It's a wide open concept with lots of seating. The waitress and staff are very attentive. Baked Clams - we nicely breaded taste good Pino Puffs - Shredded zucchini and 3 cheeses formed into a light puffy ball, served with besciamella sauce- was good Potatoe Sausage Soup - ok...it wasn't as creamy as I thought it should be. It was ok Beet Salad, too much dressing. It was ok. Country Rigatoni- Tomato cream sauce with grilled chicken, sliced Italian sausage, peas & fresh mozzarella - nothing to rave about. Nice atmosphere. Clean inside. Service could've been better. We had to flag down a busboy. The host finally came and took our order. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed . Our fish was way overcooked and inedible. No one ever came back to ask how are food was. We did tell them when they can bask and asked for dessert. They offered to get us new fish but it was too late at that point. They did compensate for that and not charge us for it. I might give them another try. read more

The food here is awful and i don't understand the 5 star reviews. Everything I've eaten from here has a terrible taste and literally has made me gag. The last thing I had was spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce had such a bad taste. the meatballs tastes like fish! I gagged and threw it up in my napkin. And it's expensive for such terrible tasting food. I will not order from here again. The food was delicious! The pino puffs were so tasty but after 1-2, it felt a bit salty to me. Pasta dishes came with salad. The warm bread and olive oil was a perfect addition as well. I got the Penne Asiago and it was so delicious. My partner got the Bowtie Chicken, he really enjoyed it but it did felt a bit heavy. All in all a great meal. Thought I was here in the past but family and friends said no. The restaurant had that familiar feel I guess. Nice decor with the brick walls and bar in front. Service was very good. It's a little noisy so you'll need to talk loud to carry a conversation, but other than that, great experience. Complementary valet parking is nice but there's good amount of parking down the street as well. Really enjoyed the chicken with mushrooms with great infusion of Marsala. Maybe a bit less oil would have made it better but it was still a great dish. read more

I had the Special of Fettecini in cream sauce with shrimp and the Pino Puffs. Food is superb. The fettuccini's cream sauce was light with some nice crunchy bread crumb topping. Perfectly cooked pasta, this is a must order again. The Pino Puffs were a big surprise. They had this crunchy slightly oily exterior, and then this perfectly moist interior that you would not expect. The Fettecini was really very good pasta, but I can't stop thinking about the Puffs. The sauce is ok, but the Puffs are good enough to stand on their own. read more

First and foremost the service here as always was impeccable. Never anything but the best from the front of the house. Next, bread and oils were great. The pino puffs were very good. My salad with creamy garlic was mushy and I don't think had creamy garlic. Was not bad but not great. Now the bad. I ordered the bow tie arrosto. I'm not trying to be cruel but the first thing I thought on my first bite was "IHOP Spaghetti". Not great at all, wet, mushy, not a lot of flavor. Maybe the cook was having a bad night but the bow tie noodles actually fell apart when you lifted them with a fork. They've been great in the past, tonight not so much. read more

A friend of mine suggested Nonno Pino's and I'm glad she did. I've been looking at a home in Norwood Park and Edison Park, and she thought it would be a good idea to check out the neighborhood and what it has to offer. A great idea to be sure, because I rarely have a reason to visit Edison Park and, most recently, was driving from home to home trying to squeeze in as many open houses as I could. Nonno Pino's is a great place and is a lively neighborhood gathering place. Though they are open short hours (I think about 5 or so hours per night, though the bar apparently remains open a bit later) the place can fill up quickly. We came on the early end so as not to mess with my daughter's sleep schedule too much, and by the time we left a couple hours later it was well populated. They seem to be able to handle larger groups well; they were arranging to seat a party of 12 when we left, and actually the reason my friend had heard of the place was due to attending a baby shower here in the past. We started with an appetizer of bread with olive oil, which is so good when it's served with a good oil (and this was). As for entrees, I had the pistachio crusted chicken and it was really good. The menu says it's served with asparagus, but really the asparagus is kind of a garnish--you get something like five spears, so that was a disappointment since I love asparagus. Also disappointing is that they seemed to cook the entire spear--even the essentially inedible bottom part of the spear--so that part of the meal could have been better prepared, but it's easy enough to get rid of the inedible end. The polenta cakes that came with it were actually a lot better than I anticipated; I don't think I'm usually much a fan but this was good. My friend got the lasagna and a couple meatballs; I also had considered the lasagna since I never make it myself and I would absolutely get the lasagna next time I visit (and indeed I do expect there to be a next time, especially if I'm find a home to purchase in the area!). The portions were large--I took half my meal home, as did my friend. Even though it's not the most expensive restaurant in the city, and not that out of line for a good Italian place, it's nice that you can potentially get a couple meals out of a visit here. Service was pretty good as well, though once we were ready to go it took longer than expected to get her attention and get our bill; having said that, she was also trying to arrange for the large party, so no harm no foul. I'm not sure that they have a kid's menu, but mine can't eat food yet so it's not something I need to worry about at this point. Kids are welcome, though, as they had a car seat sling for me to place the baby in and that worked pretty well for the time she let me place her in there so I could eat (meaning, scarf things down before she realized she was in a carseat and how dare I). When we were leaving, some folks sitting behind us asked how old my daughter was and we struck up a conversation for a few minutes, which was kind of cool and hopefully bodes well about the friendliness of the neighborhood. As with apparently a few places in Edison Park, they offer complementary valet. There's also some street parking which you can pay for using the ParkChicago app. I think I was a little surprised and confused by the free valet--I'm not sure I've ever been to a place in the city that does valet for free--so I didn't use it, but I found a space just a couple spots down from the door. Next time I visit, I'll certainly consider the valet since it might be easier with a wee one, especially if the only parking is further down the street. read more

We hosted my son and daughter in laws baby shower yesterday and from the moment we booked this event until the last guest walked it the door, the entire staff was amazing. This review is long overdue. Having been disappointed tonight at a different Italian Restaurant/bar today reminded me this positive review about Nonno Pino's was long overdue. My only regret writing this was not picking Nonno Pino's this year for my anniversary. It is my favorite go to Italian Restaurant in the neighborhood. Why? Well, growing up in an Italian Neighborhood as I did, I know good Italian Food and Hospitality. That included ambience. The entire atmosphere makes an Italian Restaurant. The positive: the service, the food, clean, and the atmosphere. It is an Italian Restaurant and Bar that knows how to stay in their lane and does not play horrible techno, music. It stays true to it's roots serving Italian Food with warm gracious hosts and the food to match. It is owned by a couple of guys that are always nice and down to earth. It says a lot about a business when the same people stay working there for a longer period of time. As for the menu we love the Pino Puffs, pistacchio crusted chicken and their chicken vesuvio served on the bone. Their lasagna is very delicious. Their penne pasta with besciamella sauce is our daughter's favorite. I also like their blackened salmon. My husband and I are always hard pressed to find meals we don't like there. We had our daughter's baptism lunch there years ago. Lesson learned. Next year for our anniversary it will be Nonno Pino's for dinner. I am sorry for not going there this year. Food was really delicious and service was so friendly. The grilled calamari and pino puffs are a must! I can understand why they have been highly recommended. The pasta was superb and had enough to bring home. We also ordered a pizza which unfortunately wasn't the best. It was depicted as caramelized onion but it definitely wasn't. The food is excellent, but when they are jammed... they can't handle the crowds. We called ahead and were told we could have a table for 5 at 6:30. We arrived at 6:20 but we'rent seated until 6:45. Once we were seated we received water and bread. But then didn't see our server again for 45! Minutes! The server was super apologetic saying she was "crazy busy".... we had our 2 young daughters with us. I ordered for delivery tonight and all I can say WOW! Delivery came extremely fast. Food was steaming hot as if it literally just finished cooking. I never had anything like these before and it's just delicious. I wish I ordered more! I tried the beet salad which consisted of arugula, roasted beets, mandarin oranges and walnut crusted goat cheese disks served with house vinaigrette and drizzled with honey. Yep I loved it. Staple of Edison park and has been around a long time but left unsatisfied today. Baked clams were very good but the pasta dishes lacked flavor. Now I'm not asking for Chef Gordon Ramsey to be making my pasta sauce but this felt like it was made by his tax accountant, edible but i could have done it myself.
