There used to be two major Daily Newspapers in Dallas. The Dallas Times Herald which was an…read moreafternoon paper and the Dallas morning news. Then the owners of the LA times rolled into town in the 1960s with a ton O cash and bought the Times Herald. 15 years later and a newspaper war and the Times Herald closed its doors after 112 years! That left the Dallas Morning News which was traditionally a conservative paper read by the upper crust of Dallas(and those that wanted to be). I was a faithful reader of the Sunday paper for decades. I love chilling out on Sunday taking my time all morning with the paper. It was so thick It took 1/2 a day. Then the digital age arrived and newspapers have slowly gone the way of the dino. I quit reading the Dallas Morning news completely about 10 years ago. There just wasn't much in there and the price had increased to $2.00. Recently, my youngest daughter gave me a subscription to the Wall Street Journal for fathers day. It's an old school doorstep delivery and I love it. With that came the unexpected Sunday delivery of the Dallas Morning news. I was shocked when I opened it for the first time. It has actually kicked its game back up and seems relevant. Interesting news both locally and nationally. What? When did this happen? I've been very happy with it and glad I rediscovered the Morning news.

Mostly late deliveries. Who wants to read a morning paper when you get home from work that evening. When I complained that my credits for missing or late papers didn't reflect the credits on my monthly bill, the paper's customer service told me that credits are applied to the end of the subscription life. I have received the paper for 9 years and have not canceled my subscription, so how does extending the subscription life do me any good. It is just lip service. If you can get your news another way I would look into that.

We checked out the young reader section and the displays in the children's area. Since school is starting soon, we didn't buy anything this trip. They pointed out some books that they had read over the summer. They found a cute Pusheen (stuffie cat) that is exclusive to Barnes & Noble. But, the price was pretty pricey for a stuffie. I'm sure if we have a book on our shopping list and we are in this area, we might stop in again.

Today was my first time to go to the Stonebriar Mall Barnes & Noble store, and I was impressed with…read moretheir selections. It's one of the biggest B&N stores I have been to so far. The children's area had the most toys I've ever seen at any of these places. And even thought it's large, I saw things that remind me of what a thoughtful bookstore should have in it. Children sitting on benches reading and laughing. Teens talking about the books they're buying and looking forward to reading that story. And adults having fun with their children. And I must say, isn't that what a bookstore should be about? Laughter, imagination, excitement to read. It truly made my heart happy to see and feel their joy as I walked through the book isles. There's a B&N store close to my house, and I never see or feel what I experienced at this store. That speaks volumes to me. And yes, I bought a book. Every year I look for that special Halloween book I can share with my granddaughter. Today I added the children's book, "We Are Already Haunting Here" by Gideon Stere. I can't wait to share it with her!

I love books. I enjoy reading several different genres so I don't mind going to the store and browsing. What I don't understand why the store will not price reduce on the books THEY know they can. Also many of the popular authors why you're not keeping hard backed and paperback in stocked yet 3 stacks or rows of science fiction? really? Plus, I didn't appreciate the sales pressure to join Your Book Club!!! I have not saved any money. Which takes me to the second problem with Books a Million online order and shipping. My experience was this. I ordered a particular book because it was not available in your store. Was promised delivery in 2 days. After 10 days, I finally sent email to cancel. The reply back was unable due to my order was processed and in route. 2 days after THAT reply I received A BOOK. But not the book I ordered!!!!!!! Not great service. I'm done. Do I recommend? I'm only providing information that happened here. Buyer beware is my recommendation

The cashier would not cancel and start over so she could use the card. It's amazing how quickly a business can lose a good customer.
