Poor customer service. Called first and was told they would work me in to get four tires and an alignment. Immediately came in and there were three reps at their computer with no customers waiting. I thought great I can get in and out in a reasonable time. Rep said I'll be with you in a moment. 5-10-15 minutes passed as I watched three sales reps continue typing or whatever they were doing on a computer again no customers present except me. What was so important that u can't stop and take a moment to help a customer who is there to spend several hundred dollars to your business? Me and my husband took his car in for a diagnostic because of a check engine light. They quoted him for some hoses for $900, claiming they have to go to the actual dealership to get the parts. Ridiculous. Also, both times we came to the store for both drop off and pick up took 15+ minutes. One person was working. The second person working disappeared somewhere. We also had to call them when the car was done. They didnt call us, so who knew how long the car would have stayed there if we didnt contact them. Great service, they answered all my questions and I got my smog check in a jiffy. They also have a huge selection of anything and everything you want for your car. I totally spiffed out my car! Everyone was helpful and knew exactly what aisle to find products on. Even when I didn't ask, a girl saw me looking at the car shades and said "check aisle 2b for more options." Now that's attentive and helpful service! They also have a free rewards card where you get a free gift card every $200 spent, but it starts you at $50 when you register. I don't know about everyone else, but I am fed up by apathetic businesses that act like they could care less about taking my money. To begin with, I will point out how much customer service has declined since I came here first to install wipers I bought on Amazon back in 2015. As well as another instance where I was in 'n out (and they were actually busy then) with them replacing a tail light. They were enthusiastic and helpful and wouldn't even let me pay them! (For the wipers, that is. ) They even had wifi. But now it is a wifi sign on the door, and a recommendation to stand next to Starbucks, as the miserable, bored, and put out workers, who cut me off while explaining what I needed, told me. I am trying to replace the bulb on my instrument cluster. Something according to YouTube anyone can do; If you can buy the bulb. Lots of employees standing around, but no one interested in helping me find said bulb. When I asked the parts department, who had zero visible customers at the time, if they could do it, they said No, they don't have the bulb, no I have to ask for some other guy Tmw; never suggested making an appointment-what? And such a simple job was suddenly ratcheted up to $150 ?! $97 for diagnostic and then you want to charge me again for labor-the back breaking labor of picking up a Phillips screw driver. This is why people shop online. Like apparently I am going to have to do for this bulb, and then replace it myself. PLEASE DO NOT GET YOUR REPAIRS DONE HERE!!!! THEY ARE DISHONEST, SHADY and NOT GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO!!!!!!!! I took my vehicle in after it stalled on me. I spoke with Gabe about a diagnostic check. After showing him the paperwork of a previous repair, he showed his "Chevy" technician, Eli. I SPECIFICALLY told Gabe to drive the car with the code reader attached so it could read the code once it stalled. After waiting the entire day, I called to check progress. I was told over the phone that the technician drove my car & the code said it needed a throttle body replacement. I agreed. $640 repair!!!!!! Less than 24 hours after pickup my car stalled even worse than before. I took it back in immediately, only to wait for the remainder of the day to see if they could "keep looking at it". I decided to just drop it off this morning. I spoke to Eli in their garage during pickup, who not only told me he NEVER DROVE THE CAR, but that my "new repair" was in fact that same part I showed them paperwork for the first day. The parts he supposedly looked at during diagnostic and never said were the problem. I spoke with James Hunt, the Service Manager who stuttered his lies to my face about being in the passenger seat while Eli drove my car and "it never stalled." And how the previous repair paperwork was not the problem, even though Eli said it was less than 10 minutes before in the garage. I told him Eli had just told me he had NOT driven my car prior, and I was called back today to drive it with him. Eli got frustrated and said this conversation was a one sided, then walked out. James told me my paperwork was not significant to today's conversation. Today was my first time interacting with James, and it was apparent he had no knowledge of what was going on with my vehicle. That did not stop him from what I assumed to be his attempt "customer service". I asked if he could not lie directly to my face, as he never took a second to see what was actually going on or what his technician told me. I waited for this diagnostic and repair for two days, just so Eli "The Chevy Guy" can do it. Had to cancel my son's autism therapy & miss work this weekend. Flushed $640 down the drain. Besides playing the guessing game with my car, its clear they have NO issues taking advantage of their customers. I've never had problems with PepBoys, this location & these technicians give this brand a bad name. My husband and I have been using this Pep Boys for many years. We have had some ok experiences, some good, but over the past couple of years we keep trying them again (for some reason) and it doesn't turn out well. One experience was trying to get our brakes redone. Did it once and they made a lot of noise, so they re-did them, same problem. We then bought genuine Toyota brakes, took them in and they swapped them out, and again, same problem. We said phooey and took the truck to the Toyota dealership and they said "duh, Pep Boys hadn't put the brake shoe shims in". They installed the same brakes and they worked great. 2nd bad experience, had a Pep Boys battery that was acting up so took the vehicle in. They said we have to take the battery out of the Truck ourselves there in the parking lot for them to test it (really!!!). So my husband did that, then they tested it, said it was fine, charged it and gave it back to him to put back in the truck himself. It died 3 days later. AAA came out and said it as a bad battery. We are done with Pep Boys. Had good experiences years ago, but now they've lost a long time customer once and for all. read more

These guys are completely useless. Andy the guy in the front should be working at McDonalds where he might be more useful. Can't tell me my cars history so I don't know what needs to be done and what is still is under warranty. I've had the "lifetime warranty" brake pads replaced every time I've changed the oil for the last few years. This is my back up car that I like to keep maintained but these guys are terrible. I have come to this location to have my oil changes completed on my F150 for the last few years. I usually go to the dealer for anything more than that but I thought I would give them a shot to replace the rear shocks. The process started out fine and the price was ok, but they took all day to install 2 rear shocks and replace the rotors and pads. That would have been fine, but I got home and noticed they installed 2 different color shocks and didn't mention anything to me. I called in and they gave me a hard time about it, until finally the service manager James agreed to order new ones that match. Great, right...no. I scheduled an appointment to make sure it didn't take all day again, and the .8 hours they told me it would take turned into 3 hours of waiting in their waiting room. No apologies for the terrible communication, and installing the wrong part on my truck and not saying anything. Not all locations are bad, this one is poorly managed. I will not be bringing my vehicle here again. Update: I was contacted by Pep Boys as the response from them stated. They had the service manager who was responsible for the terrible service call me, which is awkward, but I explained the problems I had to him. James, the service manager, continued to blame his staff and did nothing to remedy the situation. I made an appointment for an alignment and oil change. When I showed up the one tech that does alignments was not there. They told me they couldn't do my alignment. I should've received a call to re-schedule when they knew they couldn't accommodate me. I decided to keep my appt and get my oil changed since it needed to be done. 10 months ago I got my front brakes and rotors replaced, then got told I need new tires which I did not. I went back a few weeks ago because now my car squeaks when I brake and they told me it was a free inspection. They called me and let me know there was some issue with my calipers and the small rubber bands for it were not good. they wanted me to pay $30 for the piece since they put it on, I told them no I only agreed to the inspection and if they can put my old bands back on because I wanted to take it home. He told me over the phone "that's not a good idea to put back the old ones and you should come down to see it, so I can explain it better". I showed up and they tried explaining that I need the hardware for it and I asked "so is the piece mine or yours?" and he said "it's yours, the original but I can get the new ones ordered and put them on first thing in the morning". But he had just told me over the phone that they were already on? I took my car to another mechanic and he told me everything looked good, but that the front brakes looked more used than the back ones. I never replaced my brakes in the back only the front with pep boys so how is it possible that they look worse? Upon picking up my car, I notice the side skirt on my driver's side was hanging off. I told the employee about it and asked if they could fix it and he basically told me they were too busy to take 5 minutes to fix something they had messed up and told me to go to another location and have it fixed. This was my first time at Pep Boys and it will be my last as well. I walked in at 5:15, 45 minutes before the store closed, unaware of what problem my car was going through. At first I talked to a nice woman who seemed more than willing to help me out. I made a quick call to double check the procedure she recommended was what I wanted, but when I returned she was gone. I talked to the new person at the front desk, Salvador Correa and asked if the diagnostics check came with a 12 point check, as my friend on the phone told me to. When I asked, he responded sarcastically ("What?" "What are you talking about?" "I don't know if it's 12 points but I check off what's on my list"; my response to "you check the car out other than just the engine right" was "maybe, I don't know what you're talking about"); he was definitely talking down to me as he saw I knew nothing about cars. Shrugging off his sarcasm, I asked if he would be able to run a diagnostics check. He replied "no" and asked if the girl before me had said they could. I replied "yes" and he shook his head, now not only demeaning me now, but also his coworker. Usually I don't care about customer service as long as they are decent enough to communicate with me, but Salvador Correa just played dumb like he didn't even know how cars work. Came here for an oil change, full synthetic. Everything seemed to go well. The staff was polite and seemed knowledgable, BUT then they tried to sell me some tires. Thats when they tried to scam me. They told me that my tires needed changing. They said that the 2 front were wearing out and the two rear were almost bald. I told them that I'd think about it, went home, and checked the tires myself. WTF! LIARS! My two front had just been changed a year earlier and were practically new. Two hours later, they call me to ask what I need done, then tell me that they are too busy to do it. So.... why do you have an online appointment scheduler if we can't REALLY schedule an appointment? I brought my truck into Pep Boys to see if I could get a more competitive price than the one from my usual mechanic, which stated I needed a new front end. I only brought it in for a second opinion because the original price was so high. Well, after all was said and done, AND after the techs discovered additional necessary repairs that needed attention AND after the manager included the other side of the vehicle (free of charge) that was not on the original estimate, the price was about the same. The manager, Eric, also gave me a discount on service to keep the work order in the range of his estimate. It has been a long time since I've had that level of customer service. It's not about the discounts. The staff was wonderful and friendly. I think they have a new customer for life. My tire was flat and I got a warning on my car when I was driving and I am so thankful that I chose to go to Pep Boys. I thought I was going to have to get a new tire and I was so sad thinking of having to shell out $300 bucks for a new tire but I did not have to. They fixed my tire for $20. I couldn't believe it. I had a big chunk of metal stuck in there and they fixed it. These guys are heaven sent. I am so grateful for them. Always willing to go an extra mile. Props to Ashely and Nick- Two excellent customer service orientated folks. Came in looking for some tires and Nick was able to price match any shop round to find me the best deal. He was very talkative and made me feel comfortable. Ashely is just as good. I called in to get the same price I did last time, and she hooked me up with Nick's old price. I came in that night and got my tire for a kick ass price. I guess the only drawback (and maybe it's just my timing!!)- I seem to always be there when a manager is not there, making a manager, when needed for price overriding, a little hard to find. That's not a mark against El Cajon Pep Boys though. They're excellent and nice people overall. Oh and Adrian seems a bit lazy; He isn't quite the service rep that Nick and Ashley are. He has that attitude in which you can just tell he doesn't wanna try a little harder. One of those do the minimum kinda guys. read more

2 1/2" drop to my Acura RSX & I needed a wheel alignment stat. Prior to this location, I tried 3 different wheel alignment spots & all 3 places were unsuccessful in doing so.. So you can assume my patience was at an all time low & I was getting tired & fed up of the whole situation. Came here, dropped my car off. There was an issue w/ stock parts in my car & the issues & concerns of lowering my car (a lot of blah blah that I really don't want to get into because honestly I don't even know all the details myself) & they were REALLY helpful. Matt, the store manager, was very patient & explained everything in detail, even when there was an addition concern w/ my alignment, I think he saw the frustration on my face despite not knowing my previous experiences.. & he was able to handle it for me. I got phone calls (for updates) & even bugged/called them a few times throughout the day & they all stayed really patient w/ me, despite how busy they were (They had a full lot.) They were ALL really nice & friendly. James, Gio/Giovanni (I think they're the same person because Gio answered the phone, but Giovanni helped me at the register. Name tag, lol), & There was another gentleman that was really sweet, helpful & friendly but I didn't get his name. He was more of a tech than customer service rep. I think. I think if pep boys is reading this, or matt at least, you guys can message me his name because i really would like to give him recognition. I definitely recommend them to anyone & everyone. They have beat competition prices by %5 (Seriously, like.. Every time I have a car problem I bring it to this Pep Boys. They are always prompt, courteous and kind. There is always a little wait but as long as you get an appointment scheduled I am always in and out in the time frame they give me. They have helped me out by honoring coupons and finding little ways to help me save a bit here and there. James has apparently recently come to the store and he is doing a standup job. Unrelated: I didn't catch the name of the gentleman that did the work for me but just wanted to add he had an EXCELLENT beard and finished my oil change in a flash.
