Only giving 1star because I can't give half a star. Upon payment they realized they made me pay for the wrong car and when he realized it they all looked at each other like a deer in head lights. After about 15-20 minutes of them standing around discussing their options to cover their ass I witnessed the gentlemen behind the desk repeatedly pick up the ringing phone and hang it right back up just not to have to deal with whoever was calling. Finally they call over someone who worked his magic and put my money on a PepBoys card and processed my payment correctly but I had to swipe my credit card another time. At no point did the employee who made that mistake or the Service Manager apologize for the huge delay. Its a complete lack of customer service. You were more then happy to take my $800.00 but never once thanked or treated me like my business was appreciate. Will never recommend or use Pep Boys again. read more

VERY POOR SERVICE! I went for service on Friday 7/14 because my car would not start properly. After a few hours, I was told it was fixed. When I tried to start it up, it didn't start up immediately. The mechanic told me after I drove it for a while, the car would be fine. The next morning, the car had the same problem. I called them and was told to bring it to the Brooklyn location because it was closer to me. The staff paid absolutely no attention to what I had to say and told me to leave it there. I didn't hear from them on Sunday and called this shop to find out what was happening. After many calls to both shops, with no good answer, I picked up the car from Brooklyn and drove it to this shop. The mechanic couldn't find the problem. I drove home and had the car towed to the this shop the next morning. After many hours, I was told the car was fixed with no explanation of what had been wrong with the car. I assume they did not want to tell me that they didn't fix the car the first time I brought it to them. All in all, I paid nearly $500 for the repair, $30 for car service, had no car from Friday night to Wednesday afternoon, and a lot of aggravation. I got no apologies, no explanations, no help to call a car service when I needed it, and made to feel like I was inconveniencing everyone. I have been coming to this Pep Boys for several years now, before they even moved from their previous location, and one thing never ceases to surprise me. The care and consideration that each of their employees has for their customer is always outstanding, no matter the circumstance. For someone like myself, who works in the industry of service with care, I can attest to the toll it takes on a person to continuously provide top quality care. However, the mechanics Chris and Jonathan have done nothing short of top quality care from day one. Chris even personally made sure that my issue was resolved and that truly was an extra touch. Jonathan was nothing short of approachable, even with 6 - 10 people on line. Also, the prompt services of Dana and Keith should never go unnoticed. They both take the time to interact and understand the customer's needs and restraints. I believe that bit of humanism is essential in customer care. I have yet to have difficulties with this Pep Boys location and I know I will continue to come here for years to come. They know cars and they treat you like family. I wish it was possible to give this place no stars. Possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. A simple part replacement that should have cost $400 turned into $1400 because the "mechanics" kept screwing everything up and breaking off all the pieces. After two weeks of not having my car, it turns out that they only made it worse. I came back on a Monday to explain to them all the problems that came up after they replaced the part. I spoke to a manager and said my car would be done in two hours and that they will call me when I can pick it up. Today is Wednesday and I still haven't received a phone call. I decided to go to the store and see what's going on. I wasn't surprised when I saw that my car hasn't moved from the parking space I left it in. When I spoke to a cashier (Kevin), he had the audacity to lie to me and say that they fixed the car and now the mechanic just needs to double check it. When I confronted him and told him that I know he's lying and that the car hasn't moved in two days, he stormed out of the store and into the garage to get a mechanic to take a look at the car. I finally received a phone call that my car is ready a few hours ago. I won't be surprised if the so called "mechanics" made it EVEN WORSE than before. Can't believe that there are so many ignorant and unexperienced people working here. Will never come back to any pep boys ever again. read more

Why was I too stupid to listen to the reviews?? I bring my Jaguar XFR in for an inspection and headlamp replacement. Guy at the counter takes my info, including the model of vehicle, and says "no problem, just have a seat". After 30 mins, he drives it into the garage. After another hour, he drives it out of the garage and comes back to tell me "oh, it's an HID headlamp? We don't ever do HID headlamps". You've got to be kidding me? Nearly any luxury car these days has HID headlamps, and the guy never thought to ask me upfront when I told him it was a Jag whether it had HID headlamps so I wasn't waiting for 1.5 hours to be told they couldn't do anything for me?? He told me it was my fault and that I should have thought to tell *him* that my car had HID's!!! He said he "does this every day" and knows what he's doing. Go figure! Guy (Chris) was a total jerk and buffoon. Filed a complaint with customer service and supposedly some area director will call me in the next 3 days. I want to invoice them for my wasted time. Once again, Eric, the manager and his team had me in and out in less than an hour. They completely diagnosed the problem immediately....repaired it at a very reasonable cost and sent me on my way. Never bring your car here! Last year I got my NYS Inspection done at a gas station; in and out in 15 mins. This year I scheduled an appt at Pep Boys. When I arrive they tell me no one will be able to see my car for one hour. Why in the world would you let me schedule an appointment for 5pm when you don't have any availability? 2 hours 15 minutes later they say my car failed inspection because of a crack in the glass of my taillight and they recommend I drive somewhere else to get it fixed because they don't carry that part, then drive back to pay another $37 for re-inspection. Really!?! A good mechanic would have looked at the taillight, told me he didn't have the part and sent me to another shop. Pep Boys made me wait hours, charged me, and removed my current inspection sticker. To top it all off, I get home and realize they never gave me back my tire lock key. I have to call them (who knows how long they would have had it if I didn't think to check my glove compartment to make sure it was returned) and of course they're closing so now I get to drive back tomorrow morning without my inspection sticker to get the wheel lock. Next year I'm going right back to my local gas station mechanic. read more

Only go here if you want to deal with car problems for the next 6 months of your life. I went to get all new tires here and a sensor replaced. Simple enough right? When I went to pick up my car it had all new tires on it, but they were the wrong tire and they were all flat....They filled them back up and gave it to me. I figured there was a bigger issue than "they just didn't fill them enough". I could literally hear the air coming out of the tires. They took the car back and "fixed" everything. The next day one of my tires was flat. I took it back there 4 more times to make it right. Cost me tons of money in taxis and taking off work. By the end they never fixed it and messed up my TPMS system so bad that the dealer is having a hard time fixing it! I'm pretty sure it was tampered with (which is illegal). Everyone who works there is a joke. Corporate said they would call and help me correct the issue they never did. 6 months later I'm still having issues with my TPMS system and tires. Go ANYWHERE else but here, seriously save yourself the headache... read more

Came here the other day for an alignment, inspection and asked for an oil change if there was time. We were told it would take one hour which I had no problem with. It was 7:10 when we dropped it off and the place closed at 9 so an hour would give them enough time to finish before close. So we're waiting in the lobby and the guy comes to get us at 8:30. He tells us we failed inspection and that we needed four brand new tires to pass. I said that sounds ridiculous but do what you have to do bc I didn't want anymore tickets for an expired inspection sticker. He then tells me I have to bring it back tomorrow for tires and an alignment bc they close in half hour and didn't want to stay later that 9. Umm are you kidding?! I was quoted an hour and you didn't even do what I needed to be done. So not only did I have to wait an hour for an inspection that should have been done in 20 minutes but I had to pay for a failed inspection just to bring it back the next day to pay for another one. I've never had to wait that long for an inspection or oil change. The main thing I came in for was an alignment and inspection. I left with neither of those things. I took my car to an actual shop the next day and we were told while we could use new tires that should NOT have been a reason to fail us. Thankfully, the shop didn't charge us for an inspection bc we already paid for the failed one at pep boys. Never will I bring my car here again. All they want is your money!! We did end up just getting brand new tires but paid this other place instead. Would rather give my business to an honest company and not to someone trying to rip us off. read more

Reluctantly decided to try my luck at this location a visit after a terrible encounter with another location and AutoZone being located in Brooklyn. I am content with my purchase. The line was long and the representative seemed a bit disorganized. Representative was running between the register and searching for help to find my part. Then this amazing lady steps in I believe she's the manager based on how different she was dressed, her name is Kim. They didn't have the part I initially wanted so she showed me a list of others. I selected an item she went to go get them. When she came back she told me they didn't have the second set either so she brought me a higher end one and offered a discount. Man this lady made my day. I thanked her and told her she makes a great manager. This is what I'm talking about problem resolution. She was kind with her approach under the pressure of a rush and the offer of a discount made this visit even sweeter. If only other locations would take this approach of talk rather then confronting. I have been dissatisfied with my experiences here. Most recently, I brought in my car to have the headlight bulb replaced. I thought this would be an easy fix, which is why I chose to bring it to Pep Boys despite having had a bad experience there in the past. Everything seemed great...car was ready sooner than anticipated, nothing else wrong with the car. Before driving away, I realized that the light was still not working. The mechanics took a look and determined that I would need a "diagnostic" ($80) because there was likely an electrical problem. I said that I did not want a diagnostic to be done and that I wouldn't pay for the new light because it hadn't been fixed. I was informed that if I didn't want to pay for the new light, then they would have to put the old one back on. At that point, fair enough. I just wanted to get my car out of there and have it looked at elsewhere. The mechanics then appeared to look at the car some more, and I was later told that the headlight was working and that the mechanic who originally worked on the car (who was no longer there) must have replaced the wrong bulb. Mistakes are understandable. My issues though are related to the following: Did the mechanic not check the light before finishing the job? Would I have paid for a diagnostic and waited for another hour or so just to find out that the wrong bulb had been replaced? Very disappointing. read more

My catalytic converter fell off the bottom of my car in August and I was a prisoner of circumstances. I had to get it replaced, and quickly, and I didn't have a lot of choice on where to go. While I understand NY city prices are higher, I was dealing with a significant bout of sticker-shock after the repairs were done. Inconsiderate of our time and the manager was rude and condescending. We came in for a state inspection and the employee who took our information told us there were two cars ahead of us and it would be 1 to 1.5 hours. She asked if that would be ok. I told her that would be fine as long as it wasn't longer than 2 hours. If it would take longer than that, I'd have to come back another time. She checked with someone who was standing right next to her and they both assured me it would be 1 to 1.5 hours so I decided to wait. After waiting for an hour and 45 minutes I checked in with her to see how much longer it would be. She told me another 45 minutes. I told her that was a problem since I only had 15 minutes before I had to leave, and she said they "got backed up." I understand that happens, but I had made it clear I couldn't wait longer than 2 hours. It would have been considerate to let me know so I could have left and come back another time. I then spoke with the manager, who immediately began lecturing me about the amount of time a state inspection takes and how there were two cars ahead of me etc. etc. Again, that's all fine, expect for the fact that I explicitly asked when I arrived if it would take more than 2 hours. At this point I realized it was the manager himself who had originally ensured the employee it would be 1 to 1.5 hours. Instead of simply apologizing, the manager insisted that when he told me 1 to 1.5 hours he was referring to the amount of time before the car would be brought in and obviously it didn't include the amount of time to do the inspection. (Seriously?!? Why would I be interested only in the amount of wait time BEFORE the car was brought in for inspection? Was he planning on having me come in to help work on the inspection once they brought the car in? Obviously when I ask how long something will take, I'm referring to the TOTAL amount of time.) It was clear the manager would rather make excuses to save face than to simply apologize for wasting my time and making me miss an appointment. He kept INSISTING that it was my fault for not understanding that he meant 2 to 2.5 hours when he said 1 to 1.5 hours. Remarkably poor customer relations. read more

Ive been a regular customer and have finally had it -this place has gone down hill! I've been here since 11:30 -it's 2:55pm. Brought the car in to get the front drivers side tire changed due to losing air after two attempts to fill tire. I write on their form "change tire" (while the personal attending was on the phone) "Check tire" is what she translated that when she inputted that into in the system. The Oil light was on, so even though mileage wasn't high enough to have it changed, I asked them to check it. At 1ish I received my car back for the first time, given my key and receipt, service person turned and left immediately. The bill said they changed oil, rotated tires, No tire change was done -the reason I came in in the first place. I had to wait on line again to ask them to explain what was (and wasn't done). I said -you didn't change the tire -and now you rotated them -how am I supposed to know which tire is the faulty one now? They said actually we didn't rotate them, since it's a fleet car, the computer just puts that on the receipt because it's part of the "package". What? So you put down that you rotated the tires but now your telling me you didn't? Really?! And I'm supposed to trust that? The oil change is there too -did you even do that? Ultimately, they checked the tire again and found a nail in a completely different tire (rear) and said they were done -now I'm waiting for a third time -to replace the original tire -4th interaction -my car is done and they have me waiting for fleet authorization. Fleet already authorized the charge on a three way call between me, fleet and the Mgr at pep boys earlier. I call fleet -they're waiting for pep boys to call and pep boys says they're waiting for Fleet to call. Bullshit. Go ahead and keep bringing your car here -I won't be compromising MY SAFETY with these people again. read more

Never left a review on yelp before but had to after my experience today. Bought two brand new tires last week at this shop and Drove my car for 1hr after the new tires were on and had it parked in a garage all week. Go to my car today, the brand new tire is completely flat and making a hissing noise. Brought it to pep boys today due to having insurance and asked to get a new tire since it was only 1 week old. They just plugged the hole and told me I had a nail in it which I knew wasn't true since AAA looked at the tire before I brought it in. Refused to let me talk to the manager and wanted to charge me for them plugging the tire. "Customer service is number one", what a joke. They might as well take that sign down and it was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They clearly have no idea what they are doing and just trying to make a buck. Should of brought it to a trusted mechanic instead, maybe then I would of gotten my tires put on properly. read more

So I was assisted with my bill and inspection papers by Keon and the associate that attended to my purchases was Dana. I needed to get a tire replaced, inspection done, lots of items for repairing my 20 year old VW that I love, and it was all a pretty good price. I was impressed that I could take care of everything at one location and it took all of about 2 hours. I like tools so I did not mind the time wait so I could browse. Also the coffee was good. Clever rip-off with tires. They get their own private label models from otherwise reputable tire manufacturers. If a tire blows while still under warranty you find out they have changed the model so a replacement won't match the remaining 3. So they will give you a discount on a new set of 4 instead. read more

I must say I am very satisfied with the Service at this location. I needed quite a bit of work done on my vehicle today, and was reluctant to get the repairs on my car,,, u know being that it was Saturday an all,,, but I went ahead and got my lazy behind there early. Wow! When I tell u The Store is Brand New, The workers have so much chemistry helping each other out while smiling and having fun. While the my vehicle was being serviced i searched Pepboys web and found coupons online. The Savings is Nice when I'm spending my hard earned dollars. Horrible customer service! I scheduled an appointment for 4pm for oil change. Arrived promptly. When an employee helped me, and took all the information I asked about how long it would take. She told me the oil change is 30-45 mins but for them to take my car is 15mins, so "about one hour". 50 mins later I decided to walk around, and saw my car still parked at the same spot i had parked! I went back and told her and she went to check what was going on. She came back and said they didn't have the space and they would take my car in the next 10 mins and I'd be done in another 45 mins to one hour. Politely and without an attitude I said i couldn't wait any longer and asked for the car keys back. I waited another 5 mins for it. This was by appointment! I didn't hear "I'm sorry" or any type of apologetic or friendly comment. Ridiculous! I've been here before to inquire about tires and was not happy with their customer service, but decided to give a shot on oil change. Never again! read more

i recently started using pep boys in long island city. the customer service has been excellent & very accommodating, fairly priced and everyone from syed the manager to sheldon & especially the pretty young gal dana have gone out of their way to be helpful. dana should definitely be considered for a managerial position. she recently efforted on my behalf to evaluate an inferior and expensive brake job i had done at another auto repair shop before discovering pep boys. i own 3 cars and plan to use them exclusively now. read more
