I have never written a Yelp review in my entire life, but this place genuinely left a permanent scar on me. My boyfriend and I both ended up with food poisoning after eating here, and honestly I'm not surprised considering how disgusting the food was. The rice was completely flavorless, our egg rolls had things in them that definitely were NOT supposed to be there, and to top it all off, I found a dead baby spider floating in my sake. A literal spider. To be fair, they did refund the hibachi, but I still cannot believe we paid almost $40 to eat this food. Figured we would try this place out but it seems to be a place that is focused on carry out orders. We walked in and asked if we could eat at the bar and got a pseudo sure if you like and then not another word from anyone. We sat and watched one guy make a drink , another two work on pickup orders and we finally just got up and left. Nice, clean spot in a shopping center without many options. We found the service to be friendly and kind. Chicken wings were so-so. The lunch box was really yummy, a ton of food, and came with your choice of soup and an egg roll. The steak was cooked well and melt in your mouth. Our expectations were not high - we are not from the area and we were tired from a long day of travel, so we just chose this place because it was close - after checking out Yelp reviews, of course. The sushi was top notch with good amounts of fish in each roll. The wine was reasonable and a good pour for the money. But, Jerry really made the visit memorable. Yes, he's a great server, but he took the time to give us suggestions when we told him we would only be in town for a couple of days. He sent us to see the Angel Oak, and that was one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing, so thank you again, Jerry. We will definitely be back! read more

No frills sushi restaurant. The sushi was good. Not the best but definitely not the worst. The service is the main reason I give this establishment 3 stars. You don't get much attention but the food comes quickly. I will say they have the best ginger salad dressing I have found. read more

We love this place. Always ordering sushi to go, but last night we decided to dine in. Got my free small house sake based on my "Yelp Coupon". Started with an appetizer of their "Sweet Potato Roll" with brown rice. We started liking these for an appetizer a while back. Such a generous order here compared to other places. Yum. Then we shared the King Pao Chicken with brown rice. Amazing. I like mine a bit spicier, so asked for chili oil and siracha. Add some Japanese beer and you've got a winning combo. We decided to grab dinner because it was next door to a Total Wine Store and I was in town for a friends birthday and wanted to get some wine. I had shrimp fried rice and a sushi roll. Although we tend to gravitate toward pizza, fries, and burgers, my family has its limits when it comes to total grease consumption per week. Friendly, efficient, and overall fantastic. The food was incredible. Our favorites from the meal included the sushi, the gyoza, and The General Tso's chicken. All of the soups were delicious, although I particularly enjoyed the wonton soup (which tasted like no other wonton soup I've ever eaten). We would not recommend the fresh spring roll, but that was the only subpar part of the meal. The entire interior was clean with lots of seating. 5/14/20 I'm thrilled that you've reopened! Tokyo Bistro serves the food that we'd been craving while sheltering in place during the Pandemic. Thank you for everything you do. It's no wonder, you're a Yelp Community favorite. Original review ... embarrassed to admit that it's taken us 7 years to check out this great neighborhood spot for sushi, Japanese and Asian Fusion dishes. The sushi is so fresh tasting (check out the Happy Hour pricing) and the entree portions are huge and also well priced ... they're served with a choice of soup and white rice. There's an adequate selection of beer and 'great pour' house wines for $4.00 during Happy Hour. If there was a downside, we both would have liked a little more spice in our hot and sour soups and basil entrees. When mentioning this to our friendly server, Christina, she quickly brought out little bowls of Sriracha and told us how to order next time. We look forward to our next visit ... the Seafood Udon Soup is calling my name. read more

Fantastic take away option right now. Dining room is currently closed but take away can be ordered on line and paid for at pick up. The Teriyaki Lunch box comes with choice of soup or salad and a plentiful box of hot fresh food. For $12.95 this was more than I could eat. My food was also very delicious BUT this time I came made me reconsider returning due to the owners SCREAMING in the middle of the restaurant. After Scoring some major post holiday deals at Nordstrom Rack and J. Crew, we were feeling indulgent here today. I will also preface this by telling you their sushi lunch specials (to-go and eating in) got me through the better part of my early 20's. Never a bad roll or experience, and fairly priced. We split a sushi lunch 2 maki special with ginger salad to begin with and hand salmon avo and spicy crab avo. Fresh rolls delivered to the table before we could finish the salads! THEN we dug into the chicken pad Thai- it was decent but you could skip this here. Couldn't quite put our finger on what it was- it was just a bit off. Still enjoyed and finished it though :) The surprise was how flavorful the Beef Lo Mein was. Tender and flavorful beef, veggies, and long silky noodles with barely a bite to them. True restaurant quality, not take out. The service is consistently friendly and pleasant, no matter the volume they are tackling. A go-to place of mine that's buried in a large shopping center (between a big box pet store and furniture store), which delivers consistently solid teriyaki and hibachi. Meat portions are generous, veggies are fresh, and the sauce-to-food ratio is right on the money. Sushi rolls are also solid and you won't find another place in Mount Pleasant that offers three for $16 as part of their lunch deal. Talking about lunch deals, their bento-style combo plates are both filling and reasonably priced. The interior is cozy, and plays surprisingly decent eating music (early 2000s folk, indie and alternative rock). The staff is consistently friendly, making this a winner in a town with many similar options. 4 stars. read more

5 starts for this place, hands down. This is the place my friends and family in Mount Pleasant repeatedly use for any Asian-fusion food. Brace yourself: this review will likely be long. There's myriad of food choices including appetizers (spring and egg rolls, crab rangoons) rice and noodle dishes, hibachi entrees, sushi and sashimi, etc. For lunch, you can have a bento box. I've tried several food items from each category and can honestly say you can't go wrong. I choose this place because when you order chicken, they serve you good quality, white meat chicken. I personally am turned off by odd, dark meat left-over-like pieces that is standard at other competing Asian spots nearby. My family chooses this place because they don't use MSG. My mom is very sensitive to MSG flavoring, ultimately receiving horrible migraines after eating a meal that contains it. Because of that, I didn't grow up eating any Japanese or Chinese food. That was until we found this place. Now, they order from here at least once a month, usually more. I've both eaten out and dined in. The portions are so large, we typically order two meals (e.g., one hibachi meat like sesame chicken with fried rice and one hibachi vegetables entree) and share amongst 3 people, usually still having leftovers. It is easy to order for take-out by doing so online or by calling them on the phone. Dining in is also nice. The ambiance is inviting, though the restaurant is often quiet. As other's have mentioned, it is in a shopping mall. It used to be next door to the old Dollar Tree and the pet store. Don't let the exterior fool you, however. It's damn good. While writing this review, I texted two people (non-Yelpers) to gather their opinions of Tokyo Bistro. I asked my friend (woman, 28 years old), "What do you think of Tokyo Bistro?" She replied, "Tokyo bistro is my absolute favorite sushi place in all of Mount Pleasant." She's right: her family of 8 orders large piles of sushi from there every Sunday for their self-proclaimed Sushi Sunday. I also texted my mom (65+), "Why do you like Tokyo Bistro?" I sat at the bar for lunch and met Andrew, the owner. He's very nice and accommodating. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. Lots of takeout orders, so they must be doing something right! I was looking over their menu for rolls and noticed quite a few were rolled using soy paper. I decided on one of their Shem Creek rolls wrapped in soy paper. It was delicious! The Miso soup is always a good appetizer too. From this initial visit, I can tell I'll be back here many more times. It's a bit deceiving in this strip mall with construction going on.
