My significant other likes Penn Station subs and they never were my favorite, but my most recent experience put them back on the map. I loved my warm Italian sub. The small was a good size portion for me and it had great flavor. I am not a huge fan of their fries because I like them a little more crispy. I ADORE fresh cut and fried French fries. The only reason I decided to visit Penn Station a second time. I vow it will be my last. The fries were perfect as they should be and you can always expect. I can no longer frequent restaurants that do not see me as a fellow human. I was not greeted. Employees argued about how my order was taken, no toilet paper in the bathroom. I was lucky to get out of the vibe the same as I entered. I'm guessing the franchisee is losing touch. So overall value is one star, excellent product one star. Stars refused for staff experience, mood, and bathroom condition. In the future I will stick to my usual places, Moriarties Pub on Michigan Avenue or Dagwoods. read more

Penn Station always has great steak sandwiches and fries. I love malt vinegar and the fact that they have it is an added plus. The fries are crispy like I prefer. The bread is crisp and airy, similar to a baguette but less chew. I get my steak sandwiches with the onions and mushrooms and mayo with banana peppers on the side. I want to try something different but this PA girl can't resist the steak sammie. Yes, it's not traditional but it's one version I really like. There's also something I enjoy about their cookies, like they're rolled and folded. Anyway, can't resist them any time I visit and I usually don't get cookies for dessert regularly. The lemonade is a nice departure from soda and it's like fresh squeezed. The service I receive at this location is always great but I have to say, John displays exemplary customer service skills anytime we visit and he is there. Bottom line, do yourself a favor and stop in when you want a good sandwich. We stopped here on Sat this past week. This was our first time going here. We did not know what to expect so we ordered t 10" subs and a large fry. WOW. What a meal! I ordered a steak and onion and my wife ordered the sausage and onion. We did not finish the fries, my wife didnt finish her sub. The food was great and the service was just as good. I'm not one to get too excited about sandwiches but this was outstanding! My husband and I decided to try this for lunch, after seeing the line at Qdoba. Fresh cut fries - need I say more? Nearly the best I've ever had - very crisp on the outside but not burnt. And they provide malted vinegar - a must! The grilled veggies are awesome - onions, banana peppers - I was thrilled. My husband had the reuben and was very pleased with it - though he might have been more impressed with my veggie. The spicy mustard was amazing as well. We will most definitely be back. My sub and lemon-aid did not taste the same as they did during my last visit...the lemon-aid previously was very sour...watered-down this time...cheese-steak was good but it was not how I remembered. Food was good and staff was friendly. Only leaving three stars because the manager was yelling at her staff my entire visit. I believe they were in training, but there are more tactful ways to correct the staff without embarrassing them and creating an awkward dining experience for customers. I felt so bad for the staff. The food is very good! It is arguably the best Philly cheesesteak in Lansing area. I would recommend getting your philly with mushroom, sauteed onions, yellow peppers, and mayo. The staff could be friendlier. It is usually busy during lunchtime. You should go there for dinner if you want something quick and delicious. Ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, and while I was hanging out waiting for my order near the cash register, I noticed the checkout dude/fresh toppings adder not wearing gloves. Even worse, he paused in his topping work to ring up a customer (not me thank god), and DISGUSTINGLY go right back to adding fresh toppings! EWWWW! This is a HEALTH CODE VIOLATION! And I'm calling the Health Department. There's no sink in the food prep area, so hands are not washed after handling the cash register/money (which we all know know is filthy). I was just glad my sandwich had no fresh toppings, and was all grilled up with no fresh toppings. The food tasted fresh. Looked fresh. I knocked a star, only because the person whom I'm assuming was a manager, told the other worker "that just lost me money, never hand a customer their sandwich until they pay," when a customer walked out without paying. Been there two times. First time had a club that was delicious, especially the bread...best bread roll in Lansing. Service was S L O W. Second time had a cheese steak and was not impressed. Ordered extra meat and still got jipped on the meat. I ordered it with all their recommended condiments - BIG mistake. Mustard and pizza sauce do not go together and made the sandwich a sloppy mess. Again service was S L O W. So far I rate it as average and will try it one more time to make my final decision on this place.
