We go to Rave on Carpenter Rd every weekend. They have good food and clean theaters. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Good choices of movies. They often give me tips on how to best enjoy the movie we will be seeing- such as today when the ticket taker suggested we sit in the higher up seats so as to get the best screen resolution for this particular movie. We were a bit late (a family tradition) and the ticket taker assured me the movie itself had not yet started thus saving me buying tickets for the next showing. read more

Definitely recommend Emagine cinemas over this place. For one it's more expensive, two, it's hot and uncomfortable, and three, the seats are nowhere as comfy as the Emagine ones Lots of crime in the area, no free drink refills, (Emagine has unlimited) They do not bring food to your seat, and lastly, my son went inside with us to just use the restroom after dropping us off for a movie and they refused to let him without buying a ticket. Disappointing experience. I brought my daughter and her friend to a 4PM show on a weeknight. ~$7 per ticket so $21 on tickets. We spent over $30 on concessions and this is what we got: 1 water 1 luke warm hot dog 2 candies 1 small popcorn 1 small drink After spending over $50 here, they wouldn't let us refill the one small drink we had. You pay FULL PRICE again for a REFILL with everything. Mind you, this is a small which is max 10-12oz so I paid almost $5 for a can of pop? What even? Also, they have several concession counters and all of them are closed except for the main one. Don't advertise this if they are consistently closed. I would like to say I wont be back, but this is the closest theater to my house so I will be. I'll be bringing my own stuff in with me. I could shove a 2 day old hotdog into my pocket from my house for the same quality as their $6.50 hotdog. read more

We decided to do family night at the movies and finally see "Hidden Figures ". The theater was packed when we arrived for a 6:30 show, but the line moved quickly thanks to full staffing & a few ticket kiosks. I was a bit hesitant to go to this theater versus Quality 16 primarily because food historically has been much more expensive as well as the tickets. I Think they still are... but.. the theater has been redone. Carpeting, re-situated game machines, etc. have a new look. And the seats are very comfortable as they recline and have decent cup holders. Getting food at the hallway food counter was far less congested as most people stopped at the front one. However service was a bit unenthused. Especially when I switched from ordering a large popcorn & large drink combo to just a medium. He seemed so exasperated... poor teenage inpatient to have to deal with an indecisive old lady! But went well overall. Nice theater still more expensive.. read more

Another name change... since my last visit (almost 2 years ago), they changed their seats, which is nice, comfortable and I love the fact that you can recline by pushing buttons :) Buying tickets needs some work... it was Friday night, only two cashiers and one of the self ticket machine was out of order... I also noticed they now require you to select seats, which is nice. On this visit, they were out of the food I wanted, ended up paying $4.50 for a bottle of water that I ended up taking back home, lol... in the theaters itself, the chairs were comfortable, roomy and very open, which was really nice. One draw back... tray tables they have and the cup holders needs to be washed thoroughly as I spotted some butter droppings on the tray and the cup holders definitely were not cleaned in between movies. Everything in my last review still stands with a few changes here and there. First, and most importantly, the past several times we were at this Rave, we could hear loud scenes from the adjacent theater during our movie. This time, we might as well have been in the adjacent theater, as we could hear car chases, explosions, yelling, and even regular conversation, first from the theater on our right, and then from the theater on our left. We already saw "Fate of the Furious," and I feel like I just experienced it again, even though I was there tonight with my family to watch a different movie. Very irritating. Second, we purchased tickets ahead of time so as to save time instead of waiting in line because we were expecting to arrive just after previews started. That was a waste of time and money, as we still had to get tickets printed out because they don't scan the QR code on your phone. It's also more expensive than the theaters in Canton, which is closer to home for us. That's without the online service charge of $1.35 per ticket! Third, on the positive side, the seats, at least in the theater we were in, have more give than their old seats had, and were far more comfortable. That's not enough to keep me coming back though, unless there's something showing here that I can't see anywhere else. I don't want to listen to two movies at a time while paying higher prices. read more

The location is great for where I live, but the sound quality is a big concern. I've watched all of the big action films the last 6 years here but the sound is really really loud. Last night my wife and I saw The Flash and my ears are ringing still. This wasn't my first experience with this. I almost got up and went to ask someone to fit this. I remember this being a issue for Ford verse Ferrari and 1917. I hope no gets long term damage from this poor sound issue. read more

I usually end up going to Rave only once per year, during December or January for one of the holiday blockbuster movies that is just so fantastic, I don't want to wait a year and see it on a DVD from the library. The place is huge. Reminds me of an airport. Fairly clean most of the time. Sometimes you can see signs of heavy traffic in the concession area. But that's because I'm there immediately after the big Christmas rush. The reclining super-luxury seats with cup holders are supposed to be comfy, but I have a hard time sitting down for two whole hours no matter what the surface. So near the end of the movie I squirm to try to keep my tailbone comfortable. What amazes me is that only a couple of weeks after a new film opens, the individual sub-theatre showing that flick is nearly empty. It feels like a special, private screening. I've never seen the place during a really busy time or opening night. I don't think I could stand the crowds. There must be crowds, at least some of the time, in order to support this place. We broke our usual pattern and went for a Saturday matinee recently. It was "only" $8 per ticket. Hmmm, we might come a little more often. read more

I love that there is 20 screens here and it allows for a variety of movies available that aren't necessarily at other theatres. The recliner seating is the best especially for longer movies. The concession options are a bit more variety also. Keep it up and I will be returning many times read more

My favorite movie theater in Ann Arbor! They have nice, large padded seats that recline at the touch of a button on the inside of each chair. They also have a table next to every chair to place your drink and snacks on. I don't like however that there are no unlimited refills on the popcorn. You only get one refill, and they keep track of it by ripping off a perforated stub on the side of your popcorn bucket. I would suggest coming here on a Wednesday for discount day. Tickets are only $5.75! You may just have to get there a little earlier if it's a popular new movie and you want to get a good seat. This is a great movie theater! Especially with the new recliner seats, watching a movie is extremely comfortable! They even come with little tables for food, drink, and whatever else you have that you no longer need to stuff in between you and the arm rest. The prices are reasonable, there is a student discount, and discount day (Wednesday) is the best, where tickets are $5.75 all day for everyone! I've never ordered concessions from here, but I'd imagine they are as expected. The parking lot is big and it is close enough to campus for a quick, spontaneous movie outing! read more

An update to last year's review: The seats are the highlight of a visit. The concessions area are the problem. The snack stand on the Carpenter Road side is always blocked by generally clueless, dim-witted, or simply incompetent people who cannot seem to make up their minds. I went to the rear concession stand and there was not a soul there - it felt like an Admiral Akbar moment to me - it must be a trap! This is one of the nicest and best organized theaters I've been to for being not in a large urban center. Concession Price: This is where they lose a star. You CANNOT get free refills on anything unless it's a large, which the limit is one refill. A large popcorn will set you back $8.06 which is much higher than other theaters. Pretty ridiculous they limit your refills because other major chains like MJR do not. Style: This is the best part of the theater. The seats are all electronic now and recline pretty far. A unique feature is that they have tables that swing out over the chairs so you can buy your snacks, phone and drink on them so nothing gets lost in the seat. This isn't a feature I see in most theaters. Movie price: Just like every theater, they have cheap times and expensive times to visit. This location accepts the $10/month Moviepass for unlimited movies and it works perfectly without issues. If not, movies go up to around $11 a ticket at peak hours. Quality: During today's visit I have to say I had perhaps the best popcorn I have ever had, which says a lot as I go at least once a week. Perfect amount of butter, and popcorn was not dry at all. Went back for a refill and quality was just as good as the first. Will definitely return, but will only buy Large & Overpriced concessions because that's the only way to get refills! read more

I'd give this place negative stars if I could. Why? Well, the concession stand prices are beyond absurd, the seats are old/uncomfortable, the movie screens are dirty/tattered, the resolution of movies is awful, the sound quality/volume leaves a lot to be desired, the staff are not customer-focused, management is rude, other theatre guests are OFTEN loud/disruptive/on their phones, the theatre opts out of cool/one off special screenings (concerts, movies), and their arcade sucks. Maybe they could have lowered ticket prices or invested in a better experience for guests if they hadn't bit that ridiculous food court that is perpetually vacant? This theatre used to have a GREAT arcade and would have all night events featuring several movies - WTF ever happened to that?! Avoid this place. Rave has upgraded their theaters to the big couch-like chairs where you can recline and have extended foot-rests. The only thing I did not really like about this theater is that now you have assigned seats when you buy your ticket. My group got there pretty late, so we were stuck with the very first row. We all know how much a PAIN it is to sit in the front with your neck strained trying to watch the movie, but to my surprise, we were all pretty comfortable in the reclining chairs. TL;DR: new reclining chairs, but assigned seats. Prices: pretty decent. They have student discounts(~$8), cheap movies on Wednesdays (~$6), military discounts, early bird prices, etc. Concessions: cafeteria style, you get to grab the snacks and drinks you want and pay at the end before going into the theater section. read more

This place is a nightmare. Comically overpriced food and tickets, coupled with terrible service from the managers who watch over all customers like hawks. Maybe, JUST maybe, if you're going to have such a strict refill policy that requires you to physically take the cup out of a customer's hand who's refilling without buying a whole new cup, you shouldn't have made your concessions self-serve. Beyond just the customers being treated like garbage, it's clear the employees on the floor hate their jobs and every underpaid minute they stand lifelessly behind their service computers. They're being treated terribly, so they very understandably won't be treating the frustrated, overpaying customers with very much joy. This place is a dumpster fire, I'd give zero stars if I could. Wednesday cheap day! They really improved the snack buying experience by setting it up cafeteria style. The popcorn is good here, and you can add your own butter. The theater is usually freakishly deathly cold, bring a coat, a blanket, mittens, whatever. I've been very uncomfortable multiple times because of how cold the theater can be. read more

First time I've been in since the remodel and we were impressed but there are also a few areas for improvements. + The new seats are fantastic-ish. They're not recliners like a lot of theatres are moving towards (I really wish they were) but they're still big and comfy and rock back pretty far. - Arms rests go up but not far back enough for you to get your snuggle on if you're leaning back in the chair. So that was kind of weird. + The new concessions are impressiveish. I didn't actually go through any of the lines (my fella did that while I held our seats) so I can't speak to how good or annoying the self serve area is but I will say it was packed in the theatre for the Avengers midnight screenings and he was back very quickly with the popcorn and pop so I don't think he had to wait very long. I do miss the Nathan's Hot Dogs option but am very pro the new Paciugo Gelato counter. I used to live down the street from a full Paucigo location in Chicago and I've missed them so! Not as many flavors as they had there but I did still have a delicious cup last night and it brought me back. Nice! Also Starbucks coffee if you're into that sort of thing. - Popcorn was weirdly burnt at the top of the bag. If you've ever had burned popcorn you know that this is pretty terrible. I've never had burned popcorn at a movie theatre so I don't know what that was all about. Maybe just an oversight due to the volume they were pumping out for the crowds so I won't knock them for that. + Restrooms were clean, self serve kiosks are nice, cheap ticket prices on Wednesdays are awesome. Overall the initial changes I find to be positive but I'll have to give them more of a chance to really say for sure. Do not go to the Ann Arbor Cinemark Theater expecting that you will see a movie without involving you running to the lobby from the theater (multiple times) to request help from someone because something has gone wrong with the movie and there is nobody there to assist. They have three employees to every one customer in the lobby concession but not a soul available to check on the movie to make sure it is running without problems or even starting correctly. When I asked a manager today about why it is that every showing has a problem one manager kindly apologized and offered me some passes. Where it was generous and the right thing to do I really would rather have just not have had to leave the people I was with and walk the full length of half of a 20-movie auditorium to locate someone to go into a booth and turn on the projector and verify the movie is playing...with video. Another manager informed me that the digital camera must not have turned on. Her matter-of-fact manner that I was not receiving the service I paid for was the fault of the machine rather than having an operator available or assistance to correct the issue implied that I should just shut up and deal with the fact that customer service was not her business. When I asked why providing a person to just check to see the movies started on time or have someone on that side of the theater to assist was not possible I was told that it was payroll's decision rather than the responsibilities of the managers on duty. My fault I went to enjoy a movie today at a theater that does not consider the patrons beyond what they can get out of them at the food court. I asked for the General Manager's name so I could relay my concern and was told he gets in at 9:00am on Monday. The manager made no attempt to collect my information or even empathize with my concerns. I went to the Cinemark website and there is not even contact information available. So now I get it...they really don't care about me as a theater goer. Thank you for clearing up any misconception I might have had about thinking you cared about customers. read more

Cool comfortable cinema. Very affordable as well. We went there in the evening and two adult tickets were $16 bucks. We were visiting from California Bay Area and that would have cost us at least $8 more. We watched Hobbs and Shaw and one of the workers came in to clean after the movie ended. I have learned to stay and watch the credits. So we caught the 1st scene after the movie ended and then another. As we were going to leave the worker then said there is one more scene. About 3 min later the scene appeared. We would have missed that part for sure but thanks to him we caught it. read more

Teeny tiny screen - probably so you'll opt for IMAX instead. Lots of screens, good 3D, and they actually have imax. Chairs are comfy, and some theaters have good leg room. It's not one of those cinemas with the big, plush recliners, but certainly on the more comfortable side. What's really cool about the theater is that they don't show just new movies, but also Bollywood, 90s marathons, and other theme showings for really cheap prices, which is really cool (ahem, still waiting for the Harry Potter marathon, thank you very much). Also, cheap tickets are available to all movies on Wednesdays Other than that, it's clean. It has some games to kill time before the show starts. The claw machine is crap - won an angry bird with $2, then wasted $6 trying to get a stupid cat. Food is expensive but delicious like all theaters. It's a good movie theater. read more

I may be in the minority here, but when I go to see a movie, I only care about one thing: the movie watching experience. Customer service, concessions, food refills, and bathroom cleanliness all don't mean so much to me-- I want a large, high quality screen, state of the art sound technology, and comfy chairs. Rave Cinemas satisfies all my desires in a movie going experience. The screens are quite large, picture quality is good, and the sound is pristine and clear. Much better than Quality 16 in my opinion. The seats are great! The first time I sat in one, I remember distinctly thinking: "ooooooh so soft!" I also like how they have bulk candy. Often times I just want a few gummybears after dinner,and the bulk selection allows me to pay like 3 bucks for just enough sweets. I've been here a few times. We live RIGHT by the quality 16 and pretty much never go to the movies. We have a membership to the Michigan Theatre, so that's generally where we go if we go at all. And when we have exchange students they go to Quality. But lately I've been missing going to the movies. I have seen three films here since August. While it's not a super fancy theater, it's pretty solid. I like the POS to buy your own tickets although I think if you buy them ahead of time it's weird that you have to pick them up from the box office counter (although service is always quick, competent and friendly). I like that they have more than just standard fare when it comes to food. I couldn't ever imagine getting pizza at a movie but last weekend I did just that. I hadn't eaten and was STARVING and so I got a slice and it was pretty good. They also have icecream. Kind of cool. The prices are, of course, INSANE. But whatever. That's every movie theatre. The staff is always very friendly and quick and people seem to like their jobs or at least to be having fun doing them. My only complaint would be that sometimes the volume seems like it's too low. Also, depending on where you sit you can be wrapped in a halo of the projector's light. But moving fixes this. And it's your own (my own) damn fault for sitting there. A solid place and if it were closer I would probably go there instead of Quality 16 but I'm too lazy to drive that far when Quality is right in my neighborhood. read more

The have done this place up. Gone are the days of the old Showcase Cinemas that this building accommodated. The new owners and or management is finally doing something right here. Catering to not just the English speaking audience, but with movies from far away lands such as India in different languages, this place really is a cinema for everyone. Dolby, THX sounds, 3D movies, IMAX movies, a visual paradise. Well, yeah, you got to pay top dollar specially during the evenings and weekends. And the seats...They have renovated and redesigned that experience as well. Plush leather seating sofa like chairs, with electronic touch push button controls nestled at your right side of the seat controls the reclining functions as well as the prop-up for your feet, so you can really immerse yourself in that 1 to 3 hour movie that you and your loved ones went to see. Yes, finally a movie theater I shall recommend all my friends and family to. YOU WILL LOVE THE EXPERIENCE!!! Heck...I do. Going there again, tonight. See you there!! Came here to watch Interstellar even though it wasn't IMAX. This theater is a short drive from U Mich campus so a lot of college students frequent here. Definitely use your student discount if you can! That will save you a lot of money. The leather seats are pretty comfy and they even tilt back a little. The seats have arm rests that you can move up and down so that way, you can cuddle with your +1s if you like. Clean bathrooms, nice staff working at the snack section. read more

I gave 2 stars only because it appears they are doing a remodel. It would have been 1 star otherwise. 1st, I am a Veteran and I do t feel I deserve anything just because I wrote a blank chance and signed my life away over to the American people. That said, this theater offered a Veteran/military discount for years and all of a sudden they say they only offer Active Duty the discount now and they do it in a condescending way, blaming "the rules" and "management". It embarrassed me greatly to be walking with a limp and then to be told "no discount for you" like they were the soup nazi. Eh, I got over it but last night they informed us no more free refills in the drinks. Just the popcorn. Well, that's just poor customer care. My expectations are much higher when I spend $5 on a drink that cost a company a quarter to provide me. My entire family is out. This location has been through renovations and owners, I guess such is the life of the giant mega plex movie theatre locations lately. Hollywood forces them to upgrade to digital highly expensive IMAX / 3D blarg projectors every few years. I've gone here generally since it is one of the closest ones near the house. It has been getting more and more expensive with each owner and name change. The latest "Rave" group seems to be back into mega plex game, where you have 16+ screens, IMAX and 3D everything to justify ~$15+ tickets. The popcorn, oh don't get me started on over priced, subsidize our business through food scams. But well the food is overpriced (like most theaters). You can easily pay $50 here if you got on a movie date to an IMAX flick with some popcorn and pop as a couple, which is a JOKE. I really wish theater food was reasonable, just be honest that tickets need to be $20 because some Hollywood studio wants it so. Anyway, its a movie theater, it isn't terrible, if you can stomach the cost of IMAX/3D well then you will go here. If you are bitter about expensive popcorn, and hate paying over $10 per ticket, you won't. read more

I haven't been here in a couple years, but my mom wanted to see The Post so I tagged along. Walk in and it looks great! A number of concessions, games, seating...I wasn't prepared for how awesome the seats would be. Reclining seats! New experience for me and man it was amazing. Seats were very comfortable and it's a godsend snotty kids can't sit behind you putting their feet on top of the chairs. Loved the arrangement. My mom commented how she'd go see movies all the time with seats like this. Overall good experience my first time back. Now if only people would learn how to shut it and not whisper 95% of the movie.... read more
