Searched the CarMax website for a few weeks to find the car matching the year, make, model, color and features our family wanted. It was in Arizona however. Had it transferred to CarMax Torrance for a nominal fee and a representative had walked us through the process for purchase and kept us up-to-date as to when the vehicle would reach their location. When the car arrived, it was inspected over a few days then prepared for pick up at a certain time. There was a slight issue with the paperwork where another representative had made a typo which caused a delay in pick-up. Had to wait for a few hours for the documentation to be redone. But when all the forms had been completed and approved, we were able to drive off. Despite the hiccup during the first attempt to accept the car, the professionalism shown by the staff was exemplary. Would definitely recommend others to do business at this location.

Brought a vehicle to Car Max to sell since we didn't want to deal with placing ads and meeting up for test drives. We received an offer which was valid for 7 days. Price they offered was fair and the process was seamless. They require the title and vehicle registration to complete the sale. If you have only 1 key they will adjust the price down. Luckily we had both so not sure what the adjustment would be. If 2 owners are on the title with an "or", then just 1 person needs to sign off. Car Max will handle all the DMV paperwork. Just remember to cancel your auto insurance for the vehicle. We walked out with a check after a short wait. Easy peasy.

I went there twice to get their estimate on my cars, it's as straight forward and easy as you'd expect from what they're known for. Most used car dealers ask their potential selling customers to get a Carmax estimate before they make offers, I see why now. Because CarMax gave low end offers. The first car they offered $40,000, I sold it two weeks later at $50,000 with three committed buyers, I took the one came with cashier's checks from the same bank I use, and rest in cash, willing to meet at my bank to verify and deposit them before I sign off the pink slip. The second car they offered $11,000, I sold it the next day at $17,500 with two committed buyers, I took the one came with cash in his wife's purse and willing to meet at my bank to use the bank's machine to count bills. I fully understand most people are unwilling to go through the process to sell their own cars, as some people think the lines at Costco gas station is too long for them to save $0.90~$1.00 a gallon. I get it. What I'm saying is, CarMax is the easiest way to sell your car, but you are paying dearly for the convenience.

Ripoff don't sell them your car. They will lowball you by at least $1500. Auto Nation gave me a great price.

    Ask the Community - CarMax

How long does it take to sell my car to you?

Hi Fernando - Thanks for reaching out! While the time it takes to complete the selling process can vary at each CarMax location, you can get a real offer in minutes by visiting https://www.carmax.com/sell-my-car

Can they help finance people with bad/no credit with no co-signer ? I'm trying to build credit and am in need of a vehicle to drive to work and school and am self employed with door dash and postmates .

Yes.. They have lenders who provide loans to all types of credit. Your financing rate will be high because of your credit.

Carmax made it an extremely easy process, but most of all my sales rep, Robert Ota, made it an amazing experience.

As a nice bonus, CarStub also honored their referral program and gave him a $50 gift certificate for referring me. One of the biggest advantages for me was the convenience. As someone with a busy schedule, I appreciated that they came directly to me rather than requiring me to drive somewhere and spend hours waiting around. It made the entire process much easier to fit into my day. After providing some basic information over the phone, I scheduled a convenient time for them to come out and inspect the vehicle. Robert reached out ahead of time to let me know he was running earlier than expected, which I appreciated. Once he arrived, he took the time to explain the process and perform a thorough inspection. There was no pressure or hard-selling involved. If you have a realistic price range in mind, the negotiation process is straightforward and respectful. After agreeing on a price, we completed the paperwork on the spot, and I received payment the same day while arrangements were made to pick up the vehicle. What stood out most was the customer service. Robert needed one additional document after the sale and was willing to work around my schedule, even returning the following Monday to make the process as convenient as possible. Selling a car can often be stressful, but this experience was refreshingly hassle-free. Between the mobile service, same-day payment, and attentive customer service, I can see why they came highly recommended. If I ever need to sell another used vehicle, I wouldn't hesitate to work with Robert and the CarStub team again.
