My friends were staying in this hotel not long after it opened so we came for drinks and to check out the atmosphere. I was surprised to see that the lounge was very bright. Definitely not what you'd expect from a boutique hotel bar. Octopus ceviche was not bad but portions are as you can imagine, not very big. My $12 fruity cocktail, jasmine infused, was alright. Not as sweet and fruity as expected. My friend ordered a fruity cocktail that came with fire and tasted good. Hubby got a beer, $9. I'd recommend sitting at the bar if there is just two. I've been here with groups and the experience at the bar is where you will find the entertainment. The Bartenders have always been fun to talk to, they make very tasty craft cocktails and at times will put on a bit of a show when mixing. Seeing some of the other reviews, I think perhaps we came too late in the night (10pm??) or it was an off night. I wasn't wowed by this place, it was simply a-ok for me. Bestie and I felt like one more drink before heading home and, having peeked in the window on our way past earlier in the night, we thought this would be a fun spot. It turns out it's a hotel bar, which definitely changed the atmosphere drastically from how we thought it would be. It's still a nice space, but it feels a bit less intimate than I'd hoped. Wow! The drinks are inventive, gorgeous and tasty! The bartenders were friendly and talked to us about the drinks they were making. Chad (I think), one of the bartenders was testing a drink he created in a blender that I decided to try. I was hesitant at first because of visions of sickly sweet blended drinks but I didn't need to be! It was delicious, light and delicate - I have no idea what was inside but some wonderful jasmine infused concoction. I also tried the special rum punch of the day - This was the happy hour special and it also was delicious and unique, not your typical rum punch. My friend ordered a Manhattan and had one with a recommended bourbon. Fantastic! We ordered some snacks as well and were surprised to see the bartender preparing the bar food too. They make their own potato chips and we had fried chick peas and other yummies. The vibe is elegant, friendly and comfortable. Couches, tables and chairs and a great, long bar. Some of our party got really excited about the multi-person drink, "that's Mr baby to you", thinking it would be fun for the table... The flaming limes and straws were great but the drink was awful. My husband and I stayed at the Palladian for our wedding night and the day after. We had the pleasure of being served by Amanda and Travis at Penny Royal during our stay. As a service industry veteran, I truly appreciate when bartenders go above and beyond, and both of them were excellent, friendly, and made us want to come back. The cocktail menu is varied and well-structured, and the food menu is small but delicious. I'm a sucker for tiki cocktails and ridiculous drinks, so we tried the blended drink on the menu that serves multiple people. It was delicious, balanced, and not overly sweet. I can safely say it's the best blended drink I've had in Seattle (and we're from Seattle). We really enjoyed the conversation and great service, and we will definitely be back! read more

Unless I'm going to spoil myself then I order the clams with bread service. The breakfast is solid. You don't need to be over the top, you just need to be well done. They have the best sausage for their breakfast sandwich. If you want to do something less savory and more sweet they have a massive cornmeal pancake to satisfy a sweet tooth that comes with a bunch of berries. If you work in the downtown area this is a perfect quiet spot to get some work done, have a small lunch meeting, or if you just want to get away from the office for a meal. Stopped in for appetizers and drinks with some girl friends. Nice swanky hotel bar right in the heart of the city. Lots of specialty drinks on their menu which are very highly priced. The food was pretty good, we ordered the cheeseburger and fries, asparagus and the Mac and cheese. The burger was so amazing and came with crispy little shoestring fries, the asparagus had a sauce which none of us liked and the Mac and cheese was just okay. For drinks we had Pinot and beer and the other half of the group weren't drinking. Once the drinks were gone they never checked on us or offered refills and we were sitting at the bar!! After finishing everything we waited for a about a half hour for our check and then finally waved them down which seemed like a chore. Not impressed by the service here. I have dined at Shaker and Spear several times, but I recently discovered Pennyroyal (located up the stairs from Shaker and Spear). While waiting for my friend to arrive for dinner, I decided to walk up and grab a drink and pleasantly surprised. I ordered the sherry french 75 and it was fantastic! My friend ended up joining me and ordered an old fashioned and loved it! The space is small, but I really love the dark and quite ambiance. It almost reminds me of the secret bars in London. This was the perfect spot for drinks and apps before our show at The Moore Theater last night. There is a neat brick backdrop to the bar that gives speakeasy feel to it. We prefer to sit at the bar and the hostess made some room for us there, and we were quickly served by the bartenders. The salt cod on toast and Brussel sprouts were both delicious! I'd highly recommend the Night Watchmen Flame Keeper that has whiskey, egg, and I think grated nutmeg on top and has a pink color and a creaminess to it. Yum!!
