Employees are cool but scattered. I ordered tires and paid a $200 deposit to hold them. I had to call to ask if they came in. When it was all done I paid full price forgetting that deposit. I realized this mistake and it took weeks to get my money back. Be kind to them and you'll receive the same treatment. But make sure you call and keep tabs on them because they are not proactive. However, Orlando was courteous- sensed my urgency and Justin was sweet and solved my problem in the end. Everyone's demeanor to me was very down to earth despite the frustrations. I don't know what happened to Pep Boys on Tremont Avenue. it used to be a full service automotive parts and repair facility. it seems they have become just a tire shop. I was very disappointed after using them over many years and receiving great service. I walked out today after they told me it would be a three hour wait to patch a tire. And they no longer even sell things like washer fluid, car cleaning products and many other things I used to purchase there for my car. Needed a battery.. so I called and they said to come in.. So he checked my info for the car, noticed it was a Ford edge and automatically try to tell me that it was not a normal battery removal cause they needed to remove one bolt that holds the battery and remove the fuse box. Which it was the filter box . So he said it would be $180 minimum to swap.. lol thank god they didn't have the battery.. so drove down 1/2 Mile and saw an auto zone. They did it for free. Now at 173k miles on the old Mazda, and I just had my front end inspected by a real mechanic, as I do before every winter. Everything is tight as a drum, bushings intact, rust minimal, handles and steers like a new car. This is now 124k miles and 7 years since lying Manuel at Pep Boys swore up and down that my front end was about to fall apart on the highway and needed nearly $2000 in work to be safe "for my family." As I said in an earlier update, I never forget a liar. And I never go back to a business that lies to me. Yes, this is a vendetta. And no, pep boys management, I'm not calling you to "make it right." I called 4 1/2 hours later and asked the status of my car. I was told by Patrick that I need new breaks on all 4 tires which I said yes I know I said that when I dropped off my car. I have a vacuum leak in my car and was told by my mechanic to have a smoke test done. He suggested pep boys as he knew they had the machine. Firstly, this location does not like to answer their phones. When they do no one seems to have any information. After two weeks of trying to make an appt I find out I can just walk in to do it so long as its after 10am. I dropped the car off to them yesterday around noon. Was told it would get done today but would take a few hours as they are busy. Completely understandable. Around 6:30pm I head back over since I had not heard anything and was told my car was not touched because the person who does this test left for the day without doing it! What kind of business is this? It is now the next day at noon, i have not heard anything back and when I call they tell me they will check on it and call me back.... still waiting. I went in for an oil change Wednesday July 27, patient, nice, not in a rush, everything was fine until it was time to pay. I beforehand mentioned to the cashier I had a 30% off coupon I planned on using. She mentioned to say it when paying later, so I did. The oil change came up to $92 for synthetic oil, minus 30% off coupon, $64.40. I also was going to buy the windshield wiper liquid and some wipes to clean the car. So when she goes to charge me I see it comes up to $77 and change and I ask her if she's charging me for the items too and she said no I pay those separate so I ask her how it came up to that amount after she supposedly scanned the coupon! She goes oh let's just use this register... I tell her it already showed pending and she said I didn't finish the transaction so it won't go through but call us if anything... then goes ahead to do it again and it's still not adding up and she goes let's use one of my coupons and it still doesn't come up. She said if it shows up on your bank account posted call us to refund you. So OF COURSE it posted! I call, explained to whoever picked up the situation she put me on hold without asking me any info at all. 15 minutes later someone else comes on the line asking who I wanted to speak to because she saw the call on hold and didn't know what I was waiting for. So I go ahead and explain myself again. She checks and says the person who originally helped me comes in at 11 and she would ask her what happened and call me back at 11:15am. Fast forward to 2:30pm I call back today Friday July 29 and the person who picks up says VERY RUDELY: "oh there was only one other person here and she's gone for the day, you can come back tomorrow to see what they can do, I don't know what's going on with that and I have two people on hold waiting and puts me on hold". Literally and quoted! After waiting 10 minutes on hold I hang up and call my bank and dispute the charges. This location has LITERAL THIEVES working there! The guy who fixed my car was great! I brought my car in for a brakeline replacement/repair. I had just popped a hydraulic line and the brake pedal hit the floor. I had it towed in and left for a guesstimate to repair the brakes. When I called back I was told: 3 brake lines were leaking, the Master cylinder was leaking, All 4 wheel bearings were leaking, the front caliper was binding, the tie-rod ends were shot,...TWO THOUSAND AND NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS. My car is a 1998 pontiac sunfire, 82k miles, I had Just Passed Inspection at the Pontiac dealership less than 30 days earlier who noted the brake lines looked rusty but nothing was leaking. Passed Inspection OK. The car runs fine. Within a month a brakeline popped and I brought it into PepBoys. $2,900 dollars to repair and they Didnt Even MENTION the brake lines I had brought it in for. How do you get 3 brake lines, the master cylinder, all four slave cylinders leaking at once ? If one leaks, there are No brakes.. 9 leaks simultaneously? Front caliper binding? (With no brakes How do you know this?) Tie-rod ends? I came in for brake repair. I just passed inspection at the dealership but pep boys claims a total of 9 leaks? At the Same time? Binding calipers with no fluid in the system?, All 4 wheel bearings?, Tie-rod ends? Master Cylinder? Questionable service overall. I've been a long standing customer for Pep Boys and I've used them for my last 2 cars simply because they are convenient and typically reliable. I used this location last year for an oil change and asked them to look into an issue I had with the front control arms. They provided me with a rather expensive quote. I ended up going to a local mechanic for cheaper but I still trusted their opinion. Fast forward to January of this year. I stopped in for another oil change and requested a state inspection. This location claims to offer early drop off however, when I arrived, there were no envelopes at the key drop to put my car keys. I ended up having to wait until they opened at 8am, hence I was late for work. Pretty inconvenient. I dropped off my car and got a call from one of the staff informing me that my car failed the inspection, because the front tie end rods need to be repaired. Total cost for repair + oil change + and failed inspection = over $1000! I declined the repair and paid for the remainder of service. Besides the price, I thought it was weird that I would need something like this done after having the recent repairs I mentioned. I figured the mechanic at that time would have seen this issue too. Unless for some reason, I'd been unknowingly driving reckless since then. So, I brought my car to another mechanic for a second opinion and guess what? My car was absolutely fine. He could not find any issue with the tie end rods. I went the extra mile and brought my car to the dealership service center and guess what? They also did not find any issue. Moreover, I passed the inspection with flying colors. I don't know what training the mechanic at this location has or where he saw an issue however, if 2 other mechanics, at two different, unaffiliated locations found nothing, I find it highly questionable that he did. As a woman and a customer, I'm highly disappointed and feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. It really makes me question the service and recommendations provided. So, 2 stars for questionable service but the oil change seems to be fine. Customer service was pretty fair during my visit as well. However, I will never ever again return to this location. The worst customer service ever!!! I get to the shop at 8:50am, wait there till 7pm only to find out the shop manager "Patrick" had ordered the wrong part for my car. Usually shop managers check the parts when they come in for delivery, but not Patrick, noooo, Patrick assumed he is good at his job and left it to the mechanic to figure out the part wouldn't fit on my car. It was a shift change and it was time for Patrick to go home and so I asked him why my car hasn't been serviced yet, his response was " well I did what I could, any problems take it up with the guy coming in after me"... My husband dropped off the car for alignment. Before drop off, the car run perfectly fine. Our mechanic said we just need to have it aligned after we changed our tires. We werent able to do alignment on the shop we want because they were already closed. So we decided to just do it in this shop thinking theyll do a good job because theyre well known and it's just near my husband's work. We left the car 1pm(november 7,2018), picked up around 5:30pm. They said the ball joint needs to be replaced. They gave us an estimation on how much we need to pay around $1500. Unfortunately, when my husband's driving the car back home, he felt something is not right. The stiring wheel is not aligned (crooked, not balance, unsymmetrical) and we are hearing unsual sound which we never heard before. Today, i told him to bring back the car to them because we dont get it. Then they told him around 12:30pm that they did not aligned it and will just issue him a refund. Around 1:50pm, the manager said they aligned it but it has a problem (the ball joint). The manager offered as a "COURTESY DISCOUNT" they will lower the quoted amount for ball joint repair to $700!!!! I called them and the person i spoke with said that their repairmen should have not done the alignment and not charge my husband. He said after they aligned it, they did a test drive and they found out something is wrong. They only told my husband about the ball joint but did not informed him about the stiring wheel issue and that sound. They put my husband's safety at risk!!!!! After reading all the reviews here. As for the pricing, I think it's pretty fair. For a simple door regulator replacement that I had done recently...it was done correctly and it was done cheaper than any other place that quoted me (imagine what taking it to the dealer would cost?). I've dealt with store manager Rick more than once and he's always been fair, kind and worked with me to ensure I left feeling content with both the work & service. I had the pleasure of Pep-Boys associate Denzel to address my car problem. He took the time to listen to my problem and made sure it was addressed and done correctly. Being Pep-Boys deals with more than one customer at a given time, it gets busy, nevertheless they are polite and professional. One other reason I like Pep-Boys, is 97% of the time, they have the parts needed for your car on the premises. They stand by their work. So, in the event, if by some fluke an adjustment needs to be made on your car, Rick and the rest of the staff will fast-track you...so, they can adjust whatever needs to be done ASAP. Don't get tires installed at the Pep Boys on 2633 E. Tremont Ave. They told me to order from tirerack.com because the tires would be shipped to pep boys and installation was $78. My tires were delivered 12/20 and signed for by Joseph, who works there. When I got the delivery confirmation I set up an appt to get the tires installed. when I showed up they had me look thru a pile of tires in front of the store for the tires I ordered. A clerk briefly looked. Miriam, the manager, told me to call tire rack. I made 2 trips to pep boys hoping the staff would find my tires that they signed for. By the end of the day tire rack reshipped tires to a different location. Perhaps the pep boys employee sold my tires online. One employee with matted eyelashes, told me this wasn't her problem it's pep boys problem. they have no system for documenting when an order is received, who it belongs to, or when they'll be installed. Delivered tires are just thrown in a pile in the front of the store. Avoid them. the service sucks! read more

I was previously at the Pepboys in East Tremont about 3 weeks ago for oil change and inspection. Waited for the car 2 hours and was told my inspection failed because I need new brakes. Javier was great at keeping me up to date with the car. Tony was the mechanic who serviced my car and was great. Came in again for the inspection and to change my brakes on 7/26/2022. Dropped off the care at 7:45 am. Was told I would get a call to let me know the cost of the brakes. Between 11:45am - 1:30pm called and was put on hold for 20 minutes and then disconnected. Called 8x after that and had to walk over to find out about my car. When I arrived, my car was still where I parked it. I was greeted by Daphne who disregarded my concerns and was answering the phone which I told her "oh so you are answering calls". I was then told Tony the mechanic was unavailable and my car would need to be reassigned which is unbelievable. If I would have not shown up to the shop my car would still be sitting there. Daphne then gave me the quote and wanted to charge me for extra stuff. Be careful when dealing with her...she will try to add things...not sure if they get some sort of commission. I was sent home with a complimentary Lyft and was told a Lyft will pick me up once the car is done. No call, no Lyft. At 7:30pm walked back to the shop, greeted by Javier and Daphne no were to be found. That chick has the worse customer service! I've been to this Pep Boys on two different occasions. First time was for tires I had shipped there to have installed. Left my car there for 4 hours and went to work. I get a call and was told car was ready. On my lunch break, I took a cab to retrieve my vehicle and to my surprise the tires were never changed at all. Second time was yesterday for a basic state inspection on my 2016 Chevy which normally takes 20 to 30 mins on average. These guys had me wait 2 hours with my agitated 1 year old. The rep comes back to the front and says, "you need new windshield wipers or your car won't pass the inspection!" At this point I was so annoyed that I paid for the wipers to get out of there. I don't know if they are being pressured to make more sales but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about selling. Fool me once shame on you. Twice and the shame is on me.
