DISHONEST people who sell you things you DO NOT need! I went there for tires and they told me I need break rotor and pad which cost $250 after 25% discount. My car is only 6 years old 36000 miles and I did not even hear any weird sound of the break. I did not trust them so I went to the other tire store who told me I only need to change the pad and costs only $79.99. I talked to my friend about this and they told me same BAD experience with Pep Boys. They don't just try to sell you things you don't need but the service takes much longer time than they tell you. The Pep Boys in Edison sucks! First of all,?they don't answer phones. Then I brought my car to get a tire. They say it will be 2 hours in the middle of the morning. It end up being 3 1/2 hours. They have a Keurig, but they have no water in it. Then take a half hour to fill it after I ask them twice! They final finish the car! I was furious with their service. U learned my lesson and will never go there again ! Then I thought I got out and everything was okay! Nope they end up forgetting to put the cap on my tire! After a sub average wheel alignment I was given a free full synthetic oil change from Ariel at Edison Township, NJ. I took a cell phone picture of the card to make sure I wouldn't misplace the card. Called to redeem the oil change, and was told that I had to have the actual card. I explained that the card might be in my office which was closed due to COVID-19. No flexibility whatsoever. Had to have the actual card. I was told that customers had to be kept honest; as if I would bring in the card in the year 2025. I suggested to indicate in your system that the card was used. Still no go... they don't have the technology to elevate to such standards, nor the expertise to get them there.. five thumbs down... read more

I've gone there before but won't again When I got home one day, I notice one of my rear wheels was smoking with a bad burning plastic smell. I assumed my brake caliber was shot and leaking. I first took the car to this Pepboys, and they said to replace my calibers (you have to replace them in pairs) it would cost about $550, which is ridiculously high so I left and went to Mandy's next store to see if I could get a better price. Mandy's checked my car out 1st and to my pleasant surprise they told me that my brakes were fine and I must of run over a plastic bag or something or other got caught up there and that was the smoke I saw. Whatever it was it burned away and everything was fine now. So basically by Pepboys telling me I needed to replace my calibers they were lying. So you can't trust them. read more

Went there to purchase some car parts during a weekday of which the store did not have much if any traffic. That should have been my first sign. There was a abundant amount of employees however, none offered any help and when I finally asked, I was bounced around and at the end, did not purchase the part that would have cost me a couple of hundred of dollars (perhaps a good thing in hindsight?) because ultimately they didn't know and was very apparent they didn't care. read more

I was really pleasantly surprised during my visit to this Pep Boys. I had an issue with a tire that had gone flat, and since I had purchased the tires at a different Pep Boys about a year ago, I recalled that they had a road hazard warranty included with the purchase. I wasn't 100% sure of this but I mentioned it when I came in and was helped right away with no hassle or problems which was great! The service people were friendly and helpful, and the tire was fixed promptly (along with an oil change I requested last minute) so you can't get better than that. I expected to wait some time as it was a Saturday but all of the work was done within an hour. They even gave us a coupon for the oil change that we didn't know about when we checked out. I went to this Pep Boys when it was about to close. I had my whole life in my car and was moving when I started to hear a clunking noise (ahhhhhhhh). Since I had nowhere to stay that night, they were kind enough to check out my car right then. It turned out my wheels were about to fall off! I am usually not a big fan of the big auto parts chain stores, but this Pep Boys store has been pleasurable to deal with. The staff is very friendly. Nelson at the parts counter is very knowledgeable and all the ladies at checkout are very helpful. Within two (2) hours after receiving a written diagnosis (brakes and rotors) from The Dealer (located within 5-miles of this Pep Boys on Oak Tree Rd in Edison NJ) - I attempted to save extra money because of the holiday-season, I shopped around for a lower price. Probably one of the worst customer services I've had in any auto body shop. Way too pushy and unbelievably rude that I can never imagine going back there again. My car battery died so I jumped the car and went to this location to replace the battery. The service person was pushing for check up on other parts of the car, which cost extra $15. When I said I was not gonna buy that service, he kept pushing, saying my car's problem could be other than the battery, duh. I again said no, and then his colleague asserted himself and went over the same story like I didn't understand what they were pushing for. When I declined it again, his colleague was smashing papers to the counter -thank god he didn't throw them at me-, and the guy I was talking to raised his voice saying that he did not want to be responsible if it was a problem other than the battery. Who said I would make him responsible for MY decision over my car? Then I asked what battery options I had and how much they were. He would not give me straight answer saying he did not know since "it depends". It was only after I repeatedly asked for the exact prices for each option that I could get the numbers. I also asked how long it would take to get the job done. Normally, other auto hops give me a rough range, e.g. 30 min to an hour, but this guy said, he could not tell me because he did not want to be held responsible for what he said. I went there around 5:00PM, and what he said was it would be done THAT NIGHT. Jeez, that helps. I also paid more for the battery than what I pay when I change it in other places. Rip off on top of unbelievably bad customer service..stay away! read more

Very poor service. Customer care is below any limit. I am waiting for more than 1,5 hour here already and they promised everything will be done in less than 1 hour. To be honest I really wouldn't waste my time doing any of this if I didn't think it was right. When somebody does something wrong on your car and you try to tell the manager about it and they don't do anything for you there's not much you can do except get angry. I didn't overreact but they literally could not do a single thing for me with the poor service that I got. I understand there's rookie mechanics that work at these types of places but the managers should be able to step up and help out especially when someone comes back the next day with a problem. Walter the assistant manager there was probably the worst help I could have possibly gotten from any manager I brought my car back the very next day to check for looseness because something kept making a funky noise and they didn't even bother to take the wheel off after just getting an axle replaced. But of course he points the blame at me and says that I may have loosened the lug nuts. I couldn't think of bringing you back a third time considering they couldn't fix it the second time around so I took it upon myself to check it out. Everything was properly done but it was misaligned on the Hub so as I drove it aligned itself but that's how they ended up being loose they couldn't do anything for me and I just really wish the customer service was a little better in the end because here I am just another person that cannot trust this company for anything I wouldn't even bring my car in to change the oil. But once again I can't blame the texts they're going to make mistakes it's the management I had the biggest issue with read more

I had such a bad experience at the Carteret PepBoys that I did not have high expectations for this one. From the moment I made my appointment with Allen, he seemed to go out of the way to make sure that the correct trailer hitch was ordered for my vehicle and that it was in stock before my appointment. From my arrival, til the time I was emailed to pick up my vehicle, it took approximately 1 1/2 hours. Not too bad.....definitely enjoy this location rather than Carteret. I went in to return a brand new never used starter. Also a brand new never used oxygen sensor still in the box. Oxygen sensor did not have a receipt so I knew I was going to get store credit which isn't a problem since I'm always in this store (no longer will be shopping with them). The store supervisor or manager mike (who was out of uniform with no name tag or proper shirt for identification purposes) was just a complete douche; so I had the receipt for the starter just did not have the box being they took the box when I brought the core in. He says to me I will not take back the starter being you do not have a receipt (first error) then he states you don't have the box (how would I have the box if it was taken for the core) then he finally says its out of the 90 period. I told him it is brand new never used never installed still was in the bag it comes in with the warranty papers zip tied to it. I called corporate and put a complaint in against this employee and was told he could still over ride the 90 day period because it was brand new. I was told by corporate to go to another Pepboys and they should be able to assist me. As so I did and sure enough east Brunswick Pepboys manager Warren was more than helpful!!! I have not shop at this place in a while. Last time I went to buy parts from Pepboy here was not good... (Rude and lazy workers, they think they are doing your favorite) I usually buy parts from online, rock auto or part geek.. But sometime go to AutoZone and advance auto part, when I need an advice on the parts. They are not great but at least they are not rude. Recently, I saw a TV advertising how Pepboys are nice people and friendly people. So me being stupid I decided to try Pepboys one more time. I was not sure about the size of the part, so I ask old guy at the counter if he could help me find a part. From the start he was rude. He told me right away that part is right there, can you read? Yeah that is what he said "can you read?" great customer service... I should have just walk away but I needed the part. He start giving me altitude and finally walk around the counter with big "sigh" just to let me know that I am bothering him and he is doing me big favorite by actually doing his job... and more altitudes come out of his mouth. And in the end, he telling me "nobody wants to do any leg work." If I want to do any leg work I would buy it from online. Does he know people could buy a part a lot cheaper online? We go to brick and mortar store for advice and customer service. Folks, these are same people who wants $15 minimum wage. You could take my review any way you want but I will not go back to Pepboys again. There are other auto part shops just down the road... And to Pepboys... you should try to spend more money on training worker about customer service than spend millions dollars on TV telling lie to people... it is totally moot point when customer write review like this... extra note: you will be really stupid to bring your car here to get fix it. Untrustworthy to sum up this place!! Always went there for an oil change, can't really mess that up. Never an issue until I made the biggest mistake of getting my car tolled there due to a blown out tire. I trusted them with close to $1000.00 worth of work. 4 New tires, Alignment, new brakes etc...went to pick up my car in the evening and my car no longer drives the same. Add insult to injury, my traction light came on then I was told to bring back my car but make an appointment. Still waiting for my schedule to allow for me to go back to get this resolved. My employer does financial business with Pep Boys and because of the convenience of how close the shop is to me, I thought I built a relationship with them through the years. Just like that, this will be my last time going there. Ok to trust them with an oil change, other than that, I highly do not recommend them! They lost my trust and my business!! read more

Extremely poor customer service. I have gone here for years, on and off and while customer service has always been lacking yesterday was the worst. I needed a synthetic oil change so went there. The manager (who I recognize from past visits) and a chubby msn were at the desk. The chubby man in the white service advisor shirt was sitting staring at the computer. The manager was just standing there. I walked up to the chubby man as just then a tech guy came from the back and started talking to the manager. I literally stood there for fifteen minutes with no acknowledgement or greeting from the chubby man or the manager. I would have left then but really wanted the oil change since I was already there. Finally the manager comes back out but a customer came up directly to him and starts talking while I'm still standing there. Finally the chubby guy said "What do you need?" I told him a synthetic oils change and he said it's going to four hours. I said four hours? There were four customers clear pocket hanging papers on the wall. He said yes we are backed up. This was at 4:30pm. I was so angry at the rotten customer service and that I felt if he had taken one minute to say hello how can I help you? I wouldn't have wasted fifteen minutes of my life standing there. As I have been there before and they were never great, this was the worst experience and I would not go back or recommend this location. read more

I was at this Pep boys service center on 1/14/17 to do a winter special package on my car.. the package included,brake system inspection, wiper blades and a long list of services. When i went there to make an appt. the previous day I was told the pkg. cost would be $20 for a rewards member but on the appt. day the same guy at the front desk told me it would cost $3 more.Which I did not mind paying. An hour later he hands over the key back to me telling me all is well with my car. i asked him if he changed the brake light on my car. He said he would ask the mechanic..The mechanic came by and said he found it okay but will check again..he comes back telling me he changed the bulb as a courtesy and gave me an extra bulb..Then I asked him if he changed the wiper blades,as the left side blade did not work well.He again said it was ok but he would check again, he comes back again saying he changed the left side blade. So basically my car was not checked, i told the front desk how upset i was with the kind of service and asked him to assure me if my battery was checked as well as the tire rotation done.but at this point i did not trust him anymore..to make matters worse when i got to my car and opened the trunk, the the part where he changed the bulb was left as is , with the pop up nails missing...what a lousy job! what a shame..#nevertrustpepeboys. I went in to this Pep Boys with my children to get some tires the winter weather started up about 2 weeks ago or so. I love this store as the service is always exceptional. I dont trust anyone else with my car. This is why I was surprised as I was walking around the store a woman ran past me like a whirlwind, mind you while having my 4 year old son at hand. Once I got a good look I realized she was an employee! I could barley notice if I hadnt seen her name tag. This employee not only was rushing around the store, she was loud! She was cursing up a storm across the store I was stunned! I had to hurry my son away from her as good as i could before he asked me what "f*ggot" "n***er" "mother effer" meant. I asked another worker what that running swearing storm name was, i think it was Haley. I expressed my concern of her vocabulary around children and the other associate expressed deep gratitude. This worker was so kind and gentle. And her name i remembered, its hard to forget, Heaven. Not only did she listen to all my concerns, I could tell she truly listened to me not because it was her job to be nice to me. After Heaven even helped me learn about different car radios and how to install it by myself. I think I will give it a shot some time soon. She was the delight of my time there. Once i decided what to buy she even found a coupon for me to use. That girl truly lives up to her name. I still love this pep boys no matter what, i will just have to get my son's ears covered whenever I bring him. read more
