One day I will plan out a visit to Napa and make an appointment at vineyards and truly create an experience.....until then I will continue to wake up on Saturday mornings while visiting friends or family in San Francisco or Sacramento and decide that we should head to the vineyards later that day. That's how I came across Peju and boy am I happy that I found them. While driving in I noted that they closed at 6 pm which was slightly later than others in the area. We decided to make it our last stop as a result. That was a mistake as I wish we spent more time there. The staff was great. We went inside had a tasting of their red/white blend (that I fell in love with) and decided to buy a bottle and sit outside to enjoy it. It was so serene. We grabbed a table, chatted and drank wine on a beautiful day. Wish I could tell you more about their other wines, but if there signature wine is any indication, I'm looking forward to my next visit. read more

Just went to Peju and were treated shabbily. There was no one to greet us when we were inquiring about a tasting. They were by no means busy and when we finally got the attention of one of the wine servers, we were told that it would be a 10 minutes wait for the next table. Within those 10 minutes a couple without a reservation, we're brought in ahead of us for a tasting. There was no acknowledgement from the staff that we would be a accommodated any time soon since they were expecting a large tasting reservation who were already late for their tasting. We stopped as the sign outside stated they closed at 6pm, it was 5:30. By the time we parked and took some pictures we walked into the tasting room at 5:40, we waited 5 minutes and some lady walked up to us and stated they were closed but we buy bottles, we were ready to buy some but isn't that the reason for tastings, not good customer service. The wines are very good, the property is beautiful and they have a good store! I've been here twice on different occasions and in all my wine tasting trips, this was perhaps one of the top five and it was mainly because of the wine host. They make the 'experience' and ours was phenomenal because of the wine host named Richard Cooksey. Do yourselves a favor, if you go here, either make an appointment with him or ask for him when you put your name in. He knows the wine very well and explains the details you can't read on the wine label, which I appreciate. I bought several bottles of wine and the 'cork pops' wine opener, which Richard will demo for you. I used it last night and I think it was the easiest to use once you get the hang of it. The wines I bought were the province (red and white blend), Syrah, cab, Zin and piccolo. I also joined the wine club since I only come to Napa a couple times a year and haven't seen Peju in a store or restaurant. Definitely go and have a wonderful experience! I will go here every visit to Napa and bring different folks to have the wine tasting with Richard. read more

Brought my family here that was visiting from the east coast. I have friends who recommend Peju. During our tasting, Paul was a bit rude because I didn't particularly like the Province red blend, it was too sweet for me. I tasted and I poured the wine into the bucket. Paul then says, in front of 8 people well since you don't like it, then I will pour at the other end of the bar. After that I was invisible. I am a local, and come to Napa a lot. I have never experienced anything like that and will never come back. read more

Beautiful grounds with great wine. My friends and I stopped by half an hour prior to closing time and they accommodated our group after a few minutes. There was a lot of confusion between the workers and we were left standing awkwardly for about ~10 minutes before being escorted to a tasting area upstairs. Our server did a good job attending to all of us and would recommend popular wines where needed. He wasn't very engaged but we don't hold it against him - we could have shown up earlier :). All the wines on the tasting menu were excellent and we all left with a bottle each. Looking forward to returning! read more

Peju is awesome. The best part is undoubtedly their wine, but the atmosphere of their tasting room is quite nice as well. Their tastings are more on the expensive side, you have to buy quite a bit of wine to get your tasting fee waved, luckily one of our group members signed up for their Indulgence membership and we got free tastings and then 20% off all the wine because we bought more than 12 bottles. We had Joey this time, and last time we had an older gentleman who did a rap about wine. It's been such a great experience going to Peju with this group of ladies twice and probably 3-4 other times. They have so many cool wine gadgets, and use all of them in their tasting room so you can see how they work and how cool they are. I would definitely recommend this place for a first time Napa trip or a medium/large group of tasters. I've been with 2, 3, 4, and 7 women before and we were accommodated well each time. read more

Peju is NOT DOG FRIENDLY. When I arrived at the winery, I was greeted with a sign saying "Please, No Pets" with an image of a dog crossed out. See photo. Giving a 1 star to get attention of the ones in charge and those who plan to visit Peju in the future. Was told that the wait would be 20 minutes, hoping for a quick tasting but ended up leaving after waiting 40 minutes. As I peered into the tasting room I found a fairly empty room with each "salesperson" dedicated to one group, with a total of 4 groups. There was no space for a group, like my company and I, to taste wine without needing someone to explain the wine every step of the way through- as that is what the menu card is for. Therefore, Peju's desire to tie sales people to groups is turning away prospective customers. Their unfriendly environment, inexperienced wait staff, and unorganized tasting space will cause the company to dwindle in this ever demanding, customer-satisfaction based industry. Summary: don't waste your time. If you want to try their wine grab a bottle at the store and go to V. Sattui or Farmstead to enjoy in a better environment. read more

I think most people know about Peju and how good their wines are. I still think they are very good. If you have a small party = Good service If you have a larger party = Be Careful, I think large parties tend to cause more trouble than necessary for Peju, lots of mental sanctions communicated through body language and tone. We did Napa with a party limo this time, first time ever, and were treated like garbage at Peju. When we excited our limo at Peju, our limo driver even said, "go in with small groups." I took this as a warning as large parties may be drunkenly annoying, loud, and overly obnoxious. I was right in some sense when we went into the front area and asked "How do we get started?" The front reception lady replied in a disinterested rude-what-are-you-doing-here-tone, "FOR WHAT?" I don't remember what she said but we went into the general tasting area where there were 0 people. There was an older gentleman that was on his POS system. He didn't acknowledge us. I think the vibe we got at that room was, "I won't help you, but if you want to buy something, I will gladly accept your money." When I said, "Can I buy....", then he got interested. Ah, we were already there, bought 3 bottles, and just drank it outside. He gave us the bottles, but did not give us any cups/glasses. I went to the front area and asked another lady if I could get some cups. I think she took it as glasses and proceeded to ask, "Where's your party, how many bottles do you have, etc." She was interested in knowing if we spent proper money so she could release glasses to us. She also wanted to vet us to see if we were an annoying large party. She escorted me to the the tasting area where we bought the bottles and she instructed to ask the friendly guy behind the bar to give us 6 glasses. Oh, earlier, when I mentioned we had 16 people, her body language shifted to a more suspicious one, like what are you doing here with so many people? Any way, the friendly guy gave us 6 glasses for 16 people, and I just said, if you have cheap plastic cups, we'll take those. It was my friend's birthday, I didn't want to ruin anything. I recommended to her that Peju was the best wine I've ever had, having bought so many cases over the years, I was wrong this time. I didn't notice a snobby you're-not-welcome attitude before, but this time, I noticed it ALL. I completely understand though, as a business owner who does over 10 million a year, I understand that there are certain stereotypes and people that you just don't want on your property, but damn, make sure first that we are "that type" before you drop that nasty body language and tone. I wonder if things would be different if I wore my presidential day-date rolex + a suit + came in with my wife + acted like how they believe proper people at a winery should act. I'm not going to come back and find out. I will gladly drink the remaining bottles of 50/50 that I have and invest my money into Caymus. You guys will remain a success, but I won't be contributing any more money to your winery nor will I recommend anyone to visit your location or buy your wines at restaurants. To Recap: I just wanted to buy 3-6 bottles of wine to treat my friends and have a good time. We weren't going to ruin your property by being loud, obnoxious, or ghetto. Cheers to 2015 yelpers and as a start to 2015 I wanted to write a first review that deserves a raise of the wine glass. Obviously one of the reasons I love being in Norcal is that Napa/Sonoma are less than an hour drive away. Who can possibly hate on a day/afternoon/night of drinking different types of wine while hearing a great story about how the winery started. First thing is first, in that this place does not require reservations so feel free to walk in when it suits your party. The property itself has a nice rustic feel to it but it is quite charming. The way the trees lean in on the drive way in to form a half arch is unique and just adds to the ambiance. The story behind it was even great on how they wanted to originally have both sides of the driveway have trees but they only had enough money to plant one side of it when the initial build was happening. The ways the fountains are placed throughout the grounds is gorgeous as well and then buildings including the tower are beautiful. The entrance door leads into an open room where there are items for purchase including olive oils, chocolates, etc. You simply go to the desk and ask to be set up on a tasting and they pull you into various groups. The tastings are $25 per flight that you decide to order which is waived if you purchase 2 bottles of vino. There is the tower area where they have a bar section set up in a beautiful room and an upstairs area where they have art displayed and a private room with a bar set up as well. I personally prefer the intimate upstairs area but both are solid set ups. So I have had a few hosts at this point and obviously your experience changes based upon how interactive the host is... both times were good but my latest visit was great. I wish I remembered her name but she did a great job telling the story of how the winery started, what the owners did to succeed including drawing the original Peju bottle labels which they still use, and explained each of the different types of wine. My parents were thrilled with the story and really enjoyed the genesis. We had multiple different types of vinos which ranged from the lighter end such as Sauv Blanc, provence, all the way to bolder flavors like Cab Sauv. I have been to multiple wineries in the area and can appreciate the fact that these guys show the wide variety of vinos that they produce vs just reds. This helps in bringing a large group as there will be many different preferences. Each of the vinos were crisp and owned up to what it was, in other words all were delicious. I am not a huge white or provence drinker but these vinos were made well to the point where I bought a few bottles of the provence. Of course we also bought a few bottles of the merlot as well as it was delicious. These guys flex well across various types of vino. What a great winery from every angle and one of the other things that I enjoy about Peju is that they have a defined amount they distribute so it is unlikely that you will find their vinos at the local bevmos making it pretty exclusive if you can provide it as a gift or at a dinner. Also the 2012 year is GREAT... given the drought that cali has faced. Droughts have done well for the wineries making them tastier as the grapes work harder... so definitely take advantage of the opportunity. Everything from the ambiance, the care exhibited by the staff, and the vinos themselves... this is a great winery and one that is always on my list whenever I am in the area. read more

The wine at Peju is stellar but the tasting experience can be a bit awkward depending on who you get as your "tour guide". Once you enter their beautiful space they greet you with a little wait saying that they will provide you with a tasting appointment in a moment. We were walked back to the furthest corner of their building to be greeted by this SAG actor who was introducing himself to us and talking about sports for the first 7 mins. We wanted to try out the wine so we waited patiently hoping that he would start pouring. Maybe I'm just used to a more "what would you like to taste" experience, but I felt as if we were at a show. He then began to rock out to the music playing in the background and it was all Van-Halen and Grateful Dead which is fine, but again... awkward at a winery. I'm not saying this is the only experience I've had at this winery but they've always been similar. Maybe it's just my luck. Anywho, the wine is good and they have plenty to offer. If it's not part of your tasting and they have a bottle open just ask and I'm sure they'll give you a taste. the Cab-franc... to die for! A tasting at Peju is nothing if not entertaining. I've had Peju wines at a few friends homes and I have been dying to come up here to check it out in person. Even saw a lil snippet story on them on that show 'In Wine Country'.. and while I was in no way thrilled to possibly have a winetender sing to me, I was thrilled to try their wines. When you walk in, they take your name like a restaurant and give you an idea when you'll be called for your tasting. We didn't understand what it all meant, but we put in our name and waited about 20 mins to be escorted to one of the many many bars in this place to our wine-tasting destination. We got the big dude in the blue shirt who seemed irritated that they sent him a group before he could clean up after the previous group. I know this because he bitched about it to the hostess chick and then to himself. Hey guess what man? I didn't come here to hear your gripes about work. More wine, less whine. Pour! And he did.. he finally got to pouring and I really appreciated that he told us if we wanted to veer off the menu and try something else, to just ask. I was able to try 2 whites and a zinfandel port. All their wines are pretty great. We walked away with 2 bottles and he waived the tasting fees. The way they set up the tastings leaves it pretty impersonal though.. it's as if the wine guy was on auto-pilot with a script, especially when he busted out into song. Let me tell you, I am SO uncomfortable with people singing right in front of my face that I cannot even tell you what he sang, as I went numb and waited till it was over. It was an experience I tell ya... and pretty fun for the most part. read more

Stay away from this seedy place. Don't say I didn't warn you. My friends and I went for a tasting. Their tasting included a flight of 4 wines. Correction: 4 crappy wines and extremely stingy pours. Our party of five was crammed in with a couple who are members and another couple. The tasting area was clearly able to accommodate only 7-8 max. But they made us all squeeze in - I actually got a "spot" behind the cash register without any counter space. When we were ready to pay and leave, that is when things got shady. The person who poured for us stated that it was $25 per taste but they would waive the tasting fee if we would buy 2 or more bottles per person. Since none of us in our group liked any of the wines, we said no thanks and were ready to pay. He then stated that it was $25 per taste. So, we paraphrased and said, "$25 for the flight, right?" We got confused when he said, NO. One in my group ask, "$25 per tasting or per glass?" He replied, "No. It's per glass. Also, I can give you 10% off if you buy a whole case of wine." We were in a dilemma of paying $100 per person for their stingy tasting or pay $54 per person to buy and split a case of crappy wine we didn't want. We were confused because tastings are usually a set price for a flight of wine selection. Yet this guys said the price is $25 per glass. That would mean $100 per person!??!? So I stepped out of the tasting room and called the front desk. The receptionist clarified and reconfirmed the price is $25 per person for the 4 wines in flight. I was pissed and so were my friends. This guys purposefully left us confused. Even when we tried to clarify, he tried to take advantage of us and purposefully mislead us. We paid our $25 per person fee and left. Don't come here if you don't want to be scammed with shotty pourers. read more

Whether or not you are a big wine connoisseur, it should not matter when you are visiting any winery. You're at the winery to learn new things about wines and about that particular one. However, at Peju, apparently it matters. I was sooooo disrespected at Peju, that I absolutely will shy everyone away from coming here. The grounds are beautiful, but the service is incredibly AWFUL. I had a server who was practically drunk... spitting all over the place, spilling the wines as he poured them, and being just plain rude to my group of girls (mind you we were so open to tasting and being very attentive)--maybe because we're asian??? I don't know. He seemed more interested in helping out a group of 4 Caucasians, don't mean to be discriminating... but I was quite offended. I am a fan of Roses... many wineries make them. I asked our server if Peju made any Roses... The response to my question was a rudely put "Roses are for people who do not know how to drink wine." =O WOW... did you really just diss me right in front of my face??!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I almost didn't want to pay for my wine tasting. But I sucked it up, finished my tastings, and we all got out of there vowing never to come back. read more

What an absolutely beautiful experience! The wonderful staff were so welcoming and warm, it made me feel like part of the family. The wines are lovely and the sculptures, fountains, koi ponds and stunning grounds are absolutely impeccable. We were even blessed to see Mrs Peju, planting some flowers with her sweet dog! If you are in search of a traditional fit the mold winery in a beautiful picturesque setting, then Peju is the place for you. Everything about this winery exudes snobbery devoid of the substance. The cost of the tasting exceeded other wineries in the area by twice the price. I brought guests from abroad here to get the feel of a small tasting room compared to the one at V. Sattui. My guests admitted that the feel of this winery is more consistent with their preconceived notions and what they had seen in the movies. Alas, they were disheartened by the poor quality of the wines. True to form with most California wineries the collection of red wines was unimpressive. The general impression is that the red wines were flat and lacked body. The tasting room is divided into 3 separate stations contained in 2 rooms. Our tasting occurred in the room with two stations. While the other station was manned by an energetic and engaging sommelier, our station was manned by a gentleman who clearly couldn't have cared less about the visitors that day, since he spent the entire tasting session speaking with his friends at one end of the bar. The grounds are exemplary and serene, but that doesn't translate to good wine. With a short list of wineries on your agenda to visit, skip this one. read more

Hmmm...what to say about a winery with a red carpet and waiting line. There are three things i don't do. Those are: Pay on a date Wear flat shoes Wait in line Three simple rules for living life to the fullest. Making a girl pay on a date is tacky, wearing flat shoes makes you look fatter. Waiting in line means you're a loser. Ugh! Alas, on a recent visit to Peju (they're open late, to their benefit), Anna and I and our man friends were faced with the laborious task of waiting in line with the little people at Peju. I'm pretty sure every Under-35 visitor to Napa that day was among us in their tiny waiting room. Never one to accept quick defeat, I pushed up my push-up bra and forged ahead, hand in hand with my trusty sidekick. Even my boobs and Anna's hair couldn't get us past their wise tasting room staff, who instructed us to go back and...get in line. Since I'd rather walk on hot coals than wait in line, we decided to forego Peju. But they did bring out chocolate-covered strawberries for us and I've been there before (sans line) and the wine is decent, tasting room staff are warm and polite. They're also open later than others and if I were a true alcoholic, this is where I would go (and wait...and wait...) for that one last drop before driving home. read more

I was a Peju club member for about a year. Truth be told I would probably still be a member if they knew anything about customer service. Provence and 50/50 are two of my favorite wines. Most wineries treat their members a little special whisking them away to reserved members only areas while they wait for a tasting. On more than one occasion we've been made to wait quite a bit before being brought in for a tasting. Don't claim on your website you don't need to make a reservation if you're going to make members wait in a tight entry area to pick up your shipment and do a tasting. My wife had a blouse ruined when during a tasting the person pouring accidentally splashed her. There was no sense of urgency on their part to get something to clean it up. After our last poor experience I emailed them to cancel our membership and express my disappointment. I was assured someone would call me to discuss the matter further. This was their opportunity to show their concern for my business and win me back. Sadly they completely dropped the ball in this regard as I never received a call or further email. They most likely could have held me on as a member but their lack of showing any appreciation for a customer lost me for good. Sadly Peju is no longer on my list of stops when I bring friends through the area. read more

Peju (Peh-ju) was P-U (pee-yu)!! In mine and hubby's opinion their wine was just a notch above V.Sattui. Definitely not a Cabernet winery (although we were told that that's what they were known for). Nothing we tried we liked!! Our wine steward was funny but not very knowledgeable (although he tried to be). Needless to say, this winery will be one we do not return to. So why 2 stars?? First, they're open till 6 pm and second they're entertaining wine stewards. Tasting fee is cheap ($10 per tasting) and that's about it!! read more

Where do I start. Before I knew much about wine or wine country, I had a stop here during a bachelorette party (bad sign number 1), but I remember them pouring a really good rose that year and I had fond memories of it. Flash forward to a couple weeks ago. What a mess. I was there with a wine club member and another friend - we had to stand around the "shopping" areas around the tasting room for over an hour while waiting to be called for a spot to taste. I saw an older lady waiting with her family literally about to collapse. All the rooms seemed to be in charge of some young guy (like really young) who was obviously stoned and in over his head. We finally get called and the guy doing our pours had the audacity to say, in most wineries you have to Elbow your way in for a drink, here we stay organized. Then he went on to do some juggling act I guess was for the tourists. If I wasn't with a wine club member who needed a pickup on our last stop of the day, obviously we would have left. What a horrible experience. Save yourself the time and money and go taste at smaller places around dry creek, Calistoga, anywhere.... Or if you want the fancy wine experience, try another spot along this strip. read more

The Napa Rappa made my day! Peju was the highlight of my recent wine tasting adventure in the Napa Valley. I loved every wine I tried--even the whites, which I usually hate. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and play host to a variety of sculpture art. The architecture of the building is awe-inspiring and church-like. Even without our pourer, Alan aka The Napa Rappa, I would have had a wonderful time here. Alan's wine raps were both educational and hilarious!
