I have memories of coming here with my grandparents when I was a little kid back in the 80's. Yes, this exact location! They'd bring me here for breakfast. I always loved the eggs, bacon and pancakes. I hear that the breakfast is still reasonably priced (and tasty) these days. The last time I had Grandy's was sometime when I was pregnant with my son, 15 or 16 years ago! But... My mom sort of let me relive some good memories the other day. She brought me some chicken fried steak, corn, mashed potatoes and rolls for lunch. It was really good and it hit the spot! I loved that the chicken and mashed potatoes had lots of gravy on top of them. It was creamy and had just the right amount of flavor. I love gravy! The only thing I didn't like was the corn. It didn't have any flavor at all. I didn't want to add any salt or pepper so I just left it there. The rolls were tasty too. I should've added some butter but I didn't. I think this is the only Grandy's in El Paso these days. I'll have to come back to relive the 80's and good times again soon! Coming to Grandy's is sort of like traveling in a time machine...or maybe in that DeLorean from "Back to the Future." I'll buy a DeLorean when I win the lottery. I stopped in because some locals told me it was good fast food place specific to the south. I would call it a cross between a cracked barrel and a McDonald's. Southern country cooking but fast food. I had the chicken fried chicken with gravy. Basically it's a breaded chicken breast with sausage gravy. It was good comfort food, especially the gravy. I also had the green beans and baked beans. The green beans were average and the baked beans had a nice sweet flavor. Not bad for fast food but it's just that. A fast food place with mediocre food. But like many fast food places, I'll likely be back when I'm in a hurry and need a quick decent meal that isn't particularly good for me. Drove 15 minutes to get a to go to Grandy's for the first time in 2 years and every order meal was incorrect. Bag was tightened so we did not check. There were no cars in parking lot, so it was VERY slow at the time and did not think that since it was so slow they would mess up every order. I will start by honestly explaining that the food here is really good. The morning biscuits and gravy with sausage is phenomenal. However, the service is absolutely awful. 4/5 times my order is wrong. Usually, it is not a big deal because usually it is a side item that is changed, but the final straw came a month ago when I not only received the wrong sides for one meal but an entirely wrong meal for another. The issue is that I paid double what I received. To make matters worse, I live in the northeast, a 35 minute drive from the restaurant. Of course, I called when I realized their mistake, and I was told that I could come back in at any time to receive my correct order despite me asking just to have the difference refunded. The next day I decided to get the meal I paid for. However, the staff said it was not in the book and that the manager would not be in until the next day, so I waited and called the following day. I spent twenty minutes on the phone explaining the situation and how I had paid for something I did not receive, and the manager only gave the excuse that the person I spoke with did not write down my name even though I had my order number with a receipt and the incorrect order they gave me. Wow! How have I been coming to El Paso for over 30 years and never heard of this place! It's delish!! There is only one location and let me warn you the line gets long, but worth it! For about $8 you can enjoy a full plate of chicken fried steak, fried chicken, mashed potato's, and a side! It's a great serving of food and omg it's so good!! Another yummy treat were the cinnamon rolls! Warning: these do come with nuts and raisins. I am not a fan of nuts but this roll was soooOO delish and warm with some melted cinnamon butter! This def is more of a fast food tYpe place and it does actually have a drive thru wHich is nice. I ordered a 15 piece meal that comes with rolls and 3 sides. They had me wait for 25 minutes because they didn't have all the chicken. I was in no hurry so sure, i waited. After 25 minutes they brought me my food. Wish I would of checked the bag but you think that by following a ticket they can put all the items in the bag. So everyone's been chatting this place up. So I thought I would give it a go. I was so underwhelmed. It was not just the cinnamon rolls. It was everything. My eight piece chicken consisted of four wings and two legs the size of my thumb and a two average size breast. I was expecting buttermilk biscuits being that they are screaming about their southern blah blah blah. The biscuits tasted like sweet Hawaiian rolls from the grocery store. I ordered two large sides that came in 16 ounce Styrofoam cups one was green beans. No bacon and so overcooked they dissolved in my mouth. My mashed potatoes were so watery I could drink them with a draw And there was no sausage in the sausage biscuit gravy. The cinnamon rolls were not completely cooked. It was virtually no cinnamon or anything gooey and delicious on the inside. There was three drizzles of frosting across the top a few raisins sprinkled with cinnamon and four pieces of walnuts on each one. My bill was $40. And my chicken was a little on the salty side. I used to come here with my mother, sisters and grandparents every Sunday after Church. I was 13, trough 16 years old then. Now I am 43. My Grandfather passed away 21 years ago, my grandmother 2 years ago. As a kid I was always mad "why do we always have to go to the same place all the time"... Well now our lives have changed my mother is retired, my sisters all have their careers and families and so do I, i really want to get everyone together to come back on a Sunday with our new families. I'll make it happen! Anyway what does that have to do with a review you ask? Well the chicken is good crispy and juicy, they have a little but awesome salad bar. Basically the quality of the food is way better than what the prices suggest. Everything is fresh and hand breaded, great daily special and nothing has changed over the years, not only is the restaurant exactly the same but so is the taste and quality of the food!
