    Mini Corned Beef!
    Amanda s.

It was my first time here. I stopped in on a Saturday lunchtime, and boy, oh boy, was I excited for what was to come! This shop rocked it out! Three young women were running this place lickity split! I ordered a mini Reuben with extra Thousand Island dressing on white with a snack-size fry to go. The sandwich came hot, sizzling off the grill, FILLED with deliciousness that nicely pleased the palette. But let me tell you, the hand-cut fries to die for! OMGOODNESS!!! And with malt vinegar...they are THE BEST fries I have ever had in my entire life! I'm talking better than the fries you get at the fair. These suckers CHEFS KISS! The restaurant itself is understated, with ample setting, clean, and a WONDERFUL staff! There is also plentiful parking out front! I will be back for those fries alone!

Very good subs! But the fries are even better! The customer service is hit or miss though, so that's why they get a four in my book.

I was surprised at how long it took for the 2 hosts to greet us - as we were standing directly in front of them. They were talking to one another, and it was probably work related, but to just stand there staring at them for a couple minutes while they ignored us was awkward. When they finally talked to us they weren't very friendly. Anyway, we made our way to the bar and it was full except for 3 seats. I think the bartender waiting on us was new. He seemed like he was pretty overwhelmed/in the weeds. He greeted us quickly and brought us waters when he did, which I appreciated. I ordered a Blackeberry Bourbon Sour and my Mr had Paloma Nuestra. We both enjoyed our drinks they were refreshing and well crafted. For dinner I had a really hard time deciding! I wanted to try so many things! Our bartender said his favorite thing in the menu is the chicken and rice bowl. That was something I was considering and decided to go with that. Excellent recommendation! The chicken was flavorful and so tender. The hot peppers were a nice touch. There was a lot of food too! I couldn't finish it all. Mr had the hanger steak that was served with mushroom and asparagus risotto. He said the risotto was the best he's ever had, and I agree. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and so was the steak. The space is really nice, felt intimate without being overcrowded. We are looking forward to coming back!

I'm sad I was only in town for one night because I was forced to pick just one item. I decided on the Short Rib Ragu Gnocchi. It was a good choice, but everybody's meals looked great. I tried someone else's Salmon and it was delicious also. 2 people got the hanger steak and gave it 5 stars. The prices were reasonable given the quality, freshness and presentation of our dinners. We got there just before happy hour ended and our server was nice enough to clue us in and we got a few appetizers and drinks before the prices went up. Definitely go if you get a chance. Every bite was that good. You'd never know it was gluten-free--the flavor was incredible and nothing felt like it was missing. Then I somehow made room for cheesecake and finished that too, which says a lot. Same thing there--no way you'd guess it was gluten-free. Overall, they just really know how to do gluten-free right. Nothing felt like a compromise at all. I'd 100% go back.

Diners feel welcome and relaxed the minute they step through the door. We have eaten at tables and at the bar and have had excellent service at both. The bartenders are great conversationalists and will recommend wines and beers and other beverages to go along with meals. Table service is just as good. Waiters and waitresses are patient and discuss options when choosing food and drink, and they will offer samples of beverages if they have them available. This is a great way to decide if the wine or beer or whatever is going to pair nicely. And then there are the meals. Wow! I cannot remember having a bad meal there. Ever. We have been many, many times. There have been meals that did not impress my palette, but they were not bad. That said, I'm sure everyone has a bad day, I just have never experienced that at Linear. Our favorite is the Wagyu flank steak. Always cooked to perfection, the flavors are out of this world. My wife and I have tried nearly everything on the menu and can whole heartedly recommend Linear to everyone who asks if there is a good place to eat in Grand Rapids. The theming is truly off the charts with so many cool things everywhere you look. I've been in both the lower and upper floors of the restaurant and the fun follows all throughout. The food was good and had good portion sizes. The menu has a lot of Hawaiian and Asian flavors represented. The drink menu is massive with a great section of NA mocktails that were really fairly priced. We got drinks and entrees and the entire process took around 45 minutes with me struggling to decide what to order. The service is really attentive without being overbearing. The use of both servers and food runners allowed for the process to be quick while not feeling rushed at all. Our server also gave great recommendations and was helpful throughout the night. While the price of things may feel high, I do think the ambiance was pretty worth the cost and the food was enjoyable! I'd definitely come back.

We had reservations and did have to wait about a half an hour to be seated, but we were brought to a table in an intimate little nook which made the wait worth it. To be honest, you shouldn't have to wait that long when you have reserved a table as a specific time. Russell was our server and greeted us immediately. Other staff members actually brought out the food we ordered but rusted check on us occasionally. He was personable and friendly. We started with cocktails. Hubby had the Penicillin cocktail substituting in bourbon. I had the non-alcoholic Orange Creamsicle. I love that Max's had a few NA options among their huge cocktail list. We shared the wonton nachos as a starter, which had huge cubes of tuna on top the lightest wontons along with wakame, jalapenos, edamame, avocado, and pineapple salsa. Amazing! For dinner hubby had the drunken noodles, black garlic chicken thighs with cabbage, brussels sprouts, carrots and peppers on top of rice noodles with peanut sauce. I tasted his dish, and it was so flavorful and the chicken was very tender. I ordered the tuna poke bowl, sushi rice surrounded by wakame, avocado, carrots, shallots, and edamame then topped with poke sauce. So good! I did have to send it back, though, because the tuna came out with furikake after I told our server that I don't do seeds. The kitchen flubbed up, but they were happy to make my dish seed free. This restaurant was definitely a fun visit and it reminded me of Kon-Tiki-Ports in Chicago. If you're in the Grand Rapids area, I do recommend stopping by for dinner or sit at the bar for one of their cocktail creations. The atmosphere is fantastic!

We chose the Grove for Two and had the Italian beef skewers, Hokkaido scallops, green beans, Dukkah Brioche, Brisket Wagyu, Kentucky Fried Quail, and finished with the vegan sundae. The Hokkaido scallops were the biggest hit--served with corn velouté, hazelnuts and summer truffles. Simply outstanding. And the Brisket Wagyu? I'm not even a brisket kind of girl, but holy moly. Easily the best-tasting brisket I've ever had. The only miss for us was the Kentucky Fried Quail. It was just a little too Kentucky fried--the coating overwhelmed the quail rather than letting it shine. Service was friendly and polished. While one person handled most of our table, the entire staff worked as a team, which is always delightful to witness. Grove is also known for its creative cocktails. They were delicious, although given the prices, the pours could have been a bit more generous. On the other hand, the Italian Sauvignon Blanc was a generous pour--and boy, was it tasty. Two strong recommendations- try to book a reservation on the patio if the weather cooperates ( it's fun, it's romantic, it's lovely) AND get the Grove for Two. It's a great value and you'll thank yourself later. The menu rotates, which gives us a very good reason to come back. After this meal, we definitely will.
