Cheesesteak with "extra mushrooms and onions"
    Malika C.

I had never been here honestly because I thought it was a gas station from the name alone. I decided to check out the reviews and they were raving about how good of a cheesesteak they have and I love cheesesteak so I decided to give it a try. It's... okay. It wasn't terrible but it was nothing I would consider fantastic as others are saying and the best I ever had. I probably would not come back here. It was mediocre food. A jersey mikes cheesesteak is 100x better tasting to me than this. Disappointed on the reviewers on this recommendation. Way over hyped for what it is.

    Don't eat here.

Worst customer service by Maria & Maritsa! For her birthday, my bride wanted to try PS for the FIRST time. Ordered online through PS. $75 order. Delivery said 6:34pm. Arrived at 7:15pm. Everything was cold & driver said they kept him at store adding orders to his delivery. Come to find out we received April's order (2 sandwiches) not ours. Tried calling 7 times & straight to VM. I drive to store, explain all this to MARIA & she says ,"Yes, I know. I messed up that order. We were busy." No apology, she just stoop there. So I requested my money back. Maria tells me she can't since we ordered thru door dash. I explained that we did not order with them, but via PS and showed her on my phone. Finally after 10 minutes she charged my card back. I asked about my order & she said it was to much & she can't make it for me without charging. I asked her if they wanted a one time customer or a customer for life? I thought her head was going to explode. Maria then requested that I take more time out of my schedule to come back the next day & speak with a manager. The lack of training is evident as MARIA admitted to knowing about messing up our order and doing nothing but ignoring it. Hoping it would just go away. Stay away from this place Please.

I usually go to the Penn Station at 78th & Dodge, but today I was in the Legacy area when I saw the shop nearby and decided to go there for lunch. I had my usual small BLT on multigrain bread with fries and a chocolate chunk cookie. All of it was great, as usual. What made the dining experience stand out was the smiling, friendly attitude of the people working there. I know I don't smile much which makes me appear to be grumpy and mad even when I'm not. That's why I notice people who smile. The guy who brought my sandwich had a big smile on his face like he was really happy to be there. He was also like that when taking customer orders and working behind the counter. Maybe he was the owner, I don't know, but his smile set me up with a good mood for the afternoon.

Let me tell you how the loud the music was. A guy parked in the designated spot right in front of the door. He was standing ten feet away and he didn't hear his own car alarm going off. Intolerable.

First timer, heard good things. We ordered a large cheesesteak and a large Italian. The multi grain bread is very good. Didn't try the white bread. I'm not sure which sandwich I enjoyed more. Both solid, but at a price. 2 large sandwiches, one medium fry and a medium lemonade is over $30. That's a little steep. It was also a very weird vibe with the workers in there. They are also super slow. No one was in there and it seemed like forever. Also, don't scoop the fries until the sandwiches are done in the oven because they get cold! Overall enjoyed our meal, but this is probably a one time stop for me.

Tonight we both tried the grilled Italian, & really liked it, better than I thought the Reuben was.

Just ok- a lot of hype but it's expensive and I most likely won't go back for average that's not close to my home.

If you get a choice of spots to sit, I would request not to sit on west side of restaurant where there is a long bench seat and tables lined up. It felt pretty close together, a little too cozy for me. The table next to us was in our conversation too often and we could definitely hear their conversation just fine. I'm also not sure what our "Universal Service Fee" was for, but wasn't an outrageous fee. We paid cash trying to avoid the extra fees. In all, it's a good spot as long as you get to chat with your party and not have unintended visitors from neighboring tables.

Gilberts you've been knocked down to number 2. I love the calamari and the dips they came with. It has the perfect chew and wasn't overcooked. It's hard to remember, but I believe my husband had some kind of chicken Alfredo or pasta. He has to write his own review. It was good. I also had a wedge salad, which was delicious as well. The ambience of 402 is nice and seems upscale but at the same time casual. I like that because we weren't dressed up. The waiters and waitresses wore T-shirts and jeans, but the atmosphere is still fancy for a nice date night.

Most of our group had been to Cheddar's before, and we were all excited to try some new menu items. Overall, the food was a hit. The onion rings came out hot and fresh, the lemon pepper chicken was especially juicy, and the white fish ended up being another favorite at the table. That said, there were a few service missteps that took away from the experience. Two people in our group ordered the white fish blackened, but only one plate came out as requested--the other was pretty bland. When our server eventually checked in (a bit later than expected), we mentioned the mix-up. His response was pretty casual, something along the lines of there just being less spice, and he didn't offer to fix it or have it remade. We ended up just swapping a fillet between the two plates so each person had one blackened and one not. It worked, but it felt like something that should have been handled differently. There were also a few moments where drinks went empty for a while, and our server wasn't around much. At one point, a manager actually stepped in and refilled waters for the table, which we appreciated. Overall, the service felt very laid-back...but to the point where it came across like he didn't care. One bright spot worth mentioning: my salad came out before the meal with a lot more cheese on top than I expected. As I was picking some off onto a side plate, a manager happened to notice and stopped to ask if I'd prefer a new salad without cheese. I explained it wasn't a mistake, just more than I wanted, but I really appreciated the attention and the offer to make it right.

Suffice to say (before reading my long review) it was not on par with the L street location! The staff were definitely new and learning the menu, but that is to be expected any time a new place is freshly opened. Our server, Blake, was nice though and was learning fast. But with a few other servers, there was one thing that did not come about from being a server in a new restaurant. We were eating and could CLEARLY hear the staff around the corner talking loudly and cursing left and right. I am not a prude about language but it's just not something you see every day at a restaurant with families/kids dining. The size of the restaurant seems a little smaller than the L street location, too. That may be a psychosomatic thing when trying a different location of a place you know, but I definitely felt more cramped. The food is on par with the OG spot, so no complaints there. My usual is the bourbon glazed salmon with the cheesy broccoli on the side. So it was just as tasty as the other location, but I think I'll stick to the L street one mostly going forward.

I'm not sure anyone had an amazing bite but the menu was large so there is still potential! I will say the one thing that stood out the most to me was the flavor. If the menu item said chipotle, Parmesan, honey, etc then that flavor was there and you could not get away from it! I had Parmesan in my potatoes and salad and it was overpowering. And my friend got the chipotle potatoes au gratin and said he could barely get the potato flavor. We all had the three course meal and most of us got the steak. We all ordered at different temperatures including medium well and they all came out rare or just uneven. It was good flavor and it wasn't too chewy so we all just ate it with no complaints! Along with the three course meal was a mini dessert so we all tried each and they all fell flat. We did get them to-go so maybe that had something to do with it but even a simple brownie wasn't anything great. Overall I want to chalk it up to wrong ordering and hope to come back and try other menu items and some suggestions!
