San Francisco has many great places to get matcha in San Francisco. Don Juan de la Matcha also on the hunt for places to get matcha. There is one place which I often go to because it has lots of indoor seating along with lots of seating outside and it includes a quad with grass to lay out in the sun. It's quiet and I don't have to hear endless unnecessary yapping inside because it's a library at San Francisco State University and it's the Peets Coffee & Tea. It seems Peets Coffee & Tea are closing many locations all across the nation. Although there is a Peets Coffee at Stonestown a long block away from this location the Peets at San Francisco State University which has five times the seating and the layout is much more welcoming. Don Juan del Matcha had to try the Ice Ube Matcha Latte. The drink color pattern appeared as it had Neapolitan ice cream stripes and resembled the hair color patterns of Alyssa Liu but in green , white , and purple. The drink was smooth and tasty and not too sweet. I had to try the croissant which was a bit flakey like some in SF. Overall this is my favorite Peets Coffee location in San Francisco. This Peet's located in San Francisco State University inside the "J. Paul Leonard Library" so you won't hear too much loud yapping that's "unnecessary" but inside you will find treats like Danish with cheese and "blueberry"then caffeinated drinks with almond milk if you don't do "dairy" Inside you find one of Don Juan de la matcha favorite matcha with "Ube" more like a matcha as a "latte" located in the city of San Francisco just don't call it Bay Area or "Cal State East Bay" it's San Francisco State University and the address is "1630 Holloway" read more

WTF? How? Absolute and total bullsh*t! Seriously, how can you claim your hours of operation to be what you post, stating you open at 7:00am, and yet, you're not open? I had just gotten off the night shift at 7:00am and wanted a morning coffee. I'm a little over Starbucks at the moment and I wanted something different. I park, walk onto campus, and arrive to the Sutro Library entrance at 7:20am. Low and behold the doors are locked and I can't get in. What the...? How? A real disappointment. **Picture time** After doing a little bit of investigative digging, I find that the SFSU website states that they actually open at 8:30am, not 7:00am. False advertise much? Who ever designed the remodel of this location has little if no sensibility for the disabled. There has never been an automatic door opener ( ironically as there is a clear blue disable sign posted) but despite that the way the tables were previously arranged there was room for a wheelchair to negotiate through to the order counter. Now If there is a line of people waiting to pick up their beverages there is little room to go through the tables to get to the order counter. I like their coffee better but will stick with Starbucks in Target. read more

A girl standing six feet away from the register unclear if she is inline was acting odd and then becomes rude to me when I proceed to get some coffee even though she was the one to ignore me when I asked her if she is inline or not. The cheese and salami tray with wheat crackers and strawberries (sometimes with grapes) with a large iced cold vanilla latte is a perfect combination for bright sunny days like today. The combo I ordered also contains a good source of protein and calcium. Perfect way to get something to munch and sip on while completing homework assignments or studying for exams. Pros: I used to love coming here during my undergrad years for a nice hot (or cold) drink to start my day. The location is a perfect place to study, get work done, or people watch. After leaving a Yelp review, I contacted SFSU and asked my complaint to be forwarded to the appropriate department. About a week later, I was then contacted by two people, one of them being an operations manager who offered me a drink voucher. While it was a nice gesture, I don't feel that a free drink makes up for finding a bird feather in a cheese and fruits platter. Why was there a wet bird feather in my food in the first place? Are there animals in this food packaging facility? How dirty is this place? My mind was filled with so many questions, and my image of the food vendors SFSU associates themselves with, goes down each time I've found strange things in my food bought on campus. You'll notice that I have another review and picture of hair in a burrito purchased from Healthy U located in the Cesar Chavez center. Trust me, there has been at least three occurrences that I've bought food from businesses at SFSU and have felt disgusted by. I have no intention of returning to this Peet's location and checking if they've improved from 5 months ago would require me to give them my money/business that they do not deserve. Even though I'm not very familiar with the Peet's franchise, to say that this store taints the Peet's brand probably would not be too far from the truth. Originally I was not going to update my rating, but I'm giving them an additional star for attempting to resolve the issue even if their proposed solution is inadequate. This has always been my go-to place on campus for a caffeine fix and for a quick bite to eat. I love this place!!! It's so convenient since I'm always in the library studying. I usually get the turkey and swiss croissant and it's pretty good. It's really filling too. I don't know what is in their coffee, but I can stay awake for hella long after drinking it. I have tried the iced vanilla latte and the hot caramel macchiato. They're both really good but too sweet for my taste...so it's great that you can customize how many pumps of syrup you would like! Just ask the cashier. I recently just tried the pomegranate blueberry green tea infusion and it's okay. It tastes sliiiightly similar to the passion tea from Starbucks. Service is good and they work as fast as they can, to keep the line moving. I'm in the library almost everyday, so I probably will be back tomorrow. read more

Oh.my.gawd. That took almost 20 minutes to get a latte. I really dislike feeling urged to put bad reviews, but this experience warrants one for sure. The purchasing was uneventful, although my cashier could have had me step up sooner to take my order but decided to wait until the girl at the register next to her was done with that purchase. but whatever. My gripe is solely with the amount of time it took to make my coffee (and maaaany others people's coffee). It was slightly busy, but mostly because people were WAITING for their drink. There was seriously 6 to 8 people waiting for drinks, and like 3 people in line. Clearly the making of the drinks was causing the wait. I watched as the two slow pokes making drinks (blond girl, brunette boy) were so busy TALKING that they would actually STOP to finish their sentences or laugh at themselves before continuing their slow journey of coffee making. I mean sloooow, laughing and chatting, standing there while drinks mixed, never prepping the next cup for the next drink, pumping flavors as if the pump was pushing back at them. *sigh* Let's not forget that this is college and many of us are running late, short on time or just not in the mood. By the time my drink came up I had waited in the range of 17 minutes to be served. Bad. Bad. Bad. Move faster, learn to chat in shorter sentences and still move with urgency. Since I bartend, I am WELL AWARE about how important it is to move fast, be accurate and get drinks out ASAFP. The only reason I offerer another store is that the cashier was friendly (although suffered from the same "chat too much and move slow" disability) and the coffee was pretty good, although it should be if it took 15 minutes to make. I was so excited that the library at SFSU had a cafe and even more excited because it was a Peet's!! I've been to other Peet's before and this one doesn't even compare. I been to this Peet's a few times and I am sad to say that I feel as though the customer service has gotten worst and worst every time. Not only are these "baristas" slow at simply putting in your order and taking your payment they are just plain RUDE! The first time I went in I ordered a Vanilla Latte and before I even had the chance to put my money back into my wallet the barista was already calling the next person in line. I understand if it was really busy and if I was taking my sweet time, but there was only one other person in line. The second time I went in I ordered an ICED Chai Latte but the person at the register rung me up for a Chai Latte, no biggie right? Just go ask the barista who is making your drink to make it iced since its what you originally ordered? When I went to ask the barista he gave me attitude saying he would "make sure my drink was iced" and then goes to complain to another co-worker how "it was so busy, and now this girl is asking for her chai latte to be iced"... I didn't think it was THAT hard to put ice into a cup and when I did get my chai latte it tasted like milk on ice. The third time I went in I ordered a small coffee. The girl who was ringing me up took forever and couldn't figure out how to type in $2 on their system (yeah i know she was probably new). After she gives me my change she fails to give me my coffee, so I ended waiting 5 minutes before I had to ask and show my receipt that I actually DID order a small coffee. I agree with Estella L. The management needs to step it up and needs to stop hiring people who lack customer service skills. read more

Finally a Peet's Coffee on campus!! I love Peet's coffee way more than Starbucks. This location is located in the new library, right on the first floor. There are lots of seats so you don't have to worry about finding a seat or table. It gets kind of loud at times but it depends on the time of day. The worst service here ever. After giving this place multiple tries I won't ever order anything the baristas have to make. I'll take a banana please. The baristas don't know how to prioritize. As soon as a new customer walks up they drop everything and start the new order which causes them to forget the previous order. It's multitasking at its worst. Had to wait 20 minutes to get a ham and cheese croissant. I let them to do their jobs but when ask about the status, instead of an apology I was told someone else probably took it. That would make sense except for the fact I was standing right next to the pick up window and was listening intently because I was hungry. I don't know if it's because a new semester just started or if they've got new staff overall, but service and their standards as a coffee spot are definitely below average. Here's a run down of the things that went wrong: -I was never handed back my change (and it wasn't just a few cents) -I specifically ordered my drink without whipped cream, and I could tell upon receiving my drink that they put whipped cream, realized their mistake and only removed the cream, but I could still see significant remnants floating; there was essentially enough to cover the entire drink surface. I can only tell for sure that it was whipped cream because as an individual that's lactose-intolerant, the effects can be felt pretty quick, and let's just say stomach pain was very much so apparent. -I ordered an iced soy mocha without whipped cream, and it only tasted like a soy latte; the chocolate flavor managed to disappear in thin air. This is a really convenient location for students on campus, and they definitely move fast. I also like that there is such a large seating area around the cafe where people can actually talk to each other and study together. However, knowing how busy this place will get and how large of a population is going to be served regularly, they could have done a better job constructing this station. For one, the actual service area is pretty small and I've seen those lines get crazy long. There is one very tiny station for lids and sugar and creamer (very close to the pick up area) and I can imagine at busier times between classes, it gets pretty jammed up with people. Also, they don't take Peet's Coffee gift cards, which would be great because I imagine friends and family would love to buy them for people who frequent the library. read more

Unfortunately, my caffeine addiction pointed me in the direction of a short quad soy caramel macchiato today, and although an effort was made to satisfy this craving, it continues to be unabated. A soy caramel latte, the barista said, comes close. Waited in line amidst the hustle and bustle of overachievers and the like. Finally acquired my beverage - received a large quad caramel latte. It tastes reminiscent of ......... a super concentrated cup of sugar water. I said I asked for it in a short cup so the espresso flavor would be stronger. The barista offered to pour the large into smaller cups (... um...what?). Feeling defeated by miscommunication and a long line, I kept the large and left it at that. Sigh. Was psyched to hear that they opened a Peets on campus when the library reopened. It's just like all the other Peets out there and their coffee is obviously a little pricier than the other cafe's around campus that actually has the same coffee. But hey, it's the same as going to a brand name store vs. going to Macy's just to buy that brand name, right? I drop by here and there for morning coffee and during the summer when no one is really around, it's most pleasant because there's no line at all! The guys here are nice and pretty quick to make their drinks but sometimes they fall behind, but that might be near when they were hiring new people because I noticed that one person had to wait on another to make a particular drink before they were able to move on to other drinks. Hopefully when all that is sorted out, things will work out more smoothly. read more

I'm pleased! 3 1/2 stars, actually, but I thought my experiences have been more positive than not. The location of Peet's on campus is so convenient to all of us students that need our caffeine fix in the morning, afternoon and night for our morning classes, endless studying, or night classes. I usually go in the morning or mid-afternoon. My experiences for both times have been rather pleasant due to the enthusiastic employees. The reason for them lacking one more star is their cart is rather dirty most of the time, every time I come through here. On top of that, they don't label all of their pastries, so I didn't know if I should've gotten one of the muffins or not but the employee and I were joking about it and trying to have some light humor. That was pretty fun. But anyways. 3 1/2 stars, I'm pleased with peet's. I enjoy their iced coffee over starbucks and the fact that I could add as much classic syrup as I want, muahaha! read more

I love that Peet's coffee is on campus in the library lobby and there are lots of seats and tables if you can find one. The coffee at Peet's is better than cafe 101's coffee. I always get a great tasting beverage no matter what I order a mocha or a latte of any flavor. A lot of times the line to order is a bit long because the library is popular with people who want to study or get Peet's on their way to class. One time after I ordered my gingerbread latte during finals before winter break, I was waiting for it for a long time. This guy wearing headphones grabbed my drink and he didn't hear me or just ignored me when I was saying it was my drink. Line was long as is, as I get closer, they ONLY girl working announces that she is the only girl working because two of her co-workers called in and it would be awhile to get to everyones orders. She was calm and professional; apparently she had been by herself for an hour long already. Shouldn't management be doing something about this issue? The employee working there should be given some praise, since the manager left her alone for 1 hour. I was so excited when I learned there was a Peet's on campus to feed my caffeine addiction. I was so disappointed when I learned this Peet's did not take gift cards. That's not really a fair policy. If I pay a company for money to use at their specific locations, I should be able to use it at all of their locations. I can't function without caffeine so out of desperation (and before I discovered Cafe 101), I bought coffee here. The coffee at this Peet's is extra acidic. Coffee itself is naturally acidic, but this was like drinking 1 mol of hydrochloric acid. Never again. I'm glad I don't have to spend my gift cards here. I'd rather go to a Peet's that upholds the Peet's quality. read more

They say you learn something new everyday, right? Today, I learned that certain Peet's locations (i.e. Peet's coffee shops in airports and universities, among other places) don't accept Peet's cards. I stopped by to get some coffee. I stood in line, placed my order and handed over my Peet's card to the cashier. She looked at it as though she had never seen one before in her life. After consulting with another employee, I was told that they don't accept Peet's cards. In hindsight, I should've asked why, but I didn't want to hold up the line. So I paid using my credit card instead. As for my drink (today, I chose a Vanilla Latte)..no complaints. In fact, it was the perfect temperature where it was warm enough to warm my body up on this breezy San Francisco day and, at the same time, cool enough to not sear my tongue. When I got back to my place, I did some research and discovered that apparently Peet's cards are not usable at "licensed locations" such as universities, hotel and airports. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much of an explanation for why this is the case. Other than that, nothing else has changed since my last review. To clarify, I'm not upset about them not accepting my Peet's card and, thus, my review will remain at four stars. However, if someone from Peet's corporate sees this review and can message me to let me know why Peet's cards are not accepted at all Peet's locations, that would definitely be nice. I've received replies in the past from people, presumably from Peet's corporate, in the past when I reviewed other Peet's locations. I'll just have to wait and see. 4 stars read more
