were in between the meals, we had to order from the breakfast menu. I was a little disappointed because I was hoping we could have brunch but that is my fault for not seeing the timing correctly on the bottom of the website. The decor is very nice and light and airy with big windows overlooking a patio. I loved the wallpaper and plant accents and little room across the dining room that looks like a library nook. My friend had coffee with Larry's Beans and I had tea from tea forte. The presentation of the coffee and tea is very nice and upscale. For entrees, we had the two-egg breakfast and the omelette. Each comes with a choice of sausage, wheat toast and choice of potatoes or grits. Considering the ambience and fine-dining experience, my only suggestion would be to serve jam or marmalade in a little glass jar such as the ones from Bonne Maman or Dickinson's Preserves. The Smucker's selection did not go with the overall presentation. The food was solid breakfast food. The restaurant was full and was a nice mixture of families with smaller children, hotel patrons and friends celebrating with mimosas (after 10:30). First things first!! If you want to park for this spot you have a few options- 1) Charles Gaddy has a parking lot across 2) a lot behind the hotel 3) side street so in case you're like me and parking challenged in downtown areas you are now covered! You will walk into the Mayton and the lobby area, so take a moment to stop and rest and then proceed forward to Peck and Plum. You'll be taken to your table. We ordered from the brunch menu which was a pleasant surprise to see we still could. Splitting the two orders between two people and we had A LOT of leftovers; now if you came ravenous maybe it would be all gone, but regardless there is plenty between two people. The stone fruit preserves comes from a mixture of fruits with "pits" aka stones in this case apricots etc. also bacon 4-6 slices and herbaceous grits. Now I'm picky being a southerner about grits, so these were alright (they had a film) the herbs and fact yo could taste the use of cream are what saved them in m book. The spicy chicken waffle was fun- the chicken was the showcase here with a lot of flavor and made easy for sharing because it was flat. The waffles were airy and satisfying as well. The establishment itself is interesting not extremely noisy, and holding a conversation wasn't overpowered by music or with a limited space either. I hadn't been to "new" peck and plume since they rebranded started so I was excited to try their brunch -- because we have only had their dinner! The Mayton Inn is a really beautiful hotel. The decor is lovely throughout the hotel and the restaurant. We sat outside, which was so nice with the lighted umbrellas. I debated between 3 or 4 stars since some dishes were delicious, but some were nothing to write home about. Our favorite was the fried brussel sprouts. Amazing! The sprouts had honey mustard, which was such a delicious flavor combination. I tried the vegetable grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Meh, I didn't like it. It was mostly just mushrooms with no flavor and I could hardly taste any cheese. I told our server that I wasn't a huge fan and she graciously took it off the check. My husband had the fish tacos. The corn tortillas and the sauces were so delicious, but we weren't crazy about the actual fish. He also had an old fashioned and it was very good; the huge ice cube was a nice touch. We enjoyed the apple and berry crumble for dessert. It was made to order and the crumble was served hot with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Yum!! Our server was kind and somewhat attentive. We ordered a pitcher of the Mayton mimosas that are prepared with vodka, orange and pineapple juices and champagne. We were provided with two glasses of ice with one cherry. My glass had a dark residue on the rim. Once it was brought to our servers attention she apologized and brought me a clean glass with a mimosa to replace the one that had been poured into the dirty glass. The mimosas were good and not watered down. For brunch I got the creme brûlée French toast and a side of bacon. The French toast tasted just like creme brûlée! The French toast was topped with whipped cream, blueberries and strawberries. And the bacon was crisp and not greasy. I really enjoyed my meal. The Mayton bowl also looked good and fresh. The food was alright. I got the chicken sandwich and the meat was quite dry. It was just a basic sandwich with lettuce, tomato and cheese for $18. My soup had no flavor and I regretted getting it.
