Having frequented this family business for over 15+ years now. I don't even live in Mt. Pleasant anymore but have to stop by every time I return home. I have no idea what these other reviews are on about. If you are craving classic Chinese takeout, this is the place. My favorites include: Hot & Sour soup, Pork Lo-mein, General Tao's Chicken Combo (includes rice and eggroll). Great portions with a few days leftovers. 06-10-2021 Had a great experience here. I'm seeing some reviews have not. I phoned in my order and was given 10 minutes to pickup. No time at all. Perfect! I ordered their Wonton soup and Beef with Broccoli. It was waiting for me when I arrived. The soup and Beef with Broccoli were really excellent! The broccoli was done so perfectly, that nice crunch and still very hot but not over done or too soft. The beef was tender and full of flavor. The wontons looked house made and we're very soft and flavorful. I would give them 6 stars if I could. The woman at the counter was very pleasant and sweet. I have every reason to come back here. Pretty mediocre American Chinese takeout. Ordered sweet and sour chicken, Mushu pork, beef and broccoli and mei fun noodles. The sweet and sour and mei fun met expectations--solid but not extraordinary. Unfortunately, the other two dishes were so oily and salty, they were borderline inedible. The mushu was particularly offensive, with so much sauce (laden with MSG?), spreading hoisin on the pancakes seemed like overkill. This restaurant also skimps on protein--maybe 6-8 puny shrimp in the mei fun. In addition, it appears I was overcharged by receiving pint portions when I had ordered quart sizes. In a town full of uninspiring Chinese take out places, this one does nothing to distinguish itself. (2 stars). read more

This place has gone downhill. Barely any protein in there dishes. Fried rice is hard. Food in general is just greasy and salty. Their prices have gone way up and the quality has gone way down. I've asked for extra protein many time but it's still the same. Don't know if there are newer owners but won't go here anymore after going for several years. read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant, and we ordered a quart of Wonton Soup, Hunan Beef Combo and a Pork Chow Mein Combo. And when we went home to eat it but ...... Wonton Soup has 9 Wonton instead of 10, Hunan Beef supposed to be spicy but it taste like a Mongolian Beef and finally the food that I craved a 'Pork Chow Mein' was nothing but rice and ONIONS !!!!!!!!!!! It seems like they put two onions on the food I ordered and I that know Chow Mein is supposed to be a F***ING NOOOOOOOOODLE !!!!!!!!!!!!! On 7/16 our family dined in your restaurant for the first time. The lobby area is VERY dirty. The tables were sticky, the floors were not clean, the bottom of the tables are rust and dirt. The bathroom door handle is black with grime, the bathroom is also dirty. The health department needs to be called for a full inspection of this property. read more

We ordered from this Chinese restaurant once before, and the food was pretty good. Today? Refried, overcooked lunch leftovers were sold to us...and I won't go back. Sweet & Sour Chicken is my son's favorite and it's pretty difficult to mess up...but the cook was lazy and didn't make fresh food. He dropped in some prefried chicken for a second dose of oil and that's what we got. So crispy that it was tough to bite thru. Nasty stuff. Wife had wonton soup which was blah...not good. We ordered our food online & honestly everything was tasty. My issue was with the portion sizes. There are no pint/ quart choices on the online menu. We order 3 entrees, & only one came in the normal rectangular plastic container- the mei fun. The other 2 entrees came in little round single serving size containers. The white rice came in the smallest Chinese cardboard container I've ever seen; it looked like Barbie's serving size and was really humorous. I felt duped and won't go back. read more

I grab Chinese to go from time to time because I live nearby. The food is decent and I have no real complaints. Its pretty cheap. The soups are one of favorite things to get. Wonton Soup or Hot and Sour are only a few bucks for a huge container. The house rice can be a bit pricey but its worth it for all the extra goodies in there. They do a damn good job with the boneless spare ribs too. Fast, cheap, and tasty. Great for when you don't feel like making something at home. read more

Oh my God, This place completely sucks! I have tried it three times because it is convenient. Every time they got the order wrong. And I keep making the mistake of driving home before I check the order. When I called him and told him that the order was wrong (from not giving me the order of eggrolls that I paid for, or not giving me the correct order that I placed and paid for) their answer is always a convenient well if you come back we will correct the order. That is not a good response because they should not have gotten the order wrong (3 times) every time I have been there!!! The food is not expensive, but the quality of food reflects the price. I thought it was an alternative to fast food such as McDonald's or Chick-fil-A. But at least fast food restaurants get your order right. I will not be returning and suggest you do not go! read more

Pretty much right in line with the other reviews posted before mine. Unfortunately, Peking Gourmet is average at best. It is unfortunate because this is a local, family-run business. It is also the closest Chinese food restaurant to where I live. I ordered a handful of different menu items for dinner one night for my family and some neighbors. I'm a fan of fried dumplings so I ordered some. They were terrible. No joke, they looked like they were leftover and just re-heated. This was the same for the egg rolls: tough, chewy and soft wrapper that had seemed to just have been re-heated. The rice was okay and seemed to be fresh. The best item we had was one of their Szechuan specials: beef with garlic sauce. Although there was just a little beef in it, the vegetables were crisp and the garlic sauce was just the right amount of spicy for me. The hot and sour soup was semi gelatinous with big pieces of mushrooms floating in it. I wouldn't recommend Peking Gourmet and look for other Chinese food options in Mt. Pleasant. PS: I couldn't find that they have a website when searching for an online menu. We get Chinese food often and it's hard for me to tell the difference in a lot of the places, but... this was awful!! I got the orange chicken - soggy and no flavor - hot and sour soup was bland, egg rolls were ok, chicken and broccoli was bland, no flavor. Lo mein was ok as well. Total bill was $50 We threw out 85% of the order. Never done that before. Will never go back. Golden Bowl in Brickyard is much better but it's a longer drive for us. I have now been here a few times and can say it's a bit below par for your Chinese take out restaurants. The restaurant is clean, which is a good start. The food is average at best, the flavor and spice just isn't there. My kids usually eat chicken fried rice by the pound and they don't eat it from here. I wanted dumplings and got go.e to find them a burned mess, so disappointed. The soup was good, but that in itself won't bring me back again any time soon. There are plenty of Chinese take outs around, unfortunately this one's the closest to home for me, so I will be driving a few extra minutes to other places. read more

The food here is horrible. Ordered fried shrimp and house fried rice, all horrible. My wife hated her food as well. My kids ate the sesame chicken and noodles which they said tasted ok. After we ate, the whole house that day and the next day was on the toilet, multiple times through out the couple of days. Stomach bubbling so bad it woke me up a couple hours earlier than my alarm.
