What restaurant doesn't take reservations on a Saturday for a party of 4, minimum of 6 so you are taking a chance going for an early 6:15 dinner and I was told an hour and a half wait (I think, too loud to really hear). Then there is no real place to wait, bar is packed with others waiting. Now the positives. Finally seated the service was very good and more importantly the food was the upscale Chinese advertised. Two of us ordered the Whole Crispy Red Snapper which our server suggested ordering just one and sharing. We ordered two but it was huge. Duck Lo Mein was also plentiful and the Honey Miso Salmon was a dish not found in most other Chinese restaurants. Been coming to Peking Pavilion for years. They never disappoint. The service and atmosphere always make me feel like a queen. They have definitely perfected the perfect balance for American Chinese food and fine dining. The portions are huge, the service is quick and the food tastes GREAT! We had so many leftovers and for all of this food it was less than $90 a person. In the future, I would have gone with a larger group to split the large portions better. The presentation was excellent, and food was pretty good. I was really impressed with their skirt steak. Super tender with a nice smokiness. The strong beans were also excellent and had a great hot chili oil flavor. The chow fun noodles were also really good and it also had a nice smoky flavor. Whole red snapper was okay. It was nice that they deboned the pieces from the fish, but they left a lot more meat on the fish than I would have. This place was recommended as a upscale location however I'm disappointed. The noise you come into was what caught my attention. Nothing relaxing about the atmosphere. I would recommend they would invest in adding some noise absorbing walls to reduce the noise a bit. I had to talk super loud to get my guest to hear me. Food was good but not over the top. We went to Peking Pavilion in Manalapan after reading so many glowing reviews and went in with high expectations. While the service truly lived up to the hype...prompt, friendly, and very attentive...the food itself fell well short for us. Most of the dishes we ordered leaned heavily toward fried, greasy, and overly sweet. We tried the Grand Marnier Prawns, Sesame Chicken, and Mu Shu Chicken, and found them all fairly one-note and unmemorable. Perhaps this is simply the style of Cantonese cuisine they're known for, or maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but nothing really stood out or made us want to return. That said, it's easy to see why locals enjoy the place: generous portions, polished service, and a comfortable, familiar feel. Still, if you're looking for lighter, more balanced flavors or something a bit more refined, this may not be your spot. Given the food and the fact that they don't accept reservations for parties of five or fewer, this was a one-and-done for us. We went on a Saturday night so we went early approximately 4:30 because we know how long the wait time can be. I have been waiting for over two years to give this place a try. Upon entering the host encouraged us to sit on the second floor because it's quieter. I don't know if it's because we have two children but whatever you do. Do not go upstairs. It has low ceilings, the tables are very close together and it's hot up there. Not a pleasurable dining venue. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food was outstanding. I hadn't visited in a while and was surprised by so many reviews saying the food had no flavor. I went with a party of six and, unfortunately, found the assessments to be true. We spent $400 on dinner for six and EVERYTHING was virtually tasteless. The dishes LOOKED great. They just were incredibly bland and uninteresting. The hot and sour soup was neither hot, nor sour. It was just... meh. We ended up asking for hot pepper oil and vinegar to add to everything to try to bring up any taste at all. We all ordered different appetizers and entrees. We have been going to peking Pavillion for years. Food is always great, service as well. The other night we were a party of 5, the bill was not cheap, but np, but when we finished and asked for coffee and dessert, the waitress said the machines were off and they were unable to accommodate us for espresso, cappuccino, etc. That is a real letdown after an entire meal, and not diner prices, and unable to have coffee. I've heard a lot of hype! Unfortunately my experience was just okay. I love Mongolian beef, but their take on it was not great. It wasn't sweet and flavorful like this dish usually is. In fact, there was hardly any flavor at all and soy sauce was needed. The meat was also very chewy and felt low quality and the rice was a bit hard and not fluffy. The filet mignon egg roll was delicious! Itf's pretty large and I'd suggest sharing one for two people. There's only a very small amount of filet inside, but the roll is also only $7. They have a full bar and offer cocktails, wine and beer. My aperol spritz was verrrryyy heavy on the ice, there were probably like three sips of drink in my glass. Love love love this restaurant. The food in Peking Pavilion is so creative and delicious. Six of my closest friends joined me to have fun and enjoy a delicious meal. We succeeded. We shared the pork dumpling appetizers and the consensus was thumbs up. We then shared moo shu pork (yum), pavillion skirt steak over ginger lo mein group fav, basil chicken we all loved, jumbo shrimp in lobster sauce (not so much), and eggplant with homemade garlic sauce (yummy)! Plenty of food for all. We were given a large round table which was quite comfortable so we could all converse comfortably. The service was excellent as well. One of the replacements was also undrinkable and left on the table. Never asked whether a second round was wanted for those who had beer. Beef chow fun, chicken imperile(tso) was fabulous. We did add a little salt to the Chow fun. All chicken dishes are made with Bell & Evan's organic chicken, and the taste is incredible.Restaurant is spotless, as are the bathrooms. Cocktails are delicious and strong. This fancy looking restaurant is for people that never had real authentic Chinese food. Don't be fooled by the valet parking and bougie chic interior. This is glorified Americanized Chinese dishes served up bland with a lack of creativity. We sat outside and service was decent throughout the meal. The $7 filet mignon egg roll was a basic big greasy egg roll with some minced meat inside, mostly cabbage. The steamed pork dumplings were falling apart and doughy. The cold spicy sesame noodles weren't very spicy or had any assertive sesame taste. The Velvet shrimp was standard stir fry with 6 shrimp and mostly vegetables. The half Peking duck was mediocre, and about double the price you pay in Chinatown in Philly or NYC. There were nowhere near enough cucumbers and lemongrass. If you have Peking duck on your menu, do it the right way and serve it with steamed bao buns instead of the bland moo shu pancakes. The lychee martini wasn't mixed well and barely had any lychee flavor. Overall, if you never had REAL Chinese food, you'll probably think this place is good especially if you're into pork fried rice and general TSO chicken. We just flew into town and didn't want to miss one of our favorite dinner spots in town. This was a Wednesday evening at 6:30 and luckily we got a table near the bar - the only one available at that time. It's still a goldmine. The drinks are outstanding. We longed for our lychee martinis. They were as good as ever. We had the filet Mignon eggroll which was delicious. Then we each ordered our entrees. Paul had the short ribs over Hawaiian fried rice. I had the double pork chops with spinach and miso sauce. The miso sauce was thick and way too salty. I couldn't eat it. But the pork chop was perfect. It took a very long time to get our entrees but we weren't starving and we were watching TV. It was nice to have a variety of shows for our viewing pleasure. The food portions were generous. Unfortunately I left the doggy bag at the table and couldn't go back to get it. Lastly, the venue had a recent update. I noticed new light fixtures, updated modern bathroom and bar area as well as new Chinese motif screens by entry and some wallpaper. My personal opinion was it was overdone. I appreciate a more classy simple decor. This was glitzy and way too much going on. But the bar scene is always fun and as long as the food and drinks are good , the patrons will be happy and continue to come.
