Brand new restaurant in the Reynoldsburg/East Columbus/Pickerington area that specializes in soul food. We do not have too many true soul food options in Columbus and I believe based on the smells from the kitchen.... Peggy's will hit it out of the park. Unfortunately, I came in just as they were setting up to open for the day and walked in an hour early before they opened to the public. Staff was welcoming. Owner let me walk about and take it all in. Very friendly group of people. I enjoyed how they spoke to each other with respect and joy and there was a playfulness in their tone that makes me certain when you eat here... you will not just get good food but will have a good time. Restaurant was spotless. It has a warm feel and you get a sense that they are are all about family and friends and making people feel seen and welcomed. It has a great vibe. Oh.... Aroma from kitchen was enticing me to stay and order one of everything. They have a nice stage blended into the dining area that they use during the evenings as the restaurant features DJs and bands during the night. My first time here but ny partner has. I liked how they fried their fish! Delicious but they were kind of small. I could've had another piece. The greens were delicious & I had shared. The macaroni and cheese was in fact baked & I wish I'd gotten some. The yams were very good but a tad to sweet FOR ME! Fried okra was a no, but it wasn't mines & I don't like okra anyways! They ran out of cornbread unfortunately. Tarter sauce was good. The atmosphere was nice. We sat right by the speaker & the music was nice old school. I'd certainly come back! Went here to watch the football game and I didn't have a pleasant time. My chicken was over cooked and the food was not that great need more flavor. They were out of alot of items such as beers, soda, okra. And the service was very slow. The atmosphere was decent is the only bright spot. read more

Final verdict. If you are out by Brice Rd you can stop in. I personally don't think the lunch menu is worth the trip from where we live. I will try dinner another day. The greens are perfect when you add hot sauce the perch is on point. Good crunch and flavor. Mac is average for a restaurant. Portion size is ok not the best. Service ok music isn't loud. We stopped at Peggy's on the way home from the airport and the food was amazing! My husband had the orange roughy, greens and yams. My daughter had pancakes. My son had chicken and pancakes. I had the chicken with french toast. I'm not sure what they cooked that french toast in, but baby when I tell you syrup was NOT needed. So good! To top it off, the staff was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was cold. Not just the one way glass covering the bottom part of the windows like an interrogation room in some crime flick but physically cold, the staff were all wearing coats in the dining room, or at least I think they were staff, my server seemed to be also expediting and cleaning tables so the role of the other staff was a bit of a mystery as was who was on staff, as there seemed to be little in the way of a uniform going on. The decor was interesting and giving off a bit of a night club vibe at noon. I was quite nervous about the experience when I ordered the Peggy Grilled Burger. The waitress informed me that it had blue cheese, however I am not entirely certain if that was to let me know that it existed when it was quite overpowered by the juicy onions or because some people find this cheese off putting and menu items are not well described on the lunch menu. I was quite impressed with the burger and the massive fries that came with it, which is the reason for the rating in total, if the food wasn't amazing I would be having a very different opinion. The service from the time you greeted at the door and then seated at our table every individual was happy to have us and very Hospital. OMG! What a great new restaurant here on the Eastside of Columbus/Reynoldsburg. They have only been open a week so they are still working on speed of service and their POS system. But staff was very friendly and courteous. There were some food items unavailable (boudin balls and salmon) but what we had was phenomenonal. Hubby had the fried orange roughy and I had Cajun shrimp and grits. We both had greens. Everything was so flavorful. Shawna our server was great! Definitely order the cornbread. My husband and I visited Peggy's Restaurant today. We will definitely come back. it was good. but I have to honestly say the very best part was our server. A very beautiful young lady named "Jahniah J" She was so so good. I will ask to be seated in her area again. She was very polite, beautiful smile, made eye contact the whole conversation. It was so good to see this excellent customer service in a young person. Thank you so much young lady. I got the perch dinner with greens and mac & cheese, my husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese. The ambiance is great and they just opened so their is costumer service needed to better serve their customers. No silverware at the table after asking three times. Low knowledge of menu from waitresses to getting wrong food by the cook. Probably should have waited to open and more training needed. Running out of food is a serious issue. The place was practically empty the night I dined there, yet when Iordered my meal, I waited for 40 minutes for them to even put my order in the system. You order whole wings and my wife ordered fish. When you taste the wings, they taste like they were cooked in the same oil as the fish?! So you have fishy tasting wings.
