Got the place almost to myself!

I've loved this place for years. Hard to believe that I haven't reviewed it before. Best burger in town, in a town full of really good burgers. The inside is spruced up these days, and the parking lot is usually full of work trucks. Takeout is fast and service is always prompt and usually cheerful. The menu is "diner-meets-Appalachian-bistro" and reasonably priced. Nathan's hot dogs, all the breakfast things, soup beans & cornbread, chicken fried & Salisbury steaks, fried bologna sandwiches, and the next thing in my hitlist (if I can ever NOT get a burger here) is the pork tenderloin sandwich.

We went to this place while in town visiting ETSU. We decided to give it a try based on its Google and Yelp reviews. OMG - very pleased is an understatement! This place was great in every way! Deliciousness - food, service, atmosphere, and pricing!

Yummy food home cooked at its best. Service was great. Philly cheesesteak was stuffed full with sliced beef. She just keeps saying "Delicious ". Bacon cheeseburger was excellent. Made with hand made patties. Must be at least a half pound. We'll be back. Great price for what you get.

Breakfast of grits, eggs, crispy bacon, biscuit and gravy with sausage crumbles on top.

Yet another discovery... and the first impression is... a good one. All in all this seems to be an old locally owned spot fixing good to really good food at reasonable prices - what more could you want? Except maybe that they were open past 3pm... I'll be back either way. The place was very busy at about 10:45 am Friday morning. It's an older building and interior which looks to have been "rode hard and put up wet" more than a few times. Located across street from a sign reading "Girls, girls, girls", I wasn't sure what to expect. After getting inside and eating, several words come to mind: breakfast, lunch, dive, good (all meant with positive tone). I ate the breakfast and I'd call it above average. Although the biscuit wasn't made in-house it was good. I wanted sausage gravy which theirs was not, but they happily offered to crumble some over top which got me the fix I was looking for. I asked for crispy bacon and I got excellently prepared really good crispy bacon. I asked for eggs over medium well and that's what I got too! Grits in a bowl were a good portion- a little on the watery side but flavor was fine. The coffee was coffee. Not Starbucks, but hot, good coffee. The comment I heard from the other side of the table about the hamburger (which had BBQ sauce and onion rings on it among other things) was that it was "pretty good"... and coming from who said it, that means "above average".

Wanting to be considerate of the staff, I called ahead to see if we could place an order in advance without causing them to stay open longer than necessary. Alecia, the restaurant manager, handled the call with both professionalism and thoughtful attention. After asking about our expected arrival time, she explained that she would time the preparation of the order so the food would be served hot and at its best quality when we arrived. She also informed us that Zack in the bar would assist us since the bar remained open later. Her approach reflected a clear commitment to both customer service and the integrity of their dining experience. Upon arrival, everything was exactly as described. Alecia ensured our order was ready and confirmed that Zack would take care of us going forward. Both Alecia and Zack were courteous, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout the interaction. Their efforts stood out in a time when exceptional service can feel uncommon. I would confidently recommend The Carnegie Hotel and Wellington's to others based on the level of care and professionalism demonstrated by their staff.

I ordered the beef tips, which were very good, but the portions were tiny. My wife got the salmon that she said she liked but it too was a very small portion. The beer, some from an attached brewery, was great, with a nice range of styles. Not everything on tap was another IPA. In terms of food, I'm not their target audience, but they do seem to have made at least some effort to have something without meat on the menu. In terms of food, I ordered the house salad with a smoked vegetable topping. It was great. The smoked vegetables were a really nice way to get a little bit of barbecue into a vegetarian dish. They also added lots of flavor to the salad. I was afraid the salad might not be very substantial, so I also ordered some pickle fries. Those were interesting, but substantially more food than I needed. The salad is already plenty for a meal. I've been traveling this week, and I think this place is the best restaurant I've checked out during my trip. Highly recommended.

As we were seated we had the privilege of meeting our waitress Sophia . Undecided on what to get besides the tater tots I picked her brain . Settled on loaded tater tots , coleslaw sweet potato's , brisket , turkey and a meat of her choice (ended up with pork belly . The loaded tater tots had jalapeño queso and pulled pork absolutely amazing tots . Coleslaw was nice crisp and a good mild flavor . While the sweet potato's were full of flavor and had a granola type stuff on to . Brisket was the perfect amount fat and meat . Turkey was thin sliced , great full flavor and slightly moist . The pork belly had lots of meat , mixed with the jalapeño queso the pork belly had a mind blowing flavor . The pork belly and the added queso should be the number one selling item on the menu .
