a box of fries on a counter

Stopped in here to grab a sub for lunch. Their fries first of all are out of this world! So good. Had to get a large as I knew a small or medium wouldn't cut it. The Italian sub is my favorite. Grilled to perfection. Workers are great. Winner!

Who loves Fresh Cut Fries!?!? Don't forget the Malt Vinegar!! You can't go wrong with most of their subs, and I tend to order the Chicken Teriyaki most often. Fresh squeezed lemonade! Kudos to the staff for keeping up during high demand lunch hours. Service was friendly and fast. Seating is limited inside.

As a diehard Penn station fan, I was super bummed with my latest food delivery. I unwrapped my sandwich to find a hunk of bread with barely 1 artichoke, 2 slices of mushroom, and a quarter sized piece of hard cheese. Even my fries sucked- they were all like the cold, broken bits you usually find at the bottom of the container. I've never had this issue dining in, so I'd recommend avoiding delivery.

After receiving a coupon for free small fries (I posted a picture of it) with the purchase of a sub I made the decision to go for my one weekly Super Caloric Yummy Indulgence to Penn Station. There was only one person inside waiting for his order and a couple pulled up just I got in my car to leave. I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak on white bread with mushrooms, onions and banana peppers with a bit of mayo. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the sub. I haven't actually had a cheesesteak anywhere else in town because if I'm craving one then I go to Penn Station. I love their fries as well - the small is definitely a smaller portion than let's say Five Guys but it's adequate for a small and I love the taste, size of fries and crispyness.

When we arrived, the place was empty. We weren't even sure that they were open until we saw the kitchen staff behind the line. Upon entering, I saw a kiosk where you can place your order, but a woman emerged from the back to take our orders. Being that we weren't familiar with the menu, I told her that the kiosk might be easier. She insisted that it wasn't, and as I went on, I realized the same. The kiosk states that there is a $1.25 charge for the sauce on the side, but she explained that it comes with one sauce free of charge and additional sauces cost extra. We placed our order with her: A small Italian salad to share, the Fatty B calzone with the spicy marinara sauce and the Hot Mother Clucker calzone with the chipotle garlic ranch. We ordered them with the suggested sauces but also order the regular marinara and the garlic sauces on the side. We were given glasses for water (self-serve from the soda fountain) and also ordered a bottled beer and canned cider. By the time we were done ordering, a line had formed. The store was understaffed, which was explained to us later, so we had to exercise patience. We didn't receive our beverages until after the calzones were delivered. Before that, we received our rather large, small salad. It was more than enough for two people. The woman had explained to us that it comes with 4 cups of lettuce plus the toppings. That information helped us make our decision to share. The space is large and we noticed cornhole boards to be used on the patio. Unfortunately, it was raining when we went, otherwise we would have played. The calzones were good and filling. Neither of us finished ours and had food to enjoy at home later that evening. The Hot Mother Clucker isn't very pizza-esque, but dipping it into marinara sort of brought it back into the fold. The suggested chipotle garlic ranch was a better pairing indeed. The salad bowl/plate is oddly shaped, which caused toppings to being spilling off the sides. When it was brought to our table, the woman tried saving the toppings by wedging them between the order slip and her fingers and dumping them back onto our plate. I stopped her. I wasn't trying to be rude, but I don't want to eat food that a stranger's hands have touched. I explained this to her. She tried to assure us that she washes her hands constantly throughout the day, but she'd just come over from the register without a handwashing break. Just let the toppings fall where they may! Let's keep it hygienic.

In a panic I went back to the store as we had 16 people coming for dinner with the intention of buying the green beans. Sammy could not have been nicer and more helpful and cheerfully said, "Mistakes happen. You keep the baked beans and let us give you your green beans." He really saved the day for us as most of the kids present did not like baked beans. He said, "Have them try them, they'll like them", and they did! We were big fans of City BBQ before and are even bigger fans now!

Fries were mush not crispy not cooked. Basically got smashed potatoes. They can't cook fries like how hard is that. And the ribs, if very talking portion size for the cost, they are robbing customers for 2.99 a rib they think that's acceptable. I call from home saying I'm coming back for new fries bringing the fries with me to show them. Tell them go ahead and make a new order of fries when I'm down there. Get there, haven't started the fries.... So waiting for a new order, they bring me less amount of fries than what I brought in. So I'm stuck there waiting for new fries for the 3rd or 4th time idek. The new evening staff was apologetic but I was just fuming for how long I was waiting.

The Cake Bake Shop is an exception and rightfully so. We have been to the Indianapolis location three times and this is our first visit to the Carmel shop. The atmosphere and glittering decor is whimsical. The service is exceptional. The food, especially the dessert, is exquisite. We celebrated our anniversary with crab beignets, Gwendolyn's signature chicken and andouille gumbo, and New Orleans shrimp po' boy with pommes frites. Our young daughters dined in with us so we asked for the Crystal hot sauce to be placed on the side. For dessert, we shared a slice of the celebration cake which had three different cake layers: vanilla cake with chocolate chips, chocolate cake, and vanilla almond confetti cake. The flavors are distinctive and came together with two buttercreams, vanilla almond and strawberry. It was delightful and delicate. However, I am still extremely loyal to my favorite, Gwendolyn's Famous Earl's Court Chocolate Cake. For take-out, we had the chocolate chip cookie with fleur de sel, walnut brownie, birthday macaron, and chocolate caramel macaron. I love dessert but cookies and brownies are generally at the bottom of my list. I generally prefer cake, donuts, ice cream, tarts, and various pastries. But once again, I make the exception for the Cake Bake Shop. My favorite is the walnut brownie because it has a nice, crispy crust and a soft center. It is perfection! It is also worth mentioning that the server sprinkled glitter on my girls' hands and hair so that they could make a wish with the celebration cake. If your young children is into anything sparkly and glittery, this definitely ups the notch to a wonderful and magical lunch experience! Safe to say - The next time we have a road trip in the general area, I am going to include The Cake Bake Shop in the itinerary.
