The wife and I are down here for a little vacation and decided to get some tacos after getting roasted by the sun. Ordered the carne asada tacos and a 'wet' Dude burrito. Fan-freaking-tastic. While staying nearby in VA Beach I stopped in one evening for tacos for dinner. The place was packed and there was a line with about 10 people in it when I went in, but it only took about 10 mins to get to the register. They have a deal on Monday where you get three of their fish tacos for $9, but you can't add anything to them or make any sort of modification. The tacos took about 10 mins to be made and brought out to my table and they looked rather messy, with one having had the topping slid off. The flavor of the tacos was great though! The fish was perfectly fried and tasted fresh and all the topping were excellent! Service here is rather a pain, they seem to act like they're popular and you just need to deal with the service you get. If the service was better, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

There were no discernible spices on the chicken, not even salt, and the chicken was very dry, covered by a thin layer of shredded cheese and a giant pile of shredded iceberg lettuce. Out of the two the shrimp was the best . The shrimp came fried and not over done. With cabbage slaw on-top with a little heat. I think that was a nice touch. I used to absolutely love the fish burrito--it was hands-down one of the best around. Lately, though, the quality just hasn't been the same. On my last couple of visits, the fish burrito was disappointing. The breading on the fish was soggy instead of crisp, and there was a heavy amount of bean paste that overwhelmed the other flavors. My meal was $44, and I ate every last bite... It was so good. I did come here after a hike, though lol. Service is also quick and accurate. Their selections are varying - vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options are available. Anyway, the style of this restaurant is one where you walk up to the counter, order (there are drinks you can grab while waiting in line, or Jarritos and alcohol behind the counter you can ask for). Then you grab the number sign for your table, seat yourself, and wait for your food. The meals come out lightning fast, too. The restaurant is a bit noisy from bar-goers sometimes. Not hating, I think towards the front of the store there would be quieter seating, instead of towards the bar. I ordered 2 crispy shrimp tacos, elote, and appetizer-style shrimp quesadillas. Those are probably the best shrimp tacos I've had. The shrimp were fried perfectly, juicy, and fresh. My elote was good, it had a little too much cheese. And I loved the tiny shrimp quesadillas, they were a perfect portion for me to be able to clear my plates. I went with my fried who got a burrito and the chips trio (salsa, queso, guac). I bummed off her chips and really liked the guac. The queso was a bit runny but still good. I also liked the salsa. Their chips are thin and crispy. I believe she got "The Dude" burrito. They have a private parking lot which is awesome! You place your order with a cashier and then they bring it out to you when it's ready! We ordered an assortment of food and drinks. Everything was pretty tasty some things were better than others. The guacamole, fish tacos and the Elote were the shining stars of our meal. Pelon's is great! I've been coming here for years and when I moved to the Oceanfront one of the "selling features" was being within easy walking distance of Pelon's. I always start with their horchata and elote. Now you can find elote at a variety of restaurants, but for awhile Pelon's was one of the only spots. They have two different kinds you can choose from too. I'm a huge fan of their carne asada fries. Now that I think about it- I don't think I've ordered anything else in my last few visits. I've dabbled with a little bit of everything on the menu throughout the years though. They do have two other locations, but I haven't checked them out since this one is close to home. However, watch your order when you place it online. Once I placed it with the wrong restaurant. It was embarrassing, but they were able to help me out by canceling the order at the other store and taking care of me. It wasn't super smooth- but I can't fault them on that when it was my mistake. Now I've stopped coming here quite as much as I used to. I don't know if there are just more options now so I'm a little pickier or if their food just doesn't hit the spot quite like it used to.
