We rented paddle boards to take out onto the river and the ocean and they were so helpful and friendly. They helped us get them on the car and honestly it was super easy to get them back on the car to return. And it's a very short drive from the store to access the ocean and the river. I love this place for an active, one-stop, rent bunches of stuff day. Kayaks, bikes, snorkeling gear (and corrective lens gear)...and everything you need for camping! They will rent you a tent, stove, sleeping bag...and then have everything you need for purchase, from freeze-dried food to hiking boots. Not feeling quite as adventurous as your friends? Then just rent a damn beach chair and plop your ass down. read more

The staff here was extremely laid back (of course) and helpful (right on). The snorkel gear is $5 a day or so, and it comes with everything you'd expect, including some with corrective lenses. Best activity we did. Tip: Go to Tunnels beach on the left side. read more

Great prices. To rent snorkel equipment the prices are really good, only $5 a day. They also sell a bunch of stuff like floats, snorkel stuff, stickers, hats, and postcards also reasonably priced. They lady who was working was nice and told us about the beach we were going too. The snorkel stuff worked well too. Highly recommended. read more

I would recommend going down the street to Kauai Beach Boys rentals. Right after we checked into our Airbnb we came here and were greeted with very bad customer service. We wanted to rent 3 paddle boards for 4 days and they told us the water was too choppy for us to even go so we left and walked down and rented the boards elsewhere. read more

We were looking for Hanalei Surf to rent snorkel gear and couldn't find it. That's how we ended up at this place, I think. They have cute souvenirs for sale, and the employees are friendly. Their equipment was poor quality, we found. Yes they are cheap, but it's probably for this reason. There is poor selection of snorkel shops up on the North Shore. Next time, we'll stop at Snorkel Bob's in Kapaa on the way up. At least we are familiar with their quality. read more

So we rented snorkel gear for the week and when we returned it they accused us of stealing gear! All the gear was in the bag plainly but apparently the snorkel wasn't one of theirs. They made us pay all these fees and the head guys exact words were "if you screw us we will screw You". They totally denied the existence of customer service. We visit the island every 2-3 years, and have been renting SUPs and kayaks, fins and snorkels, and bicycles from Scott's shop for well over a decade now. He and his staff are always polite and helpful. Their rates are always reasonable. Contact them ahead of travel if it is summer or near a holiday. They gave us broken snorkel goggles that constantly filled up with water. Sucks because we obviously couldn't snorkel like that. However, the reason why I'm giving this place 1 star is because of the customer service. You'd think they wouldn't charge for broken snorkel gear but the girl working there insisted on charging for the flippers only. That's just bs in my opinion and poor customer service. Prescription goggles! At least one staff member (blond, young, polish) was super nice and helpful (dark hair and young employee to whom we returned our equipment could use a lesson in smiling and feigning interest in customers). The rentals were super inexpensive, they carry prescription goggles and they give you a mesh bag to carry it all in. Awesome. Highly recommend just getting a week long rental from here if Hanalei is convenient for you, or get a day rental is you're going up to the north shore for a day. read more

This place was just what we were looking for - quick and decently priced gear. We came in and were out within five minutes completely outfitted with gear and recommendations on the best snorkel spots on the island. The best part is that they will give you the best rate that applies to your rental when you return the gear. That way you don't have to preemptively decide how long you want to keep it. read more

We rented a kayak here for 1/2 day. Despite our SUV rental not having a roof rack, they used a "Hawaiian roof-rack" (AKA 2 foam pads and some come-along tie-downs) . My 6'3" husband and my wimpy 5'4" self managed to heave-ho it on and off the roof, but it was not easy. About 1/2 a mile away you can get into Hanalei river and kayak up river or go a tiny ways down river and into the bay. The bay looked choppy that day , so we elected to go up the river. It was fun and relaxing and go at your own pace. I was only good for 2 hours of paddling, so we returned it early. Quick and easy rental and returns and friendly staff. read more

Rented snorkel equipment for my family. Also rented a zayak for the toddler. The zayak was cool- a little floating boat with a clear window. It didn't work as well as I hoped and wouldn't rent again. The prices were very good. Service was fine- not overly friendly so minus the 1 star. read more

Really cheap rates for snorkeling - $5 per day; very friendly staff to help adults and kids get fitted nicely. On the way to Hanalei and Tunnels beaches. They were very helpful in guiding us to great places to snorkel. Tunnels is still our favorite - you are almost guaranteed to see turtles every trip there. read more

This place had pretty much everything I needed on my trip out here. Snorkel gear, bikes, body boards, etc. They even put a basket on my bike for me per my request which I thought was pretty cool! Super nice folks and good service. They also sell a lot of cool souvenir type items which I usually despise; but the things they sell here aren't your generic trinkets and tee shirts, so I definitely spent some money on things for people back home. The only complaint I have is that they don't rent surfboards, but I guess that's what surf shops are for. But if they had rented them, I probably wouldn't have needed to visit any other store! read more

My wife and I went in for snorkel gear, everything was very good quality and they made sure our masks fit really well. Price was only $5 a day for mask, snorkel, fins and snorkel bag. Snorkel Bob's charged us $11 a day on the other side of the island. Also found some good quality, lightweight baseball hats for $15, half the price of anywhere else in town. Went down to snorkel at Tunnels, parking was a mess. Go early unless you want to walk a ways. But worth the hike, saw a sea turtle in 3-4 feet of water and watched it for cruise around feeding on coral for about 15 minutes. read more

Excellent place to rent snorkel equipment. $5 for adults and $4 for kids. Very friendly staff. Took their time with us and made sure my kids' equipment fit. When we were out at the beach one of the straps on a snorkel mask broke. We told them when we returned it just to let them know and they ended up not charging us for that set. I wasn't trying to get anything for free and I would've paid for all the equipment that I rented but they apologized that it broke. It was a nice surprise and I still feel bad because I would've paid for it. But great company. Will always come back here to rent equipment. read more

I rented a kayak from them on a rainy day. The guy checking out our equipment for us gave very little help, and acted as if we were off in the head for kayaking in the rain. He told us it was a day rental, not a 24 hour rental. I asked him what happens if we don't get back before closing. He said we got charged an additional day. Fair enough. We kayaked all day and had to drive a few hours to the drier side of the island. By the time we got back the store had closed. No problem, I'll just "get charged an additional day." I checked my phone a few hours later (service was in and out) and was surprised to see I had a bunch of calls from the store. (5 of them) The calls started off irritated, then progressed to threatening. The last call said he would be forced to call the police and make a report if I didn't get back to him. You would think they never had someone return late from a kayak tour. That's why they took my credit card imprint, so they can charge me if the equipment is lost while in my possession. I called him back and he was like a broken record saying "I really need my equipment back" over and over. I reassured him several times I would return it tomorrow well before closing time and he can charge me for an additional day and he said I was "taking advantage of the situation." This guy (the owner I assume) is not playing with a full deck. There are plenty of kayak rentals in Hanalei. Avoid this one. read more

The girl working there was texting during our entire transaction and didn't even look at me, didn't say thanks or anything and was very upset that I was interrupting her thumbs from communicating with her friends. On the other hand when I rented the gear the girl working there was very nice and courteous. So I guess it is a mixed review. I imagine good help is hard to find in a town like Hanalei. read more
