My family and I have been staying on Marco Island for a conference and found Pelican Bend after a friend recommended it. The restaurant is small and very unassuming, but the food and service are fantastic. It's always nice to find the place where locals eat and isn't flooded with tourists. All of our food we well prepared and the service was attentive without being pushy. The prices are consistent with other seafood restaurants in the area, but in my opinion, the quality is much better. We will certainly be back. read more

My family and I have been coming here for dinner for years. (but hadn't been in many years) This time, we came for lunch. The "catch of the day" is no longer grouper since they said it is too expensive. They replaced it with a very mediocre, thin white fish that was tasteless (orange roughy). Orange roughy is also very high in mercury and should not be eaten. The quality of their food went WAY downhill over the past few years. Absolutely the best seafood in the area. This restaurant is family-owned and the service is great! Everything on the menu is delicious and served hot and tasty. Expect a wait in season, but you can enjoy a drink in the chickee bar or sit by the water while you wait. I especially love the fried shrimp. The breaking is very light and just right. The garlic ranch dressing on the wedge of lettuce is unbeatable. And the prices run $5-$10 below Marco Island dinner prices! read more

Eh. Went there for lunch with the family. The place was not very clean. Crumbs everywhere and I "got the look" when I asked them to wipe up the table again. I will say, the food was very good. Awesome onion rings and the fish sandwich was yummy. But, being clean is important and getting the "look" after calling them on it just does not justify more than 2 stars. This small family restaurant has the best fried shrimp I have ever eaten. I have been coming here for 27 years and the quality and consistency has never faltered. They are only open till 9 pm so go early. Chicki bar on the water for pre dinner drinks. Besides excellent seafood the steaks are scrumptious. The homemade dressings are delicious. The food is "okay" burger was obviously a frozen patty. The worst part of this place is the service. I've waited for refills and dressings for over 30 min, multiple times! I live on the island so its convenient to eat here sometimes but there are some rude and carefree waiters there. read more

Huge portions of fresh, delicious seafood in a friendly casual environment. Stopped here after a long day of shopping and had a great meal. I have been to pelican bend many time's and the food has been great! The sautéed white fish is delicious and pair it with the wedge with creamy garlic and its amazing! Although recently I found out that I have a sensitivity to gluten it has been the cause of alot of health issues, so I have taken it out of my diet and feel so much better. So I called Pelican bend to see if they could and would make the sauteed white fish for me gluten free without breading....I was told if they were slow then to immediately say we are busy..so the answer was no ...so I said ok would you be able to tell me if the french fries and the creamy garlic dressing were gluten free he said he didn't know and I would have to call back then hung up on me!! They will not see my business again! I am a health coach and I help many people to get off Gluten, and if one of my client would be treated that way I can't even imagine! I have to say I am beyond disappointed. read more

We heard so much about this place that we just had to go and experience going here for ourselves. We were disappointed to say the least. The server was not customer friendly and almost rude. He seldom checked on us to see if we needed anything and answered our menu questions with disgust. They only serve beer and wine. Beer comes in a can or plastic cup and the wine is served in a small 4 oz wine glass. I asked for my fish to be blackened and that was not really an option. The salad was a head of lettuce, cut in quarters with some dressing on it. The baked potato must have been cooked early in the day and it was so cold that it was hard to dig the potato out of the tin foil. Then to top it off, we waited another 15 minutes after we finished for our bill. Don't waste your time going here. There is always an hour wait no matter when you get there unless you show up and stand in line 45 minutes before they open. read more

Family owned dining place with an enormous following from the locals. Reasonable prices. Wait times can be insane during the prime touristy months. Line forms outside prior to opening at 5pm, so it is wise to go early. Some peculiarities of a successfully owned small business were quite notable - things that you would normally never see in a successful restaurant such as very old plastic glasses (the sort you'll see in a hospital cafeteria), plastic chairs that you normally find in an elementary school, and just overall outdated decor and dining setup. This is the sort of place that makes anyone capitalist-minded roll their eyes and wonder why they don't expand, why they don't open another location, why they don't stay open all day, etc. They do things their way and if you don't like it, then there's the exit right there. read more

Friendly service. Great ambiance and reasonable prices. We were greeted at the dock from the water and felt welcome right away. This was our second visit and this time, we brought friends to enjoy the fun atmosphere. This is a super casual and laid back place. You can eat outside, in the Chickee Bar or inside the main restaurant. There's plenty to look at hanging on all the walls and the ceiling as well as friendly local characters. Kids, groups or singles would all be comfortable here. read more

Exactly what we wanted. Pelican Bend will prepare what you have caught on your vacation fishing expedition, which is exactly what we were hoping for. The atmosphere is super casual, perfect for families, and very relaxing. It's kitschy, but clean and with a fabulous staff. They prepared our catch three different ways, and all were excellent. The food is simple, but really delicious, and very, very inexpensive. Best of all, they were able to give a great surprise to my nine-year-old son for his birthday, and the entire restaurant sang along with a special happy birthday. We will absolutely return. The weather was a bit chilly for southern Florida so we were looking for a place to eat dinner indoors. We arrived about 7:30 pm. Since they don't take reservations we waited about 30 minutes which was fine. The staff was pleasant. The place is decorated in an old Florida style which just fits the place. The food was EXCELLENT! I had the wedge salad with the house garlic dressing. The dressing was generous and delicious. I ordered the fish of the day which turned out to be grouper. I asked for it to be grilled. It was perfect. So good. I've eaten fish here before and it is always perfect. This is a go to place for me when in the area. read more

Long wait for a table for our party of 4, but worth it. We talked to several people as we waited and they all said to get the house special sautéed fish. 3 of us did.... wow! Fabulous!!! Came here with my family who love seafood. I'm personally not a huge fish fan and I am allergic to shellfish so I was hoping to find a salad. But the orange roughie sounded good and i was pleasantly surprised at how good it was!! It was their fish of the day. If you don't eat meat though, this is not the place for you. They have limited non-meat options (a few salads and sides are your only options). Price was in the medium+ range. Overall good food and nice staff! read more

Love sitting by the water, watching boats, birds... and enjoying fresh seafood at Pelican Bend! We bring our guests who visit for a taste of real ole time Florida. They are only place we can get soft shell crabs. The key lime pie is tart and frozen...delish. We have a hard time with 'regular' key lime since theirs spoiled our taste buds...hard to resist it. You would think after 40 plus years and all the hurricane damage that this place incurred they would use some of that insurance money they receive and do some renovation, such as get rid of the high school cafeteria chairs and tables, train waitstaff and better cooks. There are far better seafood places nearby and people seem to go here on past reputation alone and that isn't cutting. Service has gone down here in the last five years. First, the greeter at the front seem to have trouble acknowledging anyone who wasn't white. When we were seated. there was two have full cups of water at the table. I asked for new ones and all they did was refill the old ones. Coronavirus i didn't want. The the waitress, Sunny, came out and talked up a storm. She gave us free hush puppies, an alleged house special. They were cold, dry, bland and not tasty at all. The scallops we ordered, once again were recommended, were fair, at the very best. We asked for lemonade, as the busboy didn't exchange the water he brought. That took a bit to get to us, along with extra napkins. As a choice between 1/4 head of lettuce and some rice, I chose the lettuce(salad, or so I thought), that was a lump of barely chilled lettuce and dressing, nothing else. There was live music outside, which we requested to go out to but were denied. This place is to be avoided. I think someone should contact Gordon Ramsey and see if he could fix this place, which is circling the quality drain of fish places. read more

We love this restaurant! We order the fish special, sautéed, except for the one time we caught our own mackerel and had them sautée it. And we always get the lettuce wedge with house dressing. Has been sumptuous every time. The ambiance is nothing to write home about so it's not the place to go if that's what you're looking for. The servers tend to be pretty assertive, with a bit of attitude, which we find entertaining, but others might not like. We had small children with us one time and it was fine for them. If you want the freshest fish prepared by someone who really knows what they're doing, this is your place! read more

Went there on recommendation of a friend. Nope, not for us. No local fish? Shoot, I thought since it's right on the water... anyway. Oyster were yucky. I was excited to come to Pelican Bend, but, alas, it was a very disappointing let down. The place looked old and out of date, the tables & chairs were very cheap looking and flimsy. Inside was not very clean. When you come in, there is a very pungent odor that reminds me of incense being burned at a flea market, very irritating. Waiting for service took 20 minutes as we were ignored until we brought attention to it. The staff didn't seem very friendly, mostly indifferent. The food is not worth the excessive price and was a real let down. The food is not fresh and is of mostly the frozen variety, rendering it mushy and tasteless. You could find better food at a Long John Silver's. It was not at all a very pleasant dining experience. I cannot recommend Pelican bend, there are better restaurants in Naples and Marco Island; especially when you're paying handsomely for it. Sorry, Pelican Bend, but, I'll find another place to eat next time. read more

We have been dining here for over 15 years. Recent visit was NOT good. Wait staff was not attentive. My fish came out raw on one end. Daughter's fish was not good and shrimp was way over cooked. I was charged for wine I did not receive. Out waitress could have cared less. Heard complaint from table next to us. With so many other places to eat at, we will not return. I wonder if the restaurant is under new management?? Something is really amiss. read more

Pelican Bend was always one of my favorite restaurants to hit when visiting Marco Island. I have been going there since the early 90's, and used to dream about their Sauteed Grouper. Well, several years ago they stopped serving Grouper and changed the fish to "White Roughy," which, just isn't the same, and is no where as good (no matter what they tell you). I've had it several times, and it doesn't taste the same as the Grouper, and I've been disappointed every time I tried it. The rest of the food is still good, and the Lettuce Wedge/ the creamy garlic dressing is off the charts, as well as the Key Lime and Peanut Butter pie. Just wish they would bring back the grouper! read more
