Pelican in Whitehouse is one of the worst businesses I've ever had the displeasure of working with. While the salesman was knowledgeable and nice, everything after was downhill. From no one being available to help figure out the financing, to the crap attitude from the associate regarding all the things wrong with the spa that was delivered, to not being a priory whatsoever - I will never purchase from this store again and would send anyone else thinking of doing so to run in the opposite direction. The installers drilled the mechanics top into the panel in front of the electric so you now can't get to it and they broke it while attaching it when screwing it in. The spa has scratches and a huge bend/bow in it in one side and is filthy. The associate I did speak to told me there's probably not much they can do because the spas are handled by forklifts and scratches are bound to happen. When I'm spending almost $8000, I except you to deliver a clean, unmarked, spa and not drill into the electric panel cover nor break the piece your drilling into. Was told to email pictures which I did early this morning and asked for the Service Manager to call me back immediately. Waited til noon, called them only to be told he's aware but won't be back until this afternoon and will probably call me then. Awful service - take your business anywhere else but here!!! read more

We purchased a propane Fire Pit from Pelican months ago and still love it. We did however have a miscommunication which lead to us purchasing the wrong (and very expensive) propane tank from a different online retailer. I would love to give them 5 stars but I just can't. The people there for the most part are friendly. Their knowledge if pools hot tubs etc is great. I have never walked out empty handed because they did not have what I needed. My issue is the price tag on their stuff. They are not cheap. Drop the price a little and earn a star. read more

I called to see when the last day was to return after Christmas and they said it was final sale which it does not say on my receipt. I went in to the store to be a new weber grill, it would of been the third one purchased from Pelican. I found the grill I wanted for 799.00 not a cheap grill, they told me there would be an 80 dollar assembly and delivery charge, however if I bought an 80.00 grill cover they would wave delivery and assembly. I said this is outrageous as a number of stores in the area had same grill, same price no delivery or assembly charge. I asked that Andrew the manger call me, I waited 3 days he never called. Bought the grill at another store same price, no delivery or assembly charge and no need to buy a grill cover. Went in to browse at items we wanted early in the summer and worked with Marie Beitz, but ended up not buying anything at that time. Later in the summer she called us to tell us they were starting their end of summer sale, which was a huge help to us, as we thought it would have been several more weeks until it started. When we went in to look, Marie was very helpful and attentive, without being pushy or hovering. She gave us good things to consider regarding various warranty options for the varying quality of item we were considering. I had dealt with some of their winter sales people that made me walk away feeling I got a sales pitch rather than assistance. Marie had none of that feeling. Buyer Beware! This place is not worth the 2 star review the others have given it. It must have gotten worse in the past 2 years. The guy, Jose, lied to us by telling us we would be able to return the ski boots we bought for a refund if we did not like them. When we voiced concerns that they were a little tight and uncomfortable he even told us that they were supposed to be like that and that my wife could ski on them for 3 days this season and return them if she was not 100% satisfied. When we went to return them because they were hurting my wife's feet (after 2 runs) they said they could not give us a refund because they were used and that they would never have told us that they could. They are lucky they have a monopoly in this area, otherwise they would have some serious shaping up to do. They charge an arm and a leg for mediocre services (got a problem with your hot tub? Expect to have them "find" the problem and "fix" it a few times, all for a fee of course) and their second-rate and damaged products are overpriced as well (for example: over $200 for fire-pits that were dented and rusting). Folks that work there...some are courteous, knowledgable, and professional, others are just down-right rude...yet still have to keep going back. We went to pelican, they had a great selection, gave details about the product, and sales people were friendly and helpful. I purchased a CALSPAS from PelicanSpas with a lifetime warranty. the ozone generator failed after 1.5 years. When I contacted Pelican I was told the part was no longer made. They could not help me and to contact CalSpas direct. CalSpas told me based on the serial number there is no lifetime warranty even though it is clearly stated on the invoice. I sent them a copy of the invoice twice and have not heard back. Final I contact the manufacturer of the part and was told it is available and could purchase it on line for $38. I call Pelican to explain the part is available and tried to get they to honor the warranty. I was told the warranty was not theirs , was called a butthole and hung up on. I will never deal with Pelican Spas or CalSpas again. read more

For almost $10 K I expected for them to arrive and I'd be relaxing the next day in my new hot tub, and they'd take care of everything. Instead I have plenty of work ahead of me. I could have just ordered from home depot and saved half the price and have had to work just as hard. This could have been alleviated, or mitigated if the site visit prior to installation had actually occurred. But 2 times they didn't show, or return a call . That should have rung bells in my head that it was not a professional outfit, and killed the sale. I'm too old for this kind of crap. It the site person had showed, we could have discussed the potential issues and options. When I called to speak with the owner, I got a big song and a dance, and the person helping me was utterly unhelpful, and either ignored the issues, or tried to mitigate them. The reason I didn't give them 1 star was because it wasn't out and out fraud, and that the delivery occurred in a reasonable amount of time and they arrived on time. But it was an absolutely poor customer service experience. I like to shop local, but some businesses just don't earn the community's support. Hopefully the situation won't get worse once I have this thing operating. read more

Stopped by Pelicans off Rt22 to check out the hot tubs. Planning to purchase one this season for the family. Looked at the units outside and didn't see a salesperson. Went inside and started poking around the hot tub display section. I was the only person looking in this area. Lots of service people walking around and glancing my way but nobody seemed to give me much thought. After looking for about 15 minutes I just left. Did't know who to ask or where to go for help. Currently have other local hot tub dealers calling me to stop by their shops. Guess Pelicans is too busy to sell me a $10K hot tub. read more

Horrible experience. I paid for a new sand filter/pump over the phone. I was told this was the only way to hold it for me as I drove over an hour to pick it up and it was their last one. Upon arriving I was handed a display model. No box. No manual. Missing parts. AND it was broken in several areas. I told the associate named Barry that I did not want a display model and questioned why it had broken plastic parts and was missing parts and a box and even manual. He shrugged and said to speak to his manager Mike who was the one who sold it to me over the phone. Barry loaded the pump into my car. We contacted Mike who said he was sorry, and said he would refund me a portion of our payment to compensate for the broken piece as well as the fact it was a display model. We had to drive all the way BACK to the store to pick up the box and other missing parts/manual that we were not given the first time we were there as Barry never bothered to look when we picked it up. I never received the refund as promised and as such have had to open a BBB complaint to get the partial refund for the broken piece and the fact I was sold a display model at full retail price. Imagine my surprise when an employee named Bill W. responded to the BBB complaint and LIES saying I probably broke the pump putting it in my car?! The fact they would sell someone an open boxed damaged item without telling them, then promise to compensate for it, then never follow through is bad enough, but now to outright LIE about it is something else. I would never do business with this company again and strongly suggest you don't pay over the phone for items, as at pick up you may be given opened/damaged items. I will be disputing my purchase with my credit card company until it is resolved. read more

I only give them 1 star because I can't give a zero., extremely unprofessional. we went in to buy a $1000 pool robot, and nobody even asked us for help. They were too busy chatting amongst themselves and playing on cell phones. We then went to clearance section, and one sales woman was aggressively hostile when I asked for a lower price on a clearance item. As we walked away the woman accused me of talking about her behind her back!!. This was totally not true; I was commenting on the high prices. Then as we drove away, all the sales men came out and waved sarcastically at us. This was complete bullying. So my husband went back to the store and confronted them, and asked to speak with manager. 1) Sales people claimed they were waving to the gas station attendant across the street. not true, he didn't know them. 2) we were not allowed to speak with management. I also sent and email and called, no one called me back. We will never do business with them again. They make buying a spa like buying a used car in the 1970s. The salesman, who someone told me is the owners brother, has a slimy disposition. The Cal Spa I bought there 4 years ago is garbage. If you want to get a low end Spa go to Costco. I just replaced the spa with a Hotspring tub, night and day. In our situation we got no support from the store. I replaced my own LEDs and heater, they just want to move product. So as he sits on the spa, spews his canned speeches and then tells you this is the last one, do you really want to roll the dice, try not to laugh. read more

Two women working on a Saturday, were offering minimal help and neither one moved from behind the counter. It's hard to hear answers to your questions that are shouted from across the store. I recently bought a grey wicker sectional patio furniture (couch, end table, coffee table) for my new veranda deck. I looked around for a while but found Pelican Pools (WhiteHouse Station) to have the best variety, quality and price. I worked with Mindy. She was extremely helpful in helping me find the right set to fit and match my new deck. She also helped with color, style, fabric selection for the cushions. The set was ordered, arrived on time and the delivery guys assembled and placed the furniture. Soon after the order was placed, I worked with Mindy to get matching cushions for my chaise lounges and patio chairs. She remembered my cushions ordered them and they came with the delivery. DO NOT BUY A HOT TUB FROM THEM!!! I wish I had read these reviews before buying a hot tub from these idiots. Ken Hollingsworth sold me a hottub in 2014, then sent a demo model to my house with no product guide. So, the cover was wrong and the guys that hooked it up were big delivery guys with no idea about the product. When I was looking to buy, all I heard about were the great things about a salt water system- ease of use, less chemicals, etc. The truth is that you have to monitor it carefully.. so much so that people have had to have the heater replaced in 2 weeks. One year later my heater is busted, spent $150 to find out it was not our electrical panel and then they charge $140 for their own electrician's trip charge. Then Ken proceeds to tell me that you would pay to have your oil changed on a car, so that is the same as paying for the trip charge and why shouldn't the electrician get paid. Yes, the electrician should get paid, by Pelican who sold the piece of crap. NO, it is not the same as an oil change... if my car or washer or other big ticket item is covered under warranty, I don't pay anything. I think they sell sub-par equipment just so that they can make money on the trip charge and chemicals (that are also outrageous). I think I am just going to report them to the Better Business Bureau and you all should do the same. read more

I've purchased ski apparel and skis from Pelican in the past. This summer, I purchased an outdoor set at Pelican for my patio. I spent about $5,500. We lived with it for 30 days but we were not happy with the set. I went back to the store expecting a big fight about returning it, but instead I was told to pick out any set I wanted, and they were happy to deliver the new set and pick up the old set for no charge. I also mentioned I had a party planned for the very next weekend, and they made sure to do this for me in the next several days. What great customer service. We love our new set. It's so uplifting to see a company put customer satisfaction first. I guess this is how they have been in business so long while so many other companies have come and gone. Great Job Pelican. This is a very good store with a lot of variety in their offerings. The manager Jay is a very nice person who obviously cares about his customers. He worked with me on a very frustrating issue that required me to return a filter that was not working correctly. I had called the East Brunswick store by mistake and the manger over there gave me a hard time and lied about the return policy. When I finally called the correct store, I got Jay who was very patient in listening to a customer who was very frustrated by this time and accepted the exchange of the obviously defective filter. read more

I called for a recommendation for installation of a hot tub pump. I also wanted to have it serviced and a lesson on taking care of it since I just moved into the house. They we very helpful in setting me up with an appointment. Appointment morning comes and no service person. I called the store to see if someone was coming and they state that they are short handed so they won't be there until later in the day. Do they not realize that people have jobs? I took off work to be here and they do not even bother to call to tell me that they could not make it until the afternoon. I missed work and will miss another day (which I do not get paid for). Awful experience...Purchased an above ground pool on May 24th, they delivered it on the 29th and I hired one of their recommended installers on June 3rd, all to find out that they don't assemble ladders...Hired an outside person to put the ladder together and it was broken(had to pay him $25 for coming out), went back to Pelican and was given a new ladder...Had the guy come back out to assemble and this one was also broken(another $25 I had to pay for him to come out)...Pelican never checked the new box...I called to complain, it was a Friday they said they would assemble the ladder and deliver it to my home early next week...Monday it came in a box not assembled...Again, I called to complain to a manager this time and Art said he will send someone out...They sent a man that has never assembled a ladder...He is now on his 3rd day to my house and has 5 hours on the job...I have multiple calls in to Managers and NO customer service what so ever...I pointed out that brackets were backwards and this guy got nasty...21 days after a $2,600 dollar purchase and still can't get in my new poolVery Disappointed Pelican read more
