I had a great experience at Pep Boys today, with special thanks to the manager, Cody and his team. I had some worn tires and one in particular that had a slow leak. Initially, I had planned on purchasing tires, but had second thoughts and asked Cody if he could diagnose the leaky tire. Without hesitation, he and his team did their best to repair, and when unable, he did a great job of explaining what the issue was. At that time, I moved onto full tire replacement and Cody did a great job helping me pick something that suited my needs and my budget. Within an hour, I was good to go. Unbelievably bad. They installed the incorrect tires on my vehicle. Manufacturers require parts to meet a certain metrics, if you don't know that, you have no business working in auto repair. Instead of owning up to their error and fixing the issue, they keep coming up with ridiculous excuses. After a couple of weeks of going back and forth with Cody and Pep Boys customer service, I had the correct tires put on the vehicle by another shop. The other shop installed the new tires and balanced all four wheels in an hour and a half. It took Pep Boys three and a half hours to do the same job. The other shop also charged me about $100 less. So to sum this all up: Pep Boys charged me more money to install the incorrect part and took more than twice the amount of time as the other shop to accomplish the same task. Terrible. They wasted a ton of my time and then couldn't order the tires I wanted? I get them not having the tires on hand but not being able to order tires? I checked and several other shops and even Wal-Mart could order the tires I was looking for. Something wrong with this place. When I was looking at the reviews I couldn't help but notice there are a lot of one and two star reviews and then many others with five stars? Very odd. Avoid this place! read more

Worked 17 years for them (wholesale) as a commercial sales manager. Company sold to Ichan and started to shift to tires/service only. Happy departure in 2016 and looked back. Never used tire/service locations and never will. read more

I couldn't have had a better experience. I needed a few things done on my car. But didn't make an appointment. Being a walk in I was not sure I'd be able to get in. But, Steve the front service manager was amazing in getting my car in. He was very professional & friendly from start to finish. Especially when from what I could tell they were very busy. I really appreciate him going above & beyond to get my car taken care of and most importantly in a timely manner. I'd recommend them to all my family & friends without question. Great customer service, good rates and again very professional & friendly staff! I've finally found a great car repair & maintenance shop! Which is very rare these days. I made an appointment for front-end alignment. Drove an hour to get there. Told me it would take about one hour. One hour later they told me that my tires were too worn to do the job. Never tried to tell me before that. But were ready to give me a price for new tires! F'n scam!! Never asked about my tires when I made the appointment. Lost three hours of my day off dealing with this incompetent business! Never again!! Total suck show! read more

This Pep Boys used to be okay, but lately they are a total mess. TWICE I was told parts were ordered for a repair to be completed, but they never ordered the damn parts. My car sat in their yard for days waiting for the repair parts. Seems they're having problems hiring and keeping good service people and mechanics, and now they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. My last two experiences with them have been such frustrating experiences that now I'm all done patronizing their poor service. read more

Placed online order last weekend for 4 new tires. Called store and they told me the tires would have to be ordered, so made appointment for tires to be installed today. Get to appointment only to find they don't have the tires! A phone call to let me know that would have been appreciated. read more

Went in to get new tires and the salesman said I needed new brakes for $600+. Thankfully I did not have Pepboys do the brake work. A week later went to a local mechanic and he said the brakes look great and do not need to be replaced. Will never step inside a Pepboys again. read more

Since bringing my wife's car in for an overdue inspection sticker - on a Saturday - I'm hooked. Their hours fit MY schedule - 7 days a week! Their prices are very competitive, and I am delighted with their attentiveness and polite service reps! My daughter came back from Boston and had a problem with an inside-the-wheel-well panel that had come loose and was rubbing on a tire. They got us right in, fixed the problem (with a smile and a few screws), and didn't charge us!!! Bought new wiper blades and they came out in the rain, changed them out and discarded the old ones and the packaging, at no extra charge! I usually prefer local shops, but these folks have made me into a raving fan! read more

I had just bought a used vehicle 3 days ago. I was making a turn while in Auburn and my power steering went out. I called pep boys which was just down the road. I was able to get it there and while they couldn't promise to look at it that day they did. They quickly found the problem and fixed it. I was expecting to have a large bill associated with this repair. When I went to pick my vehicle up it was even lower than I anticipated. Many larger auto chains will upcharge or even pad bills to meet quotas. I am glad to say they went above and beyond. I just wish there were more of these chains in Maine. read more

My boyfriend arrived a half hour early for a 11AM appt to have his emissions system smoked for leaks. After waiting an hour and fifteen minutes, and the vehicle not moving from the parking lot, he asked the manager what the holdup was and was given the excuse of "I told the tech to pull your vehicle in an hour ago. We've had another vehicle with parts issues...." He was told his vehicle would be pulled in right then and the smoke test (which usually takes 45 minutes) would be 15-20 minutes. Nearly two hours after his appt was to begin, he was rung out and sent on his way without given so much as a courtesy apology for the delay and inconvenience. Ms Manager - your poor business practice has resulted in loss of our future business. read more

I took my car to Pep Boys in Auburn to have the battery checked, as it had not started and I had to have a neighbor jump start my car earlier in the week. It was running fine, and they told me the battery was okay, but when I got in the car and started to drive it, it began an incessant beeping with no indication on the dash what it was. The mental defective of a clerk tried to tell me it was an electrical problem and told me where I should take it. In other words, they would not admit it was something the idiots did when they were checking the battery - i.e., whether they hit something, or did something to cause it to continually beep. I don't believe in coincidences, and it isn't. I'm originally from New York, but I'll tell you that New York has nothing on Maine. I've never met more shysters in my life than I have here! No wonder I refer to this State as Wyoming East. They are just as knowledge resistant here as they are there. These shysters have done something to my car, and they're not about to admit it, and now I have this problem and have to spend money to have fixed what they should have. They have closed their parts department in this fly-by-night store, and they should be closing the service department if the way I was treated today was any indication of the pi$$-poor service they offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I had a seriously loud noise in my car in Nov. 2013 and went to them as they are open on Saturday. They told me I would need new bearings in the front and some type of joint on the back end replaced. They also told me my oil was way down and topped it off for free (thus the two stars instead of one). They said they would call me back with an estimate. I waited until Weds with no news so I stopped by. They told me that they hadn't been able to find the parts but would get back to me. Here it is January 2014 and I've yet to receive a call. In the meantime, I found a local mechanic who works for himself (over 25 years) and he oiled a belt and balanced the tires and the noise is gone. Charged me $20. read more

Made an appointment to have my rear pads and rotors replaced. Got there and they had no record of the appointment. They squeezed me in and did the work. Was told there were no issues with the repair. Drove the vehicle about 50 miles the next day and noticed one of the wheels was really heating up. My wife took it back to Pep Boys the next day and they told her everything was fine. I took it for another drive (about 10 miles) and the wheel was heating up. Stopped by the store and they said it must be a collapsed brake line. They ordered the parts and called me when they came in (about a week later than they said they would be in). I made an appointment to bring the car back in. My wife showed up at the appointed time and they had no record of the appointment. They squeezed her after she had to wait over an hour. We won't be doing business with them again. Don't even know if they actually fixed the problem yet. Will check when I get home but I still will not be doing anymore work with them. Should have gone to VIP. read more

you can gauge the quality of a business by the way they handle problems , hey lets face it things are gonna go wrong once and a while , you can have a communication issue , anything. i had break pads done in auburn maine and felt i was treated unfairly,i got to say ,they answered every email sent , called when they said the would, and we were able to come to an agreement that works for both of us.......THX PEPBOYS read more

Last may 2014 I went in for ball joints and tie rods. Service was good. Until I went somewhere to get a inspection sticker. I got three ball joints. The car place told me a lower ball joint on the left was bad. I went to my records from pep boys all they had marked down was lower ball joint. So I drove all the way their and they said sorry all we can do is warranty the part because we don't know which one. So I had to call the corporate. They found the records and told me it was the right. If they can't tell you on the details on the paper its the fault they should of fixed it. Never again will I step foot in a pep boys besides for my free tire rotation and road hazard. read more

Customer service manager Neisa Browne is consistently helpful and knowledgable about car problems. She is courteous and quick to offer assistance and it's also nice to see a female working there since l feel a bit out of my element at most auto parts stores! They always have good sales and clearance items too. All the employees are polite and friendly so it makes it a pleasant experience all around. read more

First let me just say that the employees are pusher then a used car sales men! The minute someone finally helped us all she did was push stuff on us! The reasoning for us coming in was for an inspection sticker, but we ended up getting a managers special with what was supposed to be a tire rotation(which was never done), windshield wipers, oil change and air filter. So after the inspection was done I ended with a list of things that were supposedly wrong with my car. I was told I needed a sway bar link(which was correct), 2 tires, a blinker bulb, headlights cleaned an alignment and check the e brake. All this added up to a little over $400. We decided not get the work done just then. Instead we checked the blinkers (as soon as we left) and all the outside lights on the car, and low and behold they all worked unlike we were told! After discovering this I felt like I was trying to be taken for a fool and I have no trust at all in the company. I ended up taking my car to another garage and having the sway bar link fixed and getting an inspection sticker at the same time because nothing else was wrong with my car besides the sway bar. I don't know how many people have been taken advantage of, but I'm glad I was not one! I feel like I was trying to be scammed by the company. I will let other people know not to go to Pep Boys because they will end you paying for more then you need! read more
