The Pep Boys location on Baltimore Pike, Bel Air, MD, really-nailed BOTH! Mgr. CJ Herron & Svc. Advisor Julie Ament were both ACES. Brought my wheels for tread wear warranty on new vehicle Michelin tires. They examined my tires (tread, dry rot, etc.) and wrote up a report for Michelin which was accepted for pro-rating. Subsequently purchased new tires and alignment from Pep Boys, which had CJ picking up and delivering my vehicle with its new rubber. Great job! Highly-recommend these folks and location. read more

Don't go here unless you have time to waste. I made a yelp account just for this place because I'm so pissed off. I had a blow out on the road and now I'm riding on a donut that's steadily going flatter and flatter and I won't be able to even get to work tomorrow. If you don't have the available time then you DON'T PUT THOSE TIMES ON YOUR WEBSITE!!!! You don't allow potential customers who are in need to make an appointment and then call them 15 minutes later while they're driving to let them know you can't do the job in the allotted time. read more

I had 4 new tires replaced and my tire sensor light came on. There was some issues trying to get them to show they didn't break it. I came back in and worked with the manager CJ he fixed all the issues with no problem. CJ is great and knows customer service !! read more

Went to take my car for a check engine light issue, told me they fixed it. Within a day the check engine light comes back on, took it back again and they said they "fixed" the issue, then within five minutes of driving it, comes back on AGAIN. Asked to get a refund and the supervisor gives an attitude and tells me to bring the car back in and if there's a light they'll refund the money. I then proceeded to bring the car back and they check the light again and say that since it's a different check engine code, there's nothing that they can do as far as refunds go. Why waste my time going to grab the vehicle and drive back and for them to not do anything about it. Will not be returning at all read more

if I could leave no stars I would. long story made short. I made an appointment on wed to have my car inspected on Friday so I could go to DMV on sat at 9:45 to register my car before the cost of registration went from 135.00 to 233.00. my appointment at pepboys was @10am, I dropped it off at 8am. at 4:30 pm I was called and told they wouldn't be able to inspect that day due to only having one tech doing inspections. when I dropped my car off at 8am they knew how many people were working and I should have been told that at the time of drop off and if not , at least by noon. instead they waited till 4:30pm when it was too late to go somewhere else. to make it worse, when I showed up to pick my car up, the manager (that looked like he was barely over 21). was the same person I dropped my car off to and when I went to my car over by the bay doors, there was only one car in one of the 6 bays and no one was working on it but there were two techs sitting in the garage on their phone. read more

They did call but I had my phone on silent and that was only 20 minutes before my appointment but I was already driving here at that time. Never going back or recommending this place. My day started with a dead battery. Called Auto Zone and they confirmed having the battery and being able to install. Come to find out they can't install because the battery in a Mini Cooper is covered. Called Pep Boys and spoke with Brandon. Yes, they can install the battery and they were close by. Talk about great and competent service!! So, yes, I will take my car there again and recommend all of you do. Honest and competent mechanics. You capfuls not ask for more! read more

My sister-law was having trouble starting her car. We were able to get it started after multiple "hot shots." We called multiple Pep Boys as the one nearby didn't have a mechanic available on Sunday. We drove 30 minutes to the Hartford County location to get the battery and starter tested, however when I asked if there was any charge...the service technician told me it would cost 60 dollars and would take over an hour??!!! I had already researched the cost for starter part at Salvo at $250 dollars but I was told by the technician that it would cost double at Pep Boys for the part. At this point, it was clear to me that the service technician thought I was stupid enough to simply accept his price gouging. I immediately excused myself and called Pep Boys in Dundalk Maryland and asked how much they charge to test my starter and battery and the technician responded...."It would cost $17.69." I can't explain where the Harford County technician found $42.31 worth of additional labor to connect a testing device to the starter and battery but I was not going to be the idiot to pay them for it. I decided to go to neither Pep Boys locations!!! Instead I went directly across the street to Auto Zone where they happily tested my battery and starter for FREE!!! My complaint is not about Pep Boys charging me to test my starter...just because Auto Zone does it for free doesn't mean Pep Boys should also. However to have a technician attempt to blatantly over charge me 60 dollars to test a starter is an insult to my intelligence! But then to have $17.69 as the price quoted to me from another Pep Boys for the same service is INSANE. Unfortunately many people are not informed enough to know that they are being taken advantage of financially at this location. So as much as I don't like writing negative reviews, I could not in good conscience keep silent. Please avoid the Harford County location to get your car repaired if at all possible. read more

This is a good car care center. I brought my car in for a variety of work and all was done expertly. They are reputable and honest. There was an error on my bill and they corrected it quickly and without questions. I would recommend this business to anyone looking for auto maintenance or repair. read more

I had a good experience getting my car safety inspection done here. I called ahead of time and they said if I dropped it off at 1 pm they would have it done a 5 pm. They called me at around 3 pm to update me with some inspection results, one of which involved the window tint on my car. Basically, my car "failed" inspection because it had tinted windows and in order for it to pass, they would have to test the tint for an extra $25 to find out if it was within the legal limit. Ridiculous given that the inspection already costs $75 and literally all you have to do is stick a light intensity meter to the window, but this isn't a Pep Boys rule - it's the MVAs so Pep Boys isn't to blame for the extra charge. At the end of the day, my car passed and the staff were great at updating me on the phone with the results and getting the car done by 5 pm. read more

This store is a Rip Off and needs to be avoided at all costs. I bought 4 brand new tires. First they up sell me to what are supposed to be better tires than the good years I had pIcked out. A few days after install one tire was low on air. I went back to the store and was informed they installed the tire incorrectly and all 4 had to be removed and reinstalled. After that a few days later the tire is flat again. I went back and they told me it had a pin hole leak and charged me $20 to patch it. A few days later the tire on the opposite side was now flat. I went back and they claimed it was a different tire that now had a pin hole leak and wanted me to pay $20 to have it patched. Manager could care less. The tire was never fixed correctly and developed terrible cupping within a month. Went to mavis and had to have new tires put in. Guess what? when they pulled the tire off it had no patches inside. They showed me. Pepboys totally scammed me. Don't fall victim like I did. Avoid them and go somewhere else. Trust me!!! Oh and no more leaking tire. read more

I keep being impressed with the integrity and competence of the auto service technicians at Pep Boys here in Bel Air. I had two vehicles serviced there in two days. My wife and I have taken our cars there for several years and have always found their prices to be far below the prices of nearby car dealership service centers. Yesterday they worked tenaciously to acquire an obscure but vital part for our very old Honda Civic and then took care of the job for less than 50% of the price they originally quoted. Today, Nick was able to go through a laundry list of repairs that a dealership insisted I urgently needed on another vehicle. Nick found that the prices were wildly inflated above what his shop charged. One technician, Chris, proved himself to be a prime example of professionalism--totally ethical, very intelligent, well-spoken, and very respectful. When he saw that the brake fluid did not need to be changed as the dealer service center had urged, he doubted the legitimacy of the recommendations and asked if he could double check everything on the list. "Please do," I asked. To my surprise a few other items on the list were in fine condition and needed no treatment. He spoke with clarity and technical specificity that revealed his intelligence and expertise, and he showed me the evidence of his claims. This of course gained my confidence in him. Bottom line: the $1,600+ that was strongly recommend by a dealership service center turned into a bill of about $350 at Pep Boys. I will keep entrusting the maintenance and repair of my vehicles to him, and to Nick, Andrew, Robert, and the others at Pep Boys. What a good, honest, reliable team! read more

I've always been going to this branch since I moved in Bel Air. But the employees I've encountered in the auto service department sucks! ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. Every time I go there, I feel like I'm asking them a favor when in fact I am giving them business. I finally decided to visit Merchant's Tire right next to Pepboys. I am not exaggerating but I was treated like a VIP! Merchant's employees are very friendly, really listened to my concerns, and gave me options to fix my car issues. Took my car in because the DRL and high beam on the driver's side was out (it's the same bulb). Got it back with NO high beams or DRL on either side! I have no idea what they actually did, but how complicated can it be? My husband and I have been taking 3 of our cars here for years and service has been okay most of the time, but this is the last straw. We won't be back. read more

Went there because my battery cable was corroding. They told me that they couldn't fix it. That the only person who could fix it was auto electrical specialist. Knowing that they were full of it. As I sit here waiting for pep boys to complete brake work. I thought it prudent to let people know that this place is first class. I have had an amazing experience here. In fact both Anthony and Larry went above and well beyond to help me resolve a tire issue that I was dealing with from a different shop. An issue that shop told me was impossible to resolve. I guess that means that the boys at the Bel Air Pep Boys can achieve the impossible. It did take a while to get the work done but you can't rush a job if you want it done right!!! I am very disappointed with the Pep Boys in Bel Air MD. Twice I have scheduled service appointment to have work done on my vehicle and on both occasions received email confirmation. Yet both times when I brought my vehicle in to have the work performed, I was told that there was nobody working that could do the work!! Not only did I waste my time, but I also wasted ten dollars in gas driving to Bel Air. Service desk personnel were very unprofessional and I will not be returning. read more

I think the employees are nice but I felt like some of them including the mechanic were a little confused and I thought it was me trying to show them the sheet what needed to be done for inspection. I finally got enough to pay for what needed to be done but come to find out they didn't price what needed to be done for MD State Inspection. I even had a list. So it comes out to 1500 bucks. The only reason I didn't go back is because every time I have been in there they seem all over the place and they don't listen to you, why they make mistakes. The second time I was just shaking my head and I am a patient yogi. I think nothing from the first time was not on record and they were adding on things. I didn't get a sheet from them so when they say 900 something bucks I am bringing a little over a thousand, when I heard 1500 I couldn't do it. I know your place is busy, I see that but maybe take one thing at a time and look at detail. If you were to tell me that price in the first place I would have figured it out and stayed with you guys read more

Terrible experience dealing with this establishment. I took my out of state vehicle in for a MD safety inspection. My vehicle did not pass inspection which I have no issue with. However, I did take issue with the delivery of the results. It took 7 employees to stand and face me as the results were delivered. It felt as if they were standing guard and looking to intimidate me with their numbers. When I asked the gentleman I was speaking with to clarify some of the results the men standing guard began interjecting to give answers. Because of this behavior I decided to take my vehicle elsewhere to make the necessary corrections. When I stated I would not have them do the repairs they began quoting me different prices. This behavior came off as questionable to me so I reiterated that I would take my vehicle and move on. I am new to the area and their strength in numbers method of dealing with customers did not sit well with me. The customer service here definitely needs some improvement. read more

DO NOT bring wheels and tires to get mounted/dismounted here. I brought my loose wheels from my sports car here and their machine is so old it left huge scratches all inside the rim! At least they reimbursed me for the repair of the wheel but it was a royal pain in the ass to have to deal with. Funny, no other shop I've dealt with has had problems leaving huge gouge marks in my wheels! read more

I've normally had pretty good service here but today was terrible. I called three days ago to schedule an appointment. Had a flat tire and since it's an AWD there was a chance I needed all four tires replaced. Since I had to wait while it was being worked in they suggested Friday morning 8am so hey can get right on it. I show up at 8am and after 2 hours and 45 min (the car had been sitting on the lift for over an hour now untouched) I asked when it would be ready. Yes I was patient. They said at earliest another 45 min. Well I unloaded and said I've been waiting for over 2 and one half hour already and wasn't planning on having to miss a whole day of work today. They said there were others ahead of me. I said I had scheduled an 8am appointment for this morning, at your suggestions, so you'd be able to get right on it. The guys said, " you had an appointment?" Needless to say, it's unlikely I'll be back. No apology was offered. Just terrible and disappointed as I've spent thousands of dollars here over the past couple years. read more

I've only dealt with the service department but they were fantastic! Joe has an amazing personality and huge knowledge of all services. Keep in contact with me while work was being done to vehicle. Customer service is a huge reason I take my vehicles to Pep Boys in Bel Air. Bob is on top of everything...knows what is going on in the service area. If there's a question, there will be a quick and concise answer. Eric delivered quick and friendly service as I was cashing out. Another reason I like Pep Boys is because the service I had done here was $600 less than another service center in Churchville which also took 6 hours to do a regular state inspection. Back to Pep Boys and the state inspection, Dave the inspector is great. I won't take my car anywhere else, unless recommended by Pep Boys, while we live in MD. Thanks all of you read more
