Had my boyfriends truck oil changed here last week. Check oil light came on today, brought it to jiffy lube instead come to find out they shorted him 2 quarts of oil!!!!!! Rip off and could damage your new car! Look out for these guys because they are looking to make a profit at the cost of your car! We have both receipts to prove we had oil changed and had to had oil topped off with two quarts somewhere else so they defenitly messed up. Don't go here. They will try to take more money from u than needed. Made an appointment for transmission oil. Got there on time. He says it will take 3 hours?? But on the website it says 40 minutes to an hour for the transmission. I have my dog at an appointment I had to pick up later that's ridiculous. After he took our car for a "test drive" for some weird reason.... Can't they figure it out by not wasting my gas driving it around.? He comes back and says it is going to be 280 bucks for the oil even though on the website I got an estimate with the oil I wanted and it was 150. Charged us extra than other places for the filter here it's 55 other places it's 20 bucks. Then he tries to go on and say that our car needed manufacture reccomended oil for our car because the other oil it might mess it up.. Even though they are basically the same thing I did my research. Just way more expensive. 6 dollars a qt for the oil I wanted 11 bucks for the one they recommended me. To top that all off this dude that took my car out for a "test drive" didn't shut the hood on the car. So glad it didn't pop open when I was driving home. These guys need to take care of their customers better need to fix their appointments so people won't have to wait 3 hours for a small fix and take more care of the cars u guys are driving around. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would definitely do it. This place is robbing consumers. Not a good experience. I know I'm not known for giving places a great review. I have high standards and it is what it is... Let me just say that I knew exactly what was wrong with my vehicle and wanted a fair quote on getting it repaired. As its obvious I'm not a mechanic or mechanically inclined. So I decided to call this "dump" knows as Pep Boys... big mistake. They quoted me over 200 dollars more than anyone else had. Not to mention, they "found" other "problem" areas that needed to apparently be addressed. Yet, these "problem" areas have never been an issue and still aren't. They just wanted to get money out of me because I'm young and inexperienced. However, I'm not stupid. Far from it. So, I really suggest you go elsewhere if you need to have your car fixed. You will not get a decent quote and you'll end up with "problem" areas that you car doesn't have. Plus, the men working there are total homophobes and don't have any communication skills. Or interpersonal skills. Yelp please come out with zero star rating... we need it!!! read more

I went into Pepboys this morning with a nail dug so deep in my tire it was barely visible. I thought I would be paying $30 for a patch job, but ended up paying $300 for a new set of tires and installation. When I got my car back my iPod Shuffle and car alarm battery was missing; I found the battery but the iPod remained missing. I contacted the manager who searched my vehicle, then proceeded to look at the videos. In the video we discovered the employees took my vehicle for a quick, fun ride (ramming up the speed, driving my car like a sports car, with the nail still in the tire), and setting off the car alarm and temporarily manually disconnecting the power to it. The video was not over, but I did not want to see more of it; what I saw upset me even more. He gave me $50 cash for a replacement iPod Shuffle. He explained there has never been a history of theft or a crime of this nature at this Pep Boys, his workers are good, honest people, and he did not want me to think that they would steal my iPod. He felt the least they could do was to acknowledge this misfortune that took place while my vehicle was under their care and try their best to fix it. I told him if he found my iPod or it pops up somewhere, eg fell on the ground, I would return the money to him because all I wanted was my iPod. Later today, when I had some free time, I was ransacking my stuff, and found my iPod. I returned the money immediately to him, in person. I felt embarrassed for myself. I threw a huge fit over something minuscule, and nonetheless, it was my own mistake. I appreciate their sincerity, and empathy in my time of confusion. I also appreciate their professionalism in regards to fixing my car, and their response when I returned the money. In reflection to the biggest problems other respondents complained about on here, my opinion is, despite the long wait from the time the car is admitted to the time it is released, overall, it is worth the time and service. They take walk-in's, too. If they tell you it will be busy, and ask you to come back at a later time or tell you will have to wait, then show up and wait. As I was waiting for my car, my elephant ears picked up the same return time for three customers that morning. The cars are checked in the order their Work Order Forms are received. A phone call requesting an appointment time doesn't guarantee a place holder nor quicker services. In summary, this Pep Boys is now my go-to car shop. They're no where near perfect, but neither am I. I can always use more good people in my life. read more

Just visited the Clovis Ca, location a couple of minutes ago and I can say I will never go back. I used to buy everything at Pep Boys Clovis but since your remodel I will never go back. This is the second time I have been their trying to buy something and walked out discussed. Today it was three packages of lights (about 30 dollars) I was the third person in what I think was a line. I asked if there were any cashiers and they said no, you just have to wait in line with the guys looking for parts and other items. I waited almost 10 minutes before the guy behind the counter finished a special order on the phone and then started to help the next guy who was buying some items that need to be looked up. I waited almost another 10 minutes and asked again if anybody could ring an easy sale up and they said no. They said they do not have cashiers anymore and you just had to wait in line with everybody looking for parts and buying special ordering parts. After twenty minutes and they still didn't finish helping the first guy because of the phone keep ringing I left and went to Napa about four blocks away and had my items in three minutes. Terrible terrible experience... First girl at counter says be right with you and leaves 2 minutes later to lunch. Finally get service help and take care of order the guy tells me 1 1/2 to 2 hours so I go shopping and to lunch. Come back after 1 1/2 hours and they have barely started the car. Horrible customer service and big rip off. First I called and asked if they do AC service and repairs, Don assured me that it they do and that it is usually about $52 for an AC diagnostic. So I walked in and explained that I needed my AC serviced because it was blowing but only blowing warm air. I explained that I had already tried to recharge my AC and the pressure gauge was reading that it was full. I thought it might have been over filled so I tried to flush some of the coolant out of the AC system and the pressure kept showing it was really high. I advised them that the compressor was kicking on but nothing was cooling and I wasn't sure what was wrong. So I signed the paperwork and they told me that they would call me with the results of the diagnostics. so I wonder around for 3 hours and finally get a call. They tell me that I need to get a new compressor, condenser, a valve and some other part. They kept insisting on me leaving the car over night so they could fix it the following morning. I told the lady 3 times that I did not want to leave it without knowing how much it would cost me first. She kept telling me that she couldn't give me a quote without calling to find the parts they needed and she wouldn't call about the parts unless I agreed to leave the car over night. I asked her a 4th time for any approximate quote she could give me and she quoted me for labor and the condenser (which was the only part they had available) to be about $1,006. I told her I'd have to pick the car up because there is no way I could afford that at this time. So I walk in wanting to pick my car up expecting to pay tax and maybe some other small fee. Instead they told me it would be $52. I again reminded them of the coupon I had and she said, "oh right, let me get that applied.....you're new total is $46." So then I ask what the $46 included. Apparently they did a flush and replenish of my AC coolant, without calling me first, costing me $15 and then apparently the AC Leak Evaluation was not included as part of the AC check so that costed me another $30. That would have been nice to know when I first dropped my car off. I was upset and said, "well I wasn't aware of that" NO WHERE on my initial or final quote does it show "AC Check" so I'm not even sure what that includes or how much it usually runs. I just assumed that the "AC and Leak Evaluation" was the same thing and that it would be covered. I'm most upset that it took them 3hrs and then the proceeded to perform services with extra costs that I was unaware of. I probably would have approved of those tests and extra costs had they called me first but instead I was blind sided by the bill when I picked up my car and as a result I will probably NEVER go there again, coupon or NOT. read more

Tried to have my smog done 3 different times, dropped my car off twice on early drop off and got a call later that they can't smog it because their guy isn't in. Maybe if they offer a service they should have more than one guy able to do a service. Will not go back. read more

John and Jose Store #668. These two guys were incredibly professional and took excellent care of this customer. I did not have my reciept with me upon return of some un-used disc pads. What I had not realized was my friend who did the install had left grease marks on the pads from handling. I was surprised at this knowledge and expressed that at some point I would use them so I would keep them because of the marks. Nope, no problem for those guys. WOW, a full refund. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this Pep Boys was to me. It all starts with the excellent service provided by J.R. This man is very knowledgeable, helpful, and stayed later than he should have in order to help me. This is a person who loves his job and it shows! I have a 1995 Jeep grand Cherokee Limited and had a problem with my pulley and belt. I brought my car in sort of last-minute and JR came through and, not only did he replace the broken parts of the car, he kept me well informed all along the way. My daughter moved up to Clovis earlier this year and has a 2001 Nissan Frontier. While it does have a lot of problems, I felt very comfortable with Tony at that location. He advised me as to what was critical and what was "nice to fix", understanding that we're on a limited budget. I felt he was very upfront and really helped my daughter out. read more

Very helpful. I had some messed up tires and needed them replaced before I left town the next day. I took it to Pep Boys after checking prices. Even though I brought it in late they stayed and worked on it well after the store had closed. I was pleased with the overall experience, the service, the price, and the staff (they were great). Took my car in too fix evap system to get it ready for smog. They said my car had a large evap leak and that it would require $600 worth of repairs, and I agreed. After they completed the repair my check engine light came on again for the same problem. I took it back in and they said it was something wrong with the computer in the car and that they don't repair electrical problems. I then took it too Electric Lab and they found the problem to be a faulty sensor above the gas tank, and nothing to do with the computer in the car. My check engine light has not come since and my car passed smog perfectly. I don't believe the technicians knew what they were talking about, and they were not very helpful after they charged me for not repairing my car read more

The service is fine - sometimes a bit slow on answering the phone. I've usually gone here in the past because it is in a convenient location for me. However, after getting a bit more familiar with my vehicle and getting quotes from other auto-shops, they seem overpriced. They are fine for standard tune-ups and oil changes, but large repairs seem to be much higher costing than local auto shops. read more

last oil change they forgot to cap my engine and oil was spilled all over that i have to have the engine clean and paid $50 out of pocket. pep boys will not pay for the cleaning. give them another chance and blew it up again, i was told to pick up the car in 1 1/2 hour , 3 hours later came back to pick up the car but was not even touch. I am not sure if I should be writing this review, but when a business leaves a bad taste, you never forget it. It has been a few years, so hopefully things have changed. I just never went back! I needed a new battery. My battery light in my car went off. The mechanic took out my old battery and replaced it with a new one. He told me to turn on the engine. It would not turn over. He told me he thought it was the starter. I knew it was not the starter because I have had starters go out before and I did not hear a clicking. He told me I should have a diagnostic test done. I told him I knew it was the battery and there was no need to do so. I got out of the car and went into the shop. While standing in line, two ladies were talking and said they were so happy they had brought in their cars. They needed minor work and found many other things wrong. They said they may have been on the road when something went wrong. They ended up spending a couple of hundred dollars extra, each. When I heard that, I got out of line and went back and sat in my car. I was determined I was not going to get swindled. At this point there was no battery in my car and I could not even back out. The same mechanic came back and saw that I was not going to get the diagnostic. He said, "Let me try one more thing". My hood was up and I could see what he was doing through my window. This time he tightened the screw that connected the battery. He said, "ok start your car". I turned on the key and wham!....It started. All I needed was the new battery, but it had to be connected! I know it has been a few years, but I would not recommend them at all. read more
