I really owe Penelope's an updated review. I know I gave 5 stars last time, but they are even more so deserving now. Dex had major surgery and I was ridiculously nervous about taking him in to get groomed. I waited 6 months after surgery (8 months since his last cut!) and finally decided his mess of fur needed some serious help. Penelope's Parlor to the rescue (again)! They seriously worked magic on him and he came out looking great and I know he was in the best of hands. They put down a mat for his bath, so he didn't slip around and put towels under his feet while doing the cut. I can't explain how much I appreciate the little things they do here. They always remember Dex and the next time I came in she asked how he was doing and remembered all the details about how he needs traction under his feet. They really are great and gentle here and I highly recommend Penelope's if your pup needs a haircut! read more

Happy cat! What I thought my cat had wrong with his coat, luckily I was very much mistaken. I took him to Penelope's parlor, and they were able to save his entire coat! They were very efficient and had my kitty cat done within 20 minutes! That makes for a happy cat who doesn't have to be away from home for very long. This review is long overdue. I've been taking my two dogs to Penelopes Parlor for years. I have two 15 year old dogs a poodle and a poodle mix. My poodle can no longer stand/walk on his own and he's in a diaper. Most groomers wouldn't deal with him, but Lennetta said it was no problem and they would go slow with him and let him lay on his side. Miguel who works there is very friendly and knowledgeable. You can tell they both really like animals. I feel like my dogs are in good hands and they always come back looking great. read more

I took my heavily matted rag doll cat to Penelope's for a haircut. He had never been to the groomers and can be a little temperamental but to my surprise he did amazing. I have to thank the staff for handling Buster with such care. Don't believe everything you read in negative posts, people do make mistakes but immature owners, with too much free time, need to relax. So these guys are a bit on the expensive side. On the plus side, my dogs came out exactly as I had requested. They were very careful with the one who had back issues. They did certainly use hypoallergenic shampoo on the skin-sensitive one. I can tell. I might be inclined to pay the higher prices for the personalized and friendly service. Side note: they are located literally one door away, in the same building, as a veterinary hospital. So (let's face it accidents happen) if your pet needed immediate medical care (knock on wood), he or she can just be walked next door to be seen by a vet. read more

They pay close attention to detail, and my little doggy always looks amazing when I get him back. Only downside is that they don't take appointments, so get there at 8:20am and start waiting in line to get your dog in. They actually open at 8:30am also. I've been coming here for six years and had the best experience yesterday that warranted a five star Yelp review. Was seriously so impressed with their service yesterday, from the moment of drop off to the moment of pick up. They share a parking lot with Newport Harbor Animal Hospital so parking can get a bit tight at busier times, but due to COVID they have their own spaces clearly marked. Once I pulled in someone came out to greet me and ask how they can help. WOW! Seriously so impressed, especially as I was trying to find the number on Yelp to call them (requirement due to COVID) and they beat me to it! Drop off was a snap and my two dogs (GSD and boxer mix) were done in 5 hours. My dogs came out smelling great, nails trimmed, the works and the associates who helped me gave me a recap of how they behaved. Though my dogs were rambunctious they said it with a smile and said they were all good. I can feel the genuineness and smiles from behind the masks. I found this little gem on yelp and took my teacup Maltese Stella here about a week ago. I typically get her hair done in San Diego where I'm from but with no trip in the foreseeable future and girlfriend unable to see, I figured time to give local another shot. I am so impressed with the cut! When I first called and spoke to the owner I had expressed concern that I like her hair cut a certain way and she assured me that they would do exactly what I wanted. I dropped Stella off, 3 hours later she was done as promised and looking beautiful. Only thing that was a little strange is when I came to pick her up, there was an employee sitting with her back turned in the little "office" area for drop off and pick up. She wouldn't turn around and acknowledge me whatsoever. Maybe she was on her lunch? Who knows. Instead, one of the groomers in the back saw me through the window and came out to check me out. Amazing groomers, customer service, and the owner is so kind. I have an Australian Labradoodle and I am very particular about her cut. I unfortunately had a terrible experience with another groomer the other day (just a few days before Christmas) and my doodle's haircut was completely butchered (uneven cut, tail was left matted, nails were not cut, etc.). I knew it might be a long shot since Christmas is just a few days away, but I called Penelope's today to see if they could squeeze my doodle in and help salvage the cut, if at all possible. Understandably so, they initially told me that their schedule was packed. However, within a few minutes, the owner, who I have never met before, called me back and said that she wanted to help and would do whatever she could to fix the cut. I brought in my doodle just a few hours later and she completely fixed the cut -- she evened out the fur, rounded out the head and ears, clipped the nails, got the mats out of the tail, and more. My dog looks SO much better and the staff at Penelope's clearly understands how to groom doodles. This is what amazing customer service is all about and I am so grateful! I will only be bringing my dog here moving forward and am so grateful to the owner and the rest of the staff for being so understanding of my situation and squeezing my dog into their very busy schedule just a few days before Christmas, especially when they had never met us before!!! This place is the best! My cat is pretty aggressive when it comes to going to the vet/groomer. I wanted to cut/shave his mats out myself to avoid stressing him out but unfortunately he had too many mats for me to handle. Newport Harbor Animal Hospital prescribed a sedative for Smokey and I worked with Miguel at Penelopes to make sure we got him there in time before the sedatives wore off. Miguel did such a fantastic job!!!! Even on a time crunch he got all his hard to get mats out. Smokey is literally a much happier cat now because those mats are out. Poor baby, those mats were really hurting him. Thank you to everyone (esp Miguel!) for putting up with my a$$hole cat and making him feel better. read more

We took the dogs there about a month ago. We asked to get ONE of our dogs ears trimmed. They instead cut the other one's ears. They also cut her whiskers completely off!!! Again, ITS BEEN A MONTH. They haven't grown back at all. My dogs were traumatized and so were me and my family. read more

Lenetta and Miguel are the best groomers ever! We have 2 elderly dogs, Sofee and Saydee, who have been turned away by several groomers in the past. Sofee is terrified of being groomed and won't allow anyone to touch her. And Saydee has a difficult time standing along with doggie dementia. They are both quite challenging, but when we explained the issues to Lenetta she said it wouldn't be a problem. She successfully groomed both of them beautifully which is a miracle in itself. And they are so kind and understanding which makes it a wonderful experience all around. Updated review because the owner or someone from there threatened to sue me :) so we drop our pup off at 12, it takes until about 4, they completely butchered my dogs nails. The quick was cut and his paw was bleeding, one nail on one paw wasn't even cut, they were all jagged and pieces were falling off. They did off to fix it and give us 50 percent off, but to be honest who would want to bring their dog back to a place that just messed up nails and have them fix it. We will not be pushed around by a place that did an horrible job on our pup. read more

I don't know about you, but in my next life, I want to come back as my own dog. Yeah, she's a princess. And every pet we've ever owned has been equally "royal". But, for now, this is just about Princess Ellie. Our little girl is a shelter rescue. As such, she's a bit skittish and doesn't warm up to people very easily. In fact, she's afraid of her own shadow. I worried about bringing her to a groomer. But I didn't have much of a choice because she's a Chow mix. She's got thick black hair with a thick, furry undercoat. Not easily managed, and miserable in the summer. The truth is, once you get past the beautiful topcoat, that undercarriage is a pain that I don't wanna deal with. But I know I wouldn't want to wear a black fur coat in a Southern California summer. So I'm certainly not gonna make my dog wear one either. I'm nice like that. Well, that was 6 years ago. I don't worry about it anymore. You see, Lenetta and her staff over at Penelope's Parlor are absolutely wonderful. Soft-spoken and gentle, Lenetta always makes me feel like my baby girl is in the right place (whether she wants to be or not!). They also understand that with some of her shelter-induced "issues", the less time she has to spend in a kennel, the better. So they always let me bring her first thing, and they always get her back to me quickly. They're kind, and thorough and patient. Our girl has always come back to us happy, bouncy, clean, and beautiful. She even has pep in her step, like she knows she's looking fine. I can't give a more glowing review than to say that I trust my dog (who trusts me) with the gang at Penelope's Parlor, and I tell all my pet-loving friends who are looking for a groomer that they couldn't find a better place to get their four-legged child cleaned up. I haven't came back since 1-2 months ago. The reason for why I haven't came back is because I felt over charged. Not only that I saw how they treated my cat when they got her in the last time. I never really knew how they took care of her until I had to see it with my own eyes. (I've been taking her here for over a year) I felt helpless since this was the only groomers who took cats near me. But my cousin recommended me to a animal hospital by her work. (Which is super close to my house)They took such good care of her. They didn't even have to cover her face like Penelopes Parlor did. I even watched just because I wanted to make sure they were actually going to be good to her. Not only that I was charged only $25 at the VET office!! They over charge here at Penelopes Parlor!! They would charge me 55 sometimes 65-70. Come on now?? For a simple bath for my cat. :/ I'm happy I didn't even up taking my puppy here. I ended up saving a lot of money where I go now. read more

SO grateful for everyone at Penelopes Parlor! I brought in my 14 yr old, blind and deaf Shih tzu (Mogli) in who was in desperate need a of hair cut. With Mogli's age and sensory deficits he can be a little challenging to say the very least. As you might guess it can be difficult finding a groomer that is willing to work with a dog that is aggressive and is hard to manage.
