Great little independent theater in a cute little town! I saw "Anora" here yesterday (highly recommended BTW) in the smaller theater, which has ~12 seats and all of the chairs are huge, super comfy private theater-style seats. They show smaller, Indie films in this room usually. About as close to a private screening as you can get. There's also a much bigger, more conventional theater which shows blockbuster movies that most go to see. I love going to the movies - it's something I greatly missed during the height of the COVID lockdowns, and I usually seek out independent art houses to discover under the radar films to see. While my go-tos in Westchester are Alamo Drafthouse and Jacob Burns Film Center, the Pelham Picture House is a place that is deep in the archives of my mind, having been there a few times when I was younger. I was off the other day and figured I would catch a movie, and since they were playing one I was meaning to see, I made my way over. Pelham Picture House is located in the main commercial hub of the town, among a number of other businesses. I remember coming here a couple of times when I was younger - I believe I saw Casper here during its initial theatrical run. I really love the exterior - it has a retro feel and the neon signage was the cherry on top. The box office is located right before you enter and they have a concession stand immediately to your left after you entering. There are technically two screens in this theater, though I feel they may have added the second one later on. The main theater is large, almost auditorium like with many seats. The second theater is off to the side - it kind of looks like a room that was used for something else at first - the screen is one of those roll-down projector types, and the seats look like ones you wound find in a home theater. I was in the latter theater (called the Screening Room) - it was comfortable but not what I was expecting. The theater as a whole provided a comfortable experience, but it can definitely use some love - a lot of the fixtures and aesthetics are old and worn. I could see where some renovations were done but a lot of it can use some sprucing up. Hopefully as time goes on we will see more improvements to the space, I feel it's really important to have local theaters that show independent and art house films. Customers service was great, and overall I had a good experience rediscovering Pelham Picture House. I would have no qualms returning, and would in fact seek it out if they're showing a film I want to see. It's really great to see theaters like this still standing in Westchester. read more

It's been years since I have seen a movie at Pelham picture house and joint looks the same with minor upgrades .It's a old town movie house showing new , foreign , classic , cult favorite, etc, movies for silver screen lovers. 2 theater screens, comfortable seats , good sound and picture quality and wherever you sit , the viewing is clear and unblocked . My cuz and I went to see a Italian political thriller which I actually enjoyed and did not fall asleep for one seconds with the director and main actor answering questions and giving the behind the scenes of the films production.If you want a change from the big movie theater chain feel , then go to a movie house just like Pelham movie house and get that small town movie theater vibe . . read more

Love the place. It is small and intimate, making it, perfect for little kids. Their meal selection is limited; just keep that in mind. We attended a birthday party and then another time while a birthday was taking place. It was a bit loud - we heard them while watching the movie. Very disappointed. I purchased tickets to see the Tragedy of Macbeth. I did not know the viewing would be in a screening room that was the size and room quality you'd see in someone's garage. The seating was the exact opposite you'd expect where each row was slightly below the row in front of it, making the site-lines poor. The screen size was small. The audio was sub-standard. The small theater is awful. We went several weeks ago to see Oscar shorts. The sound system is a home-grade out-of-the-box set up with one of the front speakers missing, sort of a detriment to surround sound! The theater was cold and they sold more tickets then were seats available. People actually had to grab some folding chairs, not a way to run a movie theater. I'm a big fan of movie theaters built in the 1920s and 1930s. Aka "Movie Palaces" Movie palaces where ornate grand often with 2000 to 4000 seats. Others were smaller around 1000 seats. The Picture House was built in 1921. While it's smaller than those grand movie palaces. It still has all the charm, of those larger movie palaces. The theater was slated to be closed and torn down in 2002 to put up a bank. But a group of concerned people got together and now, it's been completely renovated and taken over by a non-for profit group. The main auditorium has been beautifully redone, with wood columns in the celling and many original elements of the theater brought back. 300 seats is the capacity of the main auditorium and all new very comfortable seats or put in about five years ago. There is a small screening room, that used to be a dentist office,where they have very comfortable leather reclining chairs. A very cozy place to see a movie. A mix of independent and smaller movies are featured along with the regular "Hollywood" films such as:The Age Of Adaline, Woman In Gold, mad Max Max. They are also special screenings of films in advance of their release with actors or the director of the film to answer questions. As well as a special film series with the seasoned film critic Marshall Fine. One can become a member, which entitles you to enjoy half-price admission for any movie in the main auditorium, as well as a special price in the intimate screening room. The concessions are very reasonably priced. The popcorn IS definitely delicious fresh popped before each show and offering real butter. This theater is a real GEM The only single screen independent theater, 94 years in operation in Westchester County. So make sure that you go down to this fine venue, to enjoy, either a regular Hollywood film or a quirky independent film. read more

This is a quaint little restored theater that almost always has some special event going on. The main reason to go here are for the screenings as well as the many guest question and answer screenings they do. They play artsy movies, indie movies and festival movies. The theater itself is sufficient. The seats can be pretty uncomfortable and I have an issue with the screen not being wall to wall because it tends to not fill my field of vision and I have a tendency to start looking to my sides. The snack stand is decent - tiny and there's a $10 minimum for credit card but we can easily pass that with a drink and fresh popcorn and there's a few different candy varieties. My brother and I went to see a screening of "Blackfish" with one of the former trainers interviewed in the movie doing question and answer after. By the way - "Blackfish" is really good and while not as emotional as "The Cove" it still gives you a lot to think about and will be playing on CNN some time in October (check your local listings). My brother and I each had popcorn which was way not necessary because we would be nauseous shortly into the movie and shared a bag of Swedish Fish since the whales get rewarded with what else? Also we can sometimes be emotionally stunted. We stuck around for the Q&A and it was fascinating. I even got my money's worth when some guy stood up to try to argue everything that was just said in the film and by the trainer. Pure comedy gold. I'll bottom line this - the theater is a little gem. I wouldn't go here for big blockbusters but for culture it's definitely the way to go. Parking can be a huge pain. It's out of the way (for me at least) but it's definitely worth it to check out their schedules and catch the screenings. read more

Newly renovated and looking great. Got invited here several times by friends in the film community. The Picture House is the perfect place for a first look premiere or a classic on the big screen. It's a homage to the great picture houses of the 1920s. It's also a not for profit community driven theater that does an excellent job of attracting respectable names and holding premiere events. Actors, directors, and producers appear on certain screenings to do things like a Q and A with the audience. Wine and cheese are served before others, it's a intimate theater going experience run by people who take art and a sense of community very seriously. read more

Fine little neighborhood theater that shows major pictures and also fine art and independent films. We saw Argo there recently as well as the documentary on Elmo/Sesame Street, plus a handful of other indie pieces. They sponsor lectures from the film makers at times as well. (I've passed by and seen them advertised on the marquee but haven't participated yet.) Quite a feat! I understand that it was recently renovated and the large theater is very impressive. I was in the screening room once and it had folding chairs and a small screen and I felt a bit cheated for the price. The website is great! Very useful. All in all, I'll be back soon. read more

Wow, what a great place, just as I remembered from my teen years, we have lived in the area for 12 years and this was our first trip to the theater, not sure why it took us so long. The. 5 stars refer only to the screening room. Very clean, small room with circa 16 recliner seats. The sound is impeccable.

We came here because my wife grew up in town and had never watched a movie here. The theater is auditorium like, comfortable seating and not overcrowded. We watched the new Star Wars movie here so there were lots of families with small kids (may not be preferable for a couple) but we didn't mind as there were no distractions from the other patrons. The staff was friendly and refreshments were very reasonably priced. I took one star off because it smelled in the auditorium- not sure if it always smells like that or it was just a one day thing, but it was kind of off-putting. I'd come here again as it was convenient, close to home without the huge crowds or loud teenagers, I just hope the smell is gone by then. read more

This place is totally adorable, great movie house- we saw Magic in the Moonlight here- seats comfy, crowd was eccentric. The couple before us on line was duper neurotic- and had a crazy heated discussion about the location of their membership card. Then the woman started badgering the ticket seller about how many previews there would be. There is an adorable ice cream shop up wolfs lane for after your movie called double rainbow. Went to see Stars Wars today at the picture house for the first time after living in Pelham for 6 years, and I just want to say that I was impressed with how nice this theatre is, I was impressed with how they handled the crowds and I was even more impressed on how well all those children behaved and enjoyed the movie. Great night and happy to have such a nice theatre in town. I will definitely return again. read more
