I love this place! Every staff member I've encountered there is super friendly. I'm giving this place 5 stars solely because of the deals you get here. Some things are difficult to find the price for, especially if there's only one or two left of the item. Some items for sale should absolutely be thrown in the trash (heavily damaged canned goods). Lots of expired food (however, many expiration/best by dates are more of a suggestion rather than a rule). For over four years, this store has been integral to me saving up money and paying off my debt. It's also the grocery store that I enjoy visiting more than any other store. I'm an adventurous eater, and I really enjoy that they are constantly rotating the products that they offer. Whatever your dietary preference is, this place has plenty of plant-based, gluten-free, and organic options. The prices here are crazy cheap, and in addition to the already cheap prices, they feature many discount days, coupons, and freebies for when you complete your purchase. The employees I've encountered here over the years have all ranged from pleasant to extremely friendly. They play great music too, haha. I saw a Facebook post about a great deal on canned cat food at Peoria Discount Grocery. I had never been, but the promise of an affordable way to feed my foster cats lured me in. The cat food, like most of the items I encountered at this store, was slightly expired. However, I believe that is the understanding when shopping at stores like this. The cat food was an amazing price and my fosters will be well fed for quite awhile for a measly $40. The cashier was also super sweet and made my day by complimenting my tattoos. Along with some great finds here comes many expired products. As long as you're aware of that, it's a shopping adventure! It reminded of the Grocery Outlet chain from years ago. It takes forever to see the whole store, which we did! My purchases included pound bags of ground Starbucks for 3.99, instant oatmeal single cups for 25 or 50 cents, cinnamon Coke and ginger Hint water. Some of the best deals are on items that are more expired/past their best by dates than others. There are also great deals on items that not expired. Great deals extend to pet foods as well. Just like the people food, experation dates need to be checked. Purchase within whatever dates you are comfortable with. Peoria Discount Grocery is my go to for stocking up on snacks. Great place. Like others have pointed out, yes somethings are expired - you know what? I don't care if my chips or crackers are out of date. Big deal. Soda's at a fraction of the price. Now somethings, I am a bit leery of - and knowing that I just walk on by - kinda like if you don't like someones opinion online you too can scroll on by - and we all know how often that happens.... but in any case Give yourself a good hour the first time as there are many sections from cleaning, to coffee to household to even diapers in addition to traditional canned and packaged goods. They're a bit far from me, but I took a drive to them, bc who doesn't a love a good deal, right? They have the Izze drinks, you can buy a case for so much cheaper then a 4pk .. that sold me right there, lol. You definitely need to walk around and look in all corners, bc there's so much there. I love this store. It is a hidden treasure. If you need to drive a way, it is worth it. I hate to write a review because I don't want everyone going there buying up all the good stuff. The prices are unbelievably low. When prices keep going up in the grocery store, Peoria Discount Grocery is the place to go. Just be aware that they do not take cash so that they won't be robbed. They close at 7pm. This is a family owned business and everyone that works there is so kind. It is going to a family grocery in the old days. I've been 3 times now. It's not getting better. I love the idea of the place. But the execution is flawed by too much old food and too-high prices. When is the price too high? When the old item is priced at parity or at times higher than I can get it at the dollar stores (cleaning products, paper products miscellaneous items), or even at Costco (pet supplies, food and treats). You will find bargains, but for every bargain, there will be another item priced too high. Many of the prices are barely below what local groceries are charging for the same or highly equivalent items. Except at the grocery store, the items are fresh. I noticed the store has increased prices on some items that were already on the shelf, priced lower in November, still there in March. Don't discount stores keep discounting merch until it's sold? There are deals, and there are many unique items. You need to search carefully and thoroughly, paying attention that the item you think you want isn't very past-date, or might be a peculiar version of a product that you thought was something else, such as an odd flavor or color or design. Foods purchased that have gone in the trash after sampling now include 3 bags of chips, a 12 pack of diet pepsi (sweetener had broken down and tasted bitter), and a box of instant oatmeal. First of all, you can't compare this to a normal grocery store, if you expect it to be a fancy store, go back to AJ's and pay 10x more. This place is great on a budget, you guys! Not everyone can afford full priced items, like myself, and I'll humbly admit that, because this store makes me feel like I'm rich! I found so many delicious organic snacks for a fraction of the price! For example, I saw real vanilla that I've seen at Sprout's for $8, and I got it there for $3! Whaaat?! I filled up my pantry for about $80 and went to snack heaven! If you're afraid of expiration dates, open your eyes and LOOK at the dates!!!!
