Honestly, the most important part is how you are treated. And the staff treated me very well. They were kind and courteous, and got me back on the road very quickly-- after I made an appointment less than an hour earlier. However, they were less than transparent. 1. They made claims about the intake filter that were "iffy" at best. I replace that myself, so I always decline when doing regular maintenance at shops like this. NBD 2. They made claims about my cabin air filter that were false. I know where that is (actually it's two filters) and I recently replaced it. If they had made an attempt to locate those filters and inspect them, I would have noticed finger prints or misaligned panels. Scam. 3. They indicated that my spark plugs were in need of replacement. I work on my own vehicle and I'm well aware that... the mounting screws that hold the wiring to the cam are corroded. They would have needed to use special tooling to get to them to "inspect" them. They did not do that. 4. The TPMS (the light that says you have a low/flat tire) system was lit up when I dropped off the car. I assumed the car was probably so old that the sensors were shot (I asked for a replacement cost for the sensors, and declined) but they still indicated they did a "rebuild" on those sensors on the receipt, which amounts to replacing the batteries that send readings to the ECU... (albeit at no charge). The sensors just needed batteries-- but they just didn't even try. But Corporate indicated that they have to check them, so they line-itemed them on the receipt. However, they did nothing. So they tried to get me to buy filters I didn't need, filters they didn't check, and said they did a rebuild they didn't do. This place is a total scam. The tires are cheap, but it's probably because they're ripping other people off by suggesting services they don't need.... and performing services on paper that they aren't actually doing. read more

I showed up to my appointment for an oil change 20 minutes prior to my scheduled time just to have the man behind the desk to look at me as if I had 3 heads and was crazy for thinking they would do the work I was scheduled for. He explained they were backed up and only had one mechanic, but it's not hard to reach out explaining that so I don't have to waste time and leave work early. I will be sure to avoid this shop so I don't inconvenience them with another scheduled appointment and pick a shop that has more than a 2 star average. read more

This is one of those instances where you wish you could grant zero stars to a business. This morning I visited the Haddonfield Road location of Pep Boys, in Cherry Hill NJ. Upon arrival I met Neil Ramcharan, the service "manager" at this location. My appointment was for a relatively simple issue: I have a Bosch battery which is it still under warranty and needs to be replaced, due to loss of power on cold starts. I explained to Mr. Neil that I have recently moved twice (graduate school), and did not have my receipt in hand. However, this battery was manufactured for sale at Pep Boys only, as verified by my SKU number (SKU: 9998137) and was stamped with its manufacturing date, for warranty purposes. I further requested Mr. Neil to review my service records, where the replacement of my battery was to be found. To my surprise, Mr. Neil indicated that "mysteriously," the record for my battery replacement could not be found in "the new system", despite having dozens of records showing all my vehicles being serviced there over the years (tires, oil changes, batteries, etc). After about five minutes of rude and condescending service, it had been enough. Given Mr. Neil's abrasive and unprofessional behavior, I asked to talk to his management. He refused to provide the name of his supervisor/district manager, and instead adopted a more confrontational and aggressive attitude -- shameful, to say the least. So, with that, I ended up losing about $200 and not having any support to cover the cost of the replacement. This despite the fact I bought the most expensive line of battery, which should have been covered for up to 96 months. My advice to you is simple: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Pep Boys will not stand by its warranties. This place is literally out to get all it can out of unsuspecting customers. read more

Windshield wipers peeve me. According to Mr. Salesman at Pep Boys, you're supposed to buy new wipers every 6-12 months due to wear from weather extremes. That, he said, is why my 18-month old wipers weren't doing their jobs correctly anymore. Wipers are expensive. Even with their buy one get one 50 percent off deal, they cost nearly 50 bucks! I disapprove. Also: does anyone really ever just buy one wiper? After purchasing from a pretty emotionless cashier, I drove my car around back, was perplexed to see a full house of people waiting for service, but fortunately was helped by someone who noticed that I was holding wipers that needed to be put on the car. All this to say: Pep Boys is a good, convenient store to buy auto parts. Even if I really don't want to be spending money on said auto parts. read more

I made an appointment to get a leaking tire looked at first thing in the morning. I got there and they told me I had to wait because there was others ahead of me. Not sure how, since this was the first appointment of the day. After awhile, they showed me the leak and explained it could not be fixed because of where it was on the tire. I understood and made the decision to replace all 4 tires. They helped me find the best tires for my budget and told me it would take an hour. I walked down the street to the movie theater and saw a 2.5 hour movie. I came back about 3 hours after I left and I could see my car still on the lift, with no tires. (this is 2+ hours after they stated it would be done) It took another hour. I left and my tires were not balanced and my tires were rubbing against my wheel wells when I made a hard turn. With all the tire places in town, I doubt I'll ever come back. read more

On 6/16/23 I called the Pep Boys in Cherry Hill, NJ to get a price on a set of tires. I was quoted a price and I told the rep. to order the tires and I would be in shortly, he said he would order them. He said it would take about two hours for the job. I arrived about 30 minutes later and he said he would then order the tires and the car would be ready in about two hours. Three and a half hours later the car was done. The rims were coated with the lubricant that was used to facilitate the changing of the tires. The same lubricant was also all over the tires. No pride in their work? There was also a small scratch on the right front fender which I was able to compound out. The invoice is very confusing to say the least. I was also charged sales tax on the NJ tire tax which is prohibited by law. Lastly, the front tires were pressurized to 45 psi (no big deal); the proper tire pressure is not to exceed 44 psi. My experience occurred in February of 2022 at the Pep Boys in Audubon, New Jersey. I scheduled an appointment and arrived on time for the appointment for a radiator flush. I left my vehicle there, came back to my home, and received a phone call within the hour, (record time), stating that my vehicle would need repairs amounting to a "generic" figure of $2700. I was told that I needed a new radiator, new water pump, thermostat, heating coils and so on. I immediately went back, retrieved my car, and left that business. I then took my vehicle to a certified mechanic. It costs me $570 for the repair. My vehicle did not need heating coils or water pump. It did need a radiator and a thermostat. I originally hesitated to use this particular Pep Boys because the last time I needed a repair on my vehicle I was cited $500 for the repair work, I promptly left at that time and I had the work done for $40 but because my car was running hot, the convenience of the location, and was quoted a cost of $100 (which changed to $120 upon my arrival), I decided to try this Pep Boys yet again. I did have a good experience with this same Pep Boys when buying tires a couple years ago. The manager that I dealt with at that time was personable and professional and I did write a letter of appreciation for that experience. This experience, however, stands in stark contrast to that one. Buyer beware! read more

Let's get to this: If you're going to charge us for stuff, tell me before we go to pay. If you know there's a fee associated with alignments in newer cars, BE UP FRONT ABOUT IT. It strikes me as particularly sketchy when my wife is quoted one price and gets 'additional fees' at payment. This unprofessional demeanor isn't enhanced by sitting in the dirty waiting room listening to the employees swearing at the counter, badmouthing each other and mocking customers lack of knowledge regarding cars. To potential customers: Go elsewhere. The business ethics are dubious, the customer service sub par, the wait times inaccurate,and the building filthy. Pardon my language but the manager "Neil something or other" the bald head, Ihe's a rude mfer. His employees claim to render certain services, take your money for the service and a few days down the line you find out the service was never performed and this seems to be common practice at this location as I know several others who've been charged for services not performed. Be very careful and always have someone who knows about cars double check behind them. Neil and his employees are constantly trying to up-sale and claim your vehicle needs maintenance it doesn't. Neil will defend his employees and lie right along with them. He comes off very condescending and rude in tone/nature and how he speaks to customers and doesn't know his left from his right. My tire pressure check light came on and stopped by at Pep Boys in Haddonfield Road just to get a quick check to make sure none of the tires has a slow leak or losing air. They were accommodating and Jamaal was very helpful to check the tire pressure and assess if there's any nail or puncture. Fortunately, my tires look okay and most likely it's just the tire pressure system that's causing the light to come on. I didn't have to pay for anything even though Jamaal spent some time to check on all the tires. Even on this tough time, there are still people that are willing to help without expecting in return. I needed a new set of tires from someone I could trust, and as that rules out the crooks at my local Jiffy Lube, I tried Pep Boys. They had a great deal online for some excellent tires. I set up the appointment and headed in on a Saturday morning. I was in and out in under an hour and a half with new, balanced tires. I really like that I get free rotations for life during oil changes, so yep I will be getting my oil done here now too. read more

My boyfriend contacted Pep Boys on a Friday morning and was able to bring his car in by 4pm for an oil change. Once we arrived, the check-in process took 5 minutes where we went over the valid coupons and voucher; basically confirming the payment prior to the service. The only convenient thing about this location is that it is right across from the Cherry Hill Mall therefore while you wait for your services, you can just walk around the mall instead of sitting in the small and fume-infused waiting room. The oil change took roughly 2 hours and we were greeted by a different person at the register. He totally overlooked our account and charged us without one of the voucher. We caught his mistake AFTER the transaction had went through so he told us to come back next month to use the voucher... I think I would've given this location a higher score if he hadn't been in such a rush to take our money and omit our available discount options. read more

Friendly guys, but they told me they'd give me a call when the car was done and never did, noticed a day later that put the wrong type of oil in my car (when there is a previous oil change sticker stuck above it with the correct type written on it), and they didn't top off any fluids at all (ie: windshield). I needed an oil change and booked one online ahead of time. I show up and I'm not in the system. They tell me no biggie because they can fit me in right away and it shouldn't take more than an hour. They tell me I can wait, but I opted to walk across the street and do some window shopping in the mall. I come back an hour and fifteen minutes later and my car was still in the same spot it was in and 4 mechanics were sitting out front smoking. I understand everyone deserves a break, but I'm pissed they set the expectation and did not deliver. I asked for my keys and left. I finally get to the Cherry Hill Location, just for them to tell me 2 people walked out on them and that they now have to reschedule me for tomorrow. I specifically scheduled for today because I will be out of town tomorrow. Hence, getting the tire leak looked at. Also, why didn't they call all of their pending appointments and let them know, this way I could of searched for other options. I've seen enough from this place. I can't say enough about how happy I was with Levi and the group at this Pep Boys location. On Friday I realized I had an exhaust issue. Made an appointment Saturday morning. I was given an estimate that it would be done Sunday. Having my car back for work on Monday, I would be happy right there! But no, Levi had more tricks up his sleeve. I get a call Saturday afternoon that they were able to finish up ahead of schedule. When I went in to pick up my car, I found that the price was less than the estimate. When does that ever happen? I made an appointment at 9am for an oil change and I stated that I would wait for my car while it would be serviced. When I got there, I was told it would take a while so it would be better I came back instead. Okay, sure no big deal. The gentleman who was working the front was kind and said around 11am it should be done. I left and did not hear back from them all day, it was almost 3pm and I found it odd that my car wasn't done yet. I called and the same gentleman answered, he checked on my car and told me that it has not even been in the shop yet. Apparently they could not start my car and asked if my battery was dead. He offered to jump my car and bring it into the shop. I knew there was no way my car battery was dead and I never had any problems starting my car. I told him I would go in myself to see if I could start the car because I knew something was off. I came and of course i started my car and it was perfectly fine. The technician who claimed that my car wouldnt start came out and I asked him to show me how did he start the car. I have a bmw and its a push to start with the key in the ignition, nothing complicated at all. He didn't put the key in the ignition........ What kind of car technician does not know how to start a car????? If i didn't come down, they would have tried to jump my car, make me buy another battery all because they did not know how to start a car. Unbelievable!! He sat in my car, pushed the button and said yeah it doesn't start. He said he tried twice. I am in disbelief because i feel like anyone could figure out if theres a slot for the key in the ignition to maybe try that out!!! I wasted all day for nothing done to my car. I will never come back here again. If i did not call and check in myself, who knows what kind money I would have wasted to have things done to my car that wasn't necessary. All i wanted was a simple oil change, I stuck with my gut and I avoided a major crises for sure. read more

Never will return to any Pep Boys, I ordered 4 new tires online and scheduled an appointment for 2:00 PM the next day. When I arrived, they told me that the tires I ordered were not available but they would "upgrade" me to Definity tires (Pep Boys Brand) for the same price. This upset me, but since I was already there and schedule my entire day around this service I went ahead. The technician told me there was one car ahead of me which would take approximately 1 half hour and my service would take 1 hour so I should return in 1 and a 1/2 hours. When I returned at 3:30 PM they had not even started my car and I was told there was another car of the same make that they started on inadvertently. As I had an appointment, I should have had been taken care of first. When I checked out, I asked about the $40 rebate that was offered on my original tire purchase and the manager told me that since they "discounted" the tires that they installed, the rebate could not be offered. So in that sense, they did not offer me an "upgrade" at the same price as my originally quoted tire purchase. This is the first time I have every had any of my vehicles serviced at Pep Boys, and it will definitely be the last time I have any serviced at this, or any Pep Boy locations. In fact, with all the online options I have with other retailers, I will not be purchasing any automotive parts or accessories from Pep Boys in the future. read more

Outstanding. I have been going to this location since I was a teenager. They have always stood behind the work that they do, and always seem to go the extra mile to make sure that they please their clientele. Everything from batteries, tires, alignments, oil changes, and other things have been expertly repaired by their mechanics. I have had horror stories from other location in US, and this is always the place that I try to get back to. read more

I totally loved my experience here! They were helpful, explained the process, and did everything in a reasonable time frame. I purchased brakes, oil change, and wipers. I've been to several automotive care businesses (including Pep Boys locations in Philly) and by far this is the best experience. Stopped at 9:00 AM today for an oil change. I was never given a time estimate but after two hours got suspicious. At 11:00 AM I asked how much longer and was told two hours. Who has half of a Sunday to wait for an oil change? I was told it's a corporation and they go above and beyond. Having not even moved my car, there was no above anything except for an obvious indifference to the customer. Skip this place and save some trees along the way. My supposed oil change documentation took 7 sheets of legal size paper, most of which they tossed. read more

Never go here! Botched tire patch caused me to get a full blown flat. When I showed them pictures, they told me that it was a risky job but they saved me 30 days before it went flat anyway. They put two patches right next to each other which caused my tire to lose air. I should have been told from Day One this wasn't a patch job alone. Mr. Tire wrote me a formal report about how poorly done the repair was...The PepBoys clerk actually had the audacity to say that I was just looking for a free tire! They admitted to doing a risky, poor repair and then insulted me. Beware. They are cheap for a reason. They have no management. I asked about their formal claims process. Nobody had an answer. $150 down the drain for a new tire. How dumb do you have to be to botch a patch job? read more

They told me it would take less than a half hour to fix my tire...took about two hours. I looked outside at one point to see the mechanic sitting in my car playing on his phone, for multiple minutes. Had 4 new tires installed by this location. Dropped the car off for a 2pm appt. Finally got a call about 6 that the car was ready. 4 hours to install 4 new tires. Picked up the car and noticed that all 4 rims were heavily scratched around the edges. Also tires had this white paste along the sides. I tell the manger that there is a problem with my tires. He comes out and looks at the wheels. Says ok we have a place to get them repaired. He gave me the place and number and said we can bring back the receipt and they would reimburse me. BUT this has to be approved by his Manager who was not there that day. We come back the next day to see his manager and this guys says that they will not reimburse us because they did not do that. He says the wheels were already like that. I almost lost it on that human. He would not reimburse me. Well I will take this to another level. This place is a joke and should not be open to the public. This place will never get the chance to service any of my vehicles or anyone else who I will let know how much of a rip-off they are. LOOKOUT ON THIS ONE ! Had air conditioner evaluated then service here for $286.00! Within two months returned it due to failure of the air conditioner. Evaluated again, now PEP BOYS is asking for $1000.00 plus $67.00 for "PEPGUARD LIMITED EXTENDED LABOR WARRANTY" to repair the same air conditioner. This vehicle was driven no more than 50 miles tops, then to boot PEP BOYS has a "90 day WARRANTY" on parts and labor which they chose not to honor. Also charged me for a wheel alignment, $90.00, which I did not request. Midas Auto Service check the Front End then claimed upper and lower ball joints are bad, sway bar needs to be serviced, etc.This being not long after PEP BOYS alignment ! I am not a certified auto service mechanic/service manger, yet, I do not think you can do a alignment under these conditions. BUYERS BEWARE ! read more

I brought my car in because the maintenance required light was on and it was taking a long time to start up (clicked several times before the engine started). The mechanic turned the maintenance required light off and told me not to worry about the slow starting of the engine, that it was fine. Well 3 days later my car wouldn't start at all. I'm always wary of going to chain auto parts store like these but honestly I haven't had a terrible experience with pepboys yet. I've gotten parts, wipers (installed free), supplies and oil changes done at their service center. Just an fyi , tire rotations are not free anymore even if you are a pepboys member or even if you get an oil change done here. It's $20+ bucks now or something That's a shame. Their oil change coupon lists that they do a courtesy check of fluids but that is NOT true. I have a dashcam installed in my car and they didn't even bother checking any fluid levels. Also they have an irritating pattern of up selling services, parts that don't need to be replaced. My car's user manual clearly states the type of oil it needs but I was pushed towards "high mileage " oil and synthetic which is not needed. They have another cute sales pitch where they bring out your engine air filter and quote you how much they'll charge to replace it. Just be prepared for these pitches and get a 2nd opinion. By the way, my air filter was replaced around a year ago (~12k miles ago) and the user manual clearly says it only needs to be replaced every 24k miles. I'm no mechanic but It does not look dirty & you can still see light through it. I gave it 3 stars because ~22 bucks (with coupon) for conventional oil (5w-30) change is still a pretty good deal now days. read more
