I wanted a therapeutic, rather than a relaxation, massage. I described the headache, shoulder &…read moreneck pain that has been bothering me then Kave provided exactly that! Massage therapy! After Kave's treatment, my entire body felt great and, specifically, my shoulders and neck felt warm, loose, and flexible again. Kave gave me advice for at-home continuing care, which I will follow, but I will also be happy to go to her again for more massage therapy. Note the new location for Amylgama Massage: 317 State Street in Los Altos. The entry for the massage studio is not in the warren of offices the surrounds Fiesta Vallarta but on the parking plaza between Main and State Streets. I looked all around those offices before I found the right place on the plaza :)

I had an odd problem of an aching upper left leg/hip along with an uneven foot strike (like my left leg was slightly shorter), and a persistently sore hamstring. Kave told me that even though the symptoms were on the left, the problem was in my right leg. That sounded odd to me, but after she focused her massage efforts on several seemingly random locations (but it was clear she wasn't guessing and knew exactly how to find them), over several sessions my symptoms lessened. She said that it would take seven sessions, after which improvement would continue for a couple of weeks, and that I should be symptom-free for at least seven months. She was spot on; a couple of weeks after my last session I was all better, and I didn't start getting a sore hamstring for 9 months; time to see her again. It might be worth mentioning that before seeing Kave I had been to a physical therapist at Kaiser who gave me various exercises; they didn't help.

However she's also super chatty and likes to vent about politics, her life, etc during the session, which can make for a super draining and exhausting massage. This was enough to outweigh the good for me personally, and made me leave to search for a better fit for me personally. I saw Stacey a while ago (I'm way behind on my Yelp reviews) for therapeutic massage. PROS: Stacey is clearly a super talented massage therapist who is passionate about her work and her business. I was impressed by her intuition for the human body, her use of massage techniques and tools that I had never seen before but that had a huge therapeutic payoff, and her creativity in approaching massage problem-solving. I noticed a big and tangible difference in my body post-session. CONS: Stacey is definitely a talker and is super chatty, whether or not you feel like talking during your session. I'm more used to massage therapists who have quiet sessions, ask the clients whether or not they want to talk or would like a quiet session, or are better at picking up at signals as to whether or not a client wants to be talking, and letting the client lead whether or not there is conversation during the session. She definitely spent some time venting to me about politics, her life, her partner, etc -- all the venting can make for a super draining and exhausting massage. I found this unprofessional and inappropriate to vent to a client during their session - which is supposed to be entirely about the client and the client's needs, not a therapist's need to talk and to vent to a captive audience (the immobile client). I found the session vibe to be negative at times (not what you want for an expensive massage!) and unpleasant and draining and exhausting. This was enough to outweigh the good for me personally, because I had a hard time going back to work afterwards because I was so drained and exhausted. So it made me leave to search for a better fit for me personally. Stacey's definitely a super talented massage therapist though, with such tangible improvements to clients' bodies -- so if she became more aware of the fact that clients don't want to be vented at during their massage session and that clients may not want to talk during their massage session, she could definitely become a 5-star massage therapist. Prevent other prospective clients on Yelp from encountering the same unpleasant experiences that I have, so that prospective clients can make informed decisions about where they choose to take their business and their dollars, and 2. Provide honest feedback to businesses in hopes that they learn from these experiences and step it up for future prospective clients.
