Ordered honey chicken and orange chicken. The chicken was just the same chicken as the fried for sweet and sour. they only poured honey over it and an orange glaze type. It was not cooked into it. Wife ordered plain lo mein which is normally lo mein with a sauce just no vegetables or meat. No we got plain as in PLAIN no flavor what so ever. Worse Chinese food experience ever. read more

I have been eating at this resto for almost 35 years. Unfortunately, when Peter and his family sold the restaurant, it has never been the same. The quality of the food is mediocre, at best, the decor is run down. The food is so sugary sweet and floats in pools of grease! They are completely inflexible about substitutions and nickel and dime you to death. $.25 charge for each little 1 oz side of sweet sour sauce is ridiculous! .99 delivery charge? Seriously? Peking continues to satisfy! I just got back from a long road trip and didn't feel like cooking. Delivery was just what I needed. I always get the same thing - creature of habit - but tried the veggie fried rice tonight. It was very tasty. As always there's plenty for leftovers tomorrow too. The lady over the phone was polite and efficient. The driver was very nice and much earlier than the 45 min window they gave me. I will continue to order from Peking. Very good. read more

A kind of institution--it predates the road work that has placed it in an odd place if you are coming from downtown (but very easy from Epps Bridge). I try to stop here once a year when I'm visiting my folks for the lunch buffet. The large buffet (four steam tables worth) is only $7-ish and that includes a drink. Nothing mind-blowing but all competently done and regularly restocked throughout lunch. The one real standout is the hot and sour soup--something that may be easily overlooked on the buffet. Green beans are also quite good. I think I've seen the same waiters for three years in a row. The owning family seems pretty nice. read more

The food was meh...imo if your won ton is lacking that's a sure sign I wont try anything again. The lo mein was also lacking ..but the main, larger problem was the person who took my order via phone was rude, I attributed it to being busy...but when I got there they were dead, and the guy who rang me up was still a jerk. read more

I feel bad giving a bad review, especially during covid but I'm hoping that these reviews encourage them to be better! The staff was nice, I ordered over the phone for takeout. I tipped really well as I was really thankful for the takeout but once I got home... the food was inedible. I ordered spring rolls and orange chicken. First, the spring rolls were cold (I live 5 minutes away). Second, I know orange chicken is not an authentic dish but who serves it with canned peas and carrots and *slathered* in maraschino cherries?? There were so many cherries that the whole dish tasted like cherries and the rice was red. And the "orange" part was just sliced oranges between slices of a fried chicken breast. The sauce was flavorless. It was the weirdest dish I have ever seen--I ate like two bites and just tossed the rest. I'm sure other dishes are great, but I won't be going back... read more

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out because we would always drive by it but had never eaten there. The inside was decorated with balloons for valentine's day and it was really cute. The food we ordered arrived pretty quickly and was pretty good. However, while we were eating a bunch of people came and sat at the table that was behind/next to us. A bunch of people that looked (for lack of better words), a little strung out. After they had been seated for a few minutes, it was clear that there was some kind of intervention happening. They were speaking very loud and one girl was almost yelling. It was to the point where I couldn't hear my boyfriend speaking and everyone else in the surrounding tables got up and left. We tried to stay even though the conversation at the neighboring table was growing increasingly heated/loud. We ended up having to box up our food and leave even though we hadn't been there for that long. Other than that, the restaurant was nice, the service and the food was good. I am a little hesitant to return after this but I probably will in the future. read more

We were treated very rudely by the manager. He came and told us that we had 10 minutes to finish our food and get out of there. He told us that they closed at 9 and that people were suppose to be out of there by 9 but our food didn't arrive until almost 9. We arrived at 8:15. They turned out the lights, tvs and music before 9 and when we asked if they could leave the music on they rudely said NO. It ruined our whole meal and gave us anxiety... we had to pack the food up and take it with us even though we came to dine in. Very disappointing! The food wasn't as good as it used to be either so that's a double whammy. We were treated like criminals and I really didn't think that we should have to pay but of course he was still open for taking our money!! He said that he didn't care if we came back or not. We went here the other night after working late on renovating our townhouse in preparation for the new school year, we showed up 15 mins til closing and they graciously welcomed us and gave us excellent and quick service. Awful and pricey food with awful service describe our experience at this place. First of all, this is not a buffet in the evenings, only at lunch. There were a number of people who came in and left when they discovered this. I wish we had joined them. Service was slow and inattentive. This might be more tolerable in a buffet situation but for a restaurant where most dishes are in the $15 range, it isn't acceptable. They charge extra for fried rice, like many do, but what they bring you really isn't fried. It's their steamed rice mixed with a few frozen peas and carrots and egg bits that had obviously been sitting around bit. We sent it back and exchanged it for steamed rice. The waitress wanted to argue about it as well, which was annoying. The sesame chicken was very overcooked and lacking seasoning. I suspect it was left over from the lunch buffet and rewarmed in a microwave. The braised hot chicken was also badly overcooked, nearly to the point of being inedible. Mushu beef was skimpy on the beef but piled high with questionable smelling bean sprouts. All in all, it was terrible dining experience. read more

We were in the mood for a Chinese buffet but didn't want to go to one of the mass Asian buffets. Since this place was branded as so Chinese from the outside we gave it a try. Turns out it was just the same as going to one of those other places only the selection was more limited. The staff were very nice and it was reasonably clean. I just expected more from Peking. The price is good but it was just average in terms of food selections. It was a bonus that drinks are included in the price and as I said - the staff were all very helpful and accommodating. There was sushi, chicken wings, egg drop soup - and all the basics you would expect but not a lot more. Its not a bad place on a Sunday afternoon but don't expect anything special. read more

Peking is a huge restaurant, which clearly has seen better days. It is dark and delipitated inside, the servers are fairly rude, and the food was absolutely terrible. I cannot believe that anyone can insider this acceptable, let alone good Chinese food (or they might have had a different chef). This place makes Panda Express look gourmet! read more

This place is BOMB. Yes, I said BOMB. It is a little bit on the pricier side for Chinese food but the portion they give you can last you 2 days at least! Lunch, Dinner, Lunch again! It is a bit hard to get to since there's a median and you have to get on Epps bridge and do a Uturn but I would gladly do it for the food. Hmm, I'm thinking Lindsay may be being a wee bit harsh in her review. I had the Five Ingredient Beef (I think that's what it was called) which was sort of like Kung Pao with a bunch of veggies and no peanuts. The rice was so-so (not very sticky), but the dish itself was fine (nicely spicy, and it came on a GIANT platter, so large that you will always have left-overs). The hot tea was passable as well. It wasn't the best Chinese food on earth or anything, but thus far, I haven't found any really good Chinese food in Athens. So, for now, A-OK. I'd give it 2.5 stars if such a thing existed. read more

Family and I went for lunch buffet. All the fried foods were extremely overcooked as if they were redipped in the grease. The ragoons were even fried in the inside. The other foods such as sweet not sour chicken salt not pepper shrimp and Mongolian beef was good. The egg drop is always inconsistent with the flavor and salt content. I grew up going to this restaurant my whole life. When I was younger this place seemed clean and delicious. Oh how times change. The cleanliness of this place has taken a turn for the worst I'm afraid. All culminating in my last meal from Peking. I brought home a dinner for 3 for my family. We get into it and begin to devour the food, and about half way through my Mongolian Beef I look down to see half a roach's dead body blended in nicely with my beef. I immediately went to the bathroom to throw up, god I hope I hadn't eaten the other half. I get sick just thinking about it now. Needless to say we will not be returning. Jumping on board with the "Great pot stickers" crowd... they did NOT disappoint and the hot and sour soup was Awesome too; hot and tasty. On another note; my hot tea was served luke-warm and so was my rice. Both were cool/cold about two minutes into the meal and though the General Tsu's chicken was prepared hot and fresh and delicious, it did not pair well with cold rice. Overall service was good, but there were only two or three customers when I visited today. Good atmosphere; good food too. Would've been great had it all been served up to temp. My mom came into town for a visit and we always have Chinese food. Having decided to try something new, we ordered from Peking Dinner. Never. Again. Both of our meals included soggy, tough chicken and overly-thin sauce. Their one saving grace was their fried rice; it was excellent. Unfortunately, my mother and I did not pay almost $50 for fried rice. Overall, a disappointment. Now we're both miserable with stomach aches. Thanks for ruining our night Peking. I'm a college student and this place has become my go to place for when I want chinese food. They've got the standard americanized chinese selections, which from the selections i've tried are preferable over other chinese restaurants in the area. Also, it's the only chinese restaurant in the area I know of that has a real, honest to god authentic Chinese menu. Quite surprising to be able to order native dishes that you'd expect to only be able to find at chinatown or chinese restaurants that cater primarily to chinese people. All of the selections from here have been great, and compares very well to other "native" chinese restaurants ive tried. read more

This is the ONLY location of Peking you should be going to. The East Side location used to be really great, but not so much in the last five years. Now, this is the only one worth frequenting. Peking is my Athens staple. If I am in town and don't go to Peking, it doesn't feel like I've eaten well. I love so many of their dishes, it is easy to go for the menu, or the lunch buffet. Sizzling Rice Soup is a MUST if you are ordering from the menu. So is their Sweet and Sour chicken. I am also a big fan of the Snow White Chicken and Peking Shrimp as well. Their egg rolls are almost always freshly cooked and delicious. BIG TIP HERE: Everyone does NOT need to order their own dish, nor do you need to order the "Dinner For a Group" offerings on the menu. Each dish will easily feed two people with the rice that accompanies it. When we have four people we get two dishes and soup and very often end up with leftovers. Which are still delicious but if six people order six dishes, that is a LOT of food. Just a word of caution. read more

My favorite Chinese food place by far! I compare every other Chinese food place to Peking... And eat here almost every time I come home to Athens! I always get their pot stickers, sizzling rice soup and the the Peking fried rice... Plus a meat meal... Obviously I split this with family, but there is always leftovers...Which are also amazing.... I feel that this place is a must for Athens.... Even if you have to drive to east side to get it!!! read more
