Employees were arguing with the manager in front of the customers. Due to this the people seated behind us walked out due to them arguing instead of attending clients. When it came time to make our pancakes the manager didn't clean the grill, which was just used to make bacon and eggs. I don't personally mind but if someone is allergic to something this concern for cross contamination. When you pay and they give you a receipt, it is only a summary, if you want details of what they charged. You have to ask for the detailed receipt. Only positive was them accepting apple pay and the employee whom argued with the manager, cleaned the grill later on. read more

Enjoyed a breakfast/brunch drop in after seeing Penny's Diner for years but never having a chance to try prior. Their 50's diner feel is cool, complete with small booths and a working kitchen in clear view. Started off with a hot cup of coffee which was good. I asked for a recommendation & was told their burgers were good. Ordered the All Day Breakfast Burger (burger with cheese, bacon and a fried egg). Had the choice of hash browns or tater tots & chose the tots. I enjoyed the meal. The service was good. The meal was good and I'll definitely return to try more. The only reasons it was not a 5-star review, 1. The bacon on my burger wasn't crispy like I asked for & 2. I was never offered a coffee refill. read more

Staying at the Hotel that is a part of this diner. Went to go eat breakfast but was refused because of the weather outside. It had started snowing some at 9:00 am. They said it is closed due to weather but they were already there so I don't see what the weather had to do with it. read more

Ease of shipments of food stuffs n condiments... available employees....2 doesn't cut it!!! Management is a consuming factor...how it's managed!!! I looked across the flood plain to the Franklin Mountains, seeing a silver stripe zig-zagging on it--it was TransMountain/Loop 375, the very same road I had just been cycling, successfully ascending the mile(1.6kms)-high pass. This is definitely out of the way, but if you're passing a somewhat nearby (shooting out in the desert, taking back roads to Las Cruces, or maybe heading out this way to make it to that one lonesome bridge to Mexico), it's not a bad stop and it is kind of a cool space. Penny's is located in the parking lot of a hotel and it looks like they might be owned by the hotel as well. It's a 24 hour diner and it is through and through a diner. There's nothing fancy about the food and the pricing is a little high, but I kind of get why. It's not astronomical, just like $8-ish for a burger sans sides. We were welcomed by the sole cook when we entered and Penny's kept a steady flow of patrons while we were there. I ordered the Mushroom and Swiss Burger and a shareable portion of the chili cheese fries. The chili cheese fries are a HELL YES! There just exactly what I want when I ordered chili cheese... Texas chili with nacho cheese... yaaaaassss! My burger wasn't great. They use a press to make the burgers and mine was pretty dry because of it... with this knowledge I think I'll just stick to normal burgers in the future that I can load up with mayo, ketchup, and mustard. I really just liked how clean the design is at Penny's. It feels like you've walked into a real deal 50's diner in its prime! Such a cool step back in time! One of, if not the worst dining experience of my life. My God. So we came in at 9:13 PM. There was 1 customer inside. Three in my group. I ordered a chicken fried steak, and a cup of chili Another ordered chili cheese fries and the third a cowboy burger. It took a full hour to get the trash we were served. They were out of potatoes so I didn't get any. The cup of chili was a tiny side dish of some beefy crap they called chili. It tasted like cat food. It will make you wish you had that kind of stove and cooktop your own kitchen. The event is good so you don't come out smelling like food It is clean and not so busy. Terribly disappointed today. I really enjoy coming out here even though it's a 30 mile round trip. There's a certain thrill going back in time to a 50s diner serving your favorite comfort food breakfast. All of our previous treks here were good and my earlier reviews reflect that. So what's happened. For one thing the Oak Hill Inn next door has become a Travelodge. That shouldn't affect the diner but who knows. We ordered our usuals: my wife got her Ranch breakfast (once known as the Open Range breakfast of chicken fried steak and eggs while I got the Deluxe biscuits and gravy. Whatever makes them "deluxe" is a complete mystery. The menu refers to a 'plate size' Cinnamon roll- a Penny's original". My wife added that to her order to be shared with me. Her plate arrived first: the soft scrambled eggs looked nice and fluffy but the steak appeared much smaller than I remember and looked burnt and shriveled. But the thick cream gravy in top was enticing. My biscuits were hardtack and gravy. The gravy was superb but I could have used a steak knife to cut the biscuit. The touted 'pennys original" cinammon roll was just as hard, and nowhere near plate size . If that's the best they can do they should stop at the supermarket and pickup a tube of Pillsbury rolls. All around, it was the gravy that saved the meal. Now our policy is never make a knee jerk decision so we will make one more trip out here one day soon. We hope for a return to the first experiences we had. If so we will keep coming back. But if our next experience is like this one, bye bye Pennys. read more

Four of went to Santa Teresa to check out the area for an upcoming tour in July. While there we ate lunch at Penny's Diner. They serve typical diner type foods. We all had sandwiches, 2 Patti Melts, a hamburger and a Phillie cheesesteak. All of our sandwiches were good. We had a piece of cherry pie for dessert. Service was very good. read more

Coming from California, you get a lot of diner-y places around. This place is the real thing. They have a decent menu, and if you want something else, they'll work with you. The experience is nice, no music, but it has a very calm, warm atmosphere. If I'm ever in this part of the country again, I'm coming back to try the cinnamon rolls. read more

I took my son out to eat for his 12th birthday he immediately love the 50s style theme!!!!!!!!! We were immediately greeted by the cook I believe his name was Jose. He was very attentive to our order. We had some JUMBO BIG A** BURGERS with all the fixings. The burgers were amazing! We also had the chicken salad I couldn't get enough of the ranch dressing! He was very quick with our orders, they were cooked perfectly. Home-style burgers! He suggested we try dessert since it was my son's birthday. He suggested some brownie with the BEST vanilla ice cream ever!!!! Home-style vanilla ice cream on top of a freshly baked brownie, nice and warm still. I highly suggest this place to everyone! I would not give them 1 star if I could. Horrible service. We went for supper and the waitress would not wait on us, the cook did somewhat. Expensive for the food you do get. Then breakfast came, we went to it just because it was close and no staff were in the dinner. I yelled hello and good morning. No rely. When the staff did come out she was wiping things off instead of coming to us. Then when we ordered coffee and orange juice it never showed up. They were moving blenders etc. and talking. Wrong Choice on Sunday Went there with a group of six at Lunch time Sunday, (12:30PM), Waited 20 minutes for water or any kind of drink. They were horribly understaffed. The waitress was also the front desk clerk for the Hotel adjacent, as well as the cashier; furthermore, she had the duty to shuttle railroad crews from the hotel to the rail yard some 4 or more miles away. So needless to say she was way to busy to give any kind of service. Then there was the other employee, the cook. he stayed in front of his gril, and ventured no where. The restaurant was light in traffic, but it took about 50 minutes to get any food. The food was okay, but the check out was grueling and very slow, thus the 2 star rating. Up for a drive to this hidden little diner in Santa Teresa? It is worth the drive. This place is clean and well maintained. It takes you back to the 50's era in both decor and when you order straight to the cook. Horrible place to go to be completely honest! Went for a late night dinner with my boyfriend on valentines day of 2016. Food looked good. Although they didnt know their own menu! I instisted it had barbcue sauce and bacon and they told me it didnt... When i asked for a menu and reviewed what i ordered i showed the waiter "proof" of what my burger should have and then they fixed it. Other than this, the food was cold. I saw the cook use the microwave to heat up my chili cheese fries which were horribly made and tasted aweful. The service sucked. We were the only table there and they wouldnt check up on us often at all or ask us if we needed anything. We always had to try and get their attention often. Wonderful place to eat!! Love the old fashion diner feel. Clean , courteous, classic menu and delightful oldies. Love that it is 24 hrs. So even after a night of painting the town red, i can swing on by for a nice cup of coffee and a great meal. Jose was my waiter, cook and cashier. He was a remarkable individual with outstanding customer service. Service was fast and friendly. Food was fantastic and filling totally worth the price.
