It had been a couple months since I last played Poplar because I was avoiding it after they punched…read moretheir greens back in March. Fast forward a couple months and the greens are fully healed and in amazing shape for a local muni. Honestly, some of the best greens I've played on a public course in the Bay Area. The best part is that it's still affordable compared to other public courses. I played a round with my dad and lifelong friend this past weekend. It was a holiday weekend and we didn't have a tee time on Thursday, but I kept checking back on the website and was able to book a sunday tee time at 8:30AM. We checked-in and the course was empty-ish and was able to tee off 15 minutes early. We didn't have a single play with us so it ended up being a great round with just the 3 of us. While the greens are good, there are some dead spots in the fairways from all the rain that came over the winter but overall still in great shape. Poplar Creek is the golf course where you go for an ego boost because they have so many driveable par 4s. The caveat to that is there are a lot of tough par 3s. Pretty much all the par 5s are reachable in 2, so there's birdies to be had all over the course. My personal best here is 67 with 6 birdies! The prices increased since lasts year. Weekday is $45 and Weekend is $62. Either way, still very affordable by Bay Area golf standards. The course is very walkable as it's super flat. Looking forward to playing many rounds out here over the summer!

Greens were very good today. Firm and getting fast with all this sun recently after pouring rain…read morejust a couple of weeks ago!! The course is drying out and almost back to the forgiving fairways I'm used to, but I have to say that the rough over the last 2-3 rounds I've played here since those rains has been a little thicker than I'm used to...but I actually like it! Makes the course more interesting and challenging. Maybe I'm a masochist but I also kind of liked some of those big ponds that were out there right after the heavy rains...definitely made you focus more on driving accuracy vs just bombing away (but it would be nice to put a warning flag or something on a few holes where those ponds are hidden (like on #1, #10 and #14)...nothing worse than hitting what you thought was a great tee shot only to find out you lost your ball in a huge pool of standing water you could not see from the tee box or fairway (no penalty but cost me a $4 premium ball a few times!). It's also taken awhile to fix the driving range fence (going on about 2-3 months now) so that's a bit disappointing (I heard it will be ready by April 1 though)...however, the short game practice area is one of the better ones in the area for a public course (it's free if you're playing a round that day). What I do miss is the Par-3 Restaurant and Snack Bar. Hope they sort out that messy situation soon and get another great proprieter in there soon. Anyway, you can't beat the price here, especially on a weekday! It's my go to course when I need to work on my game and build up my confidence!!

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

I've been a member at Equinox for quite some time and have always had a great experience there…read more Will, my trainer, understood my needs and tailored my training to match my goals. Recently they went above and beyond. I had an injury early last year and couldn't work out. I kept telling myself that I'll be back Equinox next month. After six months I realized it would be a while till I could come back and wished I had put my membership on hold as I had paid dues for about six months and not used the club. I called the club and spoke to Ethan, the manager, and explained I wanted to put my membership on hold till I could come back. He took a look at my account and saw that I hadn't been at the club in six months and, after getting a doctors letter, gave SIX MONTHS CREDIT. I was flabbergasted. Who does nice things like this any more. I started in early January and won't have to pay dues until July. Ethan, Will and all the other staff are amazing as are the members I have met there. 2026 is off to a great start!!!

Had an absolutely pleasant fitting experience with Don McCleary at CC, and I would highly recommend…read morefor anyone to work with Don for club fitting. Don is very knowledgable and was super patient to work with my inconsistency in swings to find the best fit given my needs. My goal was to find a setup that would improve height and spin so that I could get the balls to stop quicker on the green. Don helped tremendously to identify issues in my swings that caused balls to continue rolling, and gave me tips that quickly helped fix the low pull/draw ball shape. I was able to change my swing path from 5-6 degrees inside out to 1-3 degrees outside in to hit fades/baby-fades to get the ball in the air more. In the meantime, Don was able to suggest both iron heads (P790) and shafts (UST Mamiya Quantum) that gave me better consistency and stopping power. While we had a little more time, Don even went out a limb to help me to try some 7 wood heads and shaft to see if I could get stopping power out of that. Don also followed up via email with more suggestions to help me. He's a true gentle man and great expert.

All of the negative things you hear about Club Champion from friends, reddit, and yelp are true. I…read moreread all the reviews and thought I would be different but my experience was the same. I went in for my fitting explaining specifically what I was looking for. I let myself get talked into purchasing some obscure no name shaft that cost more than Ventus & Tour AD. I bought the shafts along with a brand of club heads that I've never liked. I only agreed to purchase the clubs at that 30% markup because I was promised my entire order would be available in less than 2 weeks. I called 3 weeks later and nothing had shipped yet. I immediately went and purchased new clubs to the specs that I wanted knowing I would just sell/donate my CC order. My first club arrived 4 weeks later. I hit it one round and then listed it on ebay. 7 weeks later I received the rest of my order. None of the clubs had been adjusted to the "custom fitting specs" that CC sells as reason to buy from them. I listed most of the clubs I got from CC on ebay and donated some other garbage I bought to 2nd tee. These guys lack integrity. Numerous reviews show how they promised the clubs would be available by a certain date but they didn't deliver. They order directly from the manufacturer because they don't keep an inventory. They claimed one of the clubs I ordered was back ordered by I could have received it directly from the manufacturer in 7 days and it was in stock in every golf shop. They will say almost anything to close a sale. I was trying to keep track during the fitting but it seemed like my fitter was deleting good swings as needed to skew the numbers of shafts he didn't want me to purchase and then deleting the bad hits with the shaft he wanted me to hit. It sounds crazy but (ONLY) if you make a purchase, they give you your trackman data afterwards. In reviewing the data after, I noticed that although I took 5-10 swings with each shaft, the numbers didn't match up. Some shafts had 2 hits to make the determination it wasn't good, others had 3, 4, 5, 6. It was all over the place, but by deleting good or bad hits, my fitter was able to manipulate the numbers to steer me toward a set up that maximized the cost of my order and his commission. And every one knows they work hard to fit you in obscure, no name shafts that no one on tour uses and not a single golfer has heard of so that you can't purchase your "fitting" at a regular golf store. There is absolutely no reason to buy your clubs from here. These guys remind of used car sales men that act as middle (taking a 30%+ cut) when you could purchase your clubs anywhere else for less. They offer no value whatsoever. You'd be better off getting a real fitting at the Callaway, Titleist, etc. facility and the cost would end up the same.
