I dropped off my car today to get a synthetic oil change in the morning and given it is a 'wal-mart' of car service, I'm quite content with the service I've received. I did have to wait in line, but not extensively, which is what's great about this location. When I dropped it off, the staff that helped me didn't seem to be happy with her job. I ignored it and she basically took my keys and did her thing. I had to go to work, so I told her I'll pick it up later. As I was heading to work, I realized that I didn't receive a receipt or anything after handing my keys to her. I went back and asked if I could get a slip or a receipt or something and she printed out the receipt for me. With the same lifeless reaction, she did print it out and off I went to work. After work, I went back at around 6pm to pickup my car. I had a printed coupon which required a mail-in rebate so I showed the staff the coupon. She told me that I need to get a print out from another staff in the front, so I went to her and waited a bit. When it was my turn, the staff was a bit annoyed that service staff told me to go to her and in return, told me to go back to the service line. I went back and the manager (I didn't get his name) was trying to print out the rebate form. He couldn't seem to do it, but I patiently waited. In the end, he was trying to do the rebate submission for me online, which you can not do as my service receipt wasn't registered in the pepboys system yet. He printed out a blank form and asked me to try it later at home. At least, he was trying to help. I did see another customer who was complaining to the manager but he patiently handled the situation I believe. So in summary, I was pretty content with the service as my expectations are not as high when it comes to car servicing, especially from a car service-mart. I am still a fan because I believe this place has potential for a better service - some training/incentive for the manager and the staff who has to deal with many new yorkers that comes through the door. There is a lot of inefficiencies due to staff trying to figure out the correct procedure and the low morale, but I hope this will improve for the better next time I need servicing. read more

I have never written a review before, but this place is so terrible I felt I had to. I made an appointment in advance to get an oil change. I showed up 30 minutes before and they told me that I had to move my appointment to the next day and that they could not help me. Without further explanation the attendant said they were really busy and blew me off. This place is unprofessional with awful customer service. Everytime I try to bring my car there they either ignore you and are extraordinarily unhelpful. Why offer the option to schedule appointments if you do not honor them?? Disappointed. read more

Every bad review on this page is likely accurate. - I had on again and off again starting problems with my car. -Trip #1 : I was told I needed a new starter and the mechanic "suggests" I also get "This, that and other unrelated things" done My total $800+ dollars. ($400 for the starter and $400 in upsells) -Two weeks later....my car didn't start. Same exact problem -Trip #2: "You need a fuel pump and the mechanic recommends you get ...blah blah...another $400 upsell on a $450 fuel pump" -Few weeks later....same problem. -Trip #3: "You need a $160 battery." I let them them know of my previous trips and asked they please check everything. I was sure it was more than a dead battery. I was told "Everything is fine...if you have any problems, just bring it back" -TWO HOURS LATER....My new battery, new starter, new fuel pump car did not start. -Trip #4: "leave it overnight and we will check everything out" Went to pick it up the next day..."Everything is fine. You owe is $49 for checking. Yup...that really happened. I called the 800 Customer service....They told me, "We filed a report with the store, you have to call the store manager to follow up." WOW ! Hello PepBoys. I did a complaint online an hour after I wasted my time at your facility and I have still not received a response.

If I could give less stars I would. Brought 2 vehicles to this place for repairs. Spent THOUSANDS of dollars between the 2 cars!! First vehicle needed to be brought back because they didn't grease the new breaks enough and they were squeaking worse than before they got changed. Second vehicle also got breaks and what a surprise, they needed to be greased after a day or 2 also! After picking up my car for the second time, the noise began again and it was brought back for third time and sent home without fixing the problem. Again it was brought back and now they're going to change the new breaks for new breaks. Let's see how well that works I guess. This place gives you the run around. The mechanics all dislike each other and won't touch a car another one worked on which of course means my car has to wait because no one else will touch his work!? Not really my problem as the customer, but it is. With the exception of a few useful, knowledgeable and customer oriented employees the attitude you get when you bring an issue up with the quality of work performed for the money spent, the indifference is incredible!! Forget that I'm paying your paycheck or the old adage of the customer is always right; most of the people employed here are only concerned with the commission they'll receive vs what's best for the customer and company. There is a serious lack of customer service skills among employees and management. On my third visit, while speaking with a manager I was told that this is the highest earning store in Queens. That's great but what about my issue as the customer? That wasn't the answer for sure! read more

Went to get a car inspected came back to pick it up have been waiting for almost 40 mins now to just pick up my vehicle.

::::::DISHONEST:::::: The ONLY thing good about PEPBOYS is that they offer competitive prices on their services, and a nice punch list that they will do at $0 cost. However, they do not perform any of the "free" stuff that they offer. I was there earlier this week, and I marked my tires to verify if they indeed did do a tire rotation or not, as I have experienced this dishonesty from the house dealership of my vehicle. As I checked, of course they did NOT perform the tire rotation. Did I go back in to address this issue? No! The receipt stated that they did perform the service and coworkers/buddies will cover for one another which is a good thing, not necessarily a good thing for the consumer. Since it is a free service all I can do is walk away and deff not return. I must add that I addressed my concern for the tire rotation many times, at drop-off as well as at pick up. They ALL confirmed it was done, but the marks were still positioned at the same tire location as before going in for service. Smh! I can only HOPE that an actual oil change was confirmed, as I can see how lazy they are. Not to mention how unfriendly the staff there is. Hope this helps everyone. FYI: if they give you an estimated time of service to take 1.5 hrs add another 1-1.5 hrs to that! read more

Never left a bad review but I'm compelled to do so today. Brought in my car to service my windshield washer. Was told it was fixed. I try it the next morning and it does not work. I bring it back to the shop and was then told I was supposed to be informed that I had to buy a new pump because they don't carry it. The person who failed to inform me the day before was present but did not apologize. The mechanic also gave me an attitude when asking me why I was getting charged for specific services. I have never been to such an incompetent, poorly-run store in my life. My car's air conditioning was busted, so I went to this Pep Boys for repairs. While they fixed the AC, my car started making a loud clicking noise for no reason. This problem did not exist before I went to Pep Boys. I brought it back to the shop and they fixed the problem, though they tried to charge me for fixing something they broke. Well, they didn't fix it. It's now a month later and the clicking noise has started again. If you want to actually get your car repairs done, don't go here. Don't give this store your business. I don't normally do reviews but this store has the worse management ever. I purchased some brakes online, they were the wrong pair, I returned them but didn't get a refund for over 6 months. The store manager told me, hey we did it already it's on your card, I said can you send me an email verifying sure he said.. ( give me tmwr) 2 weeks go by nothing.. I called back and told him my bank does not see it, he said it's there ( smh)... How can you be the store manager and flat out lie to a customer. The asst. manager as well was no help, she just tried to pacify me. Seem like she feared for her job. Corporate was no help, until I finally got someone to call the district manager, amazing what took 6months got handled in 12 hours.. clearly he must of said something to them. What was sad is the return was 40 something dollars, you really have that much time on your hand to treat customer like this. I read other reviews and felt like they can't be that bad. They are close to my location, so I figure why not use them. MY bad ( YES THEY REALLY ARE THAT BAD?) I literally travel 20 miles plus to Autozone, rather than deal with this store or company.. too many companies want to be the next big thing the next apple or whatever, but it's not just cool products, clean stores, it's values, treat the customer properly, integrity and live by your values as a store and as an individual. The fact that the senior manager can flat out lie and not be disciplined boggles the mind. I've been here once for a starter and once for an oil change. Both times the service was explained thoroughly, the time estimate was accurate, and the charge was reasonable. My oil change was so quick this time that I didn't even have time to take the bus home before they called and said it was finished. So I drop off my wife's car for an oil change and it's annual NYS inspection. Part of the oil change included a free tire rotation. Needless to say, they didn't do it. It's beyond me because If they did the inspection correctly, they already had 2 of the tires off, so why not take the other 2 off, and rotate them as they should have done. The thing that bothers me the most is that I have completed 3 surveys in regards to this service visit and no one at Pepboy's thinks my complaint is important because no one has reached out to me. Anyone can make a mistake, but when it's pointed out to them and they don't bother to respond, it's time to move on to someone else who appreciates my business. read more

Very disappointed with this shop. I've had so much work done here and now I question if it was ever really needed. I took my Jeep in stating the steering wheel felt a little off but also possibly the front brakes. My front rotors and pads were just replaced in June and when I checked the power steering fluid it was completely full, however, the issues I was feeling were coming from the front end so I wanted them to check it out anyway. They came back quoting me $2300 worth of work to replace the power steering pump and alignment (keep in mind, the power steering fluid was completely full when I checked it, there was no binding, etc. but I knew there was some kind of rattle in the front). THEY also fixed my alignment less than a month ago by the way. I took the Jeep to another shop with excellent reviews and they found no issues with the power steering of any kind but quoted me to change the front struts and rear ball joints. I'll never take the Jeep to Pep Boys again. read more

Disregard those negative reviews believe me I am very particular person and I felt 100 satisfied with Eric's assessment so I proceeded with having my car service here. It was the best decision I made!!!! Eric will go the extra mile for you. I especially liked how personable he was not only with me but with everyone that I saw him interact with. He is also a team player and on several occasions witnessed him supporting his team with not so nice people. This is the right attitude Pep Boys should look for when hiring their staff and keeping them. If you want good and honest service ask for Eric believe me you will not leave there feeling cheated in any way. You will feel like your leaving a good friend in stead of the same old same old garage service where they only think of you as a dollar sign. Not Eric and his team, they will treat you like a friend. Incident 1: I wanted my flat tire repaired. They told me it was torn on the side and had to be replaced not repaired. Then they said I needed to buy four tires so that the treads would all be even. They were adamant about this. Suddenly I'm looking at a $750 bill for four new tires. So I said I can't take care of this now, I'll have to come back (the flat tire was temporarily in the spare compartment and I drove there on the spare). I brought it to a tiny local tire shop (Em Tire Shop, 3307 21st St, Astoria NY), they patched it up for $15 and I've been driving it everywhere (hundreds of miles) without a problem for four months now. Incident 2: Four years ago I took this same car to Pep Boys for an oil change. The mechanic told me my suspension was shot and the car was not safe to drive. The estimate would be $1,000+. I said thank you, I need to think about it. That was four years ago, never got it "fixed", it's passed every inspection, and rides as smoothly as it did when I bought it. They lie. read more

I went for a state inspection. I made the mistake of leaving my ticket for not getting my inspection in the car. So they knew I needed to pass inspection and what do they do? Tell me i failed inspection so they can charge me to remove my tints. I made a complaint and had to send them pictures that you can basically see inside my car from about 50ft away with my tints, yet they were saying they were too dark. I had to have them removed which would mean I'd pay for my failed inspection, pay to remove the tints, then pay for another inspection. Even after getting my tints removed, after I told my husband, even he said he couldn't tell the difference. So, if you couldn't tell the difference, how can you tell me that you can't see the light go through. Tints are not on my front windshield. And the girl who serviced me couldn't even tell me anything about it, just telling me I failed inspection over tints. As soon as I walked outside, I saw another car which passed inspection (had the sticker) and with darker tints than mine. I'm sending a letter to the BBB because what they did was highway robbery. read more

My sister and I have been living in Astoria for two years now and our car has really felt the beating from NYC streets. We have consistently gone to pep boys in Astoria for all our automotive needs because we have found that their staff, services, and pricing are the best in town. Most recently, we were assisted by Ivanna and Mariah who were both tremendously helpful. They worked with us to ensure that we were taken care of to the fullest extent. I cannot speak higher of their customer service. Cars can be confusing to the lay person such as myself, but I feel comforted knowing that the employees of pep boys have my back!! read more

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!!!! I wish I had the option to give zero stars. We had a 3pm appointment to get our break pads replaced. We showed up early but they told us they can't squeeze us in until 5:30/6pm & if we were to leave & come back then we would loose our spot in line. It gets better....they tell us they only have break pads for the front & not the rear. So they had no problem booking an appointment without checking for parts & with no consideration of our time. WHY BOOK THE APPOINTMENT??? Then Rick calls us making a bunch of bogus excuses...."due to covid the system can't check for parts in advance" Really dude? AND "it was a misunderstanding, you could have left the car & came back for it later" and, your husband said he wants to check brakes, not replace them. LIES!!! We specifically wanted to change pads due to a road trip, as preventative measures. They quoted us the price the evening before but didn't check if they had the parts? When asked why they didn't call us to let us know that our 3pm appointment is now a possible 5:30pm, Rick said "oh we don't do that here". NEVER GO HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE HOURS TO WASTE!!!! These guys give mechanics a bad name. Brought my car in for new tires (because it was Sunday and my insurance towed it there) and when I picked it up the car wasnt driving properly so I brought it straight back for them to take a look at. They then tell me that it needed an alignment and new struts...everything we fine before I brought it in. I didn't trust them so I took it to my regular guy and after he looked at it, I did need an alignment (because of the tire rotation) but he was baffled as to why they said I needed struts. So essentially Pep Boys tried to screw me out of $300. These guys are a corporate chop shop and you should stay away as they have aggressive sales tactics and will try to bully you into spending unnecessary money. read more

We brought our car in for a simple oil change today. We had a 9 AM appointment. At 10:45 they informed us that we also needed an air filter but they had to bring the part in an it would take an hour. While that seemed awfully fast, I believed them an said that that would be fine. At 12:00, we were called up the desk to check out. The attendant informed us that "they recommend an air filter change." My response was "isn't that what we've been waiting for for an hour?" He proceeded to ask his colleague if he ordered the part. The response was "yes." The attendant asked us to wait a minute and called who I'm assuming was the part distributer. He got off of the phone an ensured us that it would be there in 10-15 minutes. We waited another 1.25 hours. At 1:15, he informs us that he couldn't install the filter because they ordered the wrong one! So I wasted over 2 hours of my life to have nothing done (the oil change was already completed at this point). The kicker in this story is that I also purchase windshield wipers, which I intended to put on myself. They kindly offered to install them free of charge. We got home only to notice that they never installed them!! So my husband called to ideally receive a refund. Thy couldn't issue a refund to my card over the phone, which I understand. The next most convenient time for us to stop back for them was next weekend as we both have a busy schedule. The person that answered the phone, Cleveland, was appalled that we couldn't pick them up until next weekend and gave my husband unnecessary attitude over that fact. Hell will freeze over before I give any more money to PepBoys. I should also mention that this is not the first time that I have had a bad experience there. I was in town visting family when my car started rattling very loudly. I called around panicking to find an open mechanic since it was the day before Good Friday. I needed to know that the car was safe to drive since I live 4 hours away. Not only was Pep Boys open, it was about 5pm at this point, but Kevin looked at my car immediately, even walked out to listen to it in parking lot. My car broken down today on Queens Blvd close to Astoria. The driving belt snapped. I have been a Pep Boys customer for years, so I had my car towed to this Pep Boys which was the closest to the incident. This was on a busy Sunday afternoon. And it turned out I needed to replace not only the driving belt, but also the power steering pump and pulley - not a trivial job. The service rep (Mariah) and her manager was able to take in my car for immediate service. Jim the technician did a fantastic job completing the whole job before the shop closed. It allowed me to avoid having to leave the car overnight and return the next day. To top it off, Mariah's manager even get me 10% off as I didn't have the discount coupon with me. Kudos to this Pep Boys. I have not seen such professionalism and empathy at many car repair shops. I highly recommend this location. read more

I arrived at 12:30 for my 1 pm appt. for an oil change. There were other customers in line waiting for service, the wait was only 15 min. The customer care rep. (Keon) was very attentive and professional, he even found me a coupon for my oil change, awesome. Prices are reasonable. Work was done promptly and out the door by 1:30 pm. the new location is very clean and staff was helpful, pity they downsized the service station bays to 6 from 12. Free coffee while you wait, also TV and WIFI (could improve on this-weak signal). Will go there again. read more
