I have Pemco insurance for around 6 months now. Had my first accident about 2 months ago & PEMCO handled the situation very professionally. I was a little skeptic, but now I am very pleased with their service and will totally recommend them to a friend. I have been a loyal customer for about 30 years /3 claims. My grandson just got out of prison after 3 years. He has been clean and sober for about 700 days. Called pemco to put him on my policy and they sent insurance cards. About 2 weeks later I get a ltr canceling my policy and his bec he is living in my house and has a felony and some driving infractions. Here is a young man trying to start over and I am trying to give him a new start and pemco kicks us under the bus. I will tell/do anything to let people know how bad pemco is. Why did they ever insure him to start with? Why not just tell me he is inedigigle to start with. Shame on you pemco for not giving my grandson another chance. I love PEMCO. I love that I can call and immediately talk to a real, live person who can pronounce my name. I love that I can talk to a real, live person right after that who answers my questions about car and home owner's insurance and treats me like an adult worthy of respect. I have been with them for 7 years, and while I haven't had to file any claims, their customer service for my homeowners insurance has been awesome. I was a customer since 1988 with only 1 claim the entire time but they found ways to increase my premium. I have a clean record with no tickets but when I called about the increase in my premium they said it was the due to the area I lived in. Well I have lived in the area for 15 years and never was a problem before. Then it was my age since I am over 50 but haven't had a claim in 20 years and may I remind you it was my one and only claim. I had ran into my neighbors car. No damage to my vehicle but slight damage to the neighbors and that was it. That was in the mid 90s. I quit after being a long time customer and switched insurance. There is always someone knowledgeable on the phone whenever we call, they always follow up when they say they will, and their rates are fair and predictable. I have spent about 3/4 of my life on hold with computers, call trees and unintelligible sweatshops. I have had to humiliatingly repeat names, numbers, commands to machines that are forever "sorry... could you please repeat that" and ultimately lead to nowhere. When I hang up the phone I am so seething mad that I curse the Ivy league know-it-alls that keep firing all the customer phone support, choose talking but not understanding computer algorithms over the hard work of hiring talented people. PEMCO on the other hand has done a remarkable number on me and I am confused and bemused by my delight. Instead of hanging up the phone in a rage and pounding out a complaint, I am so overjoyed I just have to stop everything and write this glowing review. First, the website, the statements, practically everything they print has something in the old days we used to call a Customer Service Phone Number. And while many companies burry it so deep in the fine print, or on an obscure page on the web decision tree you can never find it, PEMCO says, "hey got a question, here's the number, call us." And the 5-6 times I've called it over the years, a pleasant voice always thanks me for calling and then asks how she can direct my call. I sit there waiting for the options, forgetting that at PEMCO when you call their customer support number a human answers the line. Well knock me down with a feather. I recover and blurt out a couple lines about my inquiry and the nice voice says "Let me get you right over to such and such." Done and done. The old "I'm sorry" robot would still be playing fiddle on my nerves. Then a nice guy answers and strangely I seem to have his undivided attention. He's not finishing a joke with a comrade and doesn't make a half-hearted attempt at my last name. No loud phone bank in the background, in fact he sounds educated, engaged. I give him my info, rattle off my questions and he answers it precisely. I get to hang up and only about 3 minutes have transpired, amazing! So the last part of my note is to the big bosses at PEMCO. Don't screw it up! Seriously, don't you dare ever consider replacing the nice lady who takes the first incoming calls. Don't you dare even think about hiding the phone number behind two pages of FAQs. Just let the people who pick up the phones every day, keep doing their jobs, forever, period. I will stay a customer until the day I can no longer reach those people. In a few more years, you guys will stand out like a shining and painful memory to all the bloodless insurance companies that wonder why your customers are as odd, and loyal as yours are. This company SUCKS!!! I have had insurance for 40 years and recently switched to Pemco...within 2 months the goal posts had been moved significantly...the rates seemed to increase every month, I received 3 different bills for 3 different amounts in the month of June alone as well as some coverage's being dropped...because I was the victim of a robbery several months earlier. They took the money for extra insurance no problem in the beginning when I set up this policy...then dropped my coverage and only applied the reduction in rate AFTER I cancelled them. To add insult to injury they ran the premiums for my home owners and auto separately, twice...the first time they were paid out just fine then the next day they ran both premiums again causing several over draft charges to my account...I cancelled them immediately on July 31 and still received a bill for August...customer service was no help...I will pay this to avoid a collection action but I strongly suggest you get insurance elsewhere...in 40 years i have never had this kind of issue with and insurance company...."a little different" is there slogan...I'll say! Been a customer for over 10 years. Great rates. I had my first claim in 2013 when my bike was stolen off my car. Pemco handled it quickly and my rates did not and have not increased. This winter I had my first ever accident and totaled the car. Pemco did an amazing job and I left the experience extremely impressed. My wife was involved in accident 7/2020 with 2018 GMC Denali. The officer said its a no fault accident due to no witnesses. The other driver was clearly at fault & passed people on the right to move into the lane as she was making a lane change and hit her as he pulled in to the lane. We thought no problem, we will take care of our own auto & called insurance & we spoke with the 1st adjuster, Ondria, who was very nice and seemed to be ready to go & investigate and let us know the outcome. However, we have left her 3 messages over 2 days & no return calls or even an email. I received a call from a second field adjuster, Todd, who told me he would be cutting a check to the body shop for the repairs & with no explanation of the parts approved. I then got a call from the body shop that Pemco was denying the OEM parts and they will only approve aftermarket parts. After an additional conversation, Todd came back and told me he would be denying some of the OEM parts, but I after I tried to plead my case, since the car was in pristine condition prior to this accident, he then came back & denied all original replacement parts and said he would only approve aftermarket parts !!! He even tried saying the damage done to the wheel in the accident was not a result of the accident and although they are the stock wheels that came on the Denali, claimed they were aftermarket & will not cover them. Todd also told me wasn't that familiar with GMC line up! This is my own insurance company that has been treating us so horribly and giving us the run around. I have even reached out to a manager to see if we could reach a better resolution after being spoken to so horribly by Todd, but she did nothing but back him and his terrible customer service. read more

I've been a PEMCO customer since 2009 and pay less than $86 a month for car and renter's insurance, down a bit from my initial rates. I've called other insurers for quotes a couple times since but haven't found anyone who could offer me a better rate. I've had one minor accident, a couple months ago. (The other driver was found at fault and I went entirely through his insurance company rather than having PEMCO pay for repairs first and get reimbursed later, not sure if that makes a difference.) Talking to an adjustor was very easy, even as stressed as I was, and she contacted the other driver's insurance company and got things going for me. Today I called to change my home address to a new apartment - a real live operator answered my call, it took me a couple seconds of waiting for the automated tree to realize that a human had asked me a question. I work in a position creating restitution reports on what is often times hit and runs and DWI's. In doing so, most companies who compensated the victims through underinsured motorist want their money back via a restitution order. I've seen PEMCO give genuine care and concern for there clients without regard to how much it's going to cost them (bc let's face it, just because restitution is ordered, doesn't mean they get it). They seem fair, and I've thought about switching my own insurance after seeing how they care for their clients. I'm always relieved when I receive a request from PEMCO. read more

I am a resonsible driver and have not really had to use insurance most of my life. I had been paying my insurance policy faithfully since I learned to drive over 30 years ago. When all of a sudden, PEMCO sent me a letter stating that because my son had gotten in trouble with the law, they were dropping me as a client. They always got their money from me--i was never late. My son didn't live with me and my son was not on my policy, but they didn't want people like me as a client. What can you say to that? I am a contributing member of society, I graduated with honors with a BA, I own a home, I have worked in management for more than 20 years. Sometimes, regardless of how we raise our children, they make big mistakes. I had no idea that a company could come and simply dump you because they feel you are not "elite" enough to be their customer. Yes, I too thought that overpaying for insurance would be worth it because this big, well known company would treat me fairly--I was mistaken. read more

I'm so impressed with how easy it was to get renter's insurance online and PEMCO's outstanding customer service. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my policy after just one day because they don't offer earthquake coverage (it is available through a 3rd party and they were very prompt in letting me know that option). Their prices beat out basically everyone else and if we weren't due for the next BIG earthquake, PEMCO would get my business. When I called to cancel a real person picked up and they were incredibly gracious about the cancellation. I'm shocked that other people have had a negative experience. While I was a customer for only a very short time, I dealt with several customer service reps over email and on the phone and was really impressed! I have no claims, no accidents, no tickets in 8 years and good credit. I apparently qualified for many discounts and still my Pemco insurance was increasing every year. They claim in a letter included with my renewal it is due to more drivers and claims in Seattle as the population increases. I feel like I was being penalized for others actions, and for living in the home city of the company. I had never been insured with another company and when I started getting quotes after seeing the $30+ per month increase for renewal it turned out Statefarm was about $60 less per month, and Progressive $80 less per month. I switched to Progressive and I hope it was the right choice. I can't vouch for making a claim, because I never needed to with Pemco. The customer service was good signing up and cancelling. My mother pays Way less then I was, but she lives out in the suburbs and has a much longer good driving record. So to summarize, don't pay for Pemco is you live in their neighborhood, it's too expensive! read more

I've been a Pemco customer for 8 years. I clearly should not have stuck with them this long. I have made minimal claims for minor damage to my vehicle and they have fought me every step of the way. I thought being a "valued customer" would amount to something, but apparently not. I'm pretty business savvy, and am willing and able to fight back. I also have enough money to have the repairs done without them -- but what is the point of having insurance then? What would someone with fewer means be able to do? Nothing! We originally liked Pemco because they were local. However, after 6 years with them, no at fault accidents, no change in our credit score (which is the highest you can get), and no tickets, they raised our rates by $1200 a year! Plus they raised our mortgage insurance by $100. After 3 calls they couldn't figure out why, but then said because we had too many no fault claims in the past year. 2 NO FAULT fender benders at stop signs where the other driver hit our car, and a break in where the window needed a repair. Because this happened in a 3 year span, at NO FAULT OF OUR OWN, they now are raising our rates to $100 MORE per month, $1200 more a YEAR! The rep I spoke too was not helpful, in fact, she complained about her OWN policy! We have been loyal customers, always paid on time and good drivers, but being treated badly. Also we have never made any claims on our home owners yet they raised that by $100! Unbelievable. So much for loyalty. Time to find a better insurance company that recognizes good customers...if there is one. insurance companies need to stop charging their good drivers to pay for their bad drivers. Perhaps drunk drivers should be uninsurable to make the roads safer, it seems good drivers are paying for those people. read more

Many years ago I was a member of Pemco. I had to leave them because I moved to Texas and they couldn't insure me so I switched to State Farm. HUGE mistake. State Farm sucks. But that's for another review. When I finally woke up and left State Farm after moving back to Seattle, I joined AAA and they signed me up with Safeco, against my better judgement - again, for another review. Finally, when I decided I'd had enough of Safeco's ridiculous antics and lame adjusters, because they're as useless as State Farm but cost as much, I went back to Pemco. Rumour has it, Pemco is one of the most expensive insurance companies around. honestly, I'd rather pay more for better customer service. None of which State farm or Safeco have. in fact, you're paying out the nose for no customer service with those two atrocities. When I called Pemco, my monthly premium quote was almost $100 LESS than Safeco. And she was super. When she asked me if I wanted to continue she didn't even have to finish the question. I jumped through the phone with my "yes" answer. So if you're under the assumption Pemco is the more expensive of insurance companies, don't. Give them a try. They're not the insurance mill type, but they won't bleed you dry. Don't go with the mainstream, highly advertised annoying companies, because I'll tell you, I've been hit by people who use them, and because they spend so much money on advertising, they can't afford to pay out REAL damages, and the person you hit, will end up going after you personally. Worst local insurance company, the rates are very high, and if you have claims, they will do everything in their power to get rid of you, even if it's not your fault. They like people who doesn't not make any claims so they can keep making all the premium money. First a little background. I have worked for two different major northwest insurance companies. Pemco was one of them. Each company has an underwriting philosophy that dictates their "risk appetite." Think of Pemco as the super finicky kid, who doesn't eat anything and makes a big deal about it, who you'd never invite to a party. Friendly agents (who often don't work for Pemco), helpful customer service agents, and conscientious adjusters can't make up (in some cases) for a company's narrow risk appetite. That's where the free market system helps us consumers, by giving us alternatives: insurance companies that work for real people with real world risks and needs. I dumped Pemco after a year, because they were pricey and super conservative in their underwriting and only marginal in their customer service. I don't want to ever deal with them again. I'm glad to have an agent who represents many companies and can find a good fit for me. Like other posters here, I'd give Pemco no stars if it were possible. read more

The worst insurance company! Except for signing up for their service is quick (of course, they are getting your money), the rest of department is very irresponsive, rude and defensive. I can feel the negative vibe in this company from talking to people who works here. I had bad experiences on both sides with this company - a customer and claimer. When I was their customer, they slowly jacked up the price without letting you know and when you called, they blamed for everything. Later, I was unlucky to deal with them again because the driver who rear ended me had insurance with this company so I had to deal with the claim department - horrible experiences. They got very defensive, then after arguing with them, they turned from defensive to accusing and being rude with you. The entire claim department did not care what happened to you, did not response in the timely manner which could cause unexpected cost to you and then refuse to pay for it because of this and that reasons. Just got off the phone to can my auto insurance with these guys. Was paying 99 bucks for my 5k valued beater car then this month they jacked me up to 137. No warning or notice or explaination. Called them and the best deal they could offer was reduced insurance which would be a "whole 10 bucks off". Called around and got a great deal at geico for 60 bucks a month. Called pemco back to cancelled and they had the nerve to charge me another 24 bucks. Lets see u raise my rate with no approval then when i cancel you charge me more. Just seems like they like jacking people so they don't have to prorate a balanced owed. Just paid 137 for the month of April and today is the 7th. They're just playing games and thank got we have other auto insurance companies (unlike healthcare) to actually get a reasonable deal. Skip them if you can. read more

Three Years ago, I was in an auto accident my fault. Pemco paid for the repairs, without question. We had not one issue. Three weeks ago our home was buglarized while were on vacation. Again the claims for loss of content and property damage claim were paid promptly. You cannot ask for a better response or outcome. We were the victums of a smash and grab. I wish I could give 0 or negative stars. Hopefully you are never in an accident with someone who has Pemco insurance. I was driving down the highway when the car in the lane next to me suddenly rammed into me, and scraped the entire side of my 7 month old car. He quickly admitted to fault. He and his girlfriend had been arguing and she had yanked his wheel. The police came to the scene, and helped us get all our information exchanged (the driver's and mine). After over a week, I found out my insurance company rec'd a letter from Pemco stating I was at fault. I called Pemco, and the agent claimed that was sent b/c my insurance told them that. My insurance says they never stated such a thing. And considering they have a recording of the driver describing the exact same situation as I did, I believe them. Then she says she told my agent to disregard that letter b/c it was sent in error. Again, my agent denies it. She then took my statement (even though my insurance sent her a copy of my statement the previous Tuesday. After that I can see she is fixating on the fact that the passenger pulled the wheel, and says she needs to speak to her supervisor b/c this is not a typical claim. I called back the next day, only to find out she was out of the office for the next 2 days. Nice of her to tell me that. I called again the day she returned and she says she sent her recommendation to her supervisor. I ask her to tell me what her recommendation was, and she refuses to, by which I can infer that she's trying to deny liability. Basically she's trying to blame the passenger. I understand that the passenger was certainly involved, and if they want to go after the passenger to reimburse them, that's up to them, but as far as I am concerned, it was their insured, and his car that damaged mine, and they need to fix my car. Even if you lend your car to someone and they get into an accident, you are still liable, even if you aren't in the car! So, how can the driver not be responsible when he is sitting in the driver seat with his hands on the wheel? (And remember the policemen at the scene didn't get the passenger's insurance information. And they were aware that she pulled the wheel). My insurance agent says he's talked to everyone, and no one thinks they have a leg to stand on. It seems very simple and straightforward, but instead, I am kept waiting being told that the "supervisor" is still "reviewing" my case b/c it's "complicated". I have never understood the full extent of the notion that insurance companies operate on the 3 D's of Deny, Delay, and Defend, but I understand it all too well now. She keeps trying to get me to make a claim on my own insurance. I'm sure, so that once they pay, Pemco will come up with some excuse not to repay us. You might like Pemco as the insured if you get good rates, but if you have any kind of conscience where you want to take responsibility for taking care of someone else you harmed (i.e cause an accident to), you will not want Pemco respresenting you. The irony is that the girlfriend was trying to reassure me after the accident about my car, telling me that the guy had insurance....good insurance. Apparently not. read more

I've been with these guys almost 20 years, literally claimed nothing, and yet they jacked my rates 20% this last year. My credit is spotless, the car is somewhat old, but fine, and I'm not driving for work. It's like I'm literally giving them money to play with. After my parents' 47 years of continuous coverage from PEMCO with no claims at the home I grew up in, I purchased their home. I have had PEMCO for 31 continuous years for autos, rentals and homes. PEMCO required us to have the roof certified for a minimum of 5 years or have it replaced. We replaced the roof with the same roof type it has had for 47 years and the type of roofing that is recommended for the pitch of roof we have. $10,000 later, PEMCO informed us they won't insure the type of roof we replaced, claiming they didn't know our house had this roofing material. read more

Reading so many negative reviews about Pemco is confusing me. My husband and I have had car, motorhome, and home insurance with them for several years and been very happy with the customer service. We've quickly gotten prorated refund checks when selling cars. We haven't had any tickets or claims, though. We did leave them for Costco, thinking to save money, but never got started with that because the company gave us a hard time for weeks about how far we lived from the fire station (not far).
