We stayed at the JW Marriott Marco Island, and found that the restaurants at the hotel were not what we were looking for. We drove around searched on yelp and came across this amazing family restaurant. Everything we ordered was unbelievable and I can't recommend it enough. If we're there longer I would've eaten here every night. This is another place that I would say run and don't walk, absolutely phenomenal in every way. Went for a "nice" dinner to one of my parents' favorites from back in the day. I ordered a New York strip and it was fine. Not as good of a cut as I was hoping for. It was prepared as ordered. The others in my party had a similar experience. Mom's dinner wasn't "as good as she remembered", but was still satisfactory. The restaurant has nice charm and ambiance - not "fancy", but definitely nicer than other joints on the island. Service was friendly and precise. For the money, I'd probably try other places on the island, but I'd certainly come back if the occasion called for it. read more

If you like Thanksgiving Dinner and want to get it any other day of the year Kretch's turkey dinner is as good or better than mom's home cooking. No fake mashed potatoes here! I went to Kretch's on Monday, which is German night, with 2 friends. The service was excellent, friendly and very nice servers. We all ordered the Viena Schnitzel which is a favorite on German night, from what I have been told. I was disappointed with the meal. The Schnitzel was not the veal cutlet I'm use to, it was a more of a poorly tasting veal pattie covered in gravy. The potato pancake was nothing more than fried hash browns with a thick tasteless outer crust on the outside. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Like so many of the restaurants on Marco, Kretch's is very unassuming, hidden away on one of the side roads in a small stretch along with a hair salon and doctor's office. Though it's not on the water, it has a very cute nautical theme inside, fitting as they are known for their seafood (and also their German food, which is a specialty once a week). The bar area is separated from the dining room, which I very much appreciate. Our group of four was seated immediately (we did have a reservation, which is recommended) at a nice table in the main dining room. The server was amazing, so friendly and patient, and very on top of things! I started with Lobster-cargot which is possibly the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life. And then I had some of the Mushroom Caps which were stuffed with crab meat. Everything was very good. Prices are high for food, but that's typical for Marco Island and for the current times. However, drink prices I found very reasonable (i.e. the split of prosecco was $8). I'd like to go back and have a nice piece of fresh fish. read more

Choosing a restaurant for dining out while on vacation can be exasperating and tedious. So many choices with only limited days, all the while, pulling the trigger on a location to wind up unsatisfied and disappointed by either overpriced bar food, or below par dining service, sometimes both. The consensus tonight was steak. A decent piece of meat for a price that wasn't geared towards tourists. (Chris Ruth's or Prime & Seafood) Pulling up to the outside of Kretches, was a diner vibe with upper scale prices, we weren't really sure what to expect. We were sat right away, 15 minutes before our reservation, and greeted promptly. We both had iced tea, which I am a tea connoisseur, was the best fresh brewed iced tea I've had on the island. Super impressed and we've only ordered TEA. We each order New York Strip Steaks with Caesar salad and 1/2 rack of ribs to share. The Bread : house made, warm rye bread sliced into "sticks" with cold butter. The Caesar Salad : generous portion of fresh crisp romaine hearts, fresh shaved Parmesan, house made crumbled bacon pieces tossed with a perfectly homemade fresh garlic with a hint of lemon Caesar dressing. The Steak : came out cooked PERFECTLY, nice big strip, I ordered a loaded baked potato with a side of ranch. Even the ranch was house made. Fresh grated cheddar cheese, house made bacon pieces, butter and sour cream. The potato was cooked perfectly and I mixed in the ranch. My meal was to die for! HEAVENLY!! The Ribs : 1/2 rack Baby Back Ribs with BBQ sauce, fall apart ribs on the bone. The ribs were good, I'm not sure I would need to get them again but the pasta salad that came on the side. Rotini pasta cooked Al dente, peppers, red onion and feta cheese!! I could literally eat an entire bowl as a main course maybe with some grilled chicken and extra dressing. The Carrot Cake : a generous piece of house made moist (I hate that word too, but couldn't be more appropriate) carrot cake simultaneously layered with a delicate cream cheese icing. MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. (Forgive me for the picture, it was ordered togo, and I couldn't wait to try it when we got home!) I know this was a lot, but our experience tonight could not be wrapped up in a short paragraph. The service, all of our food, the bread and the TEA.. even the TEA, super impressed and cannot believe we hadn't found this hidden gem sooner. I would hate to say that the vibe of the outside is to deter tourists but we almost passed up on what I consider a staple of Marco Island. Our servers name was Laura, I want to make sure I give the proper credit when credit is due. Above and beyond service, though every single person was friendly and prompt!!! We arranged to get a Thanksgiving dinner for pickup. It was WONDERFUL! The meal was ready to go when we were scheduled to pickup. The turkey was so moist and tasty. There was plenty of food. Everything was delicious. I do wish we had two pies. read more

Great old fashioned locals restaurant. I've been passing this place for over 20 years every time I'm in town and finally had dinner here. Once inside there is a left side with a small bar and a few high tops, on the right is the main dining room area. Place could use an update, it looks like nothing has changed since it opened, which is fine cause I care more about the food but worth mentioning since most other places in town are newer. The food was great. Had broiled grouper. Cooked perfect , had some capers on it, I just kinda scraped them off cause what is a caper? The fish tasted great, cooked perfect. My brother had the shrimp over pasta which he loved. We both had iced tea and plus points as that tasted great and bonus they leave a pitcher of tea on the table to refill. They give you fresh home made bread that tastes amazing as well. Prices are low here for incredibly good meals so if you need a good old fashioned family place I would go here anytime. If you are looking for a flashy expensive place this isn't it, if you want good old fashioned solid cooking go here. read more

The place is clearly a family restaurant. It was very loud with lots of lively conversation. We were seated immediately at 7:15 on a Friday night. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. Food came right out. We ordered a mini seafood strudel, which was more cheese than anything and not something we would order again. But the Sambal shrimp, OMG so good. If we return to Kretch's that will absolutely be what I order. 5 stars for that dish on its own merit. The shrimp scampi was good but back to the Sambal shrimp...! I do appreciate the server who went out of her way to let me try the potato pancake which was a little dry. seafood soup was ok but there was a spice I did not like in it.
