Ubered home since they said it would be better to drop it off and not wait. Ummm, ok. Clearly you don't know what the point of having an appointment is.... As an update to my previous very negative review of this Pep Boys recently I discovered something else wrong with my car shortly after my appt, something that I had no idea how it happened and did not think it could be due to PepBoys but am now convinced that it is. THE EDGE OF MY HOOD UP NEAR THE WINDSHIELD IS DAMAGED WITH VERY DEEP SCRATCHES ALMOST LIKE BITE MARKS!!! I would not have thought this could be PepBoys fault until I read some other reviews up here and saw one with photos from a few years ago that shows that PepBoys CRACKED THEIR WINDSHIELD down near where the hood is. Oddly the crackmarks in their photos look very similar to the marks on the edge of my hood. I am assuming that there is something in their shop that hangs down near the hood/windshield that damaged that person's car, in addition to mine. Unbelievable! read more

AVOID THIS LOCATION! I scheduled a drop-off appointment for an oil change, tire rotation, and inspection for my vehicle on Wednesday, September 6, 2024. The appointment was for 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 8. I arrived on time and was checked in by Dave, who assured me he would call when my vehicle was ready. However, by 5:00 PM, I had not heard from anyone, which concerned me since the location closes at 6:00 PM. I called the shop and was placed on hold for nearly 10 minutes before Dave answered. He informed me that my vehicle was not ready and would need to be finished the following morning. I explained that I needed my vehicle back for work the next day. Dave said he had a technician coming in at 6:00 AM but would speak with his mechanic and call me back. By 5:45 PM, I still had not heard anything, so I headed back to the shop. Upon arriving, I saw that my vehicle was in the same spot where I had dropped it off earlier that morning, with no new inspection stickers. When I spoke to Dave, he informed me that they were unable to service my vehicle. I was frustrated by the lack of communication throughout the day, especially when there was clearly an issue that would prevent the service from being completed. When I questioned why I had not been contacted, Dave said he planned to call me and would have eventually, however his technicians were working on other cars that took longer than expected. I was extremely disappointed that no apology or solution was offered. Dave did not suggest scheduling another appointment, nor did he acknowledge the inconvenience I experienced by giving up my vehicle for an entire day with no work being done. When I asked to speak to a manager, Dave informed me that he was the manager and that any complaints would come back to him. When I asked for someone else to escalate the matter to, he only gave me the name "Leo" with no additional contact information. This situation could have been avoided with simple, timely communication, and I would have been happy to reschedule if notified earlier in the day. Called them at 10:30 am and they told me oil change was not done but there is 1 more car and then mine will be next. The attendant told me to come at noon it will be done. I once again called at 11:30 am to get a status and spoke to Dave who told me he will "call me back soon". Never got a call back from Dave. Associate moves Mondays appointment to Wednesday citing they can't take my car for an oil change asap due to other cars before me. Completely understood and agreed. Wednesday - takes more than 2 hours for the oil change, even after reminding same associate while handing over the key, about reason for moving Mondays appointment to Wednesday. All while I am the first customer in the waiting area on Wednesday. The online tracking is also not real time , I am being told by same associate. Waiting area has no or non functioning air conditioning and is hot as hell. I counted, 1 hour starting with the car being lifted onto the forklift for oil change to the car pulled down after the oil change. 1 hour! The oil was most likely dripping in 1 drop at a time . LoL! Car is pulled over to the front finally after 3 hours of torture and waiting (ofcourse again) for the associate ( while i am standing in front of him) for 10 minutes to pay and leave this hell, while he petends to make multiple work calls from different desks , chitchatting with mechanics , before processing a waiting customer out. They didn't even look at the car and told me I was first in line for tomorrow. Customer service and quality of work has really taken a nosedive recently. Took over two days for an oil change with an appt and over the weekend, it took until 6 pm (8 am appt) and four phone calls where we were told, your vehicle is next, for them to test the battery life and tell us to charge the battery....here's your keys back. We purchased a pep boys warranty with the battery and since it died twice in the past two weeks, we asked it be replaced. Our request was refused. May it not happen to others with this Pep Boys in Collegeville. I drive my car because of a failure in the AC. In one call they tell me it is a sleeve of the air and tell me how much the repair costs. I give the OK to repair the part, but later they call me back for what they think the compressor is. I tell them that he would light up and shut down. I give them the go-ahead to repair it, and when they finish, they call me and charge me 2,600 dollars. They hand me the car and the road home does the same thing again as when I first brought it in. I leave the car again and search online for the part that may be bad. They repair it and charge me an extra amount. I get the car and the next week I do the same thing again. I will take it back to him, but this time they were already treating me with an attitude. Hey, it is not my fault, they did not do their job. I left him for two days and they did nothing to him and they handed him over to me the same as when I brought him the first time and they tell me to take him to Honda. I had taken my VW to pepboys for an oil change. And noticed a serious leak when I got home. I took it back and the leak continued. I took it to another auto shop and they noticed a crack in the oil pan and it had to be replaced for a cost of over $600 I notified Dave French Jr, the manager of the pep boys of Collegeville where I took the car. I was disappointed with pep boys and Dave's decision not take any responsibility for the oil leak. There is one thing that is 100%, that the leak accrued on their watch. . Does that mean the mechanic is not competent. If it occurred before then why was it not discovered during the oil change. And why was there no oil leak prior to bringing to pep boys. There were no oil spills on my driveway, the oil spills only occurred when I brought the car back from pep boys both times. The irony of this episode is attitude of Dave and pep boys not even claiming some responsibly Pep boys and Dave have shown me the only goal is money and are willing to sacrifice good customers. I had been coming to pep boys in Collegeville for 8 years. I had my two cars serviced for all my needs from inspections to minor and major repairs to even purchasing new tires. Now due to the insensitivity to my plight I am no longer a customer. On top of that I will be seeking an objective decision. Dave is making the decision and is backed by pep boys. This is subjective and so there is no incentive to take any action. And as Dave said to me, "do whatever you have to". Basically, telling me to go pound sand. Staff here are very nice and i have no reason to think they don't do quality work. However i feel i was charged significantly [$400] more than was estimated. For this reason i will likely never return for additional work (aside from if any followup is needed on this job). -----/ My car had a check engine light come on. So i wasn't sure how far it would be wise to drive with it. This PepBoys was near my house was always super busy with good reviews and so figured I'd give them a try being so close rather than drive a few towns over to the shops i normally use. I got a call in the evening telling me the issue they had found and the work they suggested. They asked what i wanted to do, and i asked for an estimate of the cost. He said he would call me back with a quote but it typically was about $900 for that. Then called back shortly after to say he had run the numbers and it would be about 900 + a few hundred for diagnostic and other work they would do. So about $1200. It was higher than i expected but it was already there and lets just do it. I also asked about an oil change and was told for this job they replace all that anyway. When the work was completed I came to pick it up and checkout. Two things were odd with the quote - 1 it was 1600 instead of the 1200 they had quoted me. 2- they had charged me for the oil change. I asked for clarification on why it was so much more than estimated. I was told that while they didnt remember their conversation with me, they never said that and had no written record of what they had told me. I feel very mislead and disappointed. read more

Usually this pepboys has been a hit or miss situation with me. The customer service is just not up to the mark to let me know if I can bring my car in and if it will be fixed or even looked at the same day. An appointment in weeks advance is also of no use. Recently, when I took my car there with a scheduled appointment and just wanted to get the fluid checked etc, they did not call me till the evening to tell me what was going on. I had booked this at least 2 weeks in advance so that I could get my car the same day and I had made it clear to them profusely. But I had to call in the evening to ask what was going on and was just told you can come in to pick up the car now. No sorry no nothing, no care in the world to a customer's request. Cherry on the cake was these guys broke my turn signal indicator and patched it up. I could see wet glue there and they just refuse to fix it now. They do not want to accept it and so adamant that their technician had nothing to do with it. I told them to at least tell me the cost of repairs but after waiting for a week and no calls, when I called them the guy (Chris) just told me he will not do anything and that is it. I agree with everything negatively mentioned about the Pep Boys in Collegeville. Dave the manager is the worst store manager I have encountered in a long time. Dave made me feel very uncomfortable, he is rude and cranky the last three times I was in that store. No customers in the store, not on the phone or employees in the garage. He brushed me aside when I walked in at 7:45AM with no words, but gestures that he was too busy to even say hello, maybe because I was a girl. I cringed at the thought that here I stood waiting, alone, in this store for someone to help me with my car. He eventually turned to me 8 minutes later like I was a burden, "what do you need". I told him he was a cranky, angry, sad man and never mind. He told me he was busy with customers, what customers?? No one was there and he was not on the phone. This Pep Boys is absolutely ridiculous. I am always one to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but I have been disappointed now time and time again. This will be the last time I return here. 4 months ago: I come in for an inspection that I had made an appointment for online. Upon arriving, the manager asks if I'm dropping off and picking up the following day. I tell him that this is my only vehicle and I am planning on waiting. I had made an appointment. He tells me he knows I had an appointment but they had six walk-ins come in before me, and had to handle those. Someone with an appointment was deprioritized behind SIX walk-ins. I expressed that leaving without my car was not an option and, luckily, they found a way to service my car within 4 hours after I got there (for what should have been a 60-90 min. inspection). 2 weeks ago: I come in for an appointment to replace my tires. The appointment was made a week in advance and was confirmed. Upon arrival, I am told that they are "trying to locate the fourth tire I ordered." Why would they not tell me this before I made the drive over to have my tires replaced? My husband and I wait to see if they can find the tire. About 10 minutes later, they find the tire and neglect to tell us. We then check in and ask if it's being serviced and they say yes. Why is it so hard to communicate with the customers in the waiting area, waiting to hear an update on a missing tire? This past Friday: I had an appointment to get my oil changed that I made online. I show up at my designated time and am asked if I will be waiting around or dropping off. I let the manager know I will be waiting for my car. He then tells me he won't be able to complete it today and that I will have to wait to pick it up the following day. I let him know that the appointment said it would take an hour, and that I was leaving for a weekend trip that night. He tells me that he is understaffed and, even though I had an appointment made, they could not service me in time. He assures me that they can give me a bit of oil for now and that if I bring it back at 4:30 on Monday, they can complete the oil change then. Giving him the benefit of the doubt once more, I allow him to schedule me for 4:30 with the promise that the oil change will be able to be completed efficiently, as we leave for vacation the following day. He promises it is scheduled and that it will take a maximum of 45 minutes. Today: I return for my promised oil change at 4:30. To no surprise, the manager informs me that there is no sense in me waiting, as it's going to be a "very lengthy wait" and that they're backed up. I expressed to him that this is unacceptable, as I already had an appointment on Thursday that was then rescheduled to today and that he had promised me they could get it done today quickly. I tell him that I need to have this done by tomorrow, as we're headed on vacation. I have no choice now but to be at the mercy of when they have capacity to change my oil. Miraculously, he discusses with one of his employees and they are changing my oil now as we speak. TL;DR: the manager always blames their poor scheduling and low staffing on the online scheduling process. He claims he reviews the appointments each night. This shop has let me down time and time again. This will be the last time I ever come here. I absolutely do not recommend, unless you are looking for a sure fire way to waste your time. My son had an appointment scheduled for inspection of his truck yesterday morning. When he dropped off he was told they were short staffed and it would not be ready until between 5-6pm! He was obviously very upset with this and was told they would try to do what they could to get done sooner. He had to make arrangements to borrower my car for work and then have us pick up when done. Well on Friday's they are open until 8. After hearing NOTHING all day he started calling after 7, as did I. Did nothing but ring with no answer for the multiple times we tried to call. Wanna bet when we call when they open today that his truck is still not done!!! Not a way to run a business!!! Update: well their posted hours are that they open at 7:30, it is now 745 and when calling once again it rings endlessly with no answer! For the past 2 years I have taken my car to this Pep Boys to have my car inspected. In addition, I would also get my oil changed. Today, I went in with a 10 AM appointment for just those 2 things. Each time I am told that they are short staffed, and it will be a little bit and could take until the next day. I was ok with it taking a little bit, but I let him know I needed my car the next day. I then proceeded to wander around the shopping center. Around noon (about 2 hours after drop-off) I returned back, not having seen any movement on the website. I wondered how much longer until my car was taken while at the same time, I see walk in's being taken into the bay. I was told it would be at least another 3 hours until my car was inspected. The whole point of making the appointment was so my car would be serviced close to that time. While I understand that it would not be taken back right at 10, it seemed unreasonable that it would be 5 hours past my "appointment" time until my car was serviced. I asked for my keys back, because I could not wait that long. The service manager's only offer of assistance was to come back the next day to have it serviced. He even mentioned he could not guarantee the time the next day either. Just that he would put it as a higher priority. I am not sure why a place would take an appointment, if they have no intention of actually doing anything anywhere near that time. Additionally, if it is just due to the fact they didnt have as many inspectors as expected, I am not sure why they do not have someone reach out and try to set expectations PRIOR to my arrival. read more

If you read the other reviews, you will get an idea of why my review is also one star. I scheduled for an inspection on Thursday for Friday and was told it would be completed on Friday. At the end of the day I was told that they had not even begun the inspection and that it would be Saturday morning. And on and on and on. They failed the car for one of two license plate bulb being out and for streaking, not broken, wipers. The cost they quoted me of $60 for wipers was outrageous, in my opinion and I got hit about for $24 for putting in a tiny bulb. After they do that work, they tell me that the emissions failed because they could not get a reading (car had been in storage for a year, which I told them when I brought the car in on Thursday). So, I left without a safety sticker (even though the car met the requirements) because they said that they could not put the safety sticker on without the emissions sticker and that I would have to drive the car around for a few days before the emissions could be tested. As I was leaving, after I told them that I thought that they were conducting business in a very poor fashion, the lady told me to "have a blessed day" which I took to be very derogatory, (you know, like she didn't really want me to have a day in which God blessed me). I am extremely offended that she would bring this into the situation. That was probably the most shameful part of the entire experience. read more

Waited an entire day and a half to receive the same answer I got when I called the 4th time. Went down to the physical store and he gave me the same attitude he did over the phone, he cuts people off, he try's to explain what you already know just in a different way, he's rude and has repetitive responses. These men did a great job when I came up from my vacation back in July I had found a tiny kitten on the high way we rescued be got scared and got stuck under the dash board near the heater. So these men spent at least almost two hours 4 guys on each side under the dash board getting this scared little kitten . They did a wonderful job and got the kitten out stop other jobs to do this to save a kitten . He is now 8 months and running around playing and happy.
