Before you drive 5 miles off of 290 just know they will not sell you a glass of wine so you can sit on the patio and relax. They ONLY have glass service to "members". The views from this vineyard is awesome! We bought a bottle of Tempranillo to share. My daughter had a glass of white. With a party of 4, getting a bottle of wine is much cheaper than do 4 tastings. So I'm pregnant, again. Yay! 3 baby boys...what a neat world I'm building right?!?!? (That was all sarcasm folks, all sarcasm) Anywho, I visited Pedernales as a spectator this time rather than my true calling in life, which is full blown wine drinker. However, I will say that the atmosphere here made my heart happier than most of the wineries I visited that day. It's like your walking into your grandpas very nice ranch house and having a drink. The staff was super nice and didn't look at me funny when I said I couldn't partake with the girls Bc I was Preggo. She pulled out a wine glass and offered me a sparkling non alcoholic drink:) Super nice of them! Had a great time this last weekend. Bought two bottles of wine and hung out on the patio. The wine was delicious and we enjoyed the live music and scenery. Highly recommend if you're looking for a winery off the beaten path. (It's about two miles from the main road into Fredericksburg so you don't hear the traffic driving by.). Used to be one of my favorites, but NO customer service whatsoever. We drove all the way here from Austin (1.5 hour drive) and were turned away. There were several tables open. I even offered to sit on the lawn where they have 5 acres. I explained that we just drove all the way here from Austin and she went to check with her manager. They said they had room if we wanted to buy a bottle of wine, but would not let us stay for a $20 per person tasting, or even if we bought a glass. Sadly we will never be back here and the disrespect and rudeness will always leave a bitter taste in my mouth. This Texas winery is a NO WAY and never again stop for us. We come this way about 6 times a year and always stop here. Sad that they are willing to lose customers like this. read more

We were visiting Fredericksburg with some family and they wanted to go to one of the many wineries and sit and have a glass. We chose Pedernales because we had been here before and really liked the wine and the killer views. We were a little shocked at the price of the tasting, it was $16.00 dollars and the price for a glass of wine I believe was $14.00. I don't remember it being this expensive and the wines seemed to taste much better before? Regardless, it has the best views of all the wineries in the area. Quick Tips: For great wine, you should come here. They have won many awards and have some of the best wine in Fredericksburg. But honestly, I don't come to Texas wineries for the best wine, I come for the best service. And this winery is sorely lacking. From flippant servers to minimal bar space, I didn't think much of my experience at this winery. I only give it 3 stars because I can't deny their wine was good. Wine: Viognier will be a popular white wine in Fredericksburg, because it is made from a type of grape that can withstand the harsh Texas weather. Pederanles Cellar has one of the best Viogniers (The Viognier Reserver). You should definitely make sure to try this light and delicious white wine. Service: Shoddy server who didn't seem like he had the time for us. I had a few questions about a few of their wines and accolades and he seemed inconvenienced at my interest. read more

The tasting room is beautiful and the expansive shaded porch with a variety of comfy seating and a fantastic spanning view over the 290 ranch lands watching the clouds pass by on the horizon is the highlight of this place. For 12.95 you can receive a tasting of the 9 wines and keep a souvenir glass. The price for the overall quality I didn't feel matched. The best price point was the Viognier, which was also one of standouts for me of the 9. Also, I enjoy a good dessert wine, and the Texas Ruby, a non -vintage Ruby "Port" was memorable to me. Overall, an OK experience. I like that they use all Texas grapes and are family owned. But the best part was sitting outside with that view, some ITunes music, and a glass of Viognier. read more

Abigail gave us an amazing tour of the facility. After the tour, she mentioned it was her first time giving a tour and we were blown away. She presented herself as a veteran tour guide. They must have a new building because this was our group's second stop on a Hill Country wine tour and the building was unfinished. There were wires hanging down from the ceiling above the bar where I presume some lighting fixtures would go. One of the fans was missing a blade. Painter's tape lined one side of a window. A cluster of paint cans and renovation equipment sat in a corner. However, they were clearly open for business with people relaxing on an outdoor uncovered, but shady patio listening to live music. There were a few busy stations indoors where people could purchase tastings and try various wines. There were a few cheeses and chocolates for sale in addition to their wines. We sat in a room for a private wine and food pairing. We had to be careful with the double doors because if you slid one too far, it was attached only at the top railing and blew back and forth with the wind. We tasted about 10 wines moving from whites to reds to desserts to pair with small trays of Gouda, water crackers, salami, and dark chocolates. All of the wines are made from Texas grapes, some not locally due to weather conditions. I wouldn't call it so much a "food pairing," but more of a "snack pairing" which admittedly doesn't have quite the same ring. Once you're out of the delicious mild Gouda or salami, you're out. So, as with any wine tasting, don't come on an empty stomach! read more

We happened upon this winery and cellar during a girl's weekend to Fredericksburg. We opted to get the flight tasting, which includes 6 different wines, a glass, and a server (ours was Jason) to explain each wine. Grape stomping was going on, but we arrived later in the day and ran out of time. We had an unexpected tour of the cellar, that really increased our appreciation of the wine making process and made it a unique experience. We all purchased bottles to take home. Cancelled membership today after joining over 10+ years ago. My family and I were driving back to FWT from San Antonio and I thought we could swing by and sample something new they may have since it was my wife's birthday. When we asked if we could do a sample of some of their reds we've never tried, we were told reservations would be required otherwise we could have a glass of wine at the discounted price. Keep in mind we were driving 4+ hours back so not looking to have a glass of wine, but just try a sample of 3 or 4 reds and buy some bottles to take back. Here's what makes Pedernales Cellars different than the main drag wineries. 1) they have a passion for making wine. 2) they have a passion for making new friends. 3) they don't just make wine, they make a few masterpieces that will have you coming back for more. Mike took the time to stay open and give me a short tour even though I arrived right before closing time. Mike has a passion for wine making and getting it right with the guests that walk in the front door. Pedernales Cellars is off the beaten path, but oh it so worth it. The view that you get from the outside deck area is breathtaking. The staff is exceptional in their attention to detail and the facility is by far the best in the area. A relaxing comfortable escape. The outside deck area underneath the trees will whisk you away from your everyday worries to spend time with those you car about. We enjoyed being wine club members for many years, but then they completely changed their benefits recently and so it was time for us to go. Today we stopped by for the first time as non-members. If you're not a member of the wine club, don't stop here. You get one choice if you want to buy a glass, and all their wines are overpriced (as are most Texas wines). Go to Total Wine and get two bottles of Cali or French wine instead. read more

Was looking forward to visiting this winery. Customer service was horrible. We were in for a girls birthday weekend of 4. We arrived and walked inside and asked if we had a reservation and if we were members. Informed them no and just wanted to have a glass of wine. We were escorted outside and were told we would have to buy a bottle. After tasting a sample and feeling like we were not welcomed, we left. Will not return and it's a shame as it's pretty on the outside but staff needs to follow same characteristics. read more

I love this winery! First off it's on top of a hill and the views of the hill country are second to none. They have a hillside lawn where you can sit, drink wine and watch the sunset. Truly amazing!!! The winery is very nice inside. From the grounds to the interior of the winery are well kept. Staff is very nice. Everyone is so accommodating. Very knowledgeable of there products but, in the same breath not snobby. They are definitely not wine snobs looking down on you. You feel very welcome at this winery. Which is how you are supposed to feel. I always look for a winery that just wants you to have fun and enjoy each other's company. The staff is very engaging and fun to be around. Not one mention of joining a wine club which is very refreshing. The wines are very good. Not one I did not like. My only comment would be it maybe time to expand the tasting room soon. It wasn't busy the day we went but, with all these winery's growing in popularity it's something Pendernales may want to address. All in all it was a great experience and definitely will go here again. read more

I've been coming to Pedernales for years. Personally, I think they have the best Tempranillo on the wine trail and I've hit 80% of the wineries out here. The viognier is top notch as well. The downfall as you will read in other reviews is service and ambiance. If you happen to catch them on a quiet day when the busses aren't here, you should have a nice time. If it's slammed, be prepared for crazy loud drunk annoying people everywhere. Yeah I know it's a winery but they tend to attract weirdos here for some reason. The views are awesome and the patio is a great spot to chill with a glass. They also have a nice assortment of stuff to buy inside between jewelry to chutney, we've bought some good stuff from here. They also host great events such as Riedel tastings, wine maker events and such. But the vino brings us back. We bought a bunch of the 2012-2015 reds as those were the best and we stocked up! Do a reserve tasting and you'll know what I mean! They rivaled California stuff. Here as well as other wineries, the recent crops and releases of Tempranillo have been pretty boring. Plenty of Mouvedre blends and we've noticed a style change, lack of structure, very thin wines, and weak finish. Initial fruit forward but then disappoints. Again it isn't just here, but across the 290 trail. Hoping the wines come back around, we dropped 2 other clubs on this past trip because of, but we kept ours here because of the reserve library wines. Their Wine club has changed a bit. I liked the old way. The previous club pick ups, they had stations with wine and a pairing of some type of food, chocolate, cheese, etc. Now you check in and hit the tasting bar for a tasting and that's about it. There is a food truck now and some classes. We really enjoyed the pairing and moving around. I guess to each his own, but wish they'd bring the old version back. read more

A beautiful winery with a view. The Pedernales Cellar experience reminded me of some of the scenic wineries of the West Coast. Our server inside was your traditional professional and was somewhat friendly but mostly focused on selling why Texas wines are the next California (spoiler alert: they're not). That said, we had a nice tasting of slightly better than average wines (nothing was bad, but nothing was great). The vertical heavily focused on Tempranillo (not my fave). Outside, they offered wine stomping; boosting this review a full star. This probably wasn't like what you've seen in the movies. However, for the price of free, I highly recommend taking off your shoes and stomping a few grapes between your toes in an old bathtub overlooking the Hill Country (and yes, you get to spray yourself with a hose afterwards!). read more

The view here is great, as well as the service. Jeremy did s great job of taking care of us and was very personable. I also liked that we were able to share a tasting, as some places won't allow that. When you visit multiple wineries in a day, it gets to be too much for one person! The only part of the experience I didn't care for was that as soon as you walked in, you were greeted at the door by someone telling you your tasting options and then paying right there. I prefer to visit wineries where you can stroll in and have time to take in the ambiance and enjoy the tastings before being bombarded for payment. But that's just my personal preference. Their wines weren't my favorite of the day but they weren't terrible either. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to returning again, however, I'd prefer to explore some other options in the area on my next visit. read more
