Pennyville is always a reliable choice. The food is consistently good, and the Wagyu burger is excellent. They also have a solid beer selection, and having Allagash available is always a win. What really sets this place apart is the family that owns it. Everyone is genuinely kind and welcoming, which makes each visit feel easy and enjoyable. The restaurant itself is a great size. Room for large groups but also a bar for solo diners. A great neighborhood spot that delivers every time!!

Really good spot for drinks. There are two bar areas and we always come for an after dinner drink. If you are eating here, they have great food. The chopped chicken salad is delicious and fills me up. My husband loves the turkey burger and the prime burger. Amazing food but it is pricey. The service is wonderful they do have the best waiters/waitresses. The ambiance is amazing as well and always crowded. One of our favorites in Park Ridge!

The food was fine. And the drinks were good--they didn't seem to skimp on the alcohol, because I was pretty buzzed after a couple and glad I had plenty of time to chat and eat and burn it of. (Though who knows, maybe it's just that I haven't had more than a glass or two of wine in over two years.) The service was relatively competent and not too overbearing... though they brought the wrong item for me and the server came back with it within a minute or so, so I'm really hoping they didn't take it to someone else's table and bring it back to me. The most glaring issue is that it's really expensive. I'm not sure the food justifies this sort of price. I'd rather go to my favorite brunch place, in Andersonville, and leave with a smaller bill. And their menu seemed smaller than I anticipated. If not for the pleasant company with a couple friends it would have been a bummer of a meal. The menu was somewhat small, and I only found one, possibly two, things I would want to order. This was for brunch, though; perhaps their main menu is more extensive. The parking along main can be sparse since there's a lot of restaurants and businesses here, and that parking gets even more constrained during the spring or summer when most of the parking spaces are taken by outdoor seating. But there are at least one or two parking lots a block or two away which is for Metra and is often pretty empty. There's also three-hour parking near the library and along Prospect, and the Metra station is directly across from the restaurant.

Delayed posting from a few weeks ago... Went here for a group dinner for work. We arrived with a slightly larger group than expected and a bit earlier than our reservation. The manager quickly got us the space we needed for our party and had us seated promptly. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, quickly getting our orders for drink and appetizers put in. Pennyville Station pays homage to the town's former name from the early 1900s. The outside patio is adjacent to the train tracks, which adds to the restaurant's moniker. We sat on the outside patio and the weather was perfect for it in early September. With such a large group, there were plenty of appetizers to share across the table. The mussels appetizer was delicious and tender. I could've drank the flavorful white wine and garlic sauce. Perfect pairing with the mussels. I also enjoyed the crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon. I ordered the salmon entree. It was served over a cauliflower rice, pilaf style. The salmon was moist and perfectly seasoned. The corn in the cauliflower rice added a touch of sweetness. If I'm ever in town again, I would definitely eat here again.

3 people in our party and all entrees were disappointing. Waste of money. Would not recommend.

Service is good, I won't even question that. Unfortunately, the menu is ... different. First of all, many things from before are not on the menu anymore, and the ones are there- their prices can compare to downtown's prices. :-( even though I am usually not paying attention to that, this time it was sooo obvious, that I had to notice it. We were there around 11 am, got a lunch menu, so, not many things you can order. I choose burger, which was good, but besides that, not many breakfast options. Not coming there soon, but will check in a while to see if anything has change because I use to like this place

My friends and I met up for brunch here and had a great time. We had a semi big group(10 in total) and they easily accommodated us. We have a reservation and called to push it up and it was no problem. I LOVE the ahi tuna nachos. I wish I would have just ordered it as my main dish! I ordered the lump crab eggs Benedict and a mimosa. The eggs b was very good. Lots of crab and very flavorful. My toddler accompanied me and I ordered her fries and a side of bacon and two scrambled eggs. The fries basket was very big and tasty. We shared with the two other kids at the table and still had plenty. The service was great. Our server was very nice and so patient with us. I know with big group and with kids it's hard. She was awesome.

    Lemon Basil Hummus

The outdoor patio had a really nice, chill vibe--perfect for a sunny day. We started with the lemon basil hummus served with watermelon radish and pita. It was delicious, and I especially loved the whole chickpeas for a little added texture. I had the salmon burger and swapped the bun for sourdough to make it open-faced--highly recommend. I also subbed in sweet potato fries for a little extra, but they were totally worth it: crispy on the outside, soft on inside. (Unpictured: my husband had the carved turkey sandwich and loved it!) Service was great overall--nice staff, a little slow to start, but we didn't mind relaxing and taking our time.

Walking around Park Ridge and decided to stop by. The location was open on July 4 which I was surprised. We got seated right away. The decor inside is really nice, it doesn't all go together well but I like that, gives it some old time esthetic. 2 Small Caesar salads: 10/10 super good dressing could tell it's house made and loved the shaved parmesan. Fish and Chips 10/10, the best I've had yet. Light and airy with flavoring. The tartar sauce went so well with it it wasn't too overpowering and of course the slaw and fries were very very good. Had to bring leftovers. Wagyu Burger 8/10, flavors were very good. The meat was cooked medium but the mistake made was putting the chipotle mayo on the burger. If we hadn't done that it would have been perfect. Fries were also good. Had a ginger beer and a coke on the side they were very good. Service was amazing and will be coming back

It's very peaceful, romantic and a calm atmosphere. All of the food was delicious. The plating is so attractive! The dishes have great flavor but are healthier options. The portion sizes were perfect for what we desired. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was the best branzino I've ever had. The skin was crunchy and delicious. But the fish was not dry at all! There's nothing better than a juicy branzino fish and chef Jose nailed it! Matching with the sauce and beans was so much better than any other veggies or starch. The octopus was also cooked to perfection. The flavor and temperature was just right. Not too hot and such a great texture. We don't always order desserts but we had to see every course of the menu. We decided to go with a lava cake and it did not disappoint. It had that perfect contrast of hot and cold but it's served with gelato which gives it a nice touch of texture compared to standard ice cream. Chef Jose came out and introduced himself. We came in because we were enticed by a beef tartare that was on their menu in the past. We're hoping he brings it back on a special sometime soon. He said to give him a call and he'll try to accommodate whenever possible to make his customers happy. What an amazing restaurant. We cannot wait to come back and see what's new. Thank you for an amazing dinner and night!

The vibe here definitely meets a park ridge niche that nothing else does - intimate but elevated, a great date night place. Excellent cocktails and decent portions. Tuna tower was a fun app and we ordered lamb chops and a pasta for our mains. My only wish is that they had a slightly larger menu. I hope they add to it or do seasonal offerings because the selection is not too large and we pretty much maxed out what we'd be interested in trying in one visit. But they did it well and we enjoyed the Valentine's Day touched around the restaurant!

We were a little surprised when nothing was done for it, which isn't a big deal, but I'll be honest it was disappointing since we did come specifically to celebrate and had talked about it w our server. 3/5 Arancini - Very salty. None of us really enjoyed them because of that. They also came out lukewarm instead of hot. Would have been excellent if it was less salty and came out hot and crispy. 5/5 Fig & Mushroom (subbed for prosciutto) - The menu doesn't specify how the fig is served. Turned out to be fig jam rather than fresh fig, which wasn't what we expected. A little too sweet for me but overall still very much enjoyed it. Their pizza was cooked perfectly with enough toppings and cheese. Very good pizza! 5/5 Braised Short Rib + Polenta - so good! The short rib was excellent, just slightly salty. The polenta was perfect, and it came with a generous portion of wild mushrooms. 2/5 White Wine Cake (recommended as "unique") by our server - This was the most disappointing meal item. Our waitress told us it was special, but it was very bland and didn't match the description or image on their website. Their website showed a cake with a large scoop of ice cream on top, fair amount of whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Ours came with maybe a quarter of the size of that ice cream scoop, a little teaspoon dollop of whipped cream that you eat in one bite and the raspberry sauce was a tiny smear on bottom for decor but there wasn't enough to actually eat it. The cake itself was moist but lacked flavor. It took a really long time to come out, we thought perhaps they forgot, then forgetting we were celebrating a birthday on top of that was disappointing. Atmosphere - Beautiful space, very well done. The only issue is how close the tables are, you can't pull your chair back without hitting someone, and getting to the bathroom requires asking others to move because of how tight the layout is. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would return. While there were a few dishes we wouldn't order again, and others we would. Would love to try the wild mushroom pizza next time! The only thing was that since we had come to celebrate a birthday and didn't end up doing that, the night felt a little less special than we had expected--but still a nice experience overall.

Although we are from the area, we had never visited before, and the photos immediately caught our attention. The bar fit our vibe perfectly, and after visiting a few times, we knew it was the right place for us. We rented both spaces: the main bar upstairs and Nightshade, the speakeasy downstairs. Moonflower has a small stage in the main bar, which we used for our ceremony. The space already has so much character that it needed very little decorating. We brought small flower vases and an altar piece that the bride and her now mother in law made together. After the ceremony, we held cocktail hour and served food buffet style in the main bar. Later, everyone moved downstairs to Nightshade. Its lounge atmosphere and dance floor were perfect for our 50 to 60 guests. Some people relaxed around the cocktail tables while others danced, so everyone could enjoy the night in their own way. Moonflower's event organizer, Morgan, was wonderful. She made the entire planning process feel easy and was a joy to work with. She helped turn our ideas into reality, assisting with day of logistics, décor, beverage packages, and every question that came up. She was always responsive and available. Morgan also helped us think through details that had not occurred to us, including coffee for our guests, explaining the parking situation, contacting nearby businesses about using their lots, and recommending DJs. We ultimately hired one of the DJs she suggested. Her extra support was incredibly helpful and took a great deal of stress out of planning. If you have not tried Moonflower's drinks, you are missing out. Their regular cocktail menu is fantastic, and our experience was even more special because of a custom cocktail session with Zach. He created signature drink options for each of us based on our tastes and favorite cocktails. Every option was spectacular, and the final drinks felt personal and special. We chose Funeral Potatoes for the food. Since they already handle the food at Moonflower, we were able to try many dishes beforehand. Our guests raved about everything. We especially recommend the brussels sprouts, deviled eggs, and caprese sandwiches. Alexis, who heads up Funeral Potatoes, was also extremely helpful with selecting the menu. The only outside food we brought in was our wedding cake. The entire staff was phenomenal. Everyone treated the occasion with the perfect balance of care, professionalism, and fun. The night went off without a hitch and was truly one of the best nights of our lives. Moonflower was also extremely reasonable compared with other venues we considered in the city, especially with an open bar and food available on site. Street parking was plentiful, and none of our guests had trouble finding a spot. For anyone looking for a relaxed wedding for 50 to 60 people with a memorable lounge atmosphere, fantastic staff, buffet style food, and exceptional cocktails, Moonflower should be at the top of your list.

We made a reservation because I'd heard this place can get pretty busy. Although it didn't seem too crowded when we first arrived on a Saturday, it filled up quickly throughout our meal. I definitely recommend making a reservation, especially if you're planning to come for dinner. As soon as we walked in, I was struck by how beautiful the restaurant is. Since the building was once a church, they preserved the stained-glass windows and cathedral ceilings, which give the space so much character. We ended up sitting on the patio because it was a gorgeous day, but I definitely want to come back and dine inside so I can fully appreciate the interior. The patio was modern, spacious, and completely shaded, making it very comfortable. Since it's located right next to the little lake, we also enjoyed a nice breeze throughout our meal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive overall, but there was one moment that stood out. My friend's baby accidentally knocked over a full glass of iced coffee, spilling it all over my friend's lap and onto the floor. The waitress watched as my friend cleaned up the mess herself but didn't offer to help or replace the spilled drink. Aside from that, the service was good. My friends and I all ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the salmon poke bowl ($19), which was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly refreshing. The ingredients tasted high quality, and all the flavors worked really well together. It was more filling than I was expecting! Price-wise, I expected the menu to be more expensive than it actually was. I'm sure dinner prices are higher, especially for steak and seafood, but the brunch menu was quite reasonable. Most breakfast and brunch dishes range from $12-$20, making it a great value for both the quality of the food and the beautiful atmosphere. Overall, we all enjoyed our experience and I'll for sure be back! I'd love to try other menu items and come for dinner, too!
