After reserving a moving truck through the Penske website, my experience quickly turned into a frustrating mess. The first location gave away my truck before my scheduled pickup time, claiming I was "too late" even though I arrived 20 minutes early. They made no effort to contact customer service or help me find another rental. Penske customer service then directed me to a second location, only for me to be told that the truck showing as available was actually pulled for maintenance--again, no truck for me. By this point, I was fed up and made customer service personally call ahead to confirm availability before sending me to a third location. Thankfully, that location finally had a truck ready. I wasted over two hours driving between locations when I should have been packing. The one bright spot in this whole experience was the woman at the third location--she was friendly and helpful, which was a refreshing change from the staff at the first stop. Overall, the process was incredibly disorganized, and I will not rent from Penske again. If you're planning a move, I strongly recommend reading reviews carefully and being prepared for last-minute issues. read more

If I could give this location 0 stars I would. Wasted about 2 hours of my time, after I called them asked if they had the vehicle I needed and if I could pay in cash , was told yes to both. Then I get there and there is no truck available , then they find a truck, then they inform me I can't pay the deposit in cash. So I go to the bank put cash in the bank , come Back to the the office and they then inform me that I need to have the truck back by 8 am which would not be possible for me. No sorry sir, no solution oriented thinking. Just a straight look of stupidity, no regard given for the wasted time or miss information. Worst part is this is the closest one to my location and I'm either going to have to go further just to avoid dealing with this location, or go back and deal with the least professional service staff at any rental company! read more

As I reflect back on 2021 what am I biggest disappointments was the rental of a Penske truck to move myself and family to Washington. I reserved a pensky truck online for August 25th one week prior to the rental I received a phone call from the Carson commercial facility of Penske service Rep name Anthony. he confirmed that I would be picking up at the Home Depot in San Pedro he confirmed time and size of the truck and I was renting one dolly. At that point he also made me aware that I might be receiving a larger truck due to inventory and supply and demand which I understood. On Wednesday the 25th of August I went to the Home Depot in San Pedro to pick up my truck at 6:00 o'clock in the morning which was the scheduled time. The Home Depot employee Jennifer helped us she said that she had no truck available for us to take that one was not delivered from the Penske Carson facility. after time calling different people for Penske she was able to get ahold of somebody and they said they would try to get it over there soon as possible. I didn't stand around there much longer after that I had people showing up to help me move and get things going. Penske's office itself contacted me and let me know that a truck would be going over to Home Depot for me to pick up. The documentation from pensky has the truck being checked out at 6:58 which would not be correct because I was still at the Home Depot at that time. I didn't actually get the truck until 9:00 o'clock (verified by my Home Depot receipt something they could not falsify) that morning now this means three hours of my work time was gone. after receiving the truck I was also informed that they had no more dollies available even though I had pre requested it on my order. I had to end up buying a Dolly from Home Depot. I guess good for Home Depot! that same day as my truck was getting loaded I called Penske and Carson and spoke with Anthony to let him know I was extremely dissatisfied with what was going on today. that I stayed to what I said I would do and that Penske did not hold up their end of the bargain. some people might say it was only three hours three hours of my time was very important. Anthony said he would give me a 10% discount which is a military discount he said. I told him I was very unsatisfied with that and I would like his manager of this facility to call me when he had a moment, that was the last I heard from Penske. the reason I picked Penske is that my company had used their commercial rental services for many years and we were very satisfied. well I did not do is go and read reviews from people renting vehicles from them. this was a great disappointment to me not only did it cost me additional time for loaders but it also put me behind schedule for my travel. my word of advice is do not believe what they say and stay on top of them unfortunately I'm sure you'll use some excuse like the pandemic short staff or whatnot but the bottom line is they don't care about with small customers they only care about the commercial accounts. read more

We ended renting a penske truck and I have never been so disappointed. We booked at the Carson location near my house. I called the day before and they said they'll call me back about the truck. 2 hours later, I had to call them again! We arrived at opening hours to find that there was no 26ft stake bed that we had reserved. They claimed there was an emergency and they had to give our reservation away to someone else. They sent us to the city of industry. The clunker they gave us was not a stake bed but a manual transmission flat bed. We had to stop by the store to buy extra straps to secure the load. While on the road, we had a terrifying experience. The alignment is way off. The steering wheel is crooked and the truck pulls to the right. To keep it in a straight line, you had to hold the wheel a little to the left. Driving up the 5 freeway is a little bumpy. You feel it violently in this truck. Everything shakes! The truck slightly loses control on the bumps and we have to hold the steering wheel securely to keep it in a straight line. After returning the truck and informing them of the issues, they told us "sorry, yeah we'll check it out. Here's your bill!" We were hesitant to accept the wrong truck at the wrong location but we had a load that needed to be delivered. After this frightening experience, I definitely won't be renting penske or recommending you guys to others. What a terrible experience! read more

I spoke with Jeremy at Penske and he was very apologetic. He said he would make sure things were taken care of and the truck would be repaired so nobody else is put into a situation like we were in. I never asked for anything but Jeremy reimbursed me for the 2 hours we were late paying our movers and he even threw in a little extra for the inconvenience of a 38 hour trip taking over 60 due to stopping all the time because the windshield washers didn't work and the governor that controlled the top speed was set beneath the posted speed limit. I would give them another chance just because Jeremy was so nice and did everything he could to make it better for me without me having to ask him for a thing. read more

So I was rushing to move and couldnt find a truck. Usually I got with Uhaul but I wasnt pleased the last time I used them so decided to go with Penske. Valerie and Eddie were SOOOOO PLEASANT. They didnt have any trucks originally but they literally went and found me a truck(it was still wet lol) and they helped me get the best price for it. The truck was clean and ran well. Worst truck rental place I've ever been to. We use Penske for truck rentals and over the last 3 visits prebooking 4 trucks they haven't had any of them. If they are not there they give a time frame of when they will be and then still the trucks don't arrive. I have no idea why they take a booking and then can't fulfil it. It's far to long to go into all the reasons why as I'm basically tired of hearing their excuses. My advice is to stay clear of these branch or company depending on how bad you need a truck. Some trucks are new but most are old. We rent everything from 12ft to 52ft and the majority of the time something is wrong with the truck. The only good thing about this branch would be the staff. They are friendly and it's not their fault that the company is pretty bad. I wish I could give zero stars but I have to give 1 to leave a review and that will be for the staff. read more

This 5 star is mainly for the last min request for a truck that other companies did not have available on the same day. I had bikes Uhaul online the night before our move, then got a call the following morning from the uhaul location letting me know that they don't have ANY trucks available, and not sure how I was able to book one online. So I scrambled from one company to the next, and to no avail. But when I called Penske, they found the truck size I wanted in a nearby location, and got great AAA discount from it. The other good good need was that we only had to pay $66 to fill up the tank for a drive from Long Beach to Vegas! - and only needed to fill up upon returning the 26ft truck. I wish I could remember the name of the phone customer service because she was extremely friendly and saved us a huge headache. Thank u sooooo much! read more

What a headache. We rented a Penske truck from a Home Depot store for a personal residential move for 1 day only. When we rented the truck, they took a $300 deposit, and we were supposed to be refunded upon return for unused mileage, etc. We returned the truck and were told our refund amount. We signed off on it and went on our way. A couple of weeks later, I noticed our credit card had the charge with the deposit on it, but no refund credited to it. We called the Home Depot store (who I'm sure is at least in some way involved in this headache, too) and they acknowledged there was an error with Penske and the refund had never been issued. They told us we had to call the Penske headquarter place in Carson to deal with it. We called Penske and we were told that, although we preferred the refund to go directly back on our credit card like we were told it would, it would be easier for THEM if they could just send us a check for the amount owed. Fine. A couple more weeks go by and we realize the check never came in the mail. We call Penske again and explain the issue. They asked who it was that we had talked to and agreed on receiving a check. Uh, I don't know! I recognize it is always best practice to get the names of everyone you speak to in customer service situations such as this, but we had simply failed to get the girl's name. But from our perspective, who cares who it was? You admit you have a small office so SOMEONE there messed up. It's not our problem who it was that failed at their job - just fix it! In hind sight, considering they have such a small operation there, we think SHE may have been the one who we talked to the first go around and that she had messed up and didn't want to tell her boss. Ha. She's probably glad we hadn't written down her name that first time. Anyway, she claimed she couldn't help us that day because her boss wasn't in the office. Great. We called again the next day and expressed that this was a problem and needed to be corrected immediately. They had owed us money for a month at this point. She said she'd need to talk to her boss and then call us back. Fine. She finally calls us back and says they will send us a check. Yeah, I've heard that one before. So supposedly the check is on its way to us, but what a hassle and time consumer and unnecessary hard work just to get our own money back. Not worth it! We will not be using this company again for any of our future moving needs, nor will we be recommending them. Super unorganized and unprofessional. On top of it all? I don't know where she got this information from. We did ask for a quote a few weeks ago. We decided to call her back to let her know they made a mistake, instead of saying thank you for letting us and apologizing for their mistake she decided to answer back very rudely. She decided it would be a good idea to say she never said we had a reservation. She also snapped back saying what the problem was... then put us on hold... putting us on hold meant let me hang up on you. Thanks Penske! Customer service goes a very very long way. After 45 minutes on hold with a total of 3 different people, I was finally told that the only place that had a truck was 20 miles away from me and that I would have to go get it there. Excuse me!?!?! I was offered a 30% discount by the woman on the phone with me and when I told her that that wasn't good enough since I was now going to be well over an hour behind schedule and was paying my help that she would have to do better than that. She responded with a very condescending tone. Wait a minute... who made the mistake? Oh yeah that's right... PENSKE! This review is for Yeisen at the Penske Truck Rental in Carson, Ca. I wish I could give this gentlemen 10 stars. I originally had an appointment with Budget Truck Rental in Torrance, Ca for Saturday (5/30/20). I flew from Texas to California so that I could move my furniture from my storage room and transport it to Texas. I confirmed my reservations with Budget call center the day before I flew out there. I had a friend to call and confirm with the main office the morning of (because I was on a plane at the time they opened). I had a strict schedule in tact. Land in California at 11:00a. The truck was scheduled for pick up at 12:00p. Movers/helpers scheduled to meet me at Public Storage at 2:30p. Leave on Sunday at 4am to drive back to Texas. However, when I arrived at Budget...they did not have a truck for me and couldn't find one. I waited in the lobby for 45 minutes until I decided to get on the phone and contact Penske in Carson. Yeisen assisted me and provided me with a quote for a 24' truck (only one available at that time). I could not afford the amount that was quoted to me. My reservations with Budget was for a 16' truck, insurance included for $2,099. After I told him that I could not afford to pay that amount, his exact words were, "well ma'am how much were you expecting to pay?" I then explained to him my situation with Budget. He said, "may I ask who your previous reservations is with and how much were you going to pay?" I then told him and he said, "this is a very busy time for us and our competitors as well which is why it's probably hard for them to locate you a truck, but let me see what I can do to help you." He was very professional. Never did he say anything bad about Budget. He came back on the phone and said, "will you be able to provide proof of the quote that you have from Budget?" I said yes! He said, "well I can offer you a 24' truck from our LAX location with insurance included for $2,000." I was in tears. I was able to pick up the truck at 12:30 and keep my schedule. I thanked him so much. He said, "ma'am you are so welcome. All I ask is if you can give me/us (Penske) a good Yelp review?" I said, MOST CERTAINLY. So here I am. Budget had me completely stressed. I originally wanted a Penske truck anyway because I think their trucks are better, but the price was not in my Budget, which is why I made the reservations with "Budget". THANK YOU AGAIN YEISEN! How fabulous, after driving four days from Florida to Miami it was so refreshing to meet Ernesto at the Penske truck rental return. He was just fantastic. Ernesto made us feel so comfortable and took care of everything. I offered to give him a tip because he was so great and he refused it. I though the least I would do was write a review. Penske truck rental was also great from start to finish. We rented the truck in Hollywood, Fl at the home Depote in Oakwood Plaza. I cannot remember the lady who helped us in Hollywood, fl but she was expected to have a baby any day. She was just lovely and full of energy. She was detailed, organized and wonderful. First, already had rented from Penske over the years and this would be the third truck trip in 12 months for a MA to FL run. Penske was always less expensive than U-Haul for 1500 mile, one-way rentals. Previous trips had zero issues. Clean trucks. Rode well. For the most recent move, we originally reserved a 16' truck, but a week before, changed to a 22-footer. Penske called, as we were driving to pick it up, and said they didn't have a 22' truck, but they had a 26-foot truck. So we took the larger truck, even though we didn't need it. They did give us a fair discount on the price because of the late notice, so we paid somewhere in between the price of the 16' and the 22'. Also, we had originally reserved 4 dozen moving blanks and upped that to 8 dozen when we changed the truck size. They only had 4 dozen available on pick-up day. [This location is not a Penske corporate site. It is a service by a storage place.] On a good day, the truck rode harshly and the cab, with A/C on full, was still hot. My wife's soap melted in her bag. But the truck ran. On day two, we were about 35 miles north of Jacksonville, FL when the Check Engine light went on. We called Penske. They scheduled a guy to look at it. "He should be there in 60-75 minutes." (We had made it into the just-down-the-road-so-close-you-can-see-it Florida Welcome Center.) We waited 2 hours for him to show up. He said it looks like a fuel injector, "Let's go to Penske. Maybe they can get you back on the road." So off we go to the Penske garage. Nice folks. Sal, the manager, said we can drive you to your hotel, we'll call you when it's fixed. If we can't fix it, we'll have another truck and a crew to move your goods. They made us feel they would take care of us. A fellow named Duane hooked up a PC and he determined that it was an informational Check Engine light as opposed to a Stop Right Now Check Engine light. He ran full diagnostics. We passed and got back on the road. All told 3.5 hours wasted. $40 in tips. And a curse for whoever designed that error message. I filled in a survey for Penske after the rental and told them the story. All I wanted was for the next renter to not have the same problems. Never expected anything from Penske other than a thank you for filling in the survey. Two months later, I get an e-mail from the Customer Development Manager in Florida. He says he was very sorry for the problems we had and issued a $300 credit to our credit card. Also offered a discount on the next Florida rental. I was really blown away by that. Penske went out of its way to make a customer happy - and that customer hadn't even complained. Penske stays #1 in my book. read more

I wish I could give one star. I rented a truck from their satellite facility at Home Depo in Signal Hill, CA (Long Beach) reserved it on Thursday online for that following Saturday morning 9am. I got a call from Penske confirming my reservation on Friday. Saturday morning I arrive at 8am to get the truck and was told it wasn't there yet. I go back in the office at 8:55 I'm told I had to go to the Carson location and get the truck because they didn't have anyone to bring the truck to the Home Depo location. I call the Carson location and he says yes you have to come get the truck because I don't have anyone to bring to the Signal HIll location. I say cancel my order I'll let your corporate office know about this, he then says I can bring the truck over right now. No thanks it's already after 9am we had enough of the unprofessional. Sent a letter to there corporate office and got a call after a week, weak apology and bunch of excuses. I've never and will never use this company again. Their prices are the same as Uhaul but Uhaul is way better never experienced this with Uhaul. If you need a truck and don't have time for issues don't use this company. read more
