The cheesesteak was a bit to spicy with pepper but I love the bun, sautéed onions and mushroom. Nothing better than hand cut fries !!! Good lunch !!

Cheesesteak sub with mushrooms, onions, and mayo. Medium fries

We haven't been here in a while, and I was craving a cheesesteak sub. We debated between here and the new Jersey Mike's down the street (which we've yet to try) but Penn Station won out because they have fries and chips, where Jersey Mike's only has chips. They both serve Pepsi products, so if you're a Coca Cola fan (like we are), know that going in there. But the kiddo wanted fries, so Penn Station won out. The sub was awesome. It was freshly made to order and hot. The fries were also made to order and hot. The food was restaurant-quality hot, not fast-food-quality hot. I was going to take half of the sub home to reheat later in the day, but it was so good that I ate it all and left feeling miserable (but a good miserable). I left completely satisfied with the choice we'd made today. It was a good lunch.

We were out in Monroeville for some errands and needed to order lunch so we thought we'd check this place out. They have an online ordering system that works great up until you pay. Then, things go sideways. We were just not sure if the payment/order went through. It kept erroring out but it seemed like it took the payment. Super frustrating. So we called and were placed on hold for 10 minutes. Granted it was around 11:45AM so prime lunch rush but no one wants to be put on hold for 10 minutes. We hung up and called back and before he could say, mind holding?, I blurted out what our issue was. Sure enough, the order had gone through! We picked everything up and took it home to eat. Their cheesesteak hoagies are jammed full of meat and we got onions, peppers and mushrooms and provolone cheese. My main beef here (no pun intended) is that these have so much meat, the hoagie is SCREAMING for balance like tomatoes and lettuce or something. It's almost too meaty? I mean, I love meat on my cheesesteak but it needs something. Same thing on the Italian Hoagie - a ton of delicious meat but not enough balance. Their hoagie loaves are the perfect size and not too bready. Their fries were decent but we seemed to get a lot of skinny "ends" of the potatoes and not many thicker fries. But they were tasty for sure. Everyone that works there was super friendly and helpful once we got through and picked up the order. I'm adding a star for that.

Easily the best cheesesteak in the area. I'm a larger fan of Jersey Mike's, but Penn Station's service blows me away. Their cookies are fantastic as well, firm but delicious. Pricing is perfectly reasonable and the environment is welcoming. Definitely worth a try!

Best sub I have ever had!! Highly recommend if you are in town and need a quick bite to eat.

What's for dinner? (January 9, 2020) Italian hoagie with extra extra extra lettuce & some fries!!! Sandwich specs: It's always good @ this location. I got the medium (they use to just call it an 8in). The lettuce was crisp & not questionably wet. No complaints! Fries specs: One of my favorite places to get fries. They a cooked just right. Not soggy & not burnt! No complaints! Bon appetite'!!!‍ I forgot to take pictures until the end!! ‍ Hers's what I have..

They use a brown mustard sauce but you are able to choose  your own dressing.

Fast ,convenient and very satisfying . They feature a variety of sub choices and toppings. I took home a menu to look over and I am curious to try out the grilled artichoke sub the next time I stop in. Tonight I ordered the steak hoagie and originally skipped the fries but gave in and ended up adding a small fry much to my delight. The staff is very courteous and helpful and they were able to keep the orders moving for their customers dining in and those calling in for pick up.

A dry Chicken Teriyaki sub with hardly no teriyaki dressing.

They were a little busy but when I ordered I wasn't asked for here or take out so my food came in a bag. The sandwich was dry and quickly thrown together. One chopped piece of onion no vegetables and extremely dry. The downtown location isn't bad but this Monroeville location I will never visit again and do not recommend it. For 21.15 it was not worth it at all. The fountain drink was the best part of the meal.

First impression was that the color scheme, decorations, and menu all seemed to be dated and uninspired. The staff were polite and attentive. I ordered the salad and Salmon Oscar. The salad was good and the blue cheese dressing I chose was house-made. It was good. My girlfriend got the wedge salad which I think was a bit expensive since it was a $6 up charge for a wedge of iceberg lettuce from the standard salad that came with the entrees. My Salmon Oscar with asparagus was very good. I enjoyed every bite of the salmon and crab. My daughter's chicken parm came with a ton of linguini. My girlfriend got the signature crab cakes which she said were mostly crab and not filler. So while I thought the menu was dated when reading it the food was well executed.

My wedding soup and my husband's French onion soup were delicious. The wedding soup was loaded with meatballs and chicken. My husband has a thing for French onion soup and tries it every chance he gets. He said this may have been the best ever. We split a Reuben sandwich and upgraded to onion rings. The waitress brought us each a half portion so we didn't have to divide it ourselves, which was nice. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich, making it acceptable, not great but good enough. Onion rings were very good. Dessert sounded tempting, a cherry crème brûlée. It was okay, kind of like cherry jello with a sugar crust on top. A bit disappointing to say the least. Our waitress was on top of filling the water glasses and was very nice. Now for the bad news and why I'm only giving 3 stars. I went to the ladies room before eating and there was no hot water to wash my hands. I asked my husband if the men's room had hot water and he said no. We both let it run but it never got hot, not even warm. Then I noticed (after drinking several glasses of water unfortunately) that there was a crack in my water glass. I mentioned it to my husband and he said, "you should see the chips in the glass tabletop over her on my side". I get it that wear and tear happens, but these things should be caught before serving guests. And as far as the hot water...how do servers and kitchen workers properly clean their hands after using the toilet without hot water? So the food is fairly solid and reasonably priced. But be on the lookout for chipped glassware and table tops. And use your own hand sanitizer if you have it!

I've been craving a big bowl of their tortilla soup and a buffalo chicken sandwich for years. A recent family outing took us to Monroeville and I knew that we had to eat at Max & Erma's since we were in the neighborhood. The inside is a tad 'odd', with seasonal Christmas lights everywhere decorated in a Fourth of July theme. The table was mildly sticky, the booth seat was mildly uncomfortable, and there was a mild smell of dirty dishwater and/or urine at our seats. All-in-all, the restaurant feels tired and judging by the cleaning products and bucket placed on the ice cream bar, it looks like the workers are used to it being that way. It looks remarkably like the Max & Erma's in Cranberry right before it closed its doors. Service was prompt and friendly. No complaints at all. The food was on point and was as great as I remembered it to be. We got 2 quarts of tortilla soup to go so that we could share the nostalgia with our family and they were equally as smitten. I hope this place stays around and that it gets a little refresher. Generations of yinzers need their tortilla soup, buffalo chicken, and let's not forget those unforgettable cookies to go!

And not quite sure if people…read morehave become loyal because of location or because of the specials such as prime rib and really great hearty meals... But I can tell you your breakfast was very traditional. Nothing super exotic or trendy. I'm a Southern girl so I was looking forward to getting country fried steak, gravy and eggs... They're country fried steak is a special that's named after the owner or one of its friends or something... And all it is is steak and gravy... Kind of interesting for a breakfast dish. No eggs. And was one of the most expensive meals so adding eggs would have really put it over the top for breakfast. So I elected to go with a variation of hash browns that I'm accustomed to getting the south from waffle House... Scattered, diced which means tomatoes, and covered which means slice of cheese. Although they restrict the ability to buy beer and wine in grocery stores in Pennsylvania, there is no restriction on when you can get a alcoholic beverage like there is in the south... Bloody Mary with breakfast at 9:00 a.m.. there was a long line to wait for a table so my friend who's the local went to the other entrance for the package store and saw there was ample room at the bar so that's where we went. We split an omelette and got some bacon on the side. The bacon was clearly oven baked and extremely crispy and is barely flavorful. The waitress was nice and attentive at the bar. And she had the southern charm of calling us honey and sweetie even though she was younger than us. My friend says she used to come by there often when her kids were younger or for their weekly specials. It's a large restaurant so plenty of tables in the traditional space. And I guess because of not having extra weight stuff they didn't encourage sitting in the bar... We sat at the bar so had the direct attention of the bartender. You can see from the menu there's lots of options for food which is probably why it's such a popular place.

Circling the small parking lot looking for your spot, reminiscing on the alumni sports team photos on the walls, and doing the twist in the entryway to navigate your way to your takeout, Gateway Grill is not much... but the food is usually fire!!! The pizza slices have big bubbling crusts with pepperoni so rustic cut that you will wonder if they accidentally gave you the whole piece... over and over again. Don't sleep on their meatball pizza. Because you will have basically full size meatballs for every slice... and they are delightful. We had family in and bought a large order - and we opted to try their sandwiches. The Chuck Roast sandwich and Turkey Rachel both sounded delicious... and Gateway Grill does have fresh smoked meats too! Takeout is a trip. In a full restaurant, you have to kinda stand in the way at the front counter and flag down someone to grab your order. But they definitely do a lot of to-go pizzas so you'll be able to handle it. Unfortunately, with their current to-go containers, the sandwiches ended up being sopping wet with condensation... the bottom toasted bread on both was basically dripping instead of crunchy. The fries had lost all texture too- air fryer to the rescue. I'd still recommend going - just stick to only pizza when ordering takeout until they find a way to ensure quality of other options.
