Uninsured motor hit my car, and since I have a coverage for that I cliamed for fixing the entire left side of the car that got damaged. I had an extended warranty on the car, but it is now void, due to the accident. I claimed for the loss of extended warranty remainings, but they keep ignoring this claim. We've been with Pemco for more than 20 years and have always liked them. We were disappointed recently when we were in an accident that was not our fault. Our car was totaled and we filed our claim through Pemco, who we were told would then collect from the insurance company of the driver who was at fault. We were surprised at the way our claim was handled. Our adjustor at Pemco always seemed very guarded and reluctant to give information as to the best way for us to handle the claim. There was information that we received from them later after the claim was settled, that had we known at the beginning would have helped us replace our late model car (which we did replace with pretty much exactly the same car) with a lot less out of pocket from us. They were excellent guardians of the other insurance company's money. read more

The representative Marilou Morada-Kenyon encourage me to pay instantly and after a couple of months the 30+ experienced agent noticed that make a mistake and cancelled my policy without hesitate. We experienced a hit and run by a Pemco insuree. The person was located using a parking lot camera. We filed the claim and from that point on it went down hill. The claim adjuster, Kim E. was rude, did not return my calls, wouldn't give me any time frames and approved the repair without notifying us. We found out the repairs were approved by the place we got our estimate from. I called Kim E several times to verify that it was approved but, never received a call back. We go in tomorrow and I hope it's approved but, who knows. I realize we aren't the policy holder however, with customer care like this, I won't be becoming a policy holder any time soon. read more

A little surprised at Pemco. We've happily had our car insurance with them for over 35 years and our home for over 20. When my husband called to see if we could bring our costs down, he was told there was nothing that could be done; even after hearing that we can save several hundreds elsewhere. I would think that Pemco would like to keep loyal customers who have made very few claims over the years and have fairly clean (a couple of speeding tickets and a fender bender) driving records, but it doesn't seem to matter to them. For a reputable, local company (who we enjoyed supporting) to disregard our patronage is unfortunate. To not even be willing to negotiate is just bad business. read more

Low rates, easy going people, great service. I've been with Pemco for almost 2 years now. I was with State Farm before, and they were also great, but I was paying way too much. I switched to Pemco, got full coverage for my car AND my partner's car and paid LESS than i was paying with State Farm (for base coverage on one vehicle). When another driver collided into my parked car and the damage totaled 15k, Pemco covered it all. They were a breeze to work with, as well as their preferred mechanic here in Portland, and all it cost me was my $200 deductible. I got a letter from PEMCO stating my auto insurance rates went up 72.81% for no reason other than other people have too many collisions. I've been with PEMCO 9 + years and have zero at-fault collisions. So I called them and they just don't care. If I'm an average customer, and the average rate hike was 70% per customer, sounds like they are just out to make a ton more money overnight. Greed, apparently is more important than providing a quality product at a fair price. I used to recommend PEMCO for auto and homeowners insurance to my friends, and I liked that they were a Washington Company. I don't recommend them any longer and will tell everyone from now on that they should look elsewhere. Buy PEMCO insurance if you want to go with a company that will just raise your rates more than 70% at one go after a decade being a loyal customer. To the Pemco accounting department--which SURE IS a little bit different: When I overpaid my insurance, why did you refund one insurance overpayment of approx $57.00 BUT decided to keep for yourselves for later, for a FULL SIX MONTHS LATER!!!!, for heavens sake, the much larger sum for auto of $181.00 (approx) WITHOUT MY CONSENT AND WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME, and, presumably without interest to me!!! Your action not only violated a customer's financial rights but also broke trust. I had paid about a month in advance the initial premiums for both house, car, umbrella because our wonderful Pemco agent had been ill and I didn't want him to be totally swamped when he returned: he could figure out how much you folks owed me at a more leisurely pace--the deadline was approaching. Well, you folks, with your "little bit different" style of accounting, forced me to go to my agent to ask him to wrench loose my OWN money from your sticky fingers, which he finally did, after about a month of wrangling with you. No, you folks aren't "like me"--I do NOT keep money which isn't mine. Imagine the example you are setting for your young people---Will they be just like you, Pemco, a "little bit different," and fudging ethics a bit? CRIMINAL. Worst experience ever with an insurance company. Honestly? It has everything to do with one adjuster that has made this accident a nightmare. I had left my previous car insurance company, after many years, because the rate was too amazing to pass up with Pemco. Unfortunately, my boyfriend was in an accident. The other driver and insurance company took complete fault. Even with that, I've never ONCE spoken to my adjuster. I've called several times, only to receive a reply by email. I was told she was on vacation, so I let it slide. Finally, three days after the accident, NO CALL FROM AN ADJUSTER OR ANYONE from PEMCO, I called to speak to a supervisor. She laughed when I said my adjuster was on vacation, stating that was untrue. How inappropriate. This was August 20th. Still have never spoken to my adjuster. I have a window that now does not work, which she EMAILED me stating it was not related to the accident. Funny. It worked just fine prior. I even paid out of pocket for the "switch" to be replaced, which obviously was the wrong diagnosis. I have yet to be reimbursed for the rental car "courtesy upgrade" due to being sent to two different locations over the city. No reimbursement for my transportation to the autobody shop or rental car location. In fact, I've paid out of pocket, and have a vehicle in worse shape than prior to the accident. When you can't roll your passenger window down to be sure there's not an oncoming car, I find that to be quite UNSAFE. I'm told this has nothing to do with the accident from being sideswiped on my passenger side?? Your adjuster has made my experience the worst. I get nowhere with her. It's been over TWO MONTHS. My window won't work. My adjuster has terrible communication. She is definitely NOT an advocate for your customers. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED. Paying more with another company is actually worth it to me. I've never had to deal with such a mess with a company in my life. I am just livid with PEMCO. Just found out that we have been without auto insurance for almost 3 months! We were in the understanding that our policy was on autopay and did not receive a single email or phone call that our policy had expired. If I hadn't randomly called our agent to talk about something unrelated, we would have never known until something came up like an accident! This situation has now created a huge mental and financial obstacle for us as a lapse in policy is a deal breaker for many insurance companies or they jack up rates to compensate. We are now being quoted $1-3k more due to the lapse!!! This is outrageous and a result of the world's WORST customer service ever!!! In my almost 30 years of driving I've NEVER had a lapse in coverage EVER! I've been with Statefarm, Allstate, Safeco and even Geico and had never experienced anything like this. I've had PEMCO Auto Insurance forever (40 years) and never needed them until I had my first accident recently. The person I collided with had already contacted the main office by the time I got home, and they'd called me for confirmation and to assign a case number. There was no further contact after that inital call... PEMCO worked with the body shop and repaired my car for me. Couldn't be any easier! I've had Pemco insurance for a long time, including homeowner, rental, car and maritime. I've never really had to file a claim before, though, so when I had a large house fire last year I wasn't at all sure what to expect. The adjuster who met me at the house after the fire (Greg) was awesome to deal with. He walked me through the process very carefully and was incredibly knowledgeable. Pemco worked closely with me and got the first check to me much faster than I had expected, and then worked in tandem with my contractor to get the house rebuilt as good as new. Over the eight months it took to rebuild, I never had the impression that they were trying to be anything but fair with me. I wouldn't wish a house fire on my worst enemy, but Pemco was great and I definitely recommend them. read more

I have never had any claims, any tickets or accidents in those past 20 years and have an excellent credit score until a couple months ago , I had a minor accident that hit my front right bumper . Even with what they said they applied many discount including loyal customer and accident forgiveness , they said due to many claims and many drivers in Seattle area , the cost overall are increasing . I inquired about possibly getting some additional homeowner's insurance coverage for a home-based business (primarily just working at a desk), and they CANCELLED my homeowner's coverage just for asking, even though I actually already have $6 million worth of professional premises liability coverage. No help, no questions, no negotiation, no referrals that actually returned my call. I suppose I believed in their media hype, but be forewarned: they are NOT "a lot like you". I called to get clarification and I got a scripted/canned response like we changed our rating criteria plus market changes. The customer service told me they stopped giving safe driver discount. Was EXTREMELY excited to switch, did a ton of research and long conversations with them (which they were happy to have) and switched ALL my policies over to them (auto,rv,home) and then about a month after i called to add EXTRA coverage to my custom vehicle (the fact that they offered this type of coverage was one of my main deciding factors to switch!) And by the end of the call instead of them adding my extra coverage they informed me the not only couldn't but because of some of my upgrades they should of never insured me and was sending a email to underwriting to basically "taddle" on me and i would have to wait for a email to let me know. Got email and calls demanding i take pics and send to them, specs etc etc... Ill point out now that before i switched over YES i told the agent it was lifted and custom and I'd be adding the extra coverage soon once i knew how much i needed... Not to mention that i was referred to them BY my 4x4 diesel group and over a dozen of them have bigger and more expensive rigs with this added coverage... My vehicle is a ford diesel with only 6" lift which is the #1 sold in the nation for these! Nothing super crazy big or Special... Anyway i just got a email today saying not only will they not add the extra coverage but they arw going to cancel this vehicle at end of its term... All this after i lost all my "time" discounts from my old insurance which causes even more issues.... Ill be posting this on ALL my groups so everyone that has 4x4's can switch there policies to new company too if they choose, better then getting a big bad surprise if a accident happens! I was in an accident with one of Pemco's drivers. The accident was not my fault. Pemco determined that my car was totaled. They offered me a sum of money and I told them it was not enough to get me a comparable car. Pemco then took over a week to get back to me and they offered me a very lower sum of money for my car, then proceeded to tell me I could not get the first offer. No one told me, if they offered a second time then the first one was not available any more. That is messed up! In there adds they say "We are one of you just a little different" Would you do this to one of your own? Stay away from Pemco! read more

Short version: I "hit" a bicyclist with a work van, PEMCO found out and wanted to charge me more money for my personal insurance. Long version: I was just looking to leave a gas station with a corporate delivery van, waiting to turn right onto a four lane road. I looked for an open spot in traffic, and found one. While doing so, a bicyclist rode in front of my van from the right, and as I moved forward towards the lanes, I turned my head to look away from oncoming traffic towards the right, which is where my van was rolling at a low rate of speed. I saw the bicyclist right in front of me and stopped as quickly as I could, but the nose of my van nudged him.and he tipped over on the ground. A police officer saw the whole thing happen and wrote an accident report. He told me that "This is a no fault accident." and did not ticket me. This was a very traumatic day for me because one of my friends had died the day before in a tragic truck-bicycle accident. The only thing that I didn't do right was not expect someone to come the wrong direction down the sidewalk. The bicyclist had a couple of scratches, but his bike was completely fine and there was no damage to my van. PEMCO found out about the accident and wanted to charge me $300 more per year because of it for my personal auto insurance. They had to have a police report saying that it wasn't my fault. They just had to. A lady called me most every day for two weeks, bugging and harassing me about it. I was very busy and couldn't get it to her at the time. When I finally got the police report to her, because it didn't say, "The driver of the van was not at fault.", I was still going to be charged more for my personal insurance, despite the fact that PEMCO doesn't insure my company, and was not involved with any payouts at all. This accident didn't cost them a cent. I am a reasonable person. I was patient with PEMCO, despite the fact that their incessant calling was reminding me of this psychologically traumatic accident that happened the day after my friend died in a bicycle accident. They called me no less than eight times, pestering me to get the police report. I got them the police report that they asked for. It did not say, "The van driver was ticketed." or "The van driver was at fault." but they still wanted to charge me anyway. So let's now reason together. A bike is kind of like a small car, right? It should follow all of the rules of the road, including riding with the flow of traffic, not against it. Vancouver, Washington (where this accident occurred) has a law that bicycles must do this, and also a law saying that they must wear helmets. He was doing neither, but that doesn't matter to PEMCO. They have to have a statement! The statement of faultlessness is the ONLY thing that matters to PEMCO! They still think it's my fault. I even called their customer service to try to find someone who actually had their head screwed on straight, but they said that this case had traveled around to various people within the company, but nobody could understand that it would be a bad move to charge me extra for this. It is company policy to get a statement from the police or someone...but the police specifically told me it is not their job to assign blame in the police report. It is their job to tell what happened. So PEMCO was asking me for something that was impossible to obtain! So they are effectively saying that if a car were to drive the wrong way down a four lane road and I were to not see it because I was understandably looking the other way, if I pulled out and hit the car going the wrong way, it would still be my fault. That doesn't make any sense at all. I talked with a personal friend of mine who is a police officer and he agreed with me. That's completely absurd, but that's the kind of reasoning that you get from PEMCO. Anything to make a quick dollar, regardless of long term sales. This made me angry. I went ahead and shopped around, finding comparable insurance for $500 less per year. My family has had PEMCO insurance for a long time, but now I have switched and I will be encouraging them to look around at other options and switch. This has been a horrible, time-consuming, stressful experience for me and I want everyone to know about it. Shame on you, PEMCO. You've made a huge mistake. I will be telling all of my friends what has happened here and I will be writing this story on as many review websites as I can. I assure you, this story is very, VERY painfully real. I just think that people should know how much trouble I went through with PEMCO before they decide to buy insurance from them. read more

We only had one wreck, and that was when I was hit by another car, so it wasn't y fault at all, and I have not had a ticket since 1968!!!!! but I got a letter in the mail saying that because our son that lives with us, and had his own car, but was insured thru us with pemco had a car wreck in Feb. that they are cutting my insurance off because of it.....he never drove our car, he had his own, and after his wreck he never drove our car, if he had to go somewhere I would drive him. So I quess being a loyal customer for 47 years with Pemco means nothing.....Not to mention we also had our motorhome and our home insured with them.....so be aware, if you think your safe with Pemco, be assured that if something happens like this, they will drop you like a hot potato!!! Then a new agent that retired all before the claim was finished. Finally, I switched and phoned them and they said I would be getting a check for $50. I am very disappointed with my recent interactions with the customer service with PEMCO. I went online and changed the dates on my automatic withdrawal to the 21st. All seemingly went well and the system accepted the change without automatically informing me that the umbrella and the renters could not be changed until next month but the auto could. After the fact I received the emails with the new schedule. I logged into my bank yesterday and I was overdrawn with 2 overdraft fees, due to renters and umbrella. I called in to find out what happened and the lady I spoke with was patronizing and unhelpful. She Said "I should have known better, and should have called in to make those changes instead and then this wouldn't have happened." Rather than trying to be helpful she spent our time trying to prove that I had received the schedule email and also trying to figure out an answer as to why 1 account would have gone through with the request for the 21st and the other 2 would not. However instead of being helpful about it she was patronizing. This of course upset me and I ended the call with an abrupt "cancel my accounts we will find coverage elsewhere and cancel my automatic drafts and hung up" I then called back again and spoke with someone else explained the situation and that I wanted to know what my last day of coverage is for auto so I can find other coverage. He didn't seem to care about customer retention and let me know I'm covered until the 11th and to call back in with my new info when I'm ready to cancel. I'm disappointed. I expected better from PEMCO. Granted that it probably was my fault that I didn't receive the schedule until after the draft had already occurred and assumed since it went through and didn't mention it on the approval screen anywhere that the date for draft would be anything other than the 21st I have paid the charges and the fees however we will continue to look for other coverage elsewhere. I fear the response we would have gotten had we filed a claim. We pay a lot of money for insurance and have great coverage. We cover ourselves so that if something were to happen it would not only make the people in the accidents lives easier but ours as well and in turn the company we insure withs jobs easier because we do cover ourselves. I expected more and I did not receive it. Glad though to find this out now before we had any larger problems. read more

If there was an option to give no stars I absolutely would. I got into an accident and although I was at fault, I reached out to pemco multiple times to settle this claim in a timely manner but the agent in charge of my claim did nothing/forgot to notify me of any charges I needed to pay. The agent, Keri Cook, did nothing to help me and ignored me after asking her multiple times (phone calls/emails) to let me know if I needed to settle any charges so my license wouldn't get suspended. But guess what happened! My license almost got suspended because of her for something that could have easily been taken care of had she just done her job. I have never been treated so poorly especially when I was just trying to do the right thing!! Every person I dealt with from the pemco agency was extremely rude and unhelpful. Yes. I wouldn't recommend Pemco to anyone. I backed up into one of their customers and the first time I saw the bill it was sent from a COLLECTION agency. I had been in contact with the adjuster and after I got the bill I asked the adjuster if Pemco's policy was to just throw people automatically into collections. She told me that PEMCO hired the collection agency to deal with all of Pemco's collections. I thought it was weird Pemco would send people to collections before they even had a chance to look at the bill and make payment arrangements so I contacted a Pemco rep and they told me that if Pemco tries to contact someone without a response they automatically throw them into collections. This is even before the bill has been sent by Pemco. Not sure when Pemco tried contacting me. I had left a message for the adjuster and hadn't heard back from her. Pretty pathetic to put someone in collections before they've even had a chance to view the bill! read more

I've been with Pemco for over 5 years for combined auto and home. Very good drivers in our house... my husband and I have all the desirable "stats" for what should be the best quotes in the industry. We have never filed a claim. Ever. Not for auto. Not for home. Just got my quote with an over 11% increase in my home policy and over 7% increase in both of our auto policies. We will be firing you, Pemco. Good riddance. I guess you care more about bottom line profit for your executives and board than you do for your customers. I could see an increase if we had ever filed a claim, but our rates should be going DOWN, not up... considering we have never filed a claim. And whoever this idiot "business owner" is that keeps replying to negative reviews on yelp, it's just lip service. It sounds like you have copied and pasted half hearted responses prepared by your public relations team. Pathetic. And you aren't helping to actually resolve any of the issues that people are overwhelmingly bringing to light. I was borrowing my parent's car because my own car was in the shop when my neighbor hit me pulling into his parking spot at our condo. My neighbor took responsibility for hitting my parked car and I got a call from PEMCO to work out arrangements for repairs. When I called PEMCO back with my claim number, the agent I was speaking with became very abrupt when I told him that I was calling regarding a claim because my neighbor hit my car. Regardless, we started the process, and I let them know the estimated price from the auto body shop and sent pictures of the damage done. The agent said I would receive a call back. A couple of days later I called because I had not heard anything, and again, was met by an abrupt response when I asked for an update on the claim. They told me that it would take time to process and I would hear back the next week, by Tuesday or so. I did not receive a call back from PEMCO on Tuesday or any day the next week, so I called on the next Monday. Now a familiar process, I told the agent, Mike, the number of my claim and that I was calling for an update. He was about as rude as the previous agents I had spoken with and seemed irritated and asked me what I wanted to know about it. "We sent the check, what do you want an update on?" he said. The last person I had spoken with said that they would make arrangements with the auto body shop for payment and they did not say anything about mailing a check directly to me. I have not seen the check but will be watching for it in the mail. I also find this odd because the car does not belong to me, but to my father. It seems more appropriate that the money be sent to him. Mike sounded so annoyed that I told him I thought he sounded irritated. That seemed to surprise him, but I thought it should be pointed out that he was being rude. My experience overall with this company was not good in terms of customer service. HORRIBLE! TOTAL RIP-OFFS!! It was my understanding that Pemco was the best auto insurance company you could have. Sadly, I did not read these reviews before buying auto insurance from them. A woman made an illegal left turn in front of me which totaled my car. The following day Pemco requested that I sign the title releasing my interest in my car and sending the title to them. It's been 3 weeks now and they still don't want to communicate with me and when I do get them on the phone they act like I'm just a waste of their time - I can hear the adjuster making sighs of disgust over the phone! They only want to give me actual cash value of the car ($3000) which is half the fair market value ($6000). I was told that it was my responsibility to spend hours (if not days) haggling with used car dealers all over the Pacific Northwest to get the price lowered and then I was to cough up the difference. Then, get this, they sent a letter telling me that I had to continue insurance coverage on the totaled vehicle until I find another car so I wouldn't have a lapse in coverage. Yep! I have been a customer of Pemco for 20 years and have never had to use my policy until 2010 when I was rear ended. I had neck and back issues from accident and had an MRI on left side of neck which revealed a tear and buldge. With 2 yrs. of different treatments to correct problem I finally had to have 4 specialized injections of coritzone. It took almost 3 yrs of pain and imposition to get better. The man who hit me had USAA insurance and only a 25,000.00 coverage for accidents. My medical bills took most of that and my lawyer got his part. My Lawyer went to Pemco to get my uninsured motorist compensation which I had paid into for 20 yrs, and had an amount of 50,000.00. Pemco said that there was no proof that the tear and buldge were caused by the accident and that my symptoms were from degeneration of joints from age. I am fed up with this attitude and opinion that I fabricated the injuries that I received from this accident that was not my fault. I will not let them collect my premiums any longer and am activily shopping for different insurance company, one that will believe my situation and be concerned about my needs. I want nothing more to do with them. 10,000.00 in my pocket is a joke when I have 50,000.00 in coverage, and have been a safe driver for all 20 yrs. read more

38 year customer now. Had a few accidents and a few people have hit me. I've also had to make a claim on my home owner policy and the professionalism and their ability to assist with the contractors was a better experience than I could imagine. When the home claim cost came in higher than the estimate, PEMCO didn't raise a single issue. I can't imagine any better service. In another claim, someone hit me and my car the night before I was scheduled to fly to the east coast. PEMCO was quick to respond and helped to be sure my car was ready for me when I returned a week later. I've probably had six or seven claims over the year (not all my fault of course), and I've never been pressured to settle or to choose in-house contractors or repair people. We have a good driving record, but when we have had a ticket, never a ripple. Cost-wise, I check every five to seven years or so for better rates. No one has ever offered better or even come close to matching the premiums. Just my experience. read more
