We came to city BBQ, which we do a lot! We like coming on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Mondays, you get double points in the reward program. On Tuesdays, you get a discount on ribs. Today was neither day. But we have always wanted to try their chili so we thought we would give it a go. It sounded good on a cold day. Unfortunately, we would not recommend it. For a bowl, which was a small bowl in our opinion, it was almost $10. If you got a side and a drink with it, the price is around $15. A bit expensive in our opinion. For the price, at least, the chili was made with brisket rather than ground beef. It was OK. We went to the ice sculptures in downtown Carmel a while ago. The various caramel fire stations were having a chili cookoff. Thank you fireman for your service! You are also very good cooks! One fireman had a brisket chili which was fabulous! In fact, in our opinion, it was much better than City BBQs. As mentioned, we love City BBQ. However, go for the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Not the chili. And for a discount, remember to go on a Monday or a Tuesday.

Great staff and service! The three meat combo was fantastic and priced well! The bbq sauces were all great and I enjoyed the gold so much I bought a bottle.

This bbq food was amazing!! The sides were delicious too and there was plenty of seating inside and outside. I substituted a meat and they messed up my order but had no problem switching it back out quick for me and were very kind! Great chain for good bbq food!

Have you tried the pork belly? This is a must. I love it ! 10/10 My comfort protein meal is always gonna be here. This location is good. Never too crowded for me (dinner most of the time - weekday)

I've been here several times and it's usually decent. The food comes quickly and it is ok. This visit the greens were a a little off. Just really salty like they had been there awhile. The brisket is good as is the pulled pork. The sausage is decent too. Sometimes the brisket is a little loose. The service is counter style and you take your tray to a seat. I find the service friendly and efficient. They restaurant is clean sometimes the sauce station is a little un tidy.

I was craving barbecue and decided to stop at City Barbeque. I ordered the party pack for 4 to 6 people and a brisket sandwich to go. They had my order up in about five minutes and I was out the door. Overall, it was a great experience.

The greeter is very pleasant and very helpful too The menu has everything you could ask for at a bar b q chain. Service is quick and efficient. The brisket sandwich was a good proportion and quite flavorful. I'm not a fan of how the brisket is basically chopped not sliced. The Mac and cheese is good but not great. Just lacks some flavor.

City Barbeque is always a great dining experience. Friendly service at the Carmel location, great food and a nice and casual ambience. Tonight's trip included a full rack of ribs & the juiciest turkey sandwich I've ever had!! And we got great 1999-era pricing on their special anniversary day menu (9/25/24). Definitely will get that turkey again, it was delicious!!

We really enjoy coming here following the smoked brisket. A big shout out to Austin who is always so good to us when we come in.

I decided I was in the mood for City BBQ for dinner tonight because I have always enjoyed the food from City BBQ. As always, it did not disappoint me at all. I ordered the pulled Chicken with Provolone cheese, no bun, with a side of potato salad and hush puppies. It was excellent and my perfect comfort food for the evening. City BBQ provides excellent BBQ and sauces, plus they know how to prepare barbecue to perfection! Their customer service is always on point and they treat everyone that comes through the door with kindness and care. This is my #1 go to place for barbecue whenever I am in the mood for BBQ for dinner because it is just prepared with such love and generosity to your taste buds. You will never go wrong with City Barbecue, so go out and get some BBQ from them one night for dinner. It is worth it!

I can't believe that I haven't reviewed City Barbecue yet, as I stop by here on a fairly regular basis. Prior to COVID, I had dined inside but during COVID I have taken advantage of their excellent curbside carry out. Service is always great and the food is excellent. City BBQ is perfect whether I am picking up a quick lunch for myself or ordering for a large group. My favorite lunch order is the three sides plate. Their sides are all so delicious that I have trouble deciding which ones to choose. Home style potato salad, green beans, corn casserole, slaw, and many more all taste like they came out of my grandmother's kitchen. The French fries are served hot and fresh and are some of my favorite fries. Try dipping them in BBQ sauce.

Mac N Cheese with a hideous long hair in it....

Tried calling the location and it's all automated... my wife's meal and appetite ruined...

The food did not taste fresh. The barbecue chicken and brisket were so dry like they were sitting out. Not good. The sides were fine.

The menu is a mix of bbq, soul and Southern style cooking. Cornbread, green beans, peach cobbler, etc., included. I had the bbq loaded baked potato with bbq beef brisket. The brisket is amazingly tender and moist. The potato was smothered in cheese, onions, jalapeños and bacon. Yum. The bbq sauces are very tasty. I had the tangy sauce which had a kick to it. My husband had the pork tenderloin sandwich. The pork was hand prepped and breaded and very good. The Sidewinder fries are the BEST in Indy area - hands down and the portion is generous. Everyone was stealing his fries. My granddaughter had the Kid's pork bbq slider with Mac and cheese. She also devoured a corn muffin. She loved her meal. Others had the Pork Bbq sandwich combo with backed beans. The beans are freshly prepared and crave worthy. Pork sandwiches had a generous amount of moist pulled pork. We ordered at the counter and food is prepared fresh so there's a bit of a wait during dinner hour. About half people get their food to go. Prices are reasonable - especially desserts. The dining area is small - maybe five tables. Seating is tight. The patio area outside is nice if the Indiana weather cooperates. I love this place.

However, in planning the meal it had inadvertently been overlooked that Pizzology didn't open until 4pm. So, making a quick change of plans meant that we stopped in at Rackz almost directly in front of the Pizzology building. In case it's not obvious, this is a BBQ joint. There's accessible parking, an appropriate curb-cut, and the entryway is a pretty easy to maneuver one-sided glass door that is level to the ground. I found the interior to be a pretty good layout. There's also outside dining that's available when the weather is appropriate. The menu is consistent with most BBQ joints. Rackz offers both dinners (two sides and drink plus meat) or sandwich combos (only one side). The price range is generally in the $10-20 range, though they also offer some family-style options that go higher. So, we're talking BBQ, pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, ribs, and there's even a breaded tenderloin sandwich. They also have a "veggie BBQ dinner." Don't ask me, but it's on the menu. Sides are creative ranging from sidewinder fries to potato salad, mac n' cheese, baked beans, glazed carrots (which I got the chance to try from a fellow diner - I really did like these), and a few other items. I was honestly very impressed with the menu. They also have kids meals and a couple of different Wick's Pies (the classic sugar cream and pecan). I opted for pulled chicken sandwich with sidewinder fries. As we know, I always get iced tea. I really wanted to go for the breaded tenderloin, but I had a full afternoon and that's a splurge for me. However, I was super happy with this meal and would easily order it again. Employees are friendly. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Rackz also offers catering and they do have a rewards program. While this is a bit out of my way, I'd easily return when in the area.

The BBQ poutine fries were so big on the tray that I felt a little ostentatious as I was carrying the tray back to my table. It felt like all of the food on my tray surely should have been going to a family. But no: All of these BBQ poutine fries were just for one gluttonous person (me). Every so often, I would get an enormous fry that was way bigger than the others. It was more like a steak fry! It was like a little baked potato. It was nice to have that variety in the appetizer (which I was treating like an entree because, again, I was eating this giant appetizer by myself without shame). One of my children opted to get the kids meal here, which is the mac & cheese with a side (he chose fries). The mac & cheese is cavatappi pasta, so it's that pleasing curly texture that kids love (my kid loved it). I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.

So many options it almost stressed me out, in the best way! I finally landed on the Aloha Special Plate with Hawaiian BBQ Chicken + Chicken Katsu, upgraded my rice to fried rice, and it also came with the mac salad and veggies. Now when I opened that container... BABY. The portions?! Generous is an understatement. They did not come to play! The BBQ chicken was sweet, savory, and full of flavor. The chicken katsu? Crispy, golden perfection. Like... exactly what you want it to be. The macaroni salad was also hitting... creamy, flavorful, no complaints there. Only thing that fell a little flat for me was the rice, it just needed a bit more flavor. But honestly, everything else made up for it. The cooking is not as authentic however it is generous and it is fresh tasting. For example, the beef plate I believe had some type of seasoning on it. That gave it a flavor that is not exactly authentic. So I would recommend laying off the seasoning. The Katsu sauce, which is self service is also legitimate as as the teriyaki sauce. I would definitely come back here again however I also learned that there are other similar Hawaiian barbecue spots in the Carmel fishers Indianapolis area that I would also definitely want to check out and compare.
